Amelris Belthrone Amelris Belthrone had something of a quiet time in the last few weeks. The battle against the God-Killing Machine and Discordia left him in something of a heap. He's mostly fine and he's certainly not the kind to just sit down to muse over things quietly. The Red Mage is instead spending his reccuperation time to lightly travel around the networks of the Watch, to get a good look at things and the cities that contains them. Building up a relation and meeting with individuals, not to mention doing a fair bit of weaving himself.

It just happens to be the turn of this one, this time around.

The red-dressed Miqo'te is whistling to himself on his bird as he travels through the northen wood of this 'Alaska', having added a nice little layer of clothing on himself and his brown-feathered Chocobo. If the information is to be correct, there SHOULD be something around here. Didn't he talk to her on the radio before?

Whatever the case, the Mage is approaching on a big bird at a leisure pace.
Leyanne It's probably taken a while to find whick one is the right shop - along the river there's actually quite a few workshops, and most of them have slipways, but this one at least has a boat on the slipway, sat on an inspection trolley. Quite a large inspection trolley, considering the boat's 80ft long. As one gets closer, Tubthumper is probably the biggest hint that this is the right place; it belongs either to an Elite or someone with an absolute fascination for 'how much crap can I bolt onto an 80-year-old PT boat?'

The Megamouse herself is laid on a dolly underneath the boat, doing something to the propellors at the back end, and thus entirely oblivious to the feline's approach. The shop's external PA system plays music ( https://youtu.be/4y4CELGOwH8 ) as she works. She's singing along, her feet and tail bouncing from side to side in rhythm to the music.
Amelris Belthrone      Amelris knows of the 'modern' technology in some of the realms. He's not quite familiar with it but he knows enough from previous exposure from his own world's Magitech. There is some frightfully similar things going on, after all. Also, being a Lomisian, he certainly recognises a boat. Maybe not WHAT KIND of boat this is, considering with all the stuff that's been BOLTED on it but hell, a boat is a boat is a boat.

The Red Mage, feeling he found the right place, leaps off his Chocobo, which gives an aimable 'chirrrp', stroking the side of her head as he makes his way over to the boat, tilting his head at the mouse working beneath the boat. His ears bobs briefly at the music playing, giving it a look before saying out, a bit more polite and loud enough to be hear, at least trying not to startle.

     "Hello there. Leyanne, I presume?"
Leyanne Leyanne calls out from under the boat "Uh huh, that's me. One second... here, hold this would you?" A hand appears, holding a long bolt. Once he's taken it, there's a grunt and the mouse slides out from underneath the boat, one of the boat's 5ft propellers laid across her chest. It doesn't take an expert to see that this propeller is trashed; it looks like it's been eaten away by acid, or attacked with abrasives. Possibly even both - there are gaping holes in some of the blades.
Leyanne hefts it off herself with a clank and stands up, looking at the prop. She wipes her hands on a greasy rag - making them slightly cleaner - and then offers her hand. "Nice to meet you. Call me Tiny!"
Amelris Belthrone      Amelris blinks, taking the thing that's been handed out and letting the woman work beneath the boat. He gives the thing a look, frowning a it. Sounds like something that some of the Magitech engineers would've been throwing out while repairing a machine. The propellers do look nice and dangerous.

The Red Mage smiles, looking up at the... well, quite taller mouse-like being that's standing there. 'Tiny', huh. "Amelris Belthrone. Just Amelris shall be fine." He says, taking the hand with a white gloved hand and shaking it. Oh, sure, they'll get dirty, but he don't seem to be very bothered about that fact. "Good to meet you in person."

The Miqo'te do seem in good shape, but there is some clear tuffs missing on his ear and some slight scratches on him. "This is an impressive boat."
Leyanne Leyanne smiles happily "Amelris! Yeah, it's nice to put a face to the name!" She says, brightly. "Welcome to my bike shop - there's always a bed and a cuppa for a friend here, no matter the weather. You been in a fight recently? Didja win?" She asks, cheerfully.

