Solty Revant      After a rather tangential talk about reality shifts causing itching, it was finally confirmed that Solty would have an opponent this evening! The energetic android girl is now waiting in one of the Shrine rooms for the one called Mortimer. She doesn't have much of an idea what to expect, so instead shared the room number with Mortimer to make it easier for them to find each other.

While she waits, Solty sets up the field. She chooses a rather open rocky area. There's some cover in the form of large boulders, but the rest is flat plateau that looks much like the Grand Canyon area. When Mortimer arrives he'd find...well, Solty certainly doesn't look dangerous at a glance. She's pretty short, skinny, wears an unusual outfit, has green hair in kind of strange twin tails, and long furry ears that point out sideways from her head. She looks like she is somewhere between 16 and 18 years old.
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer comes strolling leisurely into the Shrine, puffing on an ornate and long-stemmed old pipe. Hand carved wood, treated to be fire resistant, of course. His uniform is pretty wrinkled and a bit dirty from the road, but not filthy to the point where he looks like an absolute bum. His crew of loyal beasts find a spot outside of the arena to flop down and watch.

But Mortimer pauses when he looks upon Solty and tilts his head a bit. "...Are /you/ Solty?" There's a hint of confusion and curiousity in his voice.
Solty Revant      Solty looks over as...a big weasel walks in? With other creatures following him? He asks if she is Solty, and she nods quickly and smiles. "Yes sir! I'm Solty!" She even raises a hand as a student often does when called on. "Are you...Mr. Gramps?" she asks. Apparently she missed his real name somewhere. "Wow! You're the second animal person I've met!"

When that pipe smoke wafts toward her, Solty acks and covers her mouth and nose. "Um...I'm sorry but...would you mind not smoking? It's bad for people's health, you know." She really doesn't know who she is dealing with.
Mortimer Balman      Ulbrecht looks down at Mortimer for a moment, sensing his odd mood. He then sniffs at Solty and tilts his head, making a 'bowrrooooo' noise which is very low and deep. The wartortle that sits on the Thunderwolf's back pops his head over to look down at her too. "<...Ohh okay. Neat.>" And then he flops back over.

Mort, for his part, flicks his ears a bit and then takes one last drag and then snuffs the flame in the pipe. Oddly enough, he does not exhale the smoke. "....Oh my Gods you are absolutely /adorable/, you look almost just like one of my nieces! Only with green hair, and not a dusty auburn!" He does not make a 'squee' noise but he has a very anime-ish eyesparkle thing going on and his body language says he is resisting the urge to snatch Solty up to squeezehug her.
Solty Revant      Solty looks up at the huge fluffy wolf with wide eyes, then blinks at the turtle that peeks over his head. As she is sniffed at she giggles and tries to pet Ulbrecht. "Hello!" she says to him happily before hugging around his neck.

Mortimer's words to her draw a surprised and confused expression, but she smiles soon enough. "Oh, really? I'm surprised! I would have thought a weasel man would have weasel people for nieces. Ah! N-not that a nice weasel man can't be with human-looking humans!" she says as she keeps petting Ulbrecht and looks around at the other creatures Mortimer brought with him.
Mortimer Balman      The great Thunderwolf flops down so that Solty can have an easier time of reaching his neck for hugs. He is indeed, exceptionally fluffy and well groomed to boot. Switchbait flutters down from the massive beast's back. "<Yes, greetings, and.. Does she, Master Balman? You're not too good at telling humans apart, and she looks dead on for a human to me.>" "Well yes but don't you see it in her face? She looks so much like Rahima! Well, a little lighter of skin tone, but we did live in a desert after all." "<Oh.. Yes, I do suppose I see it, sah. Oh do forgive my rudeness madam. I am Switchbait, the wolf-creature you are hugging is Ulbrecht, the rude amphibian on top is Reder, and this is our Master- Mortimer Balman.>"

Mortimer thinks for a moment. "I should have specified- adopted nieces, though my species /is/ biologically compatible with humans, my older brother Friedrich couldn't very well have any. He and his husband Reuben adopted over a dozen war orphans of varying species, though."
Solty Revant      The temptation is just too great when Ulbrecht flops down, so Solty hops up on his back like he's a mount or something and giggles happily as she basically stretches out on his back and snuggles into his fur, still hugging around his neck. She looks over at Switchbait and her eyes widen again. "Ooooh...a giant talking butterfly!" She smiles after that. "It's nice to meet you all. I'm Solty Revant!"

