Peridot     They were back for more it seems. However this time certainly lacked the danger the previous two trips represented. All the beast were bubbled.. save for the one Peridot had personally killed. Still the green gem took no risk, and had Jasper and Ferham as her escort this go around. After all, last time she came here she lost an arm and Lapis got poofed.

She holds her torch up high. A brightly glowing bubble that hovered over a short pipe. She stepped off the warp pad into the cold damp cavern floor, eager to be out of the heat caused by the voclanian plains. She illuminated the old murals depicting the pre-war era of gem society. Before the rebels ruined everything.

She glanced over her shoulder at Jasper. "...Friends of yours?" She asked, nodding her head towards the painted gems on the wall.
Jasper      Jasper scrutinizes the wall. Unfortunately, she's not one for art. Well, any art that doesn't involve the so-called art of pugilism. She doesn't recognise them. At least, she doesn't recognise them in any sense to be helpful. She might've crushed a thousand Gems just like that. "No," Jasper answers, finally.

She stalks along, following Peridot's steps. She idly grips a stalactite that is in her way and shoves it aside, sending rocks and dust into the air. "What're we even doing here?" Jasper asks, a frown on her face. "The monster's dead. We saved Lapis. What else is there that's possibly of any use to our mission?" She's not one for the simple joy of exploring, it seems.
Peridot     "Careful." Peridot hisses. "This is why I brought Lapis instead of you to begin with." She jabs her finger at the stalactite. "We're in an ancient gem ruin. It's littered with murals and artifacts depicting when this planet was controlled by gems." Peridot rubbed her temples and continued forward, scanning the walls with green light and documenting the imagery.

"We still don't know the purpose of this structure... not to mention the archaeological data. The rebellion caused a massive amount of this stuff to go undocumented. If Homeworld is out there, and if we find out. They'll have to re-write the holo archives with what we bring back..."

    "So, no. breaking. things."
Jasper      Jasper lets out a breath. It's not a pleasant sound, it sounds like 'hrrrgh.' "Yeah, and how well did that work out for you?" Before Peridot can respond, Jasper answers for her: "Not very well."

Jasper's face takes on a very unimpressed expression as Peridot details the ancient and historical nature of the ruin. Would it hurt Jasper to show some kind of curiosity about any of this? It might. As Peridot's green light takes in the data, Jasper's golden eyes are keeping watch for anything that shouldn't belong.

"I won't break anything that doesn't start something with me first," Jasper replies. "Besides, I don't think this archaelogical dig as important as you think it is." Ouch, Jasper. "Dealing with the enemies of Homeworld is more important."
Peridot     Peridot grimaces for a moment. "It wasn't a complete failure." She looks to the side away from the wall. "I was questioning her loyalty to our cause. Now I do not." She states somewhat matter of fact. "She threw herself to the jaws of that beast, and saw me safely removed from danger."

"Therefore it was a minor set back that lead to valuable intel." She concluded prudently.

At the topic of the enemies of homeworld Peridot rubbed her chin. "We are low on resources. Between the ships somewhat limited functionality as a war vessel, these ancient structures may yet yield something we can use-- against our enemies, or to bolster our defenses. Even our old junk is better than what most humans tarry about these clustered trash heaps of concrete and glass." She started up the ramp, nearing the site where the battle took place with the mother cat.
Jasper      "You trusted her to throw herself into the jaws of that thing? Stupid. What if she hadn't?!" Jasper snaps, shaking her head, her white mane falling every which way. She shoves it back behind her shoulders with one hand.

She can't argue with Peridot's points as they move up the ramp. As they reach the top, Jasper says, voice a sarcastic drawl, "Well, what do you know, Peridot? More rocks. Don't you have robonoids for this? I'm a warrior, not a glorified retrieval unit."
Peridot     "I didn't have much a choice." Peridot answered looking at her arm. It was a slightly different shade of green than her regular arm. That bothered her a lot. Her un damaged was older, had been through so much more. The right arm, fresh and clean. But different. "We had everything under control.. until we didn't." She says dryly.

She paused at the sight where the cat beast... the gem had met its end under Peridot's boot. She found she could easily slip into the anger she had felt back then, when she crushed it. Her eyes narrowed, and her fist curled into tight balls. That flash of anger she felt towards the dead gem poisoned her, and she looked to Jasper with a icy glare.

