Nasrin     When last we saw the crew of Serenity, they had stumbled upon the hidden fortress of Alamut, blended into the mountains, and home of one of their part-time members, Nasrin. As the Assassin lead the crew up the winding paths to the side door, she explained to them the simple life they lead at home, and generally have simple, hearty foods.

WHen she opens the door, it leads directly into the side hall, where rows of long tables and benches were set up. There are others, some wearing white hoods, others wearing black, with fancier ornaments. Many were transitioning to other places -- few stayed here at Alamut, and the crew of Serenity was a colorful bunch in the middle of the sea of glowering and suspicious faces.

There were wooden bowls filled with fresh fruit -- kiwi, strawberries and blueberries, bright colored oranges and even dark red apples. There were large pots of steaming breakfast cereals, and it was there that Nasrin was walking when she was accosted by a younger girl, who threw herself at her!
Malcolm Reynolds It's a rare thing for the crew of the beloved smuggling ship to have a chance to stay, well anywhere. Let alone someplace with the simple, homely feel of the Alamut fortress. At the head of the group is Mal, and next to him is the bounding, bouncing figure of the ship's mechanic, Kaylee, giddy with the idea of fresh fruit and home-cooked food. Shortly behind them is the ship's redheaded pilot, and next to him, the dark-skinned figure of Zoe, and the hulking figure of Jayne.

"It's all so...Oh my!" starts Kaylee, as Nasrin throws open the doors to the side halls. She flashes a wide, grateful smile at her favorite Assasin, then darts towards a bowl of strawberries.

"Dark corners. Dark hoods. Everyone hiding, hiding from everyone.." pans the voice of River, who seems to have snuck into the group as well. She looks around with that unique mixture of blankness and intrigue, eyeing the darkly-clad figures in the hall.
Nasrin     "Nasrin!" the younger girl, who was wearing simple cl othes with fancy embroidery on it, and she pauses, and gives a look at the outsiders -- and then bashfully hides behind Nasrin, who seems nonpulsed.

"You're not wrong, River." Nasrin replies, and plays hostess by scooping up hot ladles of what looked llike oatmeal, but was flavored with exotic items -- it smelled sweet, and cinnamon-y, and she begins to hand it out to the gathering from the other world.
"Here we /are/ hidden. Relatively speaking. There are some who would see us come to an end... but that won't happen today. These men," she gives a small gesture, looking to Mal, "are my brothers. And this..." she introduces the girl hiding behind her, "Is Leila. Who is not ordinarily shy." she expresses in a voice of concern.

"That is the man with the... the space-ship?" the girl inquires, dark eyes peering at Mal. She gives a small waggle of her fingers.
Malcolm Reynolds River may have heard Nasrin, but looks for all the world as though she didn't. The girl continues to simply peer off mysteriously into one of the corners of the hall, absentmindedly accepting a bowl of the oatmeal that's passed her way by Zoe, taking the bowl deftly without so much as looking down.

"The very finest one in the 'Verse!" replies the ship's captain, in the affirmative. Friendly cerulean eyes peer back to the younger girl, before accepting his own bowl of the oatmeal. "They teach you all to cook an' to fight?" he asks, as though interested. The captain flashes a pointed look to Jayne, as though to remark on the matter, but the larger man is already attempting to drink his oatmeal from the bowl as one might a bowl of soup.

"Spppppgrnn ngng lppp!" comes Jayne's retort.
Nasrin     "... he's the d--" Leila was about to say 'dumb one' regarding Jayne, but instead, smiles sweetly, grabs up a kiwi, and makes her way off to the side, tossing the fruit to one of the two other children here.

Nasrin watches them, a little concern in her eyes, but she glances back to Mal.

"We take turns with the chores; sometimes we cook, sometimes we clean, we all study, we all eat, we all use the training areas... why should we not also feed? Is that not what a family does?" she teases him, and to her own bowl she adds some blueberries and plain yogurt, swirling it together as she goes to sit down at a nearby table. Some of the others, though, seem far, far less friendly than Nasrin.

