Nero      IT IS TIME

FOR THE END OF THE ADVENTURE

     ...Or something like that.

Last year, Marisa Kirisame got Nero a most dangerous item. ...A tabletop rule and lorebook. Naturally she decided to run her own campaign. It was kind of a mess. An amusing mess, but a mess all the same. But the journey was unfinished.

     ....Unfinished until tonight.

The red clad girl has called for the journey to continue! She's situated in the inn at the village of Dun Realtai, having taken up a table which has a DM divider set up, as well as various dice, snacks and drinks, and reference sheets. She is prepared for this. /Completely prepared/.
Kazusa Ujikane     "Oooh, I've been waiting for this, waiting for this~!"

First words out of Kazusa's mouth as she strides in the door. She's got her own bag of snacks, a character sheet, and a gleeful expression. "I had a lot of fun last time!" She slides into the table across from Nero, settling in and setting out her bag of savory corn chip snacks, immediately relaxed.
Staren     Wow, has it really been a nine and a half months since that day?

Staren arrives with snacks -- pumpkin-flavored corn chips and chocolate-filled wafers, as well as a couple bottles of soda (one strawberry flavored and one other-dimension Dr. Pepper equivalent) -- which he sets in the middle of the table before taking a seat and pulling more stuff out of his handy messenger bag: A dice bag, a character sheet for EVAN NIGHTSTAR, HALF-ELVEN WIZARD PRODIGY and also a miniature he 3D-printed out.

The catboy is in pretty high spirits, smiling as people arrive. "Long time no see!"
Nero      Turns out? No one else arrives.

It's just Kazusa and Staren, whome Nero smirks and nods to when they arrive. She's not at all worried about the lack of a turnout. There are IMPORTANT THINGS happening in the Multiverse nearly every day. People probably don't have time for a tabletop session. But that's okay! "Welcome, Lady Kazusa, Sir Staren." She spreads her arms lightly. "Though our turnout may be on the low side, that shall not prevent us from seeing this adventure to it's end!"

With that said, her arms are lowered and she crosses them. "Now then, let us get into it at once!" The DM divider is raised, and a map is spread out over the center of the table. And she goes on. "Last time, our ensemble of heroes found themselves joining together in a journey to find the castle of the Demon Lord that threatens the world; Aldebaran! After much trial, his castle was indeed found! And after a harrowing battle with the Demon Lord's general, finally, it is time to venture within those walls."

Her lips curl into a smile. "Unfortunately, as your group crosses the bridge..." Nero's arms are thrown upward into the air. "...IT COLLAPSES!" What. "It is a trap by the Demon Lord! And all but two of you have made to the other side safely! Your companions have fallen into the blackest of abysses! Never to be seen again!" She resists the urge to laugh, and lowers her arms into her lap. "...And now, with just two heroes remaining... The gates of Aldebaran's castle creak open, beckoning you into the void..."
Staren     "Just two?" Staren looks between Nero and Kazusa. After a few seconds of confusion, he shrugs. What else are they going to do?

He pours himself a cup of soda as Nero narrates. Looking mildly surprised at the announcement. 'But Amalthea's character could fly...' he murmurs.

"'Wait!'" He holds a hand out, palm towards Kazusa. "'This is surely a place of great evil magic and dangerous traps. Before we go on, I will cast a protection spell!'" Staren looks to Nero, "I'm casting Protection from Evil on us before we go inside." and then crosses something off his sheet.
Kazusa Ujikane     Already, Kazusa is munching snacks like popcorn, and her greeting to Staren is a bit full-mouthed. "Mffmrf!" Wave wave.

And they're off, and... "Oh no! Yoichi's in a pinch~!" She claps her hands together and listens with a sharp, thoughtful expression, before looking at her sheet critically. "Yoichi's going to turn around and look down deep in the chasm, before turning around to look over the courtyard with her elf eyes! 'Aah, how horrid, losing all of those people is so terrible~. But...'" She sets her snacks aside and claps her hands together again. "'Ah, how wonderful! What a brilliant idea. This way we'll be able to survive long enough to strike back~!' And Yoichi's gonna lead the way in, with one arrow drawn and ready."
Nero      "Let us have a moment of silence for our fallen comrades."

     .........

     ......

     ...

"Now then! With Protection from Evil cast, the corrupting aura that permeates through the castle grounds affects you less than it would have before. Quite smart. Yoichi leads the way in, and within the courtyard are many, many gargoyle statues lined up along a straight stone path that leads to the castle doors proper. They are quite large, and very, very detailed."

