Peridot     Like Jasper, since the Holo-room incident Peridot had largely stuck to herself and re-buried herself back into her more important work. She had made a concerted effort to be there for the large orange gem, but her brooding nature had made that difficult, so ultimately she decided to give her space.

An energy spike that resembled gem-tech too closely for her liking had registered on the scanner. And, though Jasper would have been the far-wiser choice to escort Peridot on this mission. She had decided to give her more time. To not burden with what she expected to be a routine science expedition. So the job of bodyguard had to fall to Lapis.

They were both nestled in the escape pod, which had been recommissioned as transport vessels for the duration of their stay on earth. Peridot had at least thought ahead, and had a secondary pod carrying water to follow them to give her bodyguard some ammo if she needed it. Other than that, Peridot had been mostly silent and business like with Lapis. Giving her just enough information that she needed. It seemed as though she were still sour about the whole Malachite thing.
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Since the incident with Jasper, Lapis had been keeping her distance from just about everything. Even Elvis robonoid was left alone among the sorties. There were no more video games. No additional training simulations. Lapis hadn't even /seen/ Jasper. She also seemed to avoid straying too far from the ship. Most of her time was therefore spent inside of her private room or in the Kindergarten. Space wasn't hard to come by on a warship occupied by only four gems.

So it came to her as some surprise with Peridot had asked her to come along for a trip. With placid resignment, she agreed. The trip itself couldn't be more uncomfortable, however. At the back of the pod sat Lapis, knees up to her chest, arms wrapped around them and head resting on said arms. She'd been silent the whole time, not a single word. The whole malachite thing soured the mood of everyone.

But there was an additional point. Peridot and Lapis had for all intents and purposes fused previously. Overwhelming and conflicting emotions spiraled within her over that, and maybe a bit of guilt.
Peridot     The trip was silent. Which didn't bother Peridot too much. She appreciated time to think, and be with her thoughts. But after an agonizingly long trip she finally broke the tense atmosphere. "We're here." She comment slowing the pod down to a crawl.

"If my calculations are correct, there should be a warp pad somewhere around here among the lavastone." She brought the pod down and pressed a button opening the cockpit up to the hot air. It was bearable, but it wasn't entirely comfortable. This mission was going to suck. "Let's find it... and repair it as soon as possible so we can see where it goes and then get out of here."

The hull then formed steps that lead down to the ground and Peridot instructed her little army of robonoids to go ahead of her. Then she followed them into the ground. "The water pod will follow us and keep its payload insulated from the heat. Though once you draw it out, it will quickly begin evaporating."
Guest Lapis Lazuli     When Peridot mentions that they're here, Lapis stands up slowly but keeps her eyes cast down. The rush of hot air from the pod opening piques her curiosity and she looks up to examine the lavafield. It's hot. Really hot. Unsure, she looks to Peridot for a moment before following her down the steps and onto the hot ground. Unlike Peridot, she's on her bare feet. Though it doesn't seem to bother her, it's just rather uncomfortable.

Glancing back, Lapis looks back to the water pod, acknowledging its presence in protecting the water from the heat. A precious payload. Softly Lapis says, "Lead the way." She'll bodyguard the best she can.
Peridot     Peridot created her holopad with her fingers and loaded a top down map of the area that she could check on. Lapis's somber mood seemed to not bother her; though she had already decided to do whatever she needed to do in order to keep their fragile little team together- It didn't mean she was willing to overlook Lapis's actions just yet.

After a stretch of search, Peridot held her other hand up and began moving rocks to the side with her tractor beam, grunting a little from the effort. "It's here." She commented aloud, as she revealed the pad from underneath rubble. It's gem-like surface was covered in black soot, and appeared cracked in multiple places. Once she had moved enough of the small boulders out of the way. She looked to her robonoids. "Get to work." She said harshly, pointing.

And so, another waiting game ensued. The robonoids began to crawl all over the damaged warp pad and eject their crystalline goo as they got to work doing their masters bidding. As she waited, Peridot looked to Lapis with a stern frown without saying a word.
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis watches as the warp pad is removed. She'd normally say something complimenting the accuracy of Peridot's navigation. Finding a warp pad so close to the travel pod had to have been a mark of skill and not just luck. As the robonoids get to work and Peridot looks back, she might catch a momentary look of admiration before her eyes dart away and she looks back to the ground.

