Mortimer Balman      Let it not be said that Mortimer Balman is nothing if not skilled at trying to be a good date. On the outskirts of a smaller city within the Core-zone, he has chosen a small restaurant that looks to be about half 'real' and half 'digitized'. It looks to be some manner of French restaurant- if you can read the name it's called La Petit Debutante. It's small but nice, not quite so upscale that you can only eat there if your nose is at a 45 degree angle, but it's not the kind of place you go to order a burger and fries or eat with your hands. It's nice; reasonably high quality, and in a somewhat more upper-crusty sort of setting. Not five star, but you still need to get reservations, and they'd like it if you dressed nicely, sil vous plait. A soft song which sounds something like Vivaldi's Autumn, only being played by synthetic violins with a bit of an elektronica remix, is being played smoothly in the background.

Mortimer is waiting there for his date, wearing his 'dress greens'. Which is to say, wearing a fancy military uniform- somewhat reminiscent of late-1800s Ottoman uniforms. Neatly pressed pants, with the feet folded into well polished boots. Olive green coat that goes past the waist, decorated with a dull gray braided trim around the shoulders and the insignia of his old rank on the left arm- looks something like a First Sergeant's insignia, but it has parallel swords pointing at each other instead of a star between the curves and chevrons. Silver cufflinks shaped like little flames. Kerchief sticking out of his right breast pocket, folded down into a triangle. No ribbons or medals displayed though.

The old Typhlosion-morph appears to be speaking with a couple of waiters to finalize dinner preparations.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa had not thought too badly of whom she ended up with on the Chairity Auction. Mort while sometimes vocal on the radio generally seemed to be a decent man right? There's no harm in dating heck dating out side her species as well it should be interesting right? So here she was she noticed it was french and there's nothing wrong with small places. Sometimes they had the best food in all honesty.

She liked the movie she likt the sense of the place as she arrives she's dressed actually fairly formally given Mort has given her the head up of the sort of place. She's wearing a dress with a very much tech cut it's a red one that hugs her well enough but not dipping into being the sort of thing that might cause a scandal.

"Mortimer?"

Kotone from the looks of her is of Japanese decent, so far as earths go and otherwise seems to be quite pretty but there's something slight about the eyes that isn't right.
Mortimer Balman      Despite not being of Japanese descent himself, Mortimer does come from a Japanese game series, and as such speaks an older dialect of Japanese perfectly. "Ah, miss Kotone! You lads have the rest of the order done, right?" The waiters nodded, and Morty shoo'ed them off. He'd pull out a chair for Kotone, "Lovely dress- I've never seen anything like it! ...Really, I haven't, that's a new pattern to me entirely." Once she's seated herself, he'll take his own. And then he'll poke at his silverware a bit. It looks like it's made out of pixels and light, and that is somewhat confusing to him.. But he'll figure that all out later. "I trust the atmosphere is to yer likin', yea?" It's probably weird to hear someone speaking Japanese with what sounds like a very Irish mixed with Arabic accent, but nonetheless, there it is. "I pray you don't mind but I've taken the liberty of orderin' an appetizer in advance for yah, to make sure that the food delivered will meet your dietary needs. I hope that's not too forward."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa smiles a bit she appicates the effort Mort's done and she says "Good to meet you in person."

She grins a little bit and sis seated in short oder she looks over Mort and she's trying to place his accent. HEr own Japanes is accented hinting it's not her primary lanuage.

"Your accent I'm not sure I can even guess to place it. Oh if they mix some cybrog food in that's perfectly fine. I still eat for the sanity factor of it to be honest."
Mortimer Balman      "Ah, that would be a 'Groudan' accent. My home continent shares much in common with several Earth nations from its European and Middle Eastern regions. I would love to show it to yah, but alas, it doesn't seem to have unified with me.. Or if it has, it's unified at a temporal point that I'm unable to recognize in the slightest." He'd settle back in his seat a bit. "Well not so much 'just cyborg food mixed in'- I read up a bit on you as best as I could and saw that people with similar biological states require special food. So instead of just protein bars or some such--" He looked over his shoulder. "...Or some such.." Pause. Ears flatten to his skull as he looks back. "I was tryin' to look smooth by havin' them deliver on cue.. Guess they're runnin' a wee bit behind, though." Ah well. C'est la vie. "Ah.. ..." He scratches his head a bit. "Well now I'm just startin' to look foolish.."