"Do you think I'm doing what I was made for? Being on the ground like this? Working with inferior beings like the confederate humans? Having to sometimes pretend to be nice to some of them? Having to keep your battle lust satiated so you don't break more of my things?"

"None of us are doing what we were made to do. We're all out of our comfort zone. Adapt." She said firmly and walked on ahead even further up the ramp, where the light was growing brighter.
Jasper      Maybe Jasper's so familiar with anger that she can feel it when Peridot glares at her. She smiles but it's not reassuring in the least. It's a small of recognition. Her voice drops and it's almost gentle, like a predatory crooning. Lapis has heard it before.

"Then don't be nice," Jasper says, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. "Who cares what they think, they're inferior to us. We'll use them and we'll crush them once we're done with them. It's that simple. Come on," she says, as she follows Peridot towards that light, "You know I'm right."

If Lapis is the angel of Peridot's better nature, then it's absolutely clear who the devil is.
Peridot     "I don't know." She continues on, less distracted by the trove of artifacts and relics of times gone by. "You are right. But the game has changed. We can't do it the way we used to do it anymore. I shouldn't even be ranting about gem superirority on open frequencies." She rubs her temples. "It's stupid, and I'm not..."

"I don't have the means to be the conqueror. Not with one warship, Lapis or even you. It's not enough firepower. Not for a planet this well equipped. I need to be the diplomat in order to bring us the power we need. But, diplomacy was not something they taught me save for the kind of diplomacy one can achieve with a giant war machine at my beck and call. I want.."

She wanted Yellow Diamond to tell her what to do next. But she stopped herself, she had to. In the short time she Jasper, she knew the orange gem would sniff out that kind of weakness, and perhaps take action. "I want kindergarten up and running. No more distractions, no more babysitting. I want our ship mobile again and I want it cleaned out of all its debris."
Jasper      "Good," Jasper says to Peridot as she mentions what she wants. "Then we're of the same mind. That is, until we have some contact with Yellow Diamond again. I'll give you a report of what we have in our armory." She looms over Peridot, and glares into the depths of the cavern, saying nothing more for the moment.
Peridot     "I've been doing scans and I have located what appears to be another viable power source somewhere out in--" She paused as she stepped up into the sunlight at the peak of the ramp way. Her visor tinted to a dark green automatically to allow her a more easy adjustment to the intense bright light.

She paused because she recognized the structure in front of them. A tall tower a top the temple, with large circular columns leading up to a dully glowing apex that pointed to the sky. Peridot smiled softly and looks over her shoulder at Jasper. "It's a tower... a communications tower." She turned back and surveyed it with a growing grin. "Ha... haha!" She ran forward, touching one of the foundation columns with her glowy floaty fingers. "The gem warship has a narrow beam, but this-- this we can really scan the skies with. It's broad wave length. Full spectrum!"

"It's broken, it's old but we can fix it." She rears back and gives the column a good solid kick resulting in a clanging sound that seemed to not damage the tower or Peridot's foot. "You thought you could hide from us, didn't you?" She pointed up at the apex.
Jasper      Jasper understands that. In space, where targets are so easily identified, a narrow beam that's not so indiscriminate makes sense. Ever the soldier, Jasper remembers her priorities. "Don't be so quick to celebrate," Jasper snaps, "Walk the perimeter, check the structure! We need to make sure it hasn't been sabotaged, like the galaxy warp." Sure, it was just a sticker, but it's the thought that counts.

And so, that's what Jasper does. The large orange Gem walks around the base of the temple, scrutinizing it with a fierce glare. She might not have Peridot's mind, but she would probably know when something's out of place. Maybe.
Peridot     It seems those corrupted gems didn't only serve to antagonize the Homeworld gems.  Their collective fierceness had protected this site from intrusion, be it human or otherwise. Other than overgrown plants, dirt, moss and mildew- there was no sign of tampering. The site appears to be untouched, and has been that way for quite some time.

But Peridot does calm down, readopting her business like demeanor. "I'll have to fly a pod out here to utilize the tractor beam. But I can fix it. It's just fallen to disrepair."

"I will return here tomorrow with the required materials to affect a repair. Now that I know what's here and what we can do with it, I can prepare a message to beam out. Maybe it will yield results."

"Finally, a stroke of luck." She said turning, and heading back down towards the warp pad.