Nero steeples her fingers, peering at both Kazusa and Staren. "...You can see a thick, ebon miasma flowing through the castle grounds. But all is silent. There are no enemy soldiers in wait. There are not even guards. How suspicious. ...How will you approach?"
Kazusa Ujikane     "Yoichi will watch all the gargoyles for any sign of movement or life," Kazusa says, grinning brightly. "And the instant she notices one moving, she shoots it." That seems to be Yoichi Sharpeye's solution to everything.
Staren     Staren hangs his head for the moment of silence. ... "Evan checks the corners as they enter the gate." Staren comments. "Umm... Evan does the same. Except instead of readying an arrow, he readies a blinding spell."
Nero      Nero considers the two responses, and then nods to herself, rolling some dice, and then thinking a bit more. "Very well! Yoichi carefully eyes the gargoyles, and yet...none of them move. They appear to simply be statues after all?" And then she announces Staren's results. "However! As Evan peers at the very corners, he is in for a surprise! Two soldiers, hidden in the black miasma, cloaked in ebon armor lie in wait. They can see that they have been noticed, and they dive forward, aiming to catch our two heroes in a pincer attack! They swing!"
Staren     Staren is flipping through his printouts, looking for something to deal with monsters made of stone. He didn't prepare acid spells! But apparently, that wasn't the danger! "Wait! Can Evan hit the soldiers with his readied blinding spell?"
Kazusa Ujikane     Kazusa goes wide-eyed, and points at Staren. "What he said! Sort of. I was waiting to shoot the first thing that jumped out at me, so..."
Staren     "Err, one of them, I mean." Staren adds, as he pictures the scene and realizes Nero said 'pincer attack'.
Nero      A nod is given, and Nero proceeds on. "Then you turn your prepared actions upon the charging guards. Yoichi fires an arrow at one. And a blinding spell is unleashed upon the other!" The Roman Emperor spreads her arms as she gets worked up narrating the event. "One of those armored fiends stumbles as his sight is taken from him! His swing misses and strikes the ground by Evan's side! The other is struck in the shoulder, however, but still charges! His sword arm is wounded, but he appears to be going for a tackle!"
Kazusa Ujikane     Kazusa giggles. "Ooh, Yoichi's sure regretting losing all those big meat walls now! 'Kyaa! No, get away!' She'll try to sta..." Here, Kazusa trails off, going quiet and looking briefly perturbed, before rallying. "She'll try to smack the one tackling her over the head!"
Staren     "Evan dodges to the side of the blind one, all 'Woah!'" Staren mimes it with his upper body. "Since that one's blind for now, he'll throw a firebolt at the one attacking Yoichi! 'Hang in there!'" Staren rolls a die and frowns. "Well, there's no way /that/ hits."
Nero      Nero eyes Kazusa with interest for a moment. But she lets it go soon after and launches back into DMing with gusto. "Witth the blinded one temporarily no threat, a fireball is launched at Yoichi's foe! However... it flies right past their side, the heat burning against armor, but causing him to veer away from his target. Yoichi follows up with a strike to the head. However, as it is wearing a full helmet, the damage is minimal! Nonetheless, the soldier speeds past, and tackles his partner! Bam! They collide! And then both crumple into a heap!"

The Servant chuckles, and then gestures vaguely. "With that obstacle out of the way, the castle doors open... Lord Aldebaran is waiting for you. The two heroes who remain despite the arduous journey."
Kazusa Ujikane     Oh, they survived! "Yoichi's going to stop and reclaim her arrow," Kazusa declares. "...and maybe kick one of the soldiers. /Then/ she goes to head on inside, probably looking a little upset about actually being hit."
Staren     "Firebolt." Staren corrects. "I'm not wasting a fireball spell on one guard." He blinks. "Um... Well, /that/ happened. Wait! Before we go in, we check the bodies! They might have... I dunno, keys, or a map, or a missive from the Dark Lord! And maybe Yoichi could take one of their weapons as backup, if she's any good in melee."
Kazusa Ujikane     Kazusa shakes her head. "She's not," she explains with a giggle. "Yoichi really likes bows. Really, really, /really/ likes bows."
Nero      Nero smirks. "Ah, yes. Fire/bolt/." She would say semantics, but there actually was a difference. Well! In any case- "You check their bodies, and you find keys. Their weapons are both jet black blades. Hardly weapons fit for a wielder of the bow, hm?" She claps her hands once. "And so, with newly acquired keys in hand, and arrow reclaimed, the two heroes venture forth! The statues...do not attack! They are merely decoration. Is it perhaps foolishness or a trap meant to draw one's eyes away? Perhaps yoy may as the dark lord himself!" A chuckle follows, and then Nero launches into the next part. "The inside of the castle is much the same as the outside. Black miasma is everywhere. As you stand in the foyer, you see three directions to go. Forward and up the stairs to the corridor that leads to Lord Aldebaran's audience chamber... or down halls on the western and eastern points from your position." Nero crosses her arms. "Once again, there are no guards. However, the castle walls appear to be twisted, with eyes embedded in them, peering at you, following your movements. Lord Aldebaran sees all."
Staren     "Having people lie in wait while the heroes' eyes are drawn to statues they expect to animate and attack is pretty clever. This Lord Aldebaran has clearly dealt with adventurers before..." Staren comments.

