Guest Vivio     It's a starry night tonight, especially out here away from major cities and the light pollution that spills from them. Though there is still a little, coming from the large hovering stadium lights that light up this area of the landscape. An area which is soon going to see some fighting action in the form of a WMAT qualifier match.

One of the competitors, Vivio Takamachi, is already here and waiting! She's in her Adult Form already, complete with Barrier Jacket. She's giddy with anticipation as she waits for the match to begin, alternating tapping the tips of her boots on the ground with a grin on her face.

This is an important match! It'll decide whether she moves onto the main tournament or not... But even if Vivio doesn't make it, she's already had some awesome fights. And still has one more to look forward to. So she wouldn't regret a loss here!
Richard Stadler Richard Stadler stands off to the side of the the arena, pausing for a moment to listen to the crickets sing in the diming light of evening. "See, now, why didn't we have the last fight here?" He notes, hands on his rifle, as a hispanic Sergeant Major pulls and tugs at various points in his armor, double checking for any weakness in the straps, esspecially after the last match. Despite the advancements of his world in medical technology, parts of his body still felt... stiff, his skin a bit more paler than usual. His arms felt a bit weaker than he'd like... but not by much.

"Because these areana's fill up, boss." Estano says, giving him a thumbs up. "You know that. And you know you don't have to be here, getting your ass beat again? By a small girl?" He notes, motioning to the Barrier-Jacket'd woman waiting on the field. Stadler shakes his head. "I'm not one to give up that easily, in this case. At least we're on the same side, here, so no need to do the whole armed and aggressive extraction. Well."

He says, pulling the charging handle back on his rifle, observing the chamber, then releasing it. "Unless something goes wrong." With that, both of them exchange a nod, and he's turned around, walking toward the center of the arena. "Didn't get beat too badly in your last match?" He says, to Vivio, once he's within speaking range.
Guest Vivio     Vivio turns to face her opponent as he moves into position. She doesn't recall ever meeting Richard Stadler before. Though she does recognise the name! Especially after her first sparring match as an elite was with Yunomi! Should be interesting to see what her father is like.

At the question Vivio ehehes, rubbing the back of her neck, "Actually I was up against a battleship... She shot me up pretty good! Lost the match... And was sore for a while after!" She then grins, "It was an awesome fight though!" Anyway, Vivio says before shifting into a combat stance, "Good luck!"

A referee comes floating up to the two on a hovercar. She checks that the two combatants are ready before raising a flag, "Three! Two! One!"

    "RACE!"

    ...

"Erm, FIGHT!" She swings the flag down just as the car backs off to avoid getting caught in the first volley of attacks.
Richard Stadler Richard Stadler really should have gotten together with Yunomi before this. He could have asked for weaknesses... Or, well, Union files were avalible, too. That would be cheating, wouldn't it. "I assumed you'd lost the match. We're the... second tier here. Though, not suprising, it being a battleship. I lost to someone who knew something about guns I didn't." He says, shaking his head, right hand moving toward his thigh holster. "Just /embarassing/ is what that was. Old man that I am, that's where I'm headed for here, most likely."

He slowly pulls the pistol out of the holster, letting it rest at his side, tapping the barrel aganist his leg, as his finger moves onto the trigger. He doesn't look up to the Referee for the fight, instead keeping his eyes on the other combatant. "I suppose that makes me a bit of a masochist, but, well, that's-"

And then he looks up. "Race? Seriously? Where the hell did they get you from?" He says, his hand moving up smoothly to point the Hi-Power toward VIvio, and pulling the trigger three times. He's then dashing away, hunting for cover.
Guest Vivio     Vivio tilts her head a little bit as old man Stadler rattles on about his last match. Heh, but seriously. Vivio takes note of the man's weapons. She's actually not all too familiar with firearms, with mass based weapons outlawed on the world she's from. She's been exposed to them since becoming an elite, but still knows little. Thankfully her magic defenses should work just as well against them as they do magic attacks.