She looks somewhat confused when Mortimer says 'he and his husband', then blinks. "Ooooh. That's nice though! I'm adopted, too!" She hops down from Ulbrecht and gives him a pat on the shoulder before looking at Mortimer again. "So, um...are they going to help you in the battle?" she asks, even though she is once again petting Ulbrecht.
Mortimer Balman      As big as Ulbrecht is and as thick as Thunderwolf fur gets in winter, she might half-vanish into his fur doing that. The massive wolf does however, seem to enjoy the attention and affection. His tail thumps hard on the ground, causing it to shake a bit. Switchbait flutters up to be head-level with her, "<I do superficially resemble a 'butterfly' yes, however I am what is known as a 'Butterfree.' I suppose that I am, in essence, more or less a particularly large psychic butterfly.>"

Mortimer shakes his head. "Nah.. Though Reder could afford to stop bein' a lazy arse and get some exercise in!" The wartortle's head pops out of the wolf's fur near the shoulder, "<Get fucked, it's winter and my instincts are saying BRUMATE. You should be happy I'm not at the bottom of a grotto waiting until spring.>" Switch sighs, "<I do apologize for his manners. Someday I'll break him of those habits.>" "<Bitch I will OUTLIVE you by several orders of magnitude, you're not breaking me of shit!>" "He's prolly right on that, y'know." Mort says with a shrug, while Switch just looks irate and furrows his mustache- how does he even HAVE a mustache?- irritably.
Solty Revant      With her slim profile Solty does very nearly disappear in the fluff. Her head pokes up as Switch flies up to her, then nods as he explains to her about what he is. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Switch." she says. She seems to have good manners, herself.

Unlike Reder. Solty ends up covering her ears each time Reder curses. "I-it's alright." she says to Switch when he apologizes for Reder, though she does give Reder a bit of a uncertain look. She moves past it though and looks at Mortimer. "You seem...kind of like soldiers, I think?"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer cracks a bit of a toothy grin. "You guessed right, young lady. Field Operations Sergeant Second Class, Mortimer W. Balman, former of the Groudan Republic Marine Corps' General Infantry Legions." Said with no small bit of pride. "Reder there was assigned to be my companion shortly after he was born. I've had him with me since he was a Squirtle no older than two years." Reder's grin is far more predatory and unsettling than Mortimer's is. "<Sarge and I and the rest of us- well, not Ulbrecht, he's the ranking Fucking New Guy- been kickin' ass across time and space damn long time, now.>" Mort sighs a bit. "She's clearly not comfy with yer tongue, man, stop bein' an arse, will ya?" Reder waves a claw dismissively, "<I'm not paid to give a damn. We're just a pack of violence-for-pleasure seeking vagrants now, remember?>" The 'tortle sounds.. Kinda bitter about that. And then he vanishes back into Ulbrecht's fur to sleep. "...Sorry about Reder. He used to be a really nice little fella. War likes to ruin nice things, though, y'know?"
Solty Revant      Solty's smile as Mortimer relates his entire rank and squad indicates she has some respect for soldiers, or at the very least is respectful of the fact that Mortimer is proud of it. Reder though...she is obviously uncomfortable as he speaks up again. Especially when he says violence-for-pleasure seeking. But, he doesn't seem happy with it either, and that brings her expression from a little nervous and possibly afraid to one of 'aw poor turtle' when Mortimer explains. "I can't say I know. Where I'm from, there hasn't been any wars that I know of. People aren't always nice to each other, but...no wars. And Roy doesn't like me to watch war shows or movies. He says that is too serious for innocent kids."

