Yunomi Stadler             THE CITY OF RAVNICA -- IZZET LEAGUE DISTRICT -- THE SPIRE OF NIVIX

KA-BOOM! The local area is rocked with the sound of an explosion, a minor shockwave causing the local plaza below the IZZET GUILD GATE to quake. A few rocks rain from the sky, dust falling and settling -- but here in the Izzet it /is/ Business as Usual. All manner of people walk below the gates, from goblins wearing long sock-like hats and red and blue robes. Near-humans with crystal blue skin, and above the walk, guarding the gates themselves are the Weirds. Two massive creatures outsides made of woven steam and boiling water, their cores burning brightly, the lava inside replenishing itself. Their bronze-colored armor glimmered in the late afternoon sun.

There is music coming from nearby, some street minstrels earning coin by being entertaining to the late-lunch/early dinner crowd, coming upon the latest thrilling development: guildless food 'trucks', pulled by walking rocks, by strange animals and beasts of burden, and even one or two hoisted about by steam-kettle engines.

The weather is a little warm for the season, definately sweatshirt weather back on Earth.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason had finally got all of her class work under control and it only involved one boss fight with Mr. Greene. She didn't even end up in the dentention zone either for her antics. SO here she was starting to explore. Nivex had been a long time ally of the union itself and she was curious to go see what sort of magitech the guild could produce, she was also cureious about the long time Union elite, Yunomi as well, so here Lyria was and not looking too out of place, though maybe a bit under dressed by local standard. The music was catchy to the point she pulled the eatbuds from her new Mphone out of her ears to listen.
Theo Morrison Explosions must mean he's in the right district.

Theo walks through the plaza with his coat zipped up and his exceptionally fancy Izzet Signet -- the newer one, produced after Rhapsody had straightened out where she sat in the Guild -- worn prominently. It's not like he actually needs to show off his membership to most of the Izzet anyway; he's well-known enough around here that, even if he doesn't show up to hang out all the time, he sees a lot of friendly faces on the way through.

"Heads up!" Theo calls. He whistles, and Kickotron leaps into the air, the myr springing from the ground to intercept a couple of the rocks headed for bystanders who forgot their helmets. The myr doesn't seem terribly bothered by the inconvenience of facetanking some falling objects, landing neatly on its feet and trotting back over to Theo.

Just another day in Ravnica. It's enough to bring a smile to his face.
Chica Mendez     Amidst the many and varied beings that make their home in this strange city, Chica Mendez actually feels really normal for once. She doesn't fit in very well, admittedly; she's decided to go for a less dark and frightening getup than she might have in the past. Synthetic leathers done in the old Salish Indian style, complete with beads and feathers. Of course, she clearly wasn't Salish, but she suspects most people here won't particularly care. A pair of dark sunglasses gives her an AR overlay of a slowly-building map of what she'd seen thus far.

What was she doing there? Well, trying to expand her businesses, of course. A place like this clearly had a huge magical market, and from what she'd heard there were more than a few types of people who'd hire some out-of-town work to make people stop doing things. "Just need to find out where," she mutters under her breath in Spanish.

As it was the Aztlanner elf was walking in the plaza when it suddenly shook, and for a few tense moments Chica's gone back into shadowrunner mode and ducked for cover, pulling out her Super Warhawk heavy pistol out from her belt. Everyone's nonchalant reaction makes a hot blush crawl up on her face until she stuffs the weapon away and joins the crowd of people near the minstrels, scowling.
Maxine Sandberg Now that the holiday rush was over with, Maxine has a bit more free time on her hands. She was always curious about technology from other worlds. Of course Nivix is rather different from what she's used to. She doesn't seem to be too phased by her surroundings though, she's been in the Multiverse for a while after all.

At least until the loud explosion fills the air. The way Maxine ducks for cover is a clear giveaway she's not a native. Of course where she's from an explosion is a sign of something bad happening. The other woman drawing the gun certainly doesn't make Maxine feel any less relaxed. She's not going to move from her position until she's certain that everything is safe.
Yunomi Stadler     And that's when the flying hippopotamous makes an appearance, bellowing as he "gracefully" soars fifteen feet over the heads of the weirds. Its slightly purplish skin turning almost magenta in the red light from the gate, and then deep, royal blue in the blue of the gate. It has a leash connected to it, along with an ofersized, jerry-rigged harness. Its little ears and beady eyes flap and roll around as he comes barreling towards the plaza, wings outstretched and flapping, soaring over Lyria's head and side-swiping Chica's entrance to the plaza, causing the minstrals to give a momentary scatter and reprieve from their music, circling in an arc over Maxine and finally coming to a skiddling, rolling stop near Theo!

