Vergil     The crowd booms with applause as Vergil strides out onto the arena. His white hair is slicked back perfectly, and his blue coat flutters in the wind. Cluthed in his hand is his sheathed katana, Yamato. He remains ever impassive aboutt he audience, with every bit of his focus on his opponent. Today it is 'Solty Revant.' An unfamiliar name this time.

He stands facing his opponent, before looking away and adjusting the cuff of his shirt. "You think you stand a chance? Hmph." He widens his stance, keeping his free hand hovering over the hilt of his sword as he awaits the starting gong. The moment it sounds out, his hand blurs and is... sheathing the katana? But he didn't even seem to swing it! And yet, Solty is assaulted by a bubble of slashes, blue lines painting the air about her, aiming to cut her!
Solty Revant      The response when Solty comes out is probably less booming when Solty emerges. The short, green-haired girl waves lightly and smiles to them, then looks at Vergil as he speaks up. "Um...well, not really. But, I'm hoping by competing in this competition I might get stronger." she says. She then bows lightly at the waist. "I am Solty Revant! It is nice t-"

The starting gong sounds when she is in the middle of her introduction, and she blinks before bringing her arms up to try and guard. But, how do you guard against a sphere of slashes?! Minor cuts appear all over her body, and sparks of metal striking metal fly out from each blade impact. No blood flows from any of the injuries, but gleaming steel (or perhaps something stronger) glints in the light wherever her artificial skin was damaged.

Once the attack is over and the sword is being sheathed again, Solty peeks out from behind her arms and blinks a few times. "W-wow! Usually I can see things coming, but I didn't see it at all this time! You must be really fast!" she says with a rather cheerful tone despite being in a battle. "Okay, I guess it's my turn then!"

With little in the way of style or skill, Solty leaps forward. Her hands start to glow with a orange-yellow aura that flows in a watery way and she aims a strong punch at his middle. The impact of the punch is accompanied by an explosion of pure kinetic energy, apparently caused by that aura.
Vergil     "You also seek power?" Vergil's icy demeanour seems to thaw, ever so slightly. "A worthy endeavour. But a tournament like this is for proving the power you have, not honing it." When Solty announces that it's 'her turn,' Vergil is immediately on-guard. Solty dashes in, and Vergil's sheathed katana moves to hit her wrist and push it aside, while his other hand comes up to catch Solty by the shoulder.

The collision of the two sends Vergil sliding back, and the force of the punch kicks up a massive, dramatic blast of wind and cloud of dust behind them. But by nudging Solty's arm, Vergil has kept the blow from hitting him. "A word of advice," he says coldly, right into her ear. "Do not announce your attacks."

He pushes her back, and lashes out with Yamato, clubbing her with the blade still in the sheath. He then brings it to his side and draws the blade, attacking in the same motion. He swings with such force that it would send her flying, only for a phantasmic blue blade to manifest in the air and intercept her arc, pinning her to the ground!
Solty Revant      Solty blinks in surprise as her attack is pushed aside in such a skillful way. Her unusual ears twitch at Vergil's words. "Oh. Okay!" she says, seeming to take his advise happily. She lets out an oof at the clubbing and stumbles forward, only to be sent flying and smashed down into the ground bye the follow up attacks. Wincing a bit as she gets up, and with more gleaming metal visible from the new cut along her back, Solty turns to face Vergil again. "I see...maybe that's why I haven't been doing so well." she says as she lowers back into her amateur fighter stance.

With her hands still glowing, she rushes forward again and throws a couple of quick punches. "I guess after this tournament I'll have to try some actual training or something!" she says. The bursts of energy released with these punches are smaller, but together the series of punches is still potent.
Vergil     Vergil lets out a dry laugh as Solty pushes herself back up. "That much should be obvious," he chides. As Solty comes rushing back in, he has to close up his guard to try and block the onslaught of punches. Bracing his Yamato before himself, he manages to tank a few of them, but several slip through and impact, causing him to grunt in pain.

But suddenly, he moves fast. So fast in fact that he leaves blue trails and afterimages of himself. He reappears a few steps away from Solty and pops his neck. "There is only so much you can learn in a training hall. Get out there. Suffer losses. Grow strong." He moves again, closing the distance in an instant to draw his sword into a spiralling slash that carries her and Solty both into the air. He then lashes out with a kick, aiming to knock her back and use her as a springboard to go higher into the air. Is he planning to do something from up there?
Solty Revant      Solty frowns a bit at the laugh and the comment. "That doesn't mean you have to rub it in." she says. She doesn't seem to have any trouble following his movements even when he leaves those afterimages, then blinks in confusion. "But...that's what I'm doing? I came out here, I've lost matches. I've won one. Isn't that going to help me get stronger?"

