Taro     Septerra is a strange place. Not the strangest place in the Multiverse, but it's likely in the running. After all, how many worlds have floating continents, several layers of them no less?

Only one of them has Taro and Allan's attention today, the second layer, otherwise known as Oasis. If there was ever a place where the adage 'one man's trash is another man's treasure' fits, this is it. Allan and his crew may feel right at home here, actually...
Taro would have selected the lee side of a fairly remote high-topped dune for this little experiment, far enough from one of the scavenger towns to have hopefully escaped notice while they set up, but close enough to be within range of Allan and company's invention.
The Bishop Engineer has been taking a rather hands-off approach. This is Allan's invention and his chance to demonstrate, and so unless he's asked to assist, he'll stand aside and watch. And keep an optic and sensor out for any scavenging parties who might risk stumbling upon them.
Allan Bodily     Damnit, should of brought a salvage team.

The through ran through Allan's mind as he and his crew set up on the side of the dune. The set up is actually pretty simple, pulling bits and pieces fro mteh back of a truch to make what looks like a crude mortar. on a stack of cinder blocks someone else sets up a slightly outdated laptop.

Neal is nowhere to be found, which is likely for the best. This requires some degree of stealth and Neal well... he's not so much on keeping quiet.

after a few moments ofset up, two crewmen bring a crate off the truck, opening it to reveal something odd... it appears to be an artillery shell, a really fat one. but it's clearly been modified, several holes have been carved out around it's surface, filled with microphones, camera lenses all sorts of stuff for recording data.

allan speaks up. "alright, here's the Burner probe. you point out the target, my boys fire it, flip the switch on that laptop and We hopefully get a good close up look at whever it is has your interest. At least untill the local vigilantees get at it, assumin' the crash doesn't kill it first."
Taro     It is a rather inelegant device, isn't it? Still, Taro doesn't quibble over the aesthetics of it. Whether it -works- is more important than how pleasant it is to look at. He shifts his gaze away from the probe toward the scavenger town. "Mm. Over the town I think would suffice, or as far as its range will go," he decides.
Maya Maya had been not one to be home often, it's not that she didn't want to, it's just it's best the decenant of Kyra to not make much poltical noise, right? SO here she was just heading to the oild Junker ot get osmething to eat and drink. The damage from the attack drone had been mostly fixed by this point, however two people might just ... be getting Maya's ire up shortly.
Allan Bodily     Allan nods. "Gotcha." He loosk back to his crew. "You heard him boys, let's hit the town." Immeidarly the crew scrambles, everyone taking up positions as allan shoves the burner probe into the makeshift mortar they've set up. moments later, the crewmen standing at the laptop gives a thunmbs up. "We're set boss!"

    "FIRE!"

    *BOOM!*

The mortar rocks as the probe is set sailing for town, hopeflly it clears the town, if not? Well... someone's gonna need a wall or roof repaired. "Feed's live, boss. We're recording."
Taro     Taro makes a note that the noise is going to be a factor in future launches. Not ideal for absolute stealth...though in this time and place it may be less of an issue.
Once the probe has been launched, he'll join the others in huddling around the laptop. "How well is it working?"
Maya Maya's just walking along, in a fairly good mood, but that changes a bit as something goes flying over the city she looks up and pauses her eyes narrowing.

"What is that?"

It's got Maya's attention all right the question is who, and why. Also where is it coming from.
Allan Bodily     The crewman speaks up. "Camera's are holding, spin's still throwing things off a bit but..." he shrugs. "Play back in slow-mo. Slight whistle on the mic, should still catch anything important." Allan smailes at this. "for a first run? not too bad eh?"