Vivio giggles quietly at the referee's mistake, but doesn't stand still for long as the match begins! She starts moving, the three bullets passing through the space where Vivio was just moments ago. She runs at a right angle to Rick, circling in an attempt to make aiming harder. She doesn't give him much chance though as she raises her hand, pointing in his directory. Magic gathers into an orb just beyond her finger tip. It then shoots forward towards Rick, the basic magic shot creating a small explosion on impact.
Richard Stadler Stadler does make an attempt to dodge as the ball of magic comes through the sky. It doesn't do a lot of damage, the explosion throwing him down on the ground under a hay bail not as worse for wear. He was more annoyed at how his first three shots missed the target so completely. He would have though that rambling on like that would have at least thrown her off balance!

"Nothing goes according to plan here." He says, popping out of the hay bale for a moment to spot her. He has to move as she runs, to keep from getting exposed on a flank, pistol still up and firing toward her, emptying the clip in an attempt to get her down on the ground, or behind cover.
Guest Vivio     The gunman's aim is a little better off this time. Or perhaps Vivio's evasion is just a bit off. Either way, several of the bullets fired reach their target, though none reach the young woman's skin just yet. Vivio stumbles a little from the sudden impacts, but only winces a little as her Barrier Jacket reduces the power of the bullets to that akin to a paintball.

It certainly seems like her opponent is a good shot, which is kind of expected considering his choice of weapons. So Vivio decides to try an alternate approach. Vivio skids to a halt, turning to face Rick directly. Is she leaving herself open to a shot? Perhaps only for a moment as she shifts her foot and suddenly vanishes with a huge burst of speed!

Vivio's Jet Step takes her right up to Rick behind his cover, where she launches a quick spin kick to the soldier's side.
Richard Stadler Richard Stadler will take whatever he can get (though he sincerely hoped she was trying her damnedest and his bullets were simply too well aimed). He give a bit of an evaluation of her combat state... armor was more advanced. An energy field? Now it came down to experimentation. If handgun bullets weren't getting through, he'd have to try something a bit stronger shortly. The clip falls out of the pistol, his hand moving to slide a fresh one in, quickly, and click the slide home to load a fresh round... but it's not fast enough to take advantage of her sudden stop.

Suddenly, she's right in front of him, as that kick moves to smack aganist the armor he was wearing at his side. Just a bit of padding, but it did well to cushion the blow, as he leans forward to /smack/ Vivio's forehead with the butt of the pistol itself. No time to get to his knife. "I prefer a bit of space!" He yells, trying to break contact and get some distance.
Guest Vivio     SMACK! Vivio stumbles back as the pistol strikes her in the head. She quickly shakes it off though and smirks, "Sorry-" She lunges forward to try and close the distance between the two, "I'm a striker at heart!"

Vivio launches a right and then a left to Stadler's gut, each strike accompanied by a small burst of magic to enhance the blows. But they're really just lead ups to the larger right hook that Vivio throws for Rick's head.
Richard Stadler Richard Stadler is brings his pistol up again as they gain some distance, but he can't get a bead on her before she closes and moves to sock him good, smacking aganist ballisitc fibers and ceramic plates protecting him, one by one by one. And then that hook that /smacks/ aganist his jam. "Goddamn it, you have a mean punch." He manages after a moment of seeing just a while flash. HIs hand was still working though, pistol trying to press it's barrel aganist /some/ sort of body to punch through... but that might be a disguise as his off hand attempts to jam the M9 bayonet from his combat webbing into Vivio's thigh.
Guest Vivio     That's it! Stay in close, keep him off balance, keep him from using those guns too effectively. The body armor is going to be a pain to get through, but it should wear down with each blow she lands. Still, Vivio has to watch out for the pistol as a shot at this range could really hurt!

No wait, his other hand! Vivio's eyes spot the bigger threat at the last moment. Not enough time to completely avoid, but with a quick change in motion she shifts her leg out of the way, bayonet cutting through her Barrier Jacket and just slicing a light cut into Vivio's skin beneath. Thankfully not as bad as a full on jab.