And that's when a familiar face might appear. Hair blown backwards, bangs tangled and her face covered in what might be soot or oil, save for where her goggles would have covered her face. Her rounded ears, perched dog-like at the top of her head and brown-and-sienna tail flicking as she makes a three-point landing on the ground near Theo and Kickotron. She wears brilliant scarlets and azure, her shoulderguard in the form of the parun of the guild, her leather harness and leggings accented with burts of bright copper and bronze.

She glances around, pursing her lips as she comes to a stand.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason was not alone either a small brown abd black dog, those from earth might consider a terrier was bounding after Lyria barking and checking various things out. He even chamed a vendor out of a bit of meat as well. He bounds after Lyria ow keeping direcly out of her way but contining to follow after her. She paused at the explosion and almost seems curious about it.

"humm looks like someone's at work."

She's pretty sure now she's in the right place, she starts to move a bit more not wnating to get caught up in any issues. The small dog dodges out of the way as if it's used to this sort of thing happening.

Then comes the flying Hippopotamous that comes over head. She blinks for a moment, pauses more staring.

"By the serpents coils, what is that?"

Lyria does take note of the woman on the back.

"Ahoy there! That's ... quite the creature you have..."

Also wait did she see Kickotron lurking about here? If she did that would mean Theo's about too.
Chica Mendez     When she first hears the hippo's call, Chica's first impulse is to roll her eyes and rub her cheek. This place was going to be the death of her. She looks over to find out what the commotion is--and just manages to duck under the creature's pass, scattering musicians and onlookers both. The fact that it's an /actual flying hippo/ doesn't do anything to ease the ridiculousness of the situation. Under her breath, she whispers an Aztlanner curse that would've made most people on her world blush.

She's uninjured, so that's the important part. Her attention goes to the girl who'd just arrived and the person she was speaking to; the tail and ears were curious. A Changeling, maybe? Who was the guy she was standing in front of? Clearly they weren't unfamiliar. "This could be good..." She starts slowly, then grins as she opens up her Astral Perception. There's a great many things that react to her Sight, but she's focused mainly on people interacting with the girl and her pet.

What she sees is... surprising. The little girl with the ears was a powerful paracritter, she knew it. An intelligent paracritter, at that, one that'd apparently tamed another one. That was new. The man and his companion get a look, and she leans closely with a raised brow as she got a good look at him and his companion. The magical levels that him and his summoned being were putting out were impressive as hell. A grin comes to her face as she even sees someone in the crowd with the familiar missing Essence caused by cyberware.

This opportunity is way to good to give up. Even if they didn't look like the type to pay for shadowrunners, they /did/ look like the type who might contract for some foci. Smoothly, Chica moves towards the plaza, bringing up a nice warm smile that lights up her pretty tanned face. "Pretty impressive entrance, hermana," she says to Yunomi encouragingly. Theo gets a slightly bigger smile as she looks him up and down. "And you're not much of a slouch either. I don't suppose I could ask you two for some help? I'm new here. Looking for a place to set up magical shop."
Maxine Sandberg "It appears to be a flying hippopotamus?" Maxine pretty sure that defines most laws of physics but those don't seem to apply here. "I have to admit that's new for me as well." Maxine gets back up as things appear to be clear. Its rider is more familiar to her and she smiles as she sees Yunomi. "Good afternoon, Yunomi. Is everything alright?" She's not sure if she's the one who caused the explosion yet.

Her attention turns toward the elf who was waving the gun around earlier as she approaches. "If you're looking for assistance here, Yunomi certainly isn't a bad person to ask. I'm not around from here either.
Theo Morrison "Oh man, you have a /Pheldagriff/?"

Yeah, Theo isn't really so much super surprised as he is thrilled. Kickotron looks up at the creature silently, as the short birdlike robot always does.

