Guest Lapis Lazuli     It's about an hour later and the beach has cleared up substantially. North of the site where the battle with the corrupted gem took place, there isn't any evidence of broken glass or blood on the sand. It's serene again. Pretty much as soon as the situation was defused, Lapis put the escape bubble pod on autopilot and had it follow her along the beach. She'd barely said goodbye before just walking off, as gems often do.

While the escape pod trundles along on four stubby legs in the dry sand, Lapis keeps to the part of the sand that's wet. Her bare feet leave imprints in the wet sand that disappear as the water rushes to shore. The calmness that was there before has faded away into the normal rhythm for the sea. Overhead some seagulls call out and fly in circles, searching for food.
Sunstone     The hovercar putters along as Sunstone catches up to Lapis, the vehicle not making much noise when it's not moving too quickly. Sunstone calls over to Lapis. "Hey!" she calls over at Lapis, apparently desperate for the blue Gem to sit still long enough for them to talk, this being the third attempt to get Lapis to sit still long enough. "Hey! Come on!" She waves her arm in a comically fast way to try to get Lapis' attention, driving up ahead of her so she doesn't miss the sight.

Sunstone is whining, that is something she is doing. She still smiles, but the stress of all of this is starting to wear on her. She's not exactly made for dealing with all of this craziness.

Because of her goofy display, she has to recorrect the trajectory of the hovercar and it sputters to a halt when she hits the brakes on it, ruining even the slightest hint of grace that she might've displayed before.
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis does a pretty good job of ignoring Sunstone until the car jerks to a halt. With it, she stops and looks over. "Are you okay?"

Her wings are still drawn, folded up behind her despite not being in use at the moment. Unlike before she's also no longer walking on top of the water, and instead letting it wash over her. The scanner she was using is now back in the escape pod. Her brows furrow for a moment, in thought or confusion as she considers Sunstone again. Her arms fold over her chest and she leans a bit to the side. "What do you want from me?"
Sunstone     "First, your name," Sunstone replies to Lapis, but then goes on to say, "I'm Sunstone. I'm /not/ a Crystal Gem, but I am a rebel, uh... kind of. It's a long story, and I can explain if you just let me do that." She looks around nervously, because now she's starting to think the Multiverse is just engineered to make it impossible to get more than a couple of words out of this Gem. "I hadn't seen another Gem until I ran into you and... her." She hesitates, not saying Peridot's name for whatever reason... it seems she doesn't like Peridot very much.

"I'm sorry if I scared you, I didn't make a very good first impression," she goes on to say, seeming a combination of awkward, sad and even more awkward, thanks to the way she keeps forcing herself to smile despite how uncomfortable she is trying to talk to someone who obviously doesn't trust her at all.
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis pauses, appraising Sunstone again before she says softly, "Lapis.. I'm Lapis Lazuli." Her arms fall back to her sides. "Is that really true? Then why did you attack Peridot?" Her face burns to a slightly darker navy blue as she folds her arms again but more tightly, eyes looking over Sunstone's left shoulder rather than directly at her eyes now. "Not that I'm defending her." She's still a bit angry at her, herself. Yellow Diamond doesn't have any control here, as far as they know.

But as Lapis thinks about this, she starts to seem a little bit more sullen. If Yellow Diamond ever is found, it could be trouble. That and Peridot's promise.. Well..
Sunstone     There's a question that Sunstone struggles with. She looks away from Lapis, and down at the steering array, an awkward pause when she tries to think about how to explain this. To another Gem, it should be okay... right? This one is obviously not like Peridot, there's a history there. She struggles with the answer visibly, and Lapis might be able to read numerous stormy emotions try to break through the mask of cheer.

"Because I was a lot like her, at one point," she tells Lapis, vaguely, "And just seeing her again burns me up." She turns in her seat. "I don't think you would be able to forgive me if I explained the whole story," she tells Lapis, her voice softening. "But we have a bad history. She doesn't remember because the last time I saw her, my gem got trapped under one of her ships for... I think several centuries, yeah, after..." She looks away again when she trails off, her smiling gaze becoming kind of vacant.

