Staren     Staren waves as he walks into the arena. He's armored up, though he carries his helmet in one hand as he waves to the crowd. Once Sanary comes in he gives her a smile and a nod, then puts his helmet on and drops into a combat stance, waiting to see if she'll make the first move.
Sanary Rondel It's time for another fight in the MECC tournament! Sanary still hasn't bothered looking up what the initials actually stand for, but she's raring to go regardless of meaning. The healer has her axes ready both in and out of her coat that's flapping dramatically in the wind that's running through the arena today, undoubtedly chosen to make things look EXTRA DRAMATIC.

She's also looking forward to her opponent specifically today. Why? Because she can't recall ever actually fighting Staren head on. Around him, sure, but with? This should be a fun change of pace for her. "Let's make this a good one, guy. Don't hold back now, got it?!" She issues the challenge with a broad grin, drawing a smaller axe from her coat as she speaks.

Once the pleasantries are exchanged, Sanary gets right into it. She feigns hurling the axe at Staren once, twice, three times, and then she finally lets loose with it on the fourth swing of her arm!
Staren     Staren gives a short chuckle when she says not to hold back. The moment she 'flings' her axe though, his forcefield comes up... and then he briefly looks confused. By the third time he's relaxed the combat stance and just waits. The axe, when it comes, bounces off the forcefield, leaving a crack where it hits. Staren raises his arm and the field drops for a split second as he fires the forearm beamguns -- there's a reticle in his vision so he doesn't have to sight them, just suddenly PARTICLE BEAMS! Not going easy, indeed!
Sanary Rondel This is what she was waiting for. With those particle beams coming towards her, Sanary does what she does best: Get hit and try to heal it off as best she can! The beams burn right into her and her coat alike even as she channels healing magic to mitigate the worst of it, but it's not an attack she wants to take again.

"Not bad... Alright, plan B!" Already? Already. She breaks into a run to get closer to Staren, brandishing her BIG AXE and bracing it on her shoulder while her left arm reaches up to grab one end of it... And then she flings another pair of axes at the man with the lasers!

She's not very fast, but she's got some trickiness up her sleeves. Instead of aiming just wherever, though, she's aiming both high and low, as if testing his defensive ability and his shields alike.
Staren     Staren winces as she's burned. Everyone else still feels /pain/ in these fights, after all...

The misdirection works, but it doesn't matter because he's keeping that forcefield up. More cracks appear in the field. Once again, he fires twin beams at her center of mass, and then... takes off, flying backwards on thrusters in his legs, trying to keep some distance between them. "So where do all those axes come from, anyway?"
Sanary Rondel "Pockets! This coat's great for 'em, see?" Sanary demonstrates by opening up said coat, revealing that she's got at least ten of those things in there. How does she even move?

Carefully. Hunching over to make herself a smaller target, she once again takes those beams head on, grunting angrily at the burst of energy searing right through and forcing her to put her healing into overdrive. "Shit, that's some stuff ya got there... No wonder people get pissed fightin' you all the time." She laughs, then kicks against the ground as her anklets power on, launching her right towards the flier! Her mobility is... Questionable, but she's got much more control of her axe as she tries to catch him off guard with a big chop!
Staren     Staren cackles when she says he's annoying to fight. "I think it's more about having to listen to me talk, but the whole armor-forcefield-flying-smartaiming-shooting /thing/ is nice when it works, huh?"

She flies in with her axe. The field... drops? And he tries to catch the handle of the axe with one hand, but he's not fast enough -- it chops through the armor on his shoulder (revealing... more metal underneath? Once it's pulled away...)

But... he holds onto the axe with one hand, while the other arm suddenly... retracts its armor somehow, metal closing over it and revealing a surprisingly un-realistic arm made of two joined cylinders, and a segmented hand and fingers... The whole arm suddenly glows, and then he flattens his hand and just tries to jab it right through her! There's some kind of high-frequency effect that gives it cutting power, accompanied with a huge discharge of electricity! He's really not pulling this punch!

Steam spews dramatically from vents hidden in his chest and back armor afterwards.
Sanary Rondel "Is it? I mean, you can be kind of preachy, but... It makes sense even to me sometimes, so." Sanary shrugs lightly in mid-flight, doing a brief tumble when that axe catches on Staren and he gets his hand on the weapon. The sensible part of her says to use brute force to get him off, especially when his other arm starts doing something freaky, but...

Well. Sanary's dumb. She wants to see what this is all about. It's only when the arm starts glowing and he does the thrust that she realizes that maybe she shouldn't let her gut make so many decisions.

At least her gut's getting what's coming to it. The mechanical super hand goes right into her, drawing a pained howl from the healer as there is most definitely something going into her that shouldn't be. She chuckles painfully, however, as green light starts coursing through her. "Shit, man... I never knew you were hiding this sort of stuff. What do you even need all that preaching for?!" Sanary starts laughing even as she spits out a glob of blood, drawing a worn tomahawk out of her sleeve to start hacking at Staren wildly instead. If she can't use her main weapon, she'll just have to use ol' reliable instead!
Staren     Staren winces behind his visor, and Sanary's close enough to see it. Although then he looks concerned for himself as she readies a tomahawk and he's kinda stuck to her. He lifts his legs, and then energy wings appear behind him, translucent and orange and buzzing like an insect's... and then he flips them both over as his upper body narrowly twists out of the way of tomahawk blows -- he can't really /dodge/ at this distance, but it keeps landing at the wrong angle, only scratching armor or glancing off--

Turning them in mid-air so he's above her, he then KICKS with both feet and thrusters to send her crashing towards the ground, pulling his bloody arm free.