When he mentions the boat, she smiles widely. "He's something isn't he? I've finally discovered 'too powerful' - at least for these props. As soon as we put the power down over about half-way, all three wheels start cavitating and that just eats away the metal. I'm going to have to go to a completely new design." She glances to see how lost Amelris is, chuckling. "I won't bore you too much with the details."
Amelris Belthrone      "A little while ago, yes. It was something if a rough battle -- I am in a far better shape than I used to be. We DID win." The Red Mage replies, taking his hand back and looking up. "But I can't just sit and rest, so I've just decided to take looks around some of the connection points of the Watch, to familiar myself and take orders in case they need things."

He turns to look fully at the boat, tapping his chin as he looks it over. "Mmmn. Well, I don't really GET the engines work, but my home is rather known for it's boats, so I know well and good enough about them." He straightens, rubbing his hands. "Seems like it had a lot of lived life."
Leyanne Leyanne nods happily "Glad you're getting better. That's a good idea, nice to get a look around and get to know folks." She grins. "Well, you know much about cavitation? Basically the propellers are spinning too quick and we can't gear 'em down any more or it'll just start shearing bolts for shits and giggles. As soon as we put on the power, it starts cavitating. I think the only real solution is to move from the current surface-piercing prop design to a fully supercavitating on or we'll never get the power down."
Leyanne Leyanne adds, with a laugh. "I'm a mechanic, I find all this stuff fascinating. Tell me to stop if it's boring."
Amelris Belthrone      The Red Mage hums, kneeling down to give the propeller a look at the machinery. He don't know TOO much about machines but he do know enough about boats. The BOATY parts of the boat seems to be quite fine to him, as far being a small ship like this. "Oh, machinistry is not my field but it is interesting to learn and hear about." The Miqo'te replies, his tail swaying behind him as he give it a curious look, not quite eager to put his fingers into things right now. "So this engine have enough power to push all of this boat with everything you've bolted on it?'
Leyanne Leyanne laughs and nods "Three of them do, yeah. Three gas turbines provide the power... too much power, since I've given it the hyperglass overhaul. You see the shimmer on the hull? That's hyperglass, it comes from a place called the Line - where the Unstoppable Force and the Immovable Object came together on the surface of the Megaplanet and... stopped, while the megaplanet continued rotating under it. There's a big fuckoff scar around the equator of the place, hundreds of miles thick 'cause the Megaplanet is... I don't understand the physics, but the Force and the Object weren't moving on a literally multiversal scale - from the reference frame of the surface, they were doing a several times light speed and... that lead to all kinds of fuckery. Hyperglass is some of that fuckery - you work it like glass, but... if you use it to make something go fast, it works better."
Amelris Belthrone      "The 'Megaplanet' is a strange concept to wrap my head around, beyond the primers I've been reading about." The Miqo'te comments, turning around to look at the mouse woman, standing back up. "So, I take it this material is very useful to make such things with -- if very complicated to actually harvest, then?" He leans down to touch over the piece of hyperglass, poking it once then taking back his hand away.
Leyanne It feels like the boat's hull is coated in glass. There's nothing unusual to feel, beyond glass isn't usually something one would coat a boat's hull with.

Tiny shrugs "Well, not quite as complex as it was before the Force and the Object got separated, but there's a lot of... interesting flora and fauna, most most of it adapted to go fast... Clive's at work or right now you'd be being sniffed by a literal monster truck. He's friendly, but... he can be unnerving when you meet him for the first time." She chuckles. "There's also a lot of weird radiation in some areas of the Line, usually near where you find the good hyperglass."
Amelris Belthrone      Glass IS a strange thing to make a boat with. Glass is not very well known for being able to FLOAT very well or being, more importantly, all that sturdy. If this 'hyperglass' is better in that front, well...

"A... monster truck?" Amelris replies, straightening up, tilting his head in her direction. It is a bit annoying to talk to her, considering she is so tall -- yet it's not really THAT much different than talking to a Roe or a Viera. They are of similar heights. "I see. So it is ALSO difficult to get to it, then."

It is at about that time, where his Chocobo, the big chocolate-feathered colored steed that is now crouched on the ground, feet hidden by her massive tuff of feathers, that one of the saddlebags on her sides suddenly flips open. A glowing, little pair of emerald-colored ears perks up, peering left and right before the rest of a vaguely fox-bunny like head with a red gem in it's forhead pokes out. It's sniffling about, then causally leaps up, bouncing over to behind Amelris.