The laptop is shoing some interesting footage, as the probe sails over town. particluarlly near the end of it's flight as the ground starts to catch up really REALLY quickly. The *THUD* would drown out everything on mic for a moment.
Taro     "The whistle can be cleaned up afterward," Taro notes. "So long as it's not drowning out all of the other sounds, that is." The smile goes unreturned, but his tone of voice sounds quite pleased. "It appears to have worked well. I would call it a success, though I'll reserve full judgement until after we've had a chance to more thoroughly review the data it's captured."
Then, the probe crashes with a mic-disrupting crash. "Have we lost all signal?"
Maya Maya looks for a moment now nd starts to try and starts to track it. The thing went down in the scrap piles outside Oasis. Dinner is forgot about as Maya takes off like a shot going to see where it landed. Whomever launched it would likely want to recover it right?
Allan Bodily     "Equipment got a bit of a scare, but we're back to normal now."

Allan would wlak over to get a good look at the laptop, video quality's a bit low given the somewhat outdated tech in the probe, but it get's the job done, the screen shows a nice 360 degree view of the scrapyard around where it landed. "Probably not much time untill the locals crop up to get a look. We're likely done here unless you want a looksie at who they are. Might get a mug or two you recognise. Otherwise that's it 'cause the probe's..." He waves a hand. "Not so much on moving about once it lands."
Taro     The resolution isn't bad, considering the quality of the parts involved and the quality of the landing. Taro continues gazing at the screen for a long moment, resting chin on gloved hand in a pensive gesture. "Of course...did you include a self-destruct, or are you expecting the impact to normally take care of that?" Then, to answer the implied question, "Let's continue letting it run a while longer, to see whether it gained attention."
Allan Bodily     Allan shakes his head. "Survaliance equipment means no room for the boom. Sorry man." He shrugs. "That's the other reason we used old tech. We built this so whatever happens next doesn't matter much. Hopefully the local do-gooders just up and smash the evil evil probe for us. Failing that? It's all obsolete equipment and doesn't store what it records on-probe. If they take it in for stuady, there's not much to learn and better yet? we get a look at wherever they drag it off. Well, 'til they eitehr shut it off or it goes outta range anyway."

Meanwhile, the probe sits in the small crater it left whever it landed, camera, microphones and other sensors recording data form the immiedate area.
Maya Maya is going to be on a bit of a hike to get to the wreck but she's not intening to destroy it no. She'd find it slamme dinto a montain of scrap and she scrambles over the wreckage. The two watching might just notice a certain blue haired junker comming up. One Taro now knows to have a wrath of a god mode. Thoughs he doesn't seem to have control over it.
Taro     Oh yes, Taro knows that face, and a flash of recognition plays across his own.
Of course they would attract -her- attention. Fate, Murphy's Law, call it what you will.
A quiet grunt. "How far is its range again?"
Allan Bodily     "Huh... kinda cute, we planning to kill her?" Allan says in a worringly casual manner as he watches Maya pop up on screen. "Range? I'd give it a mile or so before it all goes ta #$&? Might be able to improve it a bit, but it'd have to be on this end for obvious reasons. Why? Got somethn' extra long range in mind?"
Maya Maya looks at the thing unaware of who sent it and noe she's starting to look it over. The first thing she notes? It's likely extraveral it doesn't look like anytthing to come out of a machine shop or factory on her world. "Who would have...."
Taro     "Maya, known Union operative," Taro begins in an abbreviated briefing while the woman's face fills part of the screen. "She and I have met, and I would deem trying to eliminate her here in her own territory an exercise in suicide." A sidelong glance at Allan. "With apologies to present company."
He returns his gaze to the laptop screen, making a small waving gesture to denote the probe itself. "I ask because she may decide to take it with her. Which could be either of interest or a hazard to us."
Allan Bodily     Allan grins. "Hey, you get it. Put's ya ahead of most of the Union." he even reaches out to give Taro a quick slap on the back. "I don't think half of them get the whole regen thing yet. Whelp, nothing to do but watch then. We cna go over improvements later if you want."

as for hte probe, to quote form last time: it appears to be an artillery shell, a really fat one. but it's clearly been modified, several holes have been carved out around it's surface, filled with microphones, camera lenses all sorts of stuff for recording data.

It's obviously a probe, albiet a rather weird one.