Despite the fact that they came here to spar, Solty seems quite happy to talk with them for as long as they like. "Oh! Roy is the one who adopted me! We live in an apartment building with Miss Miranda and Kasha. Miss Miranda is his boss, and Kasha and I are good friends now. We're both adopted, but she's really tough. She doesn't let things get to her and is usually pretty serious."
Mortimer Balman      That makes Mort let out a big, hearty, coarse, gruff laugh. "Gwahahahahaa! This Roy sounds like my brother-in-law Reuben! He was a soldier too, but he always encouraged his kids away from war games and movies and whatnot. I should like to meet him sometime! Though.. If he tries to keep you away from anything that involves conflict, I must question how capable of combat y'are. The little Rahima I remember was a vicious thing when she was pressed to it, but humans are a dangerous species on Poqmori. I cannot tell at a glance what you're capable of at all."
Solty Revant      Solty blinks as Mortimer laughs, but her gentle smile returns quickly when he compares Roy to his brother-in-law. "Roy isn't a soldier, but he is a Hunter. He takes on the dangerous jobs that the police officers aren't willing to take, and sometimes does private security or investigations."

When Mortimer questions her combat abilities because she isn't exposed to violent movies, Solty tilts her head lightly. "Hmm. Well, I don't know if I'm vicious or dangerous compared to most people in the Multiverse, but I do my best. That's why I want to spar more with people here, so that if something does happen I'm ready!"
Mortimer Balman      Mort nods a bit. "I see.. Now I'm more curious! But that curiousity can be sated on a different day." He rolls his arms around and pulls them side to side, cracking and popping the bones and joints quite loudly. "Well! I don't blame you for wanting to be ready for such things, it is a good to be prepared for a fight. So then! Finish setting us up a field. And then you can show me what yer capable of, and we'll go from there."
Solty Revant      Solty nods firmly and gives a determined double fist pump as Mortimer says to finish the field. "It's already done! I went for something simple. So...we can start whenever you're ready!" She starts to take off, but stop and pets Ulbrecht some more and giggles before she jogs off to take up a spot a short distance away. "Okay! Let's go!"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer walks into the ring, motions for his crew to back up a bit- which they do, Ulbrecht scooching after being petted until he's outside of the area- and then just.. Stands there. "Hit me with yer best shot, kiddo."
Solty Revant      Solty blinks. "Oh...uh...okay!" she says uncertainly. She takes a moment, and it looks like she might be powering up given the stance she takes with her feet apart, her fists clenched, and her arms curled against her sides. A moment later, both her hands begin to noticably glow with flowing yellow-orange energy and start to blur as if vibrating rapidly.

"Okay Mr. Mortimer! Here I come!" the green-haired android declares. Then, she kicks off...and there is a small explosion where she had been standing as her feet dig into the rocky terrain and cause dust and fragments of rock to go flying out behind her. Each subsequent step does the same, and she closes in at a speed rivaling most exotic cars.

It's a head on assault, and might seem easy to dodge with how much telegraphing there is...that is until she leaps and comes flying in like a laser shot, both fists aimed at Mortimer's belly!
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer catches the blow with.. His stomach, mainly. Being shoved backwards HARD, his boots dig into the ground and slowly churn it up below him until he's at the very edge of the arena. And then he spits out a mouthful of blood, which makes an ugly hissing sound as it burns into a rock, slowly melting through it until it cools. "Haaah.. Damn, kid! That's one HELL of a punch you got! That's really good!" He grabs Solty by the arm, however, grinning at her through bloody teeth. "Now let's see how well ya /take/ it, aye?" And then he launches her like a lawn dart up into the sky, and brings his fists to his hips.

The temperature around him skyrockets, causing small wisps of atmosphere to combust. He opens his mouth as wide as he can, and an eerie glow comes from down in his throat.. Followed by a massive beam of pure, concentrated flame.
Solty Revant      Solty smiles happily up at Mortimer as he compliments her attack...that is until she realizes he has ahold of her. She is pretty light, especially considering she is supposed to be an android. "Waaaah!" She goes flying upward, and with no real way to arrest her fall or change direction...well, she is pretty much a sitting duck as she falls back down.

The geyser of flame engulfs her. So much so that she disappears in the blast. When Mortimer finally stops, Solty's blackened form falls out of the sky and lands pretty roughly nearby. Even though she isn't combustible, she is smoking quite badly and there are arcs of electricity along her body every now and then. Presumably from damaged circuits. It probably looks like she's down already.