"I imagine that's not the only vehicle you make, too. I heard you talk about a bike, as well?"
Leyanne A closer look shows the boat to have hull made of planked wood, sealed, painted and then thin loyer of hyperglass has somehow been over the top. That explains at least how it floats, but the durability question does remain unanswered. It might just be a fragile boat - there's plenty of evidence of patches under the glass, and there's a big section of brand new planking in the middle.

She nods with a grin. "Yeah, I rescued him from a bunch of Line bandits. They weren't mis-treating him, but the poor thing had never been properly oiled or had his tyres replaced. He's happier here, and now he works as my tow rig. There's a lot of farms and logging operations around here, having a tow truck that can move his own wheels independantly to where he's got the best traction is surprisingly useful. All he needs is someone he trusts to give him directions and feed him tyres and he's happy." She nods. "Worth it, though, if you need something to go fast. Pull up a crate before I break your neck." She grins, reaching up to tug two crates off the deck and set them down, sitting on one of them.

And then her attention is fixed by that fox-bunny creature. She watches it bounce up, not realising Amelris is asking her a question until the last two words "Hm? Sorry I missed that..."
Amelris Belthrone      It takes a moment for Amelris to fully digest the fact that the creature she is talking about is not just a normal humanoid but actually apparently some sort of living /vehicle/. "Oh. I ... I see! That is actually quite unusual." Is it? He DO have a sort of living vehicle in his acquintance, but that was mostly just a Mammet core inside of a large warmachine that made it a lot friendlier. "Huh? Oh, thanks you." The Red Mage says, taking a seat on the other crate. Well, that WAS considerate of her to notice that he WAS cranking his neck up like that.

The Carbunckle bounds over to the Red mage, leaping up on his lap where the Miqo'te absently stroke it's head, smiling. "Oh, I just asked if that's the only vehicle you worked on. I remember you talking about a bike before."

Then, he tap the head of the tiny glowing critter gently with a finger. "And his name is Emeraldo, by the way. He's a familiar of sorts."
Leyanne Leyanne nods "Yeah, but he's happy, I couldn't leave him with them, you know?" She smiles. "Naw, I generally build motorbikes. The bike I usually ride if I'm going to be fighting is that one." She points over at the Batpod-like bulk of Skrat, lurking in the parking lot. "That's my Arkadyne Model-14 cavalry bike I was issued with. I didn't build him, but I've built a lot of the parts here. Beyond that, I build customs to ship out through the warpgate and the local airport, it keeps the lights on and leaves me with enough free time to help out around the community, keep my gear running, and follow my hobbies. Following the old retired soldier's dream, you know? Out of the way, but close enough to get involved in shit on my terms."
Amelris Belthrone      Amelris nods. It is a practiced, well-honed stoic nod, it seems, having acknowledged hundred of different conversation with heavy weight of attention of a Warrior of Light. "Hm. Then... would it be possible to pass a comission, then? I would be interested in a 'motorised vehicle', even if last time I've piloted one didn't go... quiiiite well. I need some experience with them."

The Carbunckle leaps off the red mage's lap, toddling over to Leyanne's feet and sits down, looking up. It's ears bobble left and right as he tilt his head left, right. As if it was begging.
Leyanne Leyanne reaches down to let Emaralda sniff at her hands, and, if accepted, starts applying ear-scritches and fuzz. "I can help with both." She says, happily. "I can build you a bike to your exact specifications, and I can help teach you to ride." She pulls out a notepad and pen, taking notes. She's left-handed. "To be honest, you're gonna need two bikes, one for training on, and your final badass custom. Your training bike will be limited in power, and features to make it easier on you when you fall off."
Amelris Belthrone      Emeraldo push his head into the stroking hand, much like any kind of adorable critter that is used at breaking hearts and being petted by all sort of strangers. It's a bit of an opportunist that way, for an aether-created little being.