"I feel like you could do better for a flying mount, but not for one that has that kind of 'wow' factor," Theo continues. He hooks his thumbs in his pockets, grinning up at Yunomi. "So what exploded this time?" There's a brief second when he spots something different about her outfit, like the fact that she looks more official and less... well-intentioned science hero living life on the edge, maybe. "And did you get promoted?"

Chica gets his attention. Theo's expression shifts a bit towards a frown. "Sorry, do I know you...?" Something about what she's wearing twigs his memory. He has a recollection of a museum heist on a particularly shady Earth, and seeing some heavily-armed types in a similar style of clothes. "Oh. Uh... I guess it depends on what kind of magic. We could point you in the right direction, at least?"
Yunomi Stadler     "Gracias, desconocida." Yunomi replies with a smile, looking up to Chica as she rubs the back of her head. She looks like she might be in college, but she's short. A hair over five feet if that, but athletic looking, with red and blue bangs and dark colored hair the rest of the way through. She doesn't appear to be armed, but that doesn't mean anything here. She smiles at Theo. "This" she says, snatching the harness for the five hundred pound avian hippo, "is Alfred. I freed him a while back, with help from Captain America and C... Chuck, when he was around." She gives a sad sort of smile, but fondly rubs between the hippo's ears. He waggles them happily. "He's pretty much quadrupled in size since then. And you're right, there's a lot of 'wow' factor in a roaring, flying hippo coming at you." she agrees with Theo, favoring him with a smile. Maxine gets a wave and Lyria a nod of recognition, and then back to Theo. "There was a minor explosion in one of the labs as we were getting a run in. Albert spooked. I've been keeping him in the more... calm parts of the spire because a frightened five hundred pound baby hippo /will/ ruin another magewright's day... and..." she gives a little smile. "I really can't go any higher in the guild, apparently, since 'Guild Champion' is pretty up there as far as Thianel's concerned." She replies, and then she turns to regard Chica.

"Well Met and welcome to Ravnica, in paticular the Izzet League. As far as opening up shops here go..." she gives an embarrassed smile, and rubs the back of her head. "How good are you at paperwork?"

Albert peers around curiously, snuffing at something on the ground.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason is looking at the hippo, she doesn't even know what a Terra Hippo is, so she's really confused about this thing to ber perfectly honest. She however seems to be accepting it.

"Well tht was indeed an entrance."

Chica gets looked over by the Levitania woman seems to accepot what she has to say. Her dog however bounds towrds Yunomi barking a few times and clearly wanting some attention from her.

"Don't mind alfie, he's just addicted to attention. Well my dog that is, so this is Ravnica? Impressive and I thought I was in the right spot when the explosion happened. Paper work s a horrible nessary evil needed for the world to function sadly. Also ahoy to the rest of you as well!"
Chica Mendez     Another person coming to join the conversation. Lyria gets a small nod and a smile that doesn't translate well to her eyes. She considers opening herself to the Astral again, but decides doing it near these two might not be the best idea. "Afternoon."

Maxine's voice is familiar, however. Turning, the elf's smile turns a little bit colder and sharper. Whaddya know, there's a wageslave here. "I thought so too. You're the lady in the corporation, the one offering deals. It's good to see you face to face." Her tone is still oddly happy despite the chill on her face.

Chica is also familiar with what it looks like when someone gets suspicious. The elf smiles charmingly. "I don't think I've ever seen you. Have you spent any time in Seattle? I think I might've noticed you." And, hilariously, she's actually telling the truth.

The Aztlanner's smile gets big and happy. Someone else knows Spanish. "Stranger, eh? Not bad, but instead..." She offers a delicate hand. "Call me Chica. Or Mendez. Your name is Yunomi, right? It's a pleasure to meet you." It really is, too. Chica's become boundlessly curious. It's dampened by the mention of paperwork. "Ahh, well. That depends on what things are necessary, isn't it?"
Yunomi Stadler     Yunomi blinks as the dog bounds towards her. Then she leans over slightly, gloves ruffling through fur. "Awww! It's okay. Who's a good dog?" she coos at him. Albert becomes jealous, and bumps Yunomi with his snout. Yunomi leans back, and scritches his head too. "Awww, who's a good phelddagrif?"
Maxine Sandberg Well, at least Yunomi's taller than Maxine. The redheaded scientist wasn't certainly known for her height. "Yes, a rampaging hippo certainly would be dangerous, especially one that can fly." She's aware that hippos kill a fair amout of people each year.