One man, a little portly but strong looking, with a scraggly beard makes his way over to Nasrin, and leans over to talk to her in a quiet voice.
Malcolm Reynolds Jayne continues to simply and happily slurp away at his bowl of oatmeal; apparently, Shepherd is a good cook, but can only do so much with the ship's stores, presumably meant for keeping a longer period of time.

"Ah, well if we let Wash or Jayne near the kitchen, I reckon we'd all be eating a deal less," replies Mal, to Nasrin's explanation. The captain's otherwise sunny demeanor seems to shift a bit as the man comes over to speak to the Assasin, and he eyes him a moment.

Meanwhile, Wash and Zoe have gone to the end of one of the long tables and found a seat there by themselves. Shortly, Kaylee comes over to join, a plate covered in fresh fruit, and a wide smile still on her features. "I haven't seen this much fruit since....well, I don't think I've -ever- since this much fresh fruit!" she says.
Nasrin     Nasrin can't blame Jayne, really. The first thing she did after leaving Serenity was find someplace to get real food. Protein bars get old. Fast. Wash and Zoe get a little private time, and she's seen that River get food, but it was the man who came over and started trying to scold her that stole her attention from her companions. She shifts her head away from him, and turns to look at him. "They're my guests." she states, firmly, "And no." she adds quietly. The bearded man gives an angry look, his eyes focusing on Mal and he gives him a leer, then glances over at River, gives a snort and then goes to return to his seat.

Nasrin turns back to her meal, before glancing up at Kaylee and Mal. "I will see what I can do about sending you with some dried dates and figs," she adds, "they're very sweet, but can be a little chewy."
Malcolm Reynolds Mal is busy giving this man the Look, but gives a slight nod to Nasrin's words, replying with: "I'm sure those would be much appreciated.. Bit of a rare thing, seeing fruit and the like."

As the man wanders off, Mal looks back to Nasrin once more, turning to give his full attention to the young woman. "Sure we're not imposing on you and the rest of the...family?" he asks. "Could be a day or three until we've got the next system to go to," he says, calmly.

Kaylee, ever the ray of positivity, flashes Nasrin a grateful, strawberry-laden smile at the mention of fruit to-go. "Thanks Nas!" she calls over.
Nasrin     "If Abbas wants to challenge me because the women do not have their hair covered, I will fight him and he will lose. It is simple as that." Nasrin replies quietly to Mal, but she's serious. "All the same..." she glances back over to the man, who is grumbling with a few other cronies. "... it may be best for you to sleep in Serenity, and not come to the door without me." she replies quietly. "They are my brothers..." she states, and very quietly leans in to Mal, and whispers: "... but they can also be asses."
Malcolm Reynolds There's a crooked eyebrow in return from the ship's captain, and the ghost of a smile at the first part of Nasrin's statement. It doesn't look like he doubts her, though. "Perhaps that's best," Mal agrees, with an affirmative nod. "Still, do appreciate you putting us up in here for a few meals. Does us a kindess."

Zoe seems to catch on, leaning in the direction of the two conversing figures, and shoots Jayne a dark look, the man busying himself now with stuffing as many strawberries into his mouth as is humanly possible. "Be courteous, Jayne.." she snaps, in an undertone.
Nasrin     "YEs, well, do not expect me to take turns in the kitchen. I wouldn't know what to do with your..." she waggles a spoon "protein bars and that nonsense. It might be the basics of survival, but there is more to life than just survivng." she states, and she glances up at Jayne.

    She raises an eyebrow.

ANd she shakes her head "Luckily, they are in season." she replies, "... and I'm sure Jayne is remembering to chew and appreciate them."
Malcolm Reynolds This solicits a chuckle from the ship's captain. "Appreciate, surely," he returns. "Chew, not as much, it seems.." he adds.