Vivio continues her new direction of movement to take advantage of Richard's near-miss, irridescent magic beginning to glow around her leg as she calls out, "Revolver-" Her leg comes around in a roundhouse kick, "Spike!" There's an explosion of light when Vivio makes contact, the kick much harder than her previous and strong enough to send Stadler flying quite some distance.
Richard Stadler Stadler had to expect attacks from a lot of different directions; so he could hold his own in a fight in Melee range. He was not, however, a martial artist, as Vivio could tell when that knife cut doesn't do a lot of damage, and his entire defense strategy to this next powerful kick that explodes aganist him is 'hope that the armor holds. He gives a exhale of air as the wind's knocked out of him, but... he's not on the ground at the moment, only being forces to slide back a few steps... and then... running away. Rather quickly, though the little pin he twirls around his index finger and the grenade hooked to Vivio's waist might be a give away on why. At least it's just exploding with the force of a lot of rubber balls!
Guest Vivio     Vivio notices the pin around Rick's finger, though she doesn't immediately recognise it. It's not until she feels something unusual hanging from her belt that she realises it's something bad. Quickly grabbing the grenade, Vivio throws it. Just in time too as the thing explodes and she's caught on the edge, arms raised to protect her face. The rubber balls bounce off Vivio's Barriet Jacket, probably leaving some bruises behind, but it could have been worse.

Lowering her arms again, Vivio quickly finds her opponent, still trying to gain distance apparently. She doesn't chase, instead sweeping her hand out to the side. The triangular spell circle appears on the ground beneath her, numerous orbs of irridescent light appearing in the air around her. Vivio calls, "Sonic Shooter Assault Shift!"

Vivio swings her hand towards Rick, the orbs bursting and firing off beams of light towards the soldier. They pepper Rick and the ground around him with multiple explosions.
Richard Stadler Rick would have expected the grenade to be thrown away, of course (it seems that they were trading jab after jab, here). Hopefully, it would have left her distracted, smarting from rubber balls knocking about aganist armor. It wasn't a fragmentation grenade, but lord, she could expect it to /sting/. And he thought, yes, this would give him some time, some breathing room to gain some distance. And it does! She doesn't close... but she does cast another one of those damned spells, this one seeming like a cluster munition. Scary, to be sure, but Rick had seen similar before, and he moved to the best thing he could think of; cover behind a rusted, derlict tractor.

He grimaced as the explosions went off around him, hands gripping this rifle. "Something has to give here." He mutters, examining it briefly, before peeking out of cover. 5.56mm wasn't the strongest round that was carried, but, compared to the pistol shots and knife slashes that he had been engaged in, the several bursts he fires toward Vivio in the open would be... potent.
Guest Vivio     Vivio admits that Rick has some pretty good moves, managing to avoid her barrage with barely a hit. Vivio hadn't expected someone who seemed fairly ordinary to put up such a impressive fight. Clearly she will have to reconsider her approach againt such people.

For now, Vivio notices Stadler aiming his bigger weapon. She manages to get a Round Shield up, the circular barrier appearing just beyond her palm. The rounds pepper the defensive shield as Vivio strains to hold back the assault... And finally something does give. Vivio's shield shatters, the spell fading away as sparkles of light. The bullet that finally broke through strikes Vivio in the shoulder, digging in hard and causing the girl to stumble and drop to a knee. She winces and moves a hand to hold her shoulder... She's been shot at before, but she's never been shot before!

As Vivio endures the pain, she realises that the fight may just have turned in Stadler's favour... But she's not going to give up so easily! Steeling herself with stubborn determination, Vivio jumps to her feet and starts to rush Stadler's position. Her eyes are locked on her opponent and his rifle as she attempts to weave through his rifle bursts. As she closes the distance, magic begins to crackle around her right hand, which she forms into a fist and begins, "Accel..."