She does eventually rise, but slowly and unsteadily. The ends of her ponytails are gone, and her clothing has only survived enough to keep her decent. "....nnnng....th-that hurt..." she murmurs. Once she is up, it becomes clear that she is an android. Much of the pristine pale skin across the front of her body has given way to shining metal and the flames have exposed circuits in a few places.

After putting so much into her initial attack and taking such a powerful hit, Solty already has little left to go after Mortimer with. But, despite how bad it already looks, she runs back in as soon as she is able. "I won't give up!" She throws a few small punches, obviously trying to conserve energy after all of that.
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer.. Barely seems to be guarding against the attack. That was one of his strongest possible techniques, and while it WAS draining he was still more than on a metaphorical war footing, as the notion goes. Solty gets several quick punches in across his jaw and stomach, but Mortimer holds up a hand once he's finally able to grab her by the fist. "And I think that's enough, now." His grip tightens.. Like he's trying to crush her metal fist in his hand. "Not giving up is an admirable trait.." The temperature around his hand is rising, steadily. Unpleasantly, even.

Yeah, it's going to get to 'steel-meltingly hot' here in a few seconds. "But.. ..." he sighs a bit. He seems briefly paralyzed while gripping the little android by the fist. As if he's trying to decide something. "...I suppose it would just be infantilizing an' insulting if I were to suddenly say oh no, I should stop beating up on the cute little mechanical girl. Fer future reference, however!" He lifts her up and puts her into a headlock, and then drops toward the ground with Solty's face aimed at the ground.

"There ain't no harm in fallin' back or runnin' away, sometimes!"
Solty Revant      Solty blinks as her fist is caught. "H-hey!" Her fist creaks as he squeezes and she yelps and winces, but one green eye stays open and looking up at him defiantly. She nods when he mentions it being insulting. "Yes, you can't go easy on me if I am going to get stronger!" she agrees.

When he tries to get her in a headlock, Solty manages to get an arm between Mortimer's and her head, and slips out just in time to avoid leaving a face-print in the ground. Still, one hand was pretty well crushed. It functions, but if she were human she'd likely have a few broken fingers. "But if you run away, then someone else might get hurt instead!" she counters as she makes a short hop then tries to land on Mortimer's back before he can get up.
Mortimer Balman      Mort knows he isn't faster than this kid, so he just braces for it. SMASH! There's a loud grunt and then another mouthful of boiling blood gets sprayed across the ground, sizzling and steaming. "Nngh.. That's true.. But CAN you get stronger, I wonder?"

After the blood, however, there is smoke. Mort is exuding /tremendous/ amounts of it, and it is difficult to see through. It's thick and somewhat.. Greasy, like the smoke from a kitchen fire or an oil slick. The kind of thing that can make it hard even for mechanical senses to go through. Somewhere in that smoke, Mort flips the little android off of him, and turns off his headflames.. Where did he go?

A kick comes flying out of the darkness, looking for Solty's midsection.
Solty Revant      Solty has to stop and think about that one. She is constructed. Does that mean she literally can't get stronger? That smoke surrounds her and she hesitates before hopping back a short distance. She has pretty good hearing and reflexes, but...she isn't thinking about that. "Of course I can get stronger! Even if I can't work out like a normal human, I can learn and get better!"

The kick is spot on, and Solty yelps as she is thrown back a few feet. She lands unsteadily and winces as an arc of electricity moves over her belly where she was hit. "...okay..." she says quietly to herself. She stands up straight and closes her eyes, and her ears start to twitch, searching for even the most minute of sounds to let her home in on Mortimer. When she thinks she's found him, she leaps and tries to deliver a kick of her own!
Mortimer Balman      There's a nasty CRUNCH sound as the foot lands in Mort's face, breaking his nose. The foot is grabbed after that, held long enough for Mort to crunch it back into more or less the right spot. "Good answer, Solty. I like that.." And then he's gone again, leaving Solty to flail around in the darkness for a few more moments.