A waiter hustled out, "Sorry, monsigneur Balman! The chef insisted on double checking it all to make sure it was correctly done, though!" Mort chuckled a bit, and waved a hand dismissively. "Just serve it, lad." A platter was placed on the table, along with a bottle of a sweet red wine. The waiter then hurried off. "Smoked salmon chunks, with a bit of cream cheese and cucumber, on a bland but simple granola-based wafer. Very high in protein! And should be easily digested. Reasonably low in carbs, too."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa Says "Ah I see, makes sense or it could be in another sector. I heard of that happening but it does sound like much. Just don't try it your seld it's aweful tasting to someone who still has thier orginal body."

She makes a face it's got a reputation for being nasty tasting she has to think Mort's done his home work for the most part.

"That's fine with me we have more time to talk."

She notes but then the waiter arrives she looks and has to think this place does seem to pride it self on service. The smoked Salmon gets a perk out of Kotone, which was fairly big fair where she grew up.

"Salmon is fantastic1"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer shakes his head a bit. "I've been lookin' round for it for years. When I had my company's assets at my disposal, before the stock crash killed it, I had people lookin' all over the place. No signs of it as per my descriptions anywhere.. But no matter. Even if it /was/ here, chances are it's unified at a point in the timeline far displaced from the one of my birth.. So it's small matter either way. Anyway! Food." He'd smile a bit at her approval of his choice in appetizers, and then pour them both a glass of wine. "So what line of work are you in? I'm little more than a CPA now, myself.."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa Says "Well it doesn't mean you should give up right?"

She nods for a moment and sh wonders about a few other means to fignds bit but she gets an idea and goes for the food now shich she takes a moment to try. After a moment she replies.

"Mechanic and designer, and as of late Adventurer of all things. Didn't mean to become one just kinda happened."
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer shrugs a bit, and slides a menu over to Kotone. "Eh.. I'm okay with giving up on that by now, to be honest with you. It's been so long since I was home, no one'd recognize me t'all anyways. I've got a new home now, and it does me just fine." If he was even remotely sad about this, it didn't show in his smile. "Yea, adventure has a habit of comin' to folks who otherwise don't go lookin' fer it. S'the way of Events to go as they see fit, regardless of Plans." Taking a sip of his wine, "What sorta mechanic? Cars, bikes, trucks, flyin' things, boats, things that go in space, other stuff..?"
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa chose to move on from that topic of Mort's home and listens to his reply to her own bit on her life.

"Cars, bikes, trucks, I been getting a lot of ... lessons on space related technologies given some of the people I'm running with. It would be quite a good idea but I also design I have one I managted to get from the design board to an actual prototype!"

She does seem escited about that quite a bit.
Mortimer Balman      It really doesn't bother Mortimer that much at all, but eh, moving on! "That sounds dandy! I've always wanted to do more with space-y sorts of things, but my species.. Doesn't handle a lack of atmosphere that well, and zero g can even be harmful to us if we're not careful! ...Well, moreso than it otherwise would be t'humans, I mean." He pauses when the waiter returns, and politely asks of Kotone, "What would the mademoiselle care to eat tonight? I have a small list of recommendations if you are not sure."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa thinks for a moment as sh heard about the food and thinks.

"I think I'll go for the Salmon it's been far too long since I been able to enjoy some."

She turns her attention back to her dfate for nowa s she thinks.

"So I only noticed you seem to be mostly retired, just enjoying the world for the most part and listening to broadband?"
Mortimer Balman      "The salmon platter? Very well, mademoiselle." The menu is collected, and the waiter scurries off. Mortimer leans forwards, folding his hands under his chin and nodding a little. "Aye, more or less. I haven't much patience nor ability to get invested in the whole 'grand war' between the Union and the Confederacy- unless they do somethin' foolish what draws me into it by force. Though I do enjoy a good scrap, I try to avoid nasty politics-filled entanglements. I.. Just try to do what little good I can here and there; help folks with their taxes, documentation, accountin', sometimes try to spread some good amongst the poor souls in the Imperium of Man or wherever, and then I go home. But I'm definitely far too old to keep playin' these war games."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa us:says "Humm the grand war? I'm aware certain groups on my world have made connections. Some nations have signed up with the Union but I'm not so sure about somethingsabout it. A number of it's personel are people whom I'd trust but I'm not sure about the rest. My world was almost destroyed by two more world wars in my life time. I'm not sure us getting wholy involved is a good idea. Everyone deserves some rest. I have heard of the Imperium. It's a sad place from what I know of it. Trying to stay alive but it's turned on it's own people at least what I can see."
Mortimer Balman      "Not quite, in fact!" Mortimer sips at his wine again. "It's actually an /extremely/ complex political situation. A million worlds inhabited by various strains of humanity in a grand empire- but the man who made it has been dead for thousands of years. The only way they could keep it together was to create the Imperial Cult, but the only way to get anywhere- to send information or manpower- is through using this thing called the Warp- some sort of.. Hyperspace dimension of thought and dream and emotion, ruled by horrific dark gods called the Ruinous Powers, who are always seeking to destroy it all. On top of that they barely understand most of their own technologies, which they have turned into /another/ religious thing, the Machine Cult. And there's hardly enough resources to go around at any given time, so some worlds are savage stone-age backwoods, while others are colossal hive worlds with tens of billions of people, and still others are anywhere between primitive tribal worlds to cosmopolitan agrarian cultures. It's sad, yes, but also quite fascinatin' if you like anthropology at all!" He pauses in his rambling to take a drink again.

