Sakura Haruno     Flowers is waiting by the time Kyra would show up, dressed in actual scrubs for once. The office door is just barely cracked, out of respect to everyone else, and a cadavar is in place on the table. The cadavar will not be gone into in detail, but is decidedly a donated body, intended for just this sort of situation.

There're scalpels and the other proper tools, and textbooks that are mostly made of large and detailed charts in place. Another set of scrubs is also waiting, just in case Kyra did not bring her own clothing that is okay to be ruined. Sakura aims to please, at least in this one regard.
Kyra Hyral     It doesn't take too long for Kyra Hyral to show up. She's been really looking forward to this because cadaver dissections are something only late-year trade school students get to do. It is /not/ part of the normal Alexander Academy cirriculum, not even for the specialized necromancer classes.

She zooms in, stops, quietly closes the door behind her, and zips over to the table. A long moment is being spent stared at the dead body since this is the first time Kyra's seen one set up like this. She steps back away and takes the scrubs, putting them on. It isn't because she doesn't have clothing she can ruin...it's because scrubs make her look and feel /super official/. It's an image thing.

"Okay. I am ready. So...uh. How do these things usually start?"
Sakura Haruno     Of course, Sakura would not want anything to do with necromancy. She'd have quite a violent reaction at the mere suggestion. They're not going to be reviving the corpse - it's going to be staying quite in place. Maybe in a few more pieces.

"Well. I thought I'd start with teaching why we do this. You could get the experience with the anatomy involved with a hologram, but that's not all there is to things. If you go down this road far enough, and you end up in a desperate situation, the day will come where you need to cut into someone to save their life. As much as anything else, this is the beginning of learning how to do that without flinching."

She'll gesture at the scalpel. "We're going to be taking it slow, but this particular patient died of liver failure. You're going to be examining the internal organs. I would suggest starting here, with a cut..." She'll make a motion, towards the chest, but Sakura isn't touching the knives and she'll keep back a step or two.
Kyra Hyral     Unless there was a wild magic accident, there would be no necromancy tonight. For the best-let's not revive a dissected corpse.

Silent, Kyra listens to Sakura explaining why use an actual corpse instead of a simulation: "That makes perfect sense. I have never had the, uh, pleasure of conducting actual surgery on someone. That isn't taught until second or third year in trade school." She looks to the scalpel and picks it up.

Starting at the top of the sternum, she makes a long incision down the length of the body to...about two inches above the groin, which she doesn't spend all that time looking at. Judging by the expression on her face, it looks like she finds dead guy genitals kind of gross.
Sakura Haruno     Flowers will lecture, at some length, as Kyra works. "Now, there's a few things you have to do during any sort of autopsy or other procedure like this. First, if they were living, the protective measure you would need to take to ensure cleanliness are obviously much higher. Second, you should know how much you need to protect yourself. If you suspect they died of a horribly contagious disease, then you'd need to be much more careful than someone who drank recklessly, for example."

She'll lean over, once the opening is complete. "Okay. This patient appears, at a simple glance, to have had a largely healthy heart and lungs, given..." And on and on. She'll direct Kyra towards each in turn.
Kyra Hyral     A few more incisions later, Kyra has carefully created flaps of skin and muscle that can be rolled back to display the various organs. She listens in as Sakura points them out and describes the various signs of health (or non-health in the case of the liver) of the patients organs. Occasionally, Kyra does ask a question or two about them.

Eventually she metions, "So do the organs get left in or removed during a dissection? How do you get past the ribs?"
Sakura Haruno     "We can pull them out, but it's better to look first. If you'll look to your right, you'll find the appropriate saw for removing the ribs." Sakura says. "You can actually do sub-dissections of most of the organs. We'll be preserving some for later, but looking at the liver tonight, while it's in the best shape it can be."

Removing the ribs takes a little physical effort, but Sakura's busily pulling out containers and a rather foul-smelling preserving liquid for Kyra to start placing the other organs in.
Kyra Hyral     "Removing rib-oh, right, a bone saw. I always thought those were for heads." Kyra remarks as she sets aside the scalpel and picks up the saw. Cutting away the ribs so they can get at the heart and lungs takes a lot of time from Kyra, who doesn't have the best of muscles to put behind the tiring activity. But eventually she does cut away enough for them to examine some of the other organ systems.

"Formaldehyde?" she asks as she catches a wiff of those chemicals. She does recognize the smell of formaldehyde due to encountering monsters that were partially made from the chemical previously.
Sakura Haruno     "It's possible. I'm not actually used to these sorts of tools; I use chakra scalpels for most of this sort of work, and if I'm that desperate to use knives, it's not ones quite like this most of the time. I got these specifically for teaching you." Sakura admits, with the slightest shrug.

"It is, yes. Standard issue for the Union." She'll state, now assisting by holding it in just the right place to help out with getting the organs in place. "Once you're ready, you're going to gently cut into the liver, looking to identify the preexisting damage..." She'll state, droning on.