There's a creeping sort of feeling of being watched and stalked from all angles, though that may just be the cloying nature of the smoke. And then, a brief moment where Solty might feel a presence behind her! ...Only there isn't. It's in front of her, and the fist that comes down on her is burning as though it has caught flames. It HAS caught flames!
Solty Revant      The little android girl does indeed flail as her foot is caught, and a bit more after she is released. Solty tries to listen again, but Mortimer seems really good at being quiet! Her eyes only open again when she notices a glow in front of her, and that isn't nearly enough time to try and avoid the fire punch!

Solty is knocked back and sent sliding along, flames clinging to her. She is barely able to get up this time, but she stubbornly refuses not to. "Nnng...y-you're strong, Mister Mortimer. But, I have to do better so Roy won't worry!"

The yellow-orange glow from earlier is probably pretty hard to miss in this smoke, and Solty still can't see Mortimer. She has to trust in her hearing once more as she aims her vibrating fists in her best guess at Mortimer's direction. There is a small explosion as she kicks off, sending more rocks and dust flying out behind her. "Here I go! Kyaaaaah!!"
Mortimer Balman      As the smoke begins to dissipate, Mortimer can be seen.. Still standing, after such a ferocious blow has been launched and strikes him dead on in the chest. He didn't even have time to defend, nor did his smoke trick let him avoid it too well. "Haaah.. Good hit, young lady. Very well done." There's a crack sound as he forces his chest out against the fist that has stopped dead against his sternum.

The crack is his sternum straining not to break, and several of his ribs doing so.

But, he's still standing. And he's clearly in better condition than Solty, despite such a powerful blow. "You did very well. I apologize for doubting you. The fight is, however.. Over. You're about to fall apart from the force of your own attack."
Solty Revant      Solty actually winces at the cracking sound despite it not even coming from her. She brings both arms up quickly, ready to defend against the next attack even though she is about to fall apart just as Mortimer says.

But, the attack doesn't come. She blinks, then lowers her arms slowly. "But...it didn't reset yet." she says, looking up at Mortimer with half the pink gone from her face thanks to his attacks. "That means that we can keep going. If I'm going to fight for real, I have to fight like I'm fighting for real...don't I?" she says, then brings up her arms again. "And you said it was insulting not to keep going!" She pauses a moment, then hmphs softly. "I-if you don't hit me, I'll keep hitting you!"

It would be pretty obvious though, given her personality and attitude so far, that she wouldn't actually hit him if he stopped fighting.
Mortimer Balman      Mort pulls his pipe out again and lights it with a small flame that comes off of his thumb. "Aye, I did say that. This isn't me saying the fight is over because I don't want to hurt you. This is me saying the fight is over.. Because the fight is over." His face is sterner now. "You've lost. You could attack me again, certainly. But you won't be able to strike me with the force needed to put me down. I think you can tell that I'm not just being a boastful old fart. The fight is, as such, over, and there is nothing for you or I to gain by me putting you into the dirt."
Solty Revant      Solty's arms lower once again and she looks down at the ground in disappointment, though more in herself than anything. "...okay." she says finally. She heads over to hit the manual reset, and all the damage and the arena itself reset to what they were before. She makes her way back over to Mortimer and tries to offer a smile. "I guess I still need to learn more." she says, holding her hands politely in front of her. "Thank you for your help, Mister Mortimer." She hesitates a moment, then her smile brightens to a more genuine one. "I bet Roy would like you. You should visit us for dinner sometime."
Mortimer Balman      Mort reaches down to fuzzle the little android's hair some. "Don't feel bad. I'm a professional soldier who has experienced war for far longer than mortals ought to.. And I was part of Shaddad Company- the Devastators. Ruin and violence are, unfortunately, what I have proven to be most skilled at. There is no shame in *not* being a monster like me." The stern look fades into a smile as he speaks. "I would be delighted to join your family for dinner at some point. I'll even chip in with some old family recipes if you've got the stuff for it."
Solty Revant      With all the strands back as they should be, the little android's hair is quite fuzzleable, although it doesn't seem to suffer much in the way of style loss because of it. Solty actually giggles a bit at the fuzzling before she listens to Mortimer. "You have? Is it alright if I ask how old you are?" she says. She smiles back as he accepts the invitation to dinner. "I'm trying to get better at cooking, too. Good food makes people happy, so if I can make good food I can make people happy, too!"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer stretches. His body has a tingling sensation from the strange rewinding thing that fixes everything in the shrine. Finding a place to sit himself down- against Ulbrecht's massive foreleg, ideally- he reclines and smokes idly while thinking on how to answer. "I was born a very, very long time ago.. If we go by linear measurements of what we feeble mortals call 'time', it was.. Somewhere between fourty and fourty five thousand years ago? But.." A brief pause to puff on the pipe. "I have not experienced Time as we call it in linear fashion. I might be far younger, or far older, than that."
Solty Revant      Solty follows Mortimer over, but rather than recline against Ulbrecht she lies down on top of his back and giggles a bit, running her fingers through his fluff. She freezes though when she hears how old Mortimer might be. "Oh my gosh! H-how can a person be that old?!" she stammers out, shocked. Then she pauses a moment. "...wait, there's other ways to experience time? You mean you are a time traveller?" she asks, resting with her head between Ulbrecht's ears now.
Mortimer Balman      Reder answers Solty's question first. "<Yea, as Thou serve our Cause- so shalt Thou Persist, till Thou art Slain in Our Names. So Sayeth We All.>" Switchbait continues when Reder stops, "<From Beginning to End, from Birth to Death, Thou dost Pledge Thyself to Us.>" And then finally, Mortimer finishes it- "Our Champion and Warriors, Forever. In the Name of Mew, Thou wilt Know Respite from Thine Rigors at Her Tail. In the Name of Celebi, Thou wilt Know No Time. In the Name of Jirachi, Thy Will be Preserved. Our Will Be Done." The words hold an odd /weight/ to them, as if speaking them alone carried some importance. Ulbrecht simply keeps his head still, ears flicking a little until he's sure Solty is settled, and then he curls up a bit around Mort.