"There's much more to it than that, but.. Well, this is a /date/, and many aspects of the Imperium simply are not topics fer dinner conversation." The waiter came back with two more platters, and introduced- "For the mademoiselle- poached salmon steaks with a citrus buerre blanc, lightly fried shiitake mushrooms with brown butter, and a small nicoise salad with kalamata vinaigrette." And then on to Mortimer, "For the monsigneur, vinegar chicken drumsticks, moules marinieres, and a soupe a l'oignon. There is also a bowl of our house special onion soup to enjoy at your leisure. Bon appetite!"

Mortimer would pick up a fork and begin removing the meat from his drumsticks first as the waiter finished laying out their spread and walked away. "Ahh.. You see, it's things like this, that make me wish I'd become a professional chef, like my Ma was."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa has found this has been a pretty good date so far, she'd lucked out as far as things had done with the auction. She listen as Mort explains a bit more about the Imperium and nods a little bit and shakes her head a little bit.

"I heard some of the Imperial Space Marines mention succh a few times about the warp."

She get an ideia and gets a few ideas about how bad it is. She wonders how something like that could happen. However she gets that's how it can go in the multiverse.

"One could spend several lifetimes to just scratch the surface of something so big and the multiverse is even larger. Food seems to be one the more constant things in the multiverse yes."
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer scoops a chunk of soupy, cheesy bread down his mouth- chewing with said mouth closed of course- and licking his lips clean afterward. Damn, this stuff was good. "Ain't that the truth! About the only thing I've found remains constant is food. Everyone needs it, and it should always be good." And then he'd try to crack open one of the mussels from his miniares. "..How the.." Trying to pry at it with fork and knife was doing nothing. "..Son of a.." He'd lean down and squint at the clam, and then snap his mouth over it. A second snapping sound was heard. "YACK!" The clam was now biting onto his tongue. "Ow ow leggo sthoffit leffo! Gerioff!" CRUNCH. His teeth chomped through it's shell. "....Coulf you paff me a napkinf, pleafe?"
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa says "It might not be entirely so but it seems to be nearly so yes."

She goes quiet for a moment and she starts to go work on her food, she seems for a moment and she stares at him for a moment she pauses stares and moves to get her napkin and pass it to Mort. It seems his food is fighting back somehow!
Mortimer Balman      Calmly, carefully prying chunks of shell out of his mouth and teeth and wiping away the blood, Mortimer avenges himself by eating the succulent insides of the clam. "...Anyway now that I don't look as stupid as before, anything you'd care to do after we're done eating? Movie, an arcade, a nice drive, something else..?" Quickly moving on from that embarrassing moment from before, he starts cracking the mussels open before daring to eat more of them. Stupid mollusks. Deserve to be food! All of'em!
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa wtches as Mort cleans up but keeps looking like she's being polite she thinks for a moment as she savours some more of her meal. After a moment she replies.

"Given a place like where we are I's say an arcade would be fun, who knows what sort of things they have here!"
Mortimer Balman      "Capital idea, yea. P'raps we can find some sort of super-fancy Dance Dance Revolution machine, that'd be fun.." Mortimer looked up at the sound of rain as it started to fall- not too hard, but not terribly lightly, either. The diners themselves were of course protected- an unseen field of thin 'hard' light stopped the rain from soaking them while they ate, and added to the atmosphere a good degree.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa grins for a moment at Mortimer as they finish up. She pauses at the mention of Dance Dance Revolution that does sound fun, if she's careful not to break the machine due to her body's weight. It looked like it would be a fun evening all around.