She tries to hop back out of the way when Vergil moves in for that spiralling slash, but she doesn't quite make it...and gets dragged upward into the spiral and then kicked down viciously. She faceplants in the ground after the kick and groans a bit as she gets back up. Whatever he is planning to do up there, she isn't just going to wait for it. She crouches down into her fighter stance again, then leaps upward! She actually craters the ground a bit just from jumping, and fires herself blindingly fast. And she even tries some tactics! She rears back as if to punch again, but the punch never comes and instead she throws an upward somersault kick!
Vergil     Solty chases Vergil into the air, and even manages to fake him out. The somersault kick catches him right under the chin and sends him reeling back. But in a sudden blue flash of lightning, Vergil isn't a man anymore. He's a demon, with silver horns, wings, and an organic sheath for the Yamato on his left arm. He flaps his wings to stabilize himself, and attacks. He plummets, drawing his sword from the sheath as he comes down on Solty, bringing them both down to the ground.

But he's not done yet. With a mighty yank, he pulls Yamato up in an upward slash, launching her back into the air. Whereupon an array of spectral swords come plummeting down, pinning her to the ground as Vergil slides the Yamato into that armbound sheath. "Too slow," he says, his voice warped, pitched down.
Solty Revant      Solty's eyes go wide as suddenly...there's a demon! "Uwah?! Wh-what happened?!" Apparently she hasn't had much experience with the less mundane side of the Multiverse. She grunts as she is caught by the dive, and various cries escape her as she is smashed into the ground, slashed upward, and finally pinned to the ground once more.

She is slow to get up this time, and electricity arcs over a few of her deeper injuries. "Ehehe...I guess so." she says sheepishly to the 'too slow'. She clenches her fists and her expression turns more serious. "But, I entered this competition to get stronger, so I have to give my all even when it looks bad, right?" she says as that yellow-orange aura surrounds her whole body this time.

She leaps forward once more...but this time it is her turn to seemingly disappear. No afterimages or blurs of movement. She is simply in one place one moment, and at Vergil's left side the next, already mid spin-kick! Much like her punches, the kick unleashes an explosive burst on impact, and she follows the first up with a kick in the other direction!
Vergil     "That's right. Put it all on the line." Vergil says. He's taking a stance now, still in his demonic form. Energy wafts from his form, filling the air of the arena with a blue haze. His hand shakes as it hovers over Yamato's hilt. And then Solty's kicks impact him. He grunts, and slides a little on his feet, but his stance does not break.

    And then he's gone.

Blue lines trace through the air of the arena. It's like that attack he started the match with, but bigger, and more intense. More and more scars cut through space, and the sections between the cuts seem to slide apart, as if Vergil had cut space itself. At the centre of this flurry is Solty. He's attacking with such speed that he is unseen, such speed that even time itself seems to be holding its breath.

He then reappears where he stood before, now with his back to her. He slowly sheathed Yamato, reverting back to his humanoid form as the hilt touches the sheath. It is then that time seems to remember to breath, space healing the scars he left. "It is when you do everything you can and still fail that your weakness becomes apparent. From there, your journey to power can begin in earnest."
Solty Revant      Solty's eyes widen and her ears twitch as Virgil disappears, and when those attacks start coming in she brings punches and blocks in to counter each one. This doesn't save her from taking quite a bit of damage, but it does save her from actually falling before the attack.

Even so, when the flurry finally dies down at that sword is sheathed again, Solty is left cut to ribbons. One of her twin tails is missing, there are cuts and deep gashes all over her body, and electricity is arcing quite badly over her body. But, that aura hasn't died down. "You look like a monster...but you don't seem that bad. I guess even monsters can be...well, not bad." She was going to say nice, but he hasn't really been nice. Just not really mean.

With that said, she starts toward Vergil again. "But...if I can't beat things like you, then I'll never be able to protect Roy and Kasha and Miss Miranda!" she exclaims as she crouches down...and leaps forward once more. The ground beneath her feet shatters and flies into the air from her powerful leap, and from the following steps she takes in closing in on Vergil. She rushes straight toward him...but rather than the expected punch she once again seems to disappear, and the flying double punch she was obviously going to aim at Vergil comes from behind instead of in front of him!
Vergil     Vergil stands and faces Solty, looking slightly impressed that she's still standing after that. "Not a monster. A devil," he corrects her. He braces for the oncoming double-punch, but she seems to have taken a leaf from her book. Getting behind him, she slams Vergil in the head, spiking him hard into the ground. His body forms a crater, with him prone at the bottom.

He rises, bud he's clearly hobbling. Blood streaks down his head, and his hair is no longer slicked back, but hanging long from his head. He breathes hard, and raises a hand. "Not bad," he concedes, before climbing from the pit and heading out of the arena. With his concession, Solty is declared the winner.
Solty Revant      Solty blinks in surprise when she actually connects cleanly. Ever other time she's tried that attack she had missed completely! She falls back to the ground after the attack, then prepares to keep going. But, Vergil leaves and she looks surprised once more. "I...I won?" she says as the arena resets, removing all of their damage. Her face slowly lights up and she actually hops in place a few times. "I won! I really won!" She then waves to Vergil as he leaves. "Thank you Mr. Vergil!"