Her attention turns towards the familiar voice remembering the disagreement they got into. "I was just trying to help Laura further her education." She's not sure why Chica is making a huge deal about this.
Theo Morrison "Hi, Alfred. This is Kickotron. He's my loyal minion." Theo says, by way of introduction.

Kickotron stares silently. This is not unusual.

"You're just more official-looking than usual, I guess," he says with a shrug. Theo casts a glance at the other members of their little gathering, and then focuses on Chica. "Actually, I grew up in Seattle," Theo says with an easy smile. He goes from mildly suspicious to friendly and charming as a mirror in a span of seconds. His poker face is /amazing/.

He also doesn't mention /which/ Seattle.

He sticks out a hand at Chica anyway. "Theo Morrison, Heaven or Hell. Can't really help you with paperwork, but if you've got something mysterious going bump in the night, that's kind of my department these days."
Yunomi Stadler     "Trying on a new look. You never know. With the Mana Nexus project..." she pauses, and she gives a sidelong glance to Chica, but gives a smile. "I know a bit of Spanish. I grew up in an army barracks. You learn smatterings of a lot of things." she replies. "Yunomi Stadler, Izzet League." she holds out her hand after Theo does. She's giving an open smile, but any making sense of the emotions swirling beneath the smile is pretty much in vain. She also reaches up and 'scritches' Kickotron for good measure. "Who's a good mechanation? You are!" she jokes, and then reaches up as if to pet Theo as well, but gives a laugh.

"Unfortunately, being a project manager I have a lot of paperwork of my own to go through, but you'd be better off trying the guildless areas. The Izzet are a little jealous... but you had better stay away from the Undercity, the Banking district, the senate's area... ah..." she considers. "You might try the Simic, they're pretty cool, and the Grove if you don't mind dryads knocking on your door every few hours."
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason does notice that bit wit Chica's expression she seems to be sizing her up but she smiles back and that one seems honest.

"Afternoon to you as well."

Alfie barks a little bit at her as he gets ome attention. He barks as he's called a good job and seems to know it for a fact. He does however not press it when the hippo comes over. Thelittle dog is sizing the thing up, seems to think ya I could totally take him then trots back to Lyria and setles down now.

"Mana Nexus project? I haven't heard od that one and oh yes Lyria Mason. You should hear my mother about paper work. She rather be fighting off pirate raid on one of our ships than do paper work."
Chica Mendez     Shrugging, the elf seems to be willing to let the chilly conversation with Maxine slide. "Sure," she says easily, neutrally. It was the wageslave life. No need to press it.

As far as Chica's concerned, this man is sniffing right for her, and she refuses to give an inch. "Oh, really? Well, it's nice to meet you, Theo." She says sweetly, giving him a big happy smile. "What district? I'm in Bellvue, 42nd and Hathaway." She shakes the hand firmly when it's offered. "That's just fine, I'm sure I'll find my own way. I'll keep you in mind in case things get spooky around my place."

The Mana Nexus project, huh? This gets better and better the more she listens. "Yunomi Stadler. It's good to meet you." Paperwork really isn't her type of thing, clearly, but the places that Yunomi is mentioning is giving her better ideas of what places to go for biz.

Guildless meant an angry left-out population somewhere. Undercity meant the dark place where danger lurked and money could be found. Probably the same for the banking district, maybe. She's got no idea what the Simic are, but the Grove doesn't sound too bad to visit. TO meet a dryad... Hm. "It's all a lot to take in, isn't it?" The elf chuckles. "Thank you for explaining. With your help, I'm sure I'll be able to move in well here."

Lyria doesn't seem too bothered, at least. The Aztlanner gives a small smile and a nod, then tilts her head curiously at the dog. It's been awhile since she's seen one of those. "Is it a real dog?" she asks curiously. In her mind, she can feel her nahualli, her Wolf, stir curiously, then snort in derision.
Maxine Sandberg Maxine's thankful the woman's willing to drop the subject. "Yes, this is certainly different from what I'm used to as well. I would be rather in the lab then doing paperwork myself. Being the head of the R&D division of Fundroids, I certainly have my fair share of it." She certainly knows the feeling. "I've been to Seattle a few times myself on business." Of course the Seattle on Maxine's world is rather different from the one they're referring to.
Theo Morrison "Mostly in and around the city proper," Theo says. He's a picture of friendliness, and so is Chica. If it weren't for the fact that they shifted there from sorta-suspicious, sorta-ingratiating postures, passer-by's would assume they were getting along fine. "Sure. Look us up sometime; we've got a pretty big Multiversal footprint and take a lot of cases."