"What happened with you?" she wonders at Lapis, trying to change the subject, but not looking up and her face barely changing.
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis looks uneasy for a moment when she finally does look back at Sunstone. The cheery disposition is gone, and in its place really isn't much else. 'Why is she trusting me?' she thinks to herself, but it really does take off at least a little bit of her edge. Again she relaxes a little.

"I know what that's like," Lapis admits, sighing. This isn't terrible information to give out, at least no harm can come to her or others by letting the story be told. It was her punishment at one point. A small mirror forms in the water behind her and levitates towards her in a bubble. With her hand outstretched, and palm towards the sky she 'holds' it, "I was a prisoner in this mirror for hundreds of years." The mirror ages in her bubble, eventually becoming cracked and worn. "Then I was set free." The bubble pops and the mirror of water splashes back down into the sand.

The water around her feet seems to spike around her, like raised hackles. "And I was kept there by the Crystal Gems. They didn't care about me or who I used to be."
Sunstone     Sunstone looks up from her trance and toward the representation of the mirror. As Lapis explains, Sunstone's forced cheer is replaced with a strange, mellow smile, like she's starting to relax now that the two of them are not going to go at each other's throats. She carefully climbs out of the hovercar after the mirror pops and sits against the side of the vehicle, her arms crossed. It's easier for conversation that way.

However, this brings up an urgency in her mind. Her head turns, remembering where she put the corrupted Gem's bubble. Her eyes lid a moment there, and then she looks back to Lapis, momentarily holding out her hand for the bubble to float over to her, and land in her hand. She stares at the gem within.

"Cruelty sometimes comes from ignorance," she tells Lapis, "But I don't know if they meant to do you harm. They could've just been afraid of you... like we're afraid of this Gem here." She raises the bubble a moment to indicate it. "Everyone makes mistakes, Lapis. Sometimes those are really bad mistakes. Do you think you could forgive them?"

That's the second time she's advocated forgiveness.

"You don't have to," she assures, "I just ask that you think about it."
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis chills out after a moment, running a hand through her hair as she sighs. Her anger towards the crystal gems is both tempered and made worse by the fact that she can't find Steven. She's worried, and Steven probably doesn't even know. For a moment she looks absolutely drained, and her shoulders slump. While Sunstone presents the bubbled gem, she looks up.

"You don't understand, it's not like that." Lapis remarks, a bit defensive in her tone. "I know everyone makes mistakes, but sometimes 'sorry' doesn't heal what's been done."

"Do you have anywhere to put that gem? I can keep it safe." Lapis finally says, relaxing a bit.
Sunstone     "..."

Sunstone is silent after Lapis' reply, looking down at the Gem. She stares at it for a while, considering whether she should trust Lapis with this. She has no attachment to the Gem herself, but she doesn't know if Lapis has anywhere to keep it, either. Eventually she shrugs and walks over toward Lapis, halting before her.

"Keep it safe," she says to Lapis, "Alright? Don't trust Peridot with it. She will mistreat it, I know her." She then waves with her left hand, and a hologram screen of orange sunlight appears, displaying some numbers and information in Gem language. "Here's a radio code so you can get in contact with me if you need to. Do you have one?"
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis watches Sunstone cautiously, but doesn't move from her spot. Sunstone will find that on her way to Lapis, the water under her boots will feel almost completely solid, letting her walk on top. Lapis herself is still ankle deep in the water, however, and little droplets of water seem to be suspended around her.

She's unsure how to feel when asked to keep it safe, it's not usually her imperative to capture these things. Has Peridot changed? It kind of seems like she has, and her promise.. She extends her hand and takes the bubble. Upon closing her hands around it, the red gem vanishes, the bubble with it, transported to the Gem warship. "Okay," Lapis replies solemnly. The sudden orange glow of the screen causes her to look up, "Radio code? Is that human technology?" That would be a no.