It's as if she could feel the disappointment in Peridot's stare.

As the robonoids work to repair the pad, Lapis looks on to the lava and hot spews of steam coming from the cracks in the rock. She was already beginning to sweat from the intense heat of the area.
Peridot     The robonoids continued their work, until eventually the entire pad was covered. The goo glistened for a few moments before hardening into a crystalline sheen. Then it suddenly exploded into a vapor of dust and shards-- leaving behind the warp-pad. Shiny, new, fixed. With that bit of business out of the way, Peridot broke her gaze with Lapis and stepped up onto the pad.

"Well then. This one is fixed. If the one on the other end is undamaged we should theoretically be able to warp." Peridot had her backed turned as she surveyed her holopad. "Now get up here before I flip the switch." She instructed in a monotone voice.
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis looks up when Peridot begins instructing her. Somberly she approaches, stepping up onto the much cooler warp pad and coming up next to Peridot. Turning, she faces the same direction Peridot's facing and looks over at her.

The pod with the water in it opens and the water slithers out like a formless snake. Next to Lapis, a pair of boots form out of the water, and the snake slowly coalesces into building up some generic, faceless humanoid. Immediately, steam begins rolling off the surface of the water-mimic.

At the very least, though, bringing water with them like this should make things a little safer.
Peridot     "Activating warp." Peridot said tapping her holopad and the two are immediately engulfed into bright light, at the very least that indicated the warp was working on both ends. Good news! They are beamed up into distorted space, leaving behind their escape pod and the fiery hellscape that had previously been baking them. Sweat had began to bead up on Peridot's skin though she did not notice until the air suddenly became a little cooler.

When the pad deposits them into a new location. It's plunges them into pitch black, neither of them could see anything. Though the air was warm, and damp and the air seemingly breathable, if not immensely humid. Peridot holds up her arm and forms her blaster. She begins charging a ball of light there and illuminates the room they are in. They can see columns. Apparently they were in some manner of gem temple. However it appeared to be in ruins, and stranger still there was no sky above them. They appeared to be inside a pink tinted cavern of sorts.

More alarming was they were not alone. Eyeless beast had apparently made this temple their den. They looked to be large hairless tigers. But were their eyes should have been, there was nothing there save for a large mouth. Their tails were long, and split into nine lashes which writhed like snakes. Gems were embedded into their backs, or shoulders. And they seemed to slowly be become aware that intruders had just magicked right into their lair.

"Uhhh.." Peridot's eyes widened. "....We should probably go ba-" She had been in the process of trying to activate one of the warp pads when suddenly one of the cat monster'o'nine tails lashed out with his tangle of tails and grabbed Peridot by her thighs. Peridot is pulled off her feet, and is dragged off the pad.  "Auuugh!" She manages to shriek in alarm, as one of her hands fruitlessly tried to find purchase. "Help!"
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis maintains foot contact to the pad as the beam of light carries them up and away from their current location. The water mimic slowly begins to float up, but by the time they're at the destination, it comes back down a foot and lands gracefully. At first, Lapis is unsure of what's happening. It's completely dark.

As her eyes dart from corner to corner, all she sees is pitch darkness. Then Peridot's blaster illuminates the area is sickly green light. The details of the cavern captivate her for a moment before she spots the eyeless beast about the same time Peridot does.

"Peridot!" Lapis shouts, holding out her hand to grab her friend but just barely missing as the gem is dragged away. This won't do.

Immediately the watermimic leaps forward, its arms going ragdoll as they turn into finely detailed whips made of water. Lapis runs forward and grabs Peridot's hand, pulling against the monster, gritting her teeth in effort. At the same time, the water mimic whips the beast with one arm, while the other swings back and wraps around a boulder. With what must be tremendous strength, the mimic lifts the boulder and /hurls/ it at the eyeless beast.
Peridot     Peridot grabs Lapis's hand and the invisible tethers that connected her fingers to the flat palm of her mechanical hand is stretched to the limit, the distance between her palm and fingers growing. The beast pulling on her is strong. The panic on Peridots face is soon replaced by anger as she peers down at the cat monster that had her by the legs. "Let go of me! You wretched stink-beast!"
The boulder manages to crush the beast's main body, causing it to poof instantly in a cloud of pink smoke. This has the unfortunate side effect of causing Peridot's body to rubberband as all the potential energy that had been storing up is converted to kinetic energy. Her body snaps back to where Lapis had been holding her hands and the two gems are sent into a tangled tumble to the other side of the cave.