Whenever Kyra does that, she's going to get a nasty surprise if she's not watching out specifically for traps - a puft of a yellowish, sulfer-smelling gas.
Kyra Hyral     "Oh. Well cool. We're both learning a lot today then, aren't we?" Carefully, Kyra extracts the ribs one at a time, placing them in a then-empty basin to collect them. She spends af ew moments examining the footage, especailly where she had stood. Sh epicks up the phone and pauses.

She hears nothing. After five minutes of this, she gives back up and starts to get into the cadaver's liver. Though lucky earlier, that luck is gone now as she cuts in to the liver. "Ugh....ugh, that smell." she says, covering her nose with her hand.
Sakura Haruno     "Pretty much!" Sakura says, with a smile. She'll watch patiently, and Kyra will probably pick up on how the older medic is neither surprised nor bothered when the liver is cut into. "Ah, and now we get to the other lesson of today! Sorry to crowd them in, but time's been pressing, and I just couldn't resist."

"Poisons!" Sakura declares, far too cheerfully. "The first time my mentor gave me this sort of lesson I was out of commission for a week, but I think you can do better." Also, Sakura had used something far milder, which even untreated would be no worse than a stomach flu. Tsunade hadn't been nearly so kind. Sakura's watching Kyra for a reaction, though.

Mostly so she doesn't get decked. Sakura had tried to punch Tsunade at this point. It hadn't gone well, but her mentor had appreciated the spirit.
Kyra Hyral     For the first time does Kyra hear Sakura veer into the /cheerful/, which is odd since she's so far used to Flower's very serious attitude. Serious, but somehwat gentle, in Kyra's limited experience. But she likes this attitude. She likes the exciment from the medical ninja.

"So you had to eat poisons and survive? Fair enough, I've done the same to my own poisons so I know they work." she puts aside her tools and looks at Sakura. "So what am I eating today?"
Sakura Haruno     "You just breathed it in when you cut into the liver." Sakura says, with a smile. "I, of course, took the antidote already. I'm not going to tell you precisely what it was. Instead, it's what we might call homework." She'll move over to the shelf, pulling out a very thick leather bound book. "From in here, you should be able to figure out just what it was that I used, and the optimal treatment. You can cheat if you need to, but it's better if you figure out the exact answer."

And then she'll hand over a letter that was sitting on the desk. "And this is in case you run into any trouble in school if you're not okay by morning."

    The letter reads, in full:

To Whom It May Concern:

Please medically excuse Kyra Hyral from classes she may need to miss this week owing to illness. I attest here that I have poisoned her.

xxxCaptain Sakura Haruno.

Thoughtful of her, really. She's smiling reassuringly.
Kyra Hyral     "Pffff what??" Kyra double takes, "I /did/? Moments go? Man, I knew I should have gotten a face mask. The thought just hit me after you opened up those other preservatives. Just give me a clue or two though...how long before I start seeing symptoms? I'm not going to throw up in the middle of this dissection will I?" she puts down the tools to read the letter.

"Also what do you consider cheating?" She's worried that Sakura means 'Scan' but at the same time, well, she can understand why she might. Kyra reads the letter and her eyes light up. "Oh /sweet/, I get excused from school too! Nice!"

She pauses, "...just don't tell Saber. I think she freaks out about poison. She definitely did the other day."
Sakura Haruno     "Oh, probably about an hour. Throwing up in the middle of this.. probably not if you're reasonably quick about it." Sakura admits, with a bit of uncertainty. "Depends on your stomach's strength, really. Cheating in this case would be using methods other than your symptoms and the remedies prescribed in the text." Which would, of course, include scan.

"Anyway, if you need to use that letter, go ahead, but even if you completely fail it won't kill you or anything. If you have a critical mission, I can get you back on your feet within about half an hour." Sakura says.

Her formal schooling ended at twelve, though, and she'd been by ninja standards a bookworm anyway. She may not quite understand wanting out of class.
Kyra Hyral     "I'll grab a bucket just in case. If we're going to open up the skull that might take me a while with the bone saw." Kyra notes, breaking away from the dissection since she's not holding any tools at the moment to retrieve a basin. "My stomach is pretty solid though. I have had some poisons and illnesses before though I don't think it's given me 'poison resistance' like Soan said. We have thieves and ninja with actual skill in that."
Taking advantage of getting out of class is something Kyra would do...unfortunately, it would be for multiversal exploration and missions...which she can't really do while poisoned. This doesn't quite occur to her as she thinks about her 'get out of class' plans quite yet.

Kyra resumes the dissection, "So what did this guy really die of? Was the poison injected afterwards?"
Sakura Haruno     "Oh. Most ninja where I'm from aren't especially resilient against poisons. That's why I needed to know how to treat them." She'll state, making a hmming noise. "But things seem to be much more.. classified, where you're from. I rember when I picked up the ability to.." She'll shake herself out of it, looking back up and smiling.

"Oh, no, he really did die of liver failure induced from drinking too much for a long time and not seeking treatment. I trapped the body before I called you over. It wasn't precisely injection, but that's close enough." And she'll continue to guide, through the remainder of the dissection...