Vivio finally skids to a halt, though she's coming short of reaching Rick. There's still the broken tractor between them and Vivio is still to far to reach her opponent. But she swings anyway, crying out as her fist connects with the very tractor Rick is hiding behind, "SMASH!" The massive blow turns the tractor itself into a large projectile, the machine launching off the ground, possibly catching Stadler and then dragging him to smash against the side of a hill several dozen meters away!
Richard Stadler Thinks were close, so far, very close. He'd been exchanging one blow for another , and he though, /thought/ he might have the upper hand when he brought out rifle fire. So far, he'd take the few explosions and kicks she could direct at him rather well, and if he could at least keep her suppressed and taking the odd round... her defenses couldn't last forever. The problem being, of course, that he didn't exactly know what the extent of her defenses were. The theroy does play out well as a round finally slams through that shield, and, as she sees her stumble back, he's up, ready to advance and press his advantage... before he notices she's running toward him.

The weaving around the shots may allow her to avoid some, but he was hoping it didn't let her avoid all of them. He pulls the trigger until the clip runs dry, adjusting his attack as she runs forward. His hand switches to another weapon, and he has just enough time to blast her point blank with the buckshot from an M29 shotgun, before that attack /slam/'s aganist what cover he had. And it did a very good job of throwing him, dragging him, and /slamming/ him into the hillock just a bit down.

He's spitting out dirt, now, standing up, but still intact... mostly. Bruises and a cut on his head streaming blood non-withstanding. He could only hope Vivio had taken some damage before her fist slammed into the thing, and prepare for the next attack.
Guest Vivio     Like Nove always says, Vivio's eyes are her greatest strength. In this case, they allowed her to track Rick's aim and let her move in time to avoid his fire. At least, his rifle fire. Doing the same against a shotgun blast is a little trickier. However, Vivio spots the change in weapon and has just enough time to raise a weaker Protection spell. The barrier hemisphere can take only the one blow before it too shatters, but Vivio only needed it to hold for one as her Accel Smash knocks Stadler and his tractor-cover into the nearby hill.

Taking a moment to recover, and let her opponent do the same, Vivio takes in a deep breath. This fight isn't over just yet!

Vivio looks out across at Rick as he stands from the impact. It's obvious she's going to have to close the distance to him again. And it's obvious he's going to do his best to stop her. So it's obvious she will have to give him something else to focus on.

Another triangular spell circle appears on the ground beneath Vivio, yet more orbs of her multi-coloured magic appearing in the air around her. Much like with the previous time, she starts with, "Sonic Shooter..." But unlike before the orbs dart up into the air with trails of light. They rise up high, rather than go on a direct course for Rick. At the same time, Vivio begins to run towards the soldier, finishing with, "Phantom Shift!"

The high-flying orbs burst into dozens of beams which arc over and begin to rain down not just on Rick's location, but a large area around him with explosions. They also stagger their strikes over time, hopefully keeping Rick distracted while Vivio makes her dash towards him, a magic orb already gathering in her palm.
Richard Stadler RIchard is a little crest fallen when he sees that his shots toward her as she had advanced didn't do much of anything; he begrudingly had to admire the fact that she had put up a one time shield just when she needed it, and no more. A good tactic that had protected her, let her attack... and left him vunerable for another attack. And it seems that she was doing her very best to adapt to his tactics. She needed to get close again, giving him time to attack her... unless she distracted him. She did show a rather appreciable grasp of standard combined arms tactics. If you needed to close in on someone, keep their heads down. And the best way to do that is to blanket the area with artillery, like she was doing now.

As the orbs come down, Rick swears something uncouth under his breath, and dives for the floor benath him, rolling under the wreakage of the tractor where it met the dirt. He still took a number of hits to his armor under cover, feeling it singe and burn the fabric, but it allowed him breathing time to reach into a holster at his back, and pull out a revolver. She was getting closer, and he needed to act quickly

Taking a breath, he roles out of cover, cocking the hammer of the Webley rechambered for Magnum rounds, and then comes up in a crotch. The round was aimed right at her chest, the objective here not to penetrate, but to stop her like she was hit with a sledgehammer of a round.
Guest Vivio     Yes! Vivio sees her opponent roll under the tractor. The bombardment worked even better than she had hoped, placing Rick in a vulmerable position for her coming attack. She's just about there, swinging her hand around to release the orb in front of her, growing in size considerably. She begins, "Divine-"

    BANG!