The armor re-emerges, covering up the blood, and he finally replies "Because the kind of change I want to make in the world... is not to be a dictator who has to force everything. I can't watch every world after I save it... if people come around to my way of thinking, that's less power spent fighting them, and they add their own power to the cause. Besides, forcing everything and never explaining myself looks bad. That kinda thing gets bands of 'heroes' out to stop you just because they don't understand."
Sanary Rondel That gambit didn't quite work as planned as Staren punts her back down to the ground, although she manages to avoid slamming into it headfirst as per her usual habits. Taking a moment to steady herself again and channel that healing magic, the bleeding slows while Sanary rolls her shoulder to try and get the feeling back into it after that awful shocking.

"Lucky you... Hm. Can't say I blame ya, though. I've had plenty of run-ins with that type of 'hero' loads of times already." She laughs, then winces because chest wounds are awful. She also takes another moment to make sure there's enough healing magic going through her lungs before she takes to the sky again, aiming for a significantly heavier chop going upwards to try and cleave right into/through Staren's armor!
Staren     "Lucky? What do you mean?" She comes back for him. She's seen by now, the way the forcefield works: It surrounds him with a translucent amber sphere. So if he dodges closely enough, an attack that would otherwise whiff could hit the field. Which is why he turns it off as she gets close. He tries to juke sideways, she sees it coming... the axe slashes across him, catching armor just right, cutting through, and leaving a great big gash from groin to shoulder, that not only ruins some of the armor's protective ability, but also cut through the metal beneath, to reveal mechanical bits and cut wires gleaming in the light. It's no surprise to anyone that Staren's a robot at this point, though. And of course, while he's no Septette it's loaded with redundancies so he can keep fighting.

He twists away, one of the missile racks on his shoulder pops up... and he flies back and launches a missile at the same time, filling the spot where he just was, and where Sanary hopefully still is, with a sphere of burning superheated plasma!
Sanary Rondel "Being smart. Having all this tech from your home or... Wherever. Having money. If things were different..." Sanary clutches her chest as she channels more magic into her wounds, burning down her reserves rapidly just to try and stay in the fight. The missile coming for Sanary has her weighing her options, and she hurls her tomahawk right at it, causing it to explode right in her face!

At least it didn't explode by hitting her face. That would've been bad. The residual heat from that superheated ball is the only thing stopping her from bleeding all over the place, but at the cost of catuerizing almost all of it. Her coat is falling apart (along with several of those axes), and she's quite literally running on fumes now.

"... Well, I'd probably end up wasting it on useless shit. You... Don't get too full of yourself, but don't let it get to your head! Or someone like me'll come instead of those fake heroes!" Sanary's not quite sure whether that sounds deep or not, but it sounds smart considering all the pain keeping her from thinking straight. Taking to the sky once more, she floats for a moment, then settles back down on her feet.

"... You know what? Screw it. Time to try something new!" Laughing now, she winds up and hurls her main/biggest axe at Staren, but it's much too far to reach him. Mana gathers in her eye, however, as the healer starts firing lasers at the axe. Explosions send it hurtling upwards closer and closer to Staren, threatening to cleave right into him right as another explosive laser is fired at him directly!
Staren     Staren shrugs. "You're right. I was pretty lucky. But I also just don't get why some people care about certain things over usefulness, and that probably makes it a little harder to understand people..."

He quirks an eyebrow as she says she'll try something different. He casually dodges the axe... and then she redirects it, again and again...

He's watching the axe, not her, when a laser blasts his chest open -- more machine parts -- and then the axe buries itself in him, and he's frozen with a stunned look on his face as wings and thrusters shut off and he plummets unceremoniously to the ground, cracking it.

A bell sounds, and then they're reset.

Staren stands and brushes nonexistant dust off his armor, then walks up to meet her, extending a hand and a smile. "Damn. I didn't see that coming, seems you've got plenty of power too."

He glances at where he punched through her and winces. "...Sorry about that. But I wasn't gonna hold back any more than you were."
Sanary Rondel That actually worked? It didn't quite work the way Sanary expected it to, but she's not about to complain about a crazy gambit working for once. She can't really celebrate much right away, though, as she drops on her ass seconds later. Her eye fizzles out, and it stays off for about a minute even after the bell rings signalling the end of the fight.

It might almost look like she's being rude not taking Staren's hand right away, but her eye does eventually turn back on and she does eventually take it to get right back up. "Heh... To be honest, that took a lot of practice and guessing. Also..."

She mutters into her fist. It sounds like she might be muttering 'distractions'. "But hey. That hand thing was freaking nuts. Hurt like hell, too!"

She sounds a little too happy about that.
Staren     "Thanks. Normally I don't use it much because I have to pop the armor off my arms first, and it leaves me kinda lower-power afterwards... Just doing one arm is more manageable, though." He quirks an eyebrow at the way she sounds happy about getting hurt.