There is silence for a moment. Then Mort starts talking again. "Back and forth across the ages.. Fighting on behalf of my Goddesses.. But as I said, I am very good at breaking and killing things.. ...And I have persisted longer than mortals are built to because of it."
Solty Revant      Solty's ears perk as the group recites what seems like the kind of thing gods are supposed to say to people. She feels the weight and keeps quiet until Mortimer starts talking again. "That...seems kind of sad to me. I mean, not that you guys are still around, but that anyone would need forever warriors to fight for them. And that so much killing is even necessary. I understand that sometimes it helps people, but still...I wish people could just be nice to each other."

She continues to idly pet Ulbrecht, then...actually yawns? She even -looks- sleepy. "I guess I should get home. Roy is probably worried by now." she says, though is pretty slow to leave the comfort of Ulbrecht's fluffy fur. Very slow in fact. "...so fluffy..." she murmurs, her eyes drifting closed.
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer nods. "It was not easy, but it was important. And.. Well, we died, so our Contract is up. The root cause of our death however, decided to drag us back to the mortal coil after being defeated, though. So.. Now it's simply a matter of living what's left of our natural lives. Two of our group has already gone to the Next Life."

Switchbait gently starts to help Solty a bit. "<If you would prefer miss Solty, Ulbrecht can give you a ride home. I will attach a note to him for your adoptive parent if necessary.>"
Solty Revant      Solty startles awake again when Switchbait starts to nudge. "Uwah..? Oh...th-that's alright." She sits up and stretches her arms, then slides down. "I'm not sure how Roy would take it if a giant doggy brought me home." she says with a smile to the Butterfree. "So...you guys all died and came back somehow?" She doesn't seem sure how to even take that.

In the end she just shrugs. "Well, you seem nice. And I guess you might deserve another life if your first one was so long and messy and..." She just shakes her head a bit. "Anyway, it was nice meeting all of you! I hope to see you soon!" she adds, bowing politely to the group. She then takes off at a swift jog for the exit. "Goodbye!" she says, waving over her shoulder before disappearing through the door.
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer and Switchbait wave her off. "Have a good one, kid! We'll see you around!" And then once she's gone.. "Nice girl. Polite and well mannered." "<Absolute treat, sah. Shall we go forage for dinner?>" "Yeah, good idea. Up we go lads." And off into the night of the Multiverse they'd meander.