The large round is dead on as Vivio hadn't expected her opponent to leave his cover so quickly. The air is knocked from Vivio's lungs as the bullet strikes her chest, the force spread out by her Barrier Jacket to protect her. Combined with the pain, it forces Vivio to drop to the ground. Vivio groans quietly, trying to recover some semblence of normal breathing after the hit. She doesn't want to give Rick a chance to follow up with another attack, especially when she has her own ready to go.

Forcing her body to respond, Vivio pushes herself up on to one knee before the large orb humming with energy. It's enough to launch it as she brings her arm back, finally finishing as she swings, "Buster!" Her fist connects with the irridescent orb, a circular spell circle flashing into existance around it. The orb bursts into a massive blast of light, directed by the spell circle to fan out like a shotgun blast over Stadler's position.

he ground is ripped to pieces and disintegrated by the unleashed energy, the remains of the tractor blasts to pieces so small that you wouldn't be able to tell what it used to be. And if Rick didn't take advantage of the brief pause caused by his Magnum shot, he too will feel the impact of the energy blast. It's a good thing Vivio's magic is non-lethal!
Richard Stadler Stadler looks up from the smoking barrel of the magnum. as he managed to hit her square in the chest. In mid /word/ even, as she dropped to the ground. It went aganist his nature to... Well. Let's face it. If the enemy was on the ground and going to attack you, you didn't give them a chance to get up. And although there's a split second of hesitation there, given that she is an ally... he still cocks the hammer again, ready to send a round into her cranium... or close enough to it. Sadly (from a certain point of view), Vivio is up before he fires, as he notices that fist slam into the orb itself... and that just detonates in a wave of light.

"Well, shi-"

The word doesn't get out as the blast of energy rips through what's left of the tractor, the hill, and... well, quite a bit else. When the blast is over, Rick is laying on the ground, about 20 meters away, groaning slightly, as his head raises to view Vivio.

"This is... serious." He grunts, and reaches down to his equipment again, before pulling out, by far, the most damaging weapon an infantryman had in they're possession:

A radio.

"Support, X-Ray 6 Actual. I don't want to impose on the spectating you've been doing, but I think it's time we take the kid gloves off. Fire mission, danger close, no rounds to range." He says, crawling away, trying to call up a map of the arena from memory. "Gridsquare 5434, 20 meters from my position, fire for effect."

And it seems that Estano wasn't just there to check Rick's equipment. He's already got the mortar set up. It wasn't a large weapon, and the shells that come down weren't artillery... but it was a sight larger than anything he was carrying. Vivio has about one to two rounds exploding to the left, or right, before they get more accurate. And when they do...

Mortars /weren't/ non-lethal.
Guest Vivio     Vivio is still down on one knee after her attack, recovering from Rick's previous. She begins to look a little confused as Rick talks into his radio. She doesn't recognise or understand the talk, so isn't sure what to expect... Until the first mortar round lands nearby. She shields herself from the rush of dust and debris, only for another to strike to her other side. It doesn't take a child genious to realise what's coming next...

Sure enough, Vivio is engulfed in the explosive blast of the third mortar, hidden from view as smoke and debris fills the air.

It takes several seconds for the dust to clear, but as it does a glow can start to be seen from the center of the crater. Soon enough, Vivio can be seen standing at the center of her spell circle. Her Barrier Jacket is shredded at several points, scorched off on others. Her stance looks wobbly, like she's having trouble standing. But even though she's in pain and tired from the battle, her face is still one of determination.