"A simple bike will be fine, really. Something that'll be sturdy, at least -- and if possible, to traverse sand if that is also possible." He smiles, the Miqo'te confidently leaning back, his tail shooting up to balance himself since there is no back rest on a crate. "I'm pretty confident in learning for it and, quite honestly, no point on getting a big model until I need it."
Leyanne Leyanne nods "I was going to suggest a dirtbike anyway, so if you're not after somethign with some power, I can make you a good dirtbike. Nothing too powerful... what sort of power source are you looking at for it? I can use pretty much any engines from the multiverse, so long as it can be shipped here."
Amelris Belthrone      "Hmmm. Likely something that I can use when I'm out and about. Maybe an Aetheric power source could work. Something self-sufficient, anyway." Amelris waves a hand, Emeraldo flopping down on the ground beneath the scritches. "Solar, perhaps?"
Leyanne Leyanne nods "Solar can work pretty well, so long as you've got reliable sunlight." She agrees, still fussing the little critter. "It sounds like you're headed into a desert, so that won't be too much of an issue but you'll have to keep the panels clean. "Aetheric, I'm not familiar with, but if it can output its power as torque, I can harness it to make a bike run."
Amelris Belthrone "I'd have to talk to the Ironworks but... perhaps they might be able to." Amelris shrugs. "Otherwise, what would you suggest for as little hassle as possible?"
Leyanne Leyanne looks thoughtful "Solar's useful, if you've got no options for liquid fuels or refuelling options. Yang uses Dust but that's from her homeworld, I can do gas, electric, diesel or hybrid, gas turbine just from stuff I've got here, but like I said if you can provide me with a power-plant that provides torque, this big or smaller, I can make you a bike around it. Doesn't matter what's actually running it, the bike's mechanics don't care about that. Half the fun is the challenge in building around weird and wonderful power-plants." She holds her hands apart, about the size of a decent bike engine.
Amelris Belthrone      "Then I shall look into it." Amelris says, pushing himself up to his feet, with a slight hint of a grunt to lend out a hand at the mechanic. "In return, I am a Weaver. If you need something that is cloth-based, I will be able to make it for you, most likely. Just cold, hard Gil will also work if that is what you need."
Leyanne Leyanne looks grins shakes the hand "Awesome, while you're getting the engine, work out a detailed list of everything you'll need out of the bike - range, carrying capacity, three wheels or two, what kind of terrain you'll be taking it through, that sort of thing. No detail is too small, man - this is a custom, after all. It's all about me making something that's perfect for you." She stands. "And I'll think on what I could do with in terms of cloth. I generally go with ripped clothes or mechanic's gear, so maybe when you come back you can tell me more about that side of things, what sort of weaving you do and the like."
Amelris Belthrone Amelris grin, his ears fluttering as he steps back, waving down hands at his own outfit. "You are looking at a sample, right now! I do hats, coats, shirts, pantalloons. Fighting-grade things such as this! Fabric is my realm of expertise."
Leyanne Leyanne looks thoughtful. "You know, I might have just the thing. Can you do leather jackets, sheepskin-lined, with a patch, a name-tag, and pouches for floatation devices built in? The bomber jacket is a traditional look for Martian boat crews..."
Amelris Belthrone      "Hmmm." Amelris strokes his lightly beared chin in thought, looking up and down the cyborg mouse. "I can think of something. I don't do pure leather things but I am certain I can make something workable for you. Something... nicely fashionable and practical, as it ought to be for adventurers."
Leyanne Leyanne nods happily "I'm gonna need eleven - I don't crew Tubthumper on my own. If that's more than the bike's worth, I'll happily pay cash."
Amelris Belthrone      At first, the Miqo'te don't answer, his feline eyes are focused on the mouse, looking up and down and making mental calculations. A whole band of them? Hm. Something that ought to give them the good look of freedom and rebellion to authority, yet remaining fashionable. Perhaps something with toadleather? Yes, toadleather will likely do the trick on that front, or perhaps Basilisk. Something black and gray. Yes.

"Hm? Oh, yes, don't worry. It'll be a good challenge on my side and working with new fashion styles will do me good in expanding my horizons. Very well! Then we have a deal."
Leyanne Leyanne grins "Excellent." She says happily. "I'd better get back to work - I need to get the other two propellers off before sundown so I can take measurements. Feel free to drop by any time, AMelris - it's a Safe House, everyone in the Watch is welcome."