Which is to say, 'we have long ears and sharp eyes.'

"It's a great city," Theo says to Maxine with a nod. "Go for fun sometime instead of just for business, you won't regret it."

Then, to Yunomi. Theo nods a bit. "I kind of liked your... rebel-with-a-cause look," he says with a smile. Of course, that could have been entirely because at the time of their meeting, there were flaming insects and a lot of wind involved. He smirks at the almost-petting, though Kickotron doesn't respond, as per usual. "The Simic are alright. Like the Izzet but with more kaiju and less explosions."
Yunomi Stadler     "Ah, well... it was a pretty good look to start out with." Yunomi states, rubbing the back of her head. "And I mean, I basically just shapeshift the armor to what I want it to look like. It just so happened that I had some official business to attend to..."
Earlier: Yunomi had her hands on her head, yelling at the top of her lungs "HOW DO WE TURN THE FIRE ALARMS OFF?" with a dimunitive goblin squeaking "I HIT IT WITH A HAMMER, HOW HARD?"

Back to the present: She eases into a relaxed stance, her ears flicking about the plaza. She gives a grin to Theo at his smirk, and gives an agreement: "Yeah. Heaven or Hell has a surprising amount of people to throw around; when I was a kid, I wanted to work for them. Guess things just shaped out differently, huh?" she gives a grin, and replies "Eh, when I'm in the old country, I stick to the East Coast. I grew up in Maryland, developed a taste for crab cakes. I'm arguably one of the most sucsessful non-native Ravnicans working in the guilds." she gives a laugh... and when Theo brings up the Simic again, her hackles raise slightly. Her ears pin back, and she reaches down agiain to scritch at the dog's ears.

Yunomi coldly states: "They're not kaiju." to Theo. She doesn't look at him, but her hand grips a little harder on Albert's leash.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason says "Yes he is, he's a ships dog from where I'm from. They hunt rats and other pests, quite smart too."

Alfie bounds over to Chica happily, he's in a good mood though prehaps he also senses something about her or is just being basically a terrier. He barks a bit and bounces about on his hind legs at Chica, he seems to like her.

"Humm crab cakes, nice to see other worlds know what they are. I'm just a ship captains daughter really, though I'm really into machiney and maniplating the elements."

She pauses for a moment. "Whats a Kaiju?"
Chica Mendez     What even was this hardcase after, anyway? She doesn't allow a flicker of it to show on her face, of course, but she's annoyed. So far she hasn't even really done anything fantastic out in the Multiverse yet. Well... Aside from those couple times, but those weren't important, anyway. Nobody had anything to connect her to La Llorona, and she knew it. "That's pretty impressive. The Multiverse is a pretty crazy place from what I've seen on the trids." So... what. Some kind of supernatural police?

Talking about Seattle makes her open up a bit more to the others. "He's right. Try to avoid the stormy months if you don't like that sort of thing. Also, you might want to stick to Bellvue and Seattle City. I've heard pretty bad things about Redmond." Well, at least, that's how it is in her world. Might as well give these folks the chance she never had, to avoid the shithole.

Yunomi seems to be confirming that these Heaven or Hell people were a strong force for whatever they were doing. Inwardly, the elf rolls her eyes. Hopefully if she played her cards right, everyone would just think she was hiding her illegal talismonger business and let it drop. "Never been to the east coast. Just Mexico and Seattle." Making sure to switch out 'Aztlan'. Might as well make this a little difficult. "Well, maybe I can convince you to visit sometime, Yunomi. Like you've probably guessed, I'm a mage, and I haven't seen a person like you before. I was hoping I could talk to you personally at some point. Mage to mage."