"S-sonic Shooter..." Yet more orbs of irridescent light are floating in the air around her and with a wave of her hand, they launch forth, "Phantom Shift..." The orbs trailed in light don't take a direct path, but instead arc around in multiple directions before converging on their single target, Rick.
Richard Stadler At least, obfuscation of meaning using technical speak pays off... at least in terms of keeping Vivio distracted until the rounds start coming down. If getting caught in the open was bad when he was shooting at her, it was worse when mortars start striking the ground. And he can't help but look on in a bit of triupmh (exhausted, tired triupmh.. and then his face falls, just a bit, as she sees her get up out of the crater from the bracket of them. He did some damage, certainly... but not enough. "I really... admire the fact you're still standing." He says. "Should have expected it-" He starts, before running forward and sliding aganist the ground at the arc of fire, pressing his tired body aganist the ground and low in an attempt to avoid some of the converging orbs... that still do hit him, painful, his breathing labored. This needed to end, quickly. She was on the ropes, and so was he. The rifle comes up again, the fire selector switches to fully automatic, and he attempts to unload the clip in her general direction, hoping to overwhelm what was left of her barrier jacket and put her down.
Guest Vivio     Vivio smiles a little tiredly at Rick's words, "Thanks... You're tougher than I expected too!" She sees Stadler raising his rifle in her direction again. And once more she creates a Round Shield for defense. As the automatic rounds begin to slam against the circular shield, cracks begin to show in it. Each shot wears away at both the barrier and Vivio's mental stamina. In what may turn out to be a repeat of earlier, Vivio's shield doesn't look like it will hold for long...

... But then it doesn't need to as Vivio has something up her shredded sleeve. With one hand held up to maintain the Round Shield, the other comes up and with a flick of her wrist Vivio calls, "Phantom Smash!"

A pair of orbs fired in the previous bombardment had gone wide during the confusion of the attack. On Vivio's command, they come back around and streak in to hopefully catch Rick off guard and explode against his back.
Richard Stadler Richard Stadlerhas his trembling hands holding down the trigger, firing the clip itself, and... seeing them bounce off that sheild of hers, or go wide. Well, he was more impressed, but, really, how many more clips of ammunition did he have to use to finish this? As the rifle clicked empty, he tried to get up, slowly, moving to his knee, as she pulls another bit of magic. And he didn't exactly know where she was casting, this time... before he realized that the attack didn't nessecarily have to come from her.

He hears the orbs streaking in toward his back, and, just a second or so short of impact, he's on the ground again, forcing muscles burning and pained to respond as he rolls out of the way from the explosion, still damaged, but still up. And he's got that revolve in his hand again. The one with five shots left.

"I'm sorry, but it's been a long night, and I am /hurting/." He mentions, before firing another round at her. And another, and another, trying to come to his feet. Some would miss (it was getting harder to aim), but hopefully /one/ of them would hit with the same force as his last one did.
Guest Vivio     Uh oh. Vivio is in trouble. She'd hoped that the Phantom Smash would have been enough to knock Rick through a loop, even if it didn't finish him off. But he came out of it so well that's he back on the offensive moments later and Vivio doesn't really have much left.

    BANG! BANG!

    The first two shots miss.

    BANG! BANG!

The next two are better aimed, striking Vivio's Round Shield hard and shattering the magic defense into wisps of light.

    BANG!

The fifth and last shot strikes Vivio in the shoulder, sending her spinning around as she falls to the ground. As she hits the ground, Vivio's mind and body decide it's a good time for a little nap~

The referee floats up to the two on her hovercar, studying Vivio for a moment before announcing, "Match winner: Richard Stadler!"
Richard Stadler Stadler slowly lowers the weapon, after the trigger pulls and the hammer clicks on an empty chamber. He's more concerned about pulling the trigger than seeing what the result was. And... Oh. Well. That was that. "Oh, thank God." He says, slowly moving over to Vivio's grounded body, and moving to kneel down, swallowing and trying to keep control of the pain he was feeling... goddamn everywhere. He grabs her arm, and wraps it around his should, another going between her armpit, and slowly drags her to the other end of the arena, where the medics are waiting. "Getting all sorts of suprises. Was not expecting that shield to be so effective. I was going to have to just /throw/ my gun at you next. Come on... goddamn it, are you out cold? Great." He grumbles. Well, at least he won. He could spend a bit of time dragging a passed out body back to the medics as recompense.