The cats move in to surround them now, more cautiously this time as they try to size up what these two were capable of. Peridot goes about trying to untangle herself from Lapis and holding her blaster arm up. "If I shoot this we won't be able to see!" She says, climbing to her feet and wildly pointing the blaster in every direction trying to keep as many of the cats illuminated as possible.
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis lets out a surprised yelp as Peridot's suddenly released and thrown atop of her. Luckily, this sends them a little closer to the warp pad. In the tumbling, Lapis had let go of Peridot's hand, but she makes to take it again and hopefully drag Peridot away towards the warp pad. "Then let's go!" She shouts hurriedly.

The watermimic runs with them, deforming into a semi-cylindrical wall of thin water, gleaming nearly white against the green glow of Peridot's blaster. It's hardened water, to the best of Lapis' capability given the limited resources she has. The shield gives them a way to push back to the warp pad. "Hurry!"
Peridot     "Yep!" Peridot agreed to the sentiment quick enough, running between the shield of water. It appeared to keep most of the monsters at bay, though one managed to squeek by the water and directly into their path. It growled at the two, lines of slobber and spit being ejected from its mouth. Peridot paused and raised her blaster to aim at the beast. "Remember where the pad is!" She yelled and seemingly was going to blast the creature out of their way because pausing.

"Scratch that. Smarter idea. Hang on!" She whipped her blaster away from the beast, pointing instead behind them. Doing a few quick calculations, she fired it plunging them all into pitch blackness once more. Though Lapis would suddenly feel Peridot launch into the air from the force of her own blaster, taking the blue gem with her in a violent tug on her arm.

They suddenly slammed into a hard metallic surface. The warp pad. "Go go go!" Peridot shouted, as they could feel the warm breath of one of the beast before the room was once more engulfed in light. Peridot had activated the pad, and the two were now safe back on the hellish landscape dotted with volcanos. Hellish, but did not have any monsters trying to eat them. "I think..we.. we made it."
Guest Lapis Lazuli     Lapis struggles to keep the beasts outside of the water shield. When one claws the exterior, it leaves scratches as though hitting a rock. But hardening one part of the shield causes the other parts to weaken, and one of the beasts manages to slip right under her shield. "Watch out!" She shouts.

As Peridot aims for the beast, then changes her mind and redirects, Lapis says, "What are you doing!?" Shoot it, already! But then she fires in the opposite direction and she feels that sharp tug on her arm. Crying out in surprise, she tumbles out on top of Peridot and onto the warp pad, just as the light begins to engulf them both. When the light settles and they're both back in the magma zone, Lapis is still on top of Peridot, shielding her with her body and hugging her tightly.

Looking up, Lapis pulls back from Peridot, "You did it.." Then she seems to notice that she's touching Peridot. Quickly she releases her, scrambling back and up to her feet with a dark blue blush on her face. "Sorry." The water mimic is gone, likely left in the cavern and now just a puddle.
Peridot     Peridot blinked realizing there was a lot of weight on her. In contrast with her armored arms, legs and even the strange metal like material that made up her fingers. Peridot's torso and shoulders were soft, no different than any other gems physical form. She likewise turned a deep shade of green. "Erm..."

She shifted as Lapis pulled herself off, and she also got herself to her feet and began to dust herself off. "Well... that would have gotten far more complex.. and difficult to manage had I been dragged further away from the warp pad." She cleared her throat. "Thank you."

"The three of us will return eventually and clear out those corrupted gems. It appeared to connect to a temple of some kind which may be of use to us... but for now, let's return to the ship." Well, things weren't back to normal yet, but at least Peridot was talking to her again.