She also notes Yunomi's response to calling them 'kaiju'. Touchy. Were they seriously making monsters here?... Doesn't matter, more biz. The little terrier gets a wry smile as she pats her hand against it's head. "Yeah, yeah. Hi to you, too."
Theo Morrison "West coast best coast," Theo says, in a turn of phrase his player never thought he'd put to text.

"Psyber gave me a job around the holidays the year before last. Well, I say 'gave,' but it was pretty standard job-hunting things for what it is, so..." He kind of trails off. Yunomi's mood is really easy to read, even without her saying a word.

"Sorry," Theo says awkwardly. "I, uh... yeah." Wow, talk about a social land mine.
Maxine Sandberg "I'm from Maine myself, so I'm used to the rain." Maxine isn't really bothered by it. "It's better than when it's hot out or snowing, "Redmond's not too bad where I'm from." Working in the tech industry Maxine's been there a few times. "Yes, the Multiverse can be rather unusual it's best not to get offended by it too much." She's pretty level-headed most of the time.

"What type of machinery?" Lyria's comment made her curious of what the other woman knew about the subject. She can't really talk much about magic after all.
Yunomi Stadler     The ears and tal kind of give it away. Yunomi relaxes her deathgrip on the leash. Beneath her gloves, her burnt hands ache and relax as bloodflow prickles its way through. She takes a deep breath, and then shakes her head. "It's okay, Theo. We're cool." she states, and then she draws up. "A kaiju is a big, bad monster, it comes from my native language meaning 'walking mountain', to kinda get a feel for the scale we're talking. I used to volunteer with a group that fought them. Theo helped. One of the best and most bizzare fights I've ever seen... all those goats." Yunomi lets that thought trail off a moment, and shrugs her shoulders, and gives a smile over to Chica.

"No one's ever met anyone like me. I'm pretty singular. Not many like me... thank goodness. We'd probably all meet up and rip reality apart." she offers a little grin, "But I'm here most days, just ask the weirds to alert me that I have a visitor, and I'll either send a drone down for you or meet you. Depending on how busy I am." Yunomi explains.

She turns, "Machinery and manipulation are sort of our bread and butter. You might want to ask the Guildmaster to arrange a tour if you wanna see some really bizzare items!" she gives a toothy grin.

Her ears don't come up though, and her tail kinda hangs limp behind her.

Albert is apparently fascinated with Alfie, and waddles his way over to the dog and chica, snuffing at the terrier.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason says "Robotics, eletronics, I'm testing a combat armored exoskeleton these days, I got the support drone AI working fairly well for it's alternative mode now. He's also good at dealing with monsters on it's own. Oh? That would be pretty crazy if it somehow did. I admit I had intrest in learning more about the guild, Yunomi. It seems to be working along the lines of things I'm trying to do."
Chica Mendez     Jeez, now they fight kaiju? Outside, Chica is giving a respectably concerned look, but inside she's actually feeling a little bit better. When you have to compete for space against giant city-destroying monsters, usually the monsters win out. Were these Heaven or Hell guys /really/ going to look into a little espionage? She doubts it. Her posture puts out the confidence that she's feeling.

No others like Yunomi at all... Chica can believe that. And she's been given the means to study Yunomi a little closer. For once, she's got a genuine smile on that touches her eyes. "Understood. I'm grateful that you're willing to speak to me."

The topic turning to technology is where Chica starts to tune out. Gadgets and gizmos weren't her deal, anyway. Instead, she opens up her Sight to study the hippo as it comes close, cautiously putting out her hand to touch it. Trying to understand how this thing existed.
Maxine Sandberg Maxine nods at that, "I have a suit of power armor myself myself but it doesn't get much use. I try to avoid combat." She's not really the fighting type after all. "A tour could certainly be interesting if it's not too much trouble." She wouldn't mind seeing more.
Yunomi Stadler     Yunomi, perhaps feeling guilty for the cold she's shown Theo, offers him a wan, apologetic smile, running her hands over her bangs to brush them back a moment, and then lower her goggles. "Well... I'd best be scooting along... I apologize for the short talk. But hey, if anyone needs me..." she pulls out a trio of cards. Jokingly they have molted brown backs with red and blue fronts, with Y. STADLER in bronze metallic ink, along with her frequency. "Gimmie a ring." she states, and giving a light pull to the harness, both Yunomi and Albert take off, Albert flapping his impossibly too-small-for-his-bulk wings.