Jayne, as oblivious as ever, just continues wolfing down the fruit like there's no tomorrow. He continues eating, on the move, and makes his way to the table-end whereupon Zoe, Wash, River, and Kaylee have occupied seats. Zoe reaches deftly to pluck a few loose strawberries from Jayne's supply and pops them into her mouth, satisfied.

"Hey, you and me both," returns the captain, now replying to the first bit of Nasrin's words. "Wouldn't be able to make up half of what Shepherd cooks up with that protein and preserves," he says. "Makes it almost taste bearable, half th' time."
Nasrin     "Mm." Nasrin replies as Jayne continues to chow down on the strawberries. "Do you think he realizes that many fresh strawberries aren't going to be as fun coming out as they were going in?" the assassin inquires, giving a look to Mal, stirring her own meal and shaking her head as she eats up.

"I'll send along some other items to make it more bearable." she replies with a small smile, glancing up at Mal with a wry little smile.

"... you ... would not think I would miss life with you." she adds quietly, "... it was different."
Malcolm Reynolds "Certainly not," comes the captain's quick reply, as he watches Jayne. An evident twinkle of amusement is in his eyes as he continues to watch. He takes a modest spoonful of the warm oatmeal, relaxing a moment.

A sidelong look to the Assasin comes before a gentle, roguish smile. "I'm sure it's different here as well," he replies, with a sidelong nod in the direction of the hall's other guests. "S'been different, getting by without you. Might've been a bit easier, past few months, but we're still flyin'," he says. "Jayne ain't exactly as handy with those dinner knives of yours."
Nasrin     "Well... there's unrest." Nasrin admits quietly, and she stirs her meal, and then closes her eyes a moment, and gives a wry little smile. "I don't imagine he would be. Well, he could be if he could focus more, but... he's good at what he does. I can think of no better person to supply the 'large caliber fast heavy artillery'." she compliments Jayne, and then looks over the crowd. "... but I feel that perhaps a vacation from Alamut would be good for my nerves... if you think there's room."
Malcolm Reynolds The Captain shrugs, at first. "I could think of -plenty- better people," he replies, with only a hint that he's not being entirely serious. A belated chuckle expands the hint to an obvious point of jest, or perhaps he's just considering a certain memory or two of the big man.

Another sidelong look over towards Nasrin, away from the crowd, follows the latter part of her words. "S'always a room for you on Serenity," the captain says, in the plain sort of fashion that he favors. "S'home to you, just as it has been for a while. Reckon that hasn't changed in the past year, and don't reckon it will in the coming years, either," he asserts.
Nasrin     Nasrin gives a smile, and gives a nod. "For that, Captain, I am thankful." she replies quietly, and gives an amused sound. "Because, as it turns out, when I am not actively investigating things in Urbania, I have an awful lot of downtime that I could use for using dinner knives in new and interesting locales." she gives a wry smile to the Captain.

    "Also, I missed the company."
Malcolm Reynolds "Can promise plenty of interesting locales, at least," the captain replies, with a rakish sort of grin. "The company, not so much.." he adds, with a pointed look over at Jayne, who is currently in the midst of having his last few strawberries pilfered by Zoe whilst Wash looks on with amusement.

"Would be glad t' have you back for a stint," he says. "Not keen on rushing t' leave here, but should be sooner rather than later, we hope."
Nasrin     "No rush. I have to pack a few things. Let them know where I'll be going, who I'll be going with. Leila, Imal and Zain will have to get to their lessons under a different teacher... Malik, perhaps..." she considers a moment. And purses her lips.
"It'll be nice to be onboard again, though. Perhaps this time I should be more socialble."
Malcolm Reynolds A final sort of nod, to this. "It'll be nice to have you back on board," Mal replies, sincerely. "The Amabassador tends to flit in and out; River oft ends up on her lonesome nowadays. She'll be glad to have you back, surely," he says.

The captain looks back over the others, still enjoying the restfulness of a non-moving dining rooms, and the homegrown food in the Assasin's hall. For once, things seem to be going according to plan.