He scratches his head, and his ears flick. "Well, shoot. So he can see us anyway..." He looks to Kazusa. "What do you think? Want to just go straight ahead, or hope we can find something useful in the side rooms and that they're not traps?"
Kazusa Ujikane     "We might as well go on ahead," Kazusa replies, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "If he's smart enough to play tricks like that, he's smart enough to account for adventurers trying to gain a leg up. If we go in right now, we'll at least have more health to spare!"
Staren     "I guess that's reasonable... up we go, then! Um, since we're getting pretty close, in case of traps, I summon a..." Staren shuffles through papers. "...celestial dog, and have it run ahead to trip any traps!"
Nero      Nero chuckles to herself. "After that last trap in the courtyard, our heroes decide not to tempt fate, and move forward as they are. Up the stairs they go... down the corridor. Further and further onward. The walk feels long, with the world growing more and more obscured in black miasma." She glances at Staren. "Evan's celestial dog runs forward, into the inky blackness. As they move, they eventually hear a loud yelp! Evan will sense that his familiar was summarily blindsided from above! But before it died, what it saw was an audience chamber within the void, an abyssal figure seated upon the umbral throne... Your destination lies ahead. Lord Aldebaran lies in wait."
Staren     Staren flinches slightly at the described yelp, and turns to say something to Kazusa, not expecting Nero to provide further exposition. He listens, then says "So, there's some sort of trap or monster above... Will a light spell work on this blackness, or is it more of a fog than just... darkness?"
Kazusa Ujikane     "Hmm~... Hmhmhm..." Kazusa makes some very thoughtful sounds indeed. "Yoichi is probably going to be keeping those sharp elven eyes of hers on the miasma above! And possibly fire one up into it, when they get to about the place where the familiar disappeared. ...yeah, she'll fire one up in that general area, just in case!" She nods to Staren. "Even if it's obscuring our sight magically, I bet it won't obscure an arrow."
Staren     "Evan casts a light spell on Yoichi's arrow as she nocks it!" Staren adds, nodding and looking back to Nero.
Nero      Nero listens to their plans, and then rolls some dice, nodding to herself after. Hmmhmm... Then she speaks. "You proceed onward, finding that the darkness is no longer merely a fog. It coats everything, plunging it into void. As as the two of you arrive roughly where Evan's familiar was destroyed, Yoichi knocks an arrow. With an enchantment from Evan, a light arrow is fired upward!" Nero smiles as she pauses for effect. "And then there is a great and terrible roar! A fiend of gargantuan size falls, crashing to the floor between the two of you, and the one sitting upon the throne. It is Lord Aldebaran. She sits in a rather bored manner, a fist resting against a cheek. And he says 'Again, you see through my trap. I am mildly impressed, I suppose. ...However, it is not over just yet.'"

She spreads her arms a bit and speaks onward. "The fallen beast, avian, with great wings, pulsing with veins of red, stands towering above, and glares down at the two of you with baleful eyes! Then, from it's beak, a wave of red flame is breathed downwards!"
Staren     "'Woah! ...Yeah, well it'll be over when we're through with you!'" Staren replies, rolling a die and frowning again. "...is what Evan will say, if he's still alive after this." He looks to Yoichi. "Remember, you get +2 to the save from my protection spell!"
Kazusa Ujikane     "Even with that +2, that's a hit," Kazusa mumbles sadly. "And Yoichi is now on fire. And shrieking in panic. And shooting an arrow at the bird thing! She shoots things when she's scared. It's a reflex."
Staren     Staren scribbles down lost HP in a box on his sheet. "I'm still up! 'It won't be all over until we're through with you!'" Staren waves his hand as if dramatically casting a spell. "And Evan throws a fireball, trying to catch both the raven /and/ the dark lord in the blast!"
Nero      Nero rolls dice, and then starts narrating. "Yoichi and Evan are caught in the blast, taking a large amount of damage while also being set aflame! Nonetheless, they counter! Arrows are fired! And a fireball spell is cast!" She clenches a fist. "Those arrows strike the beast, with its large frame impossible to miss! And the blast follows, engulfing the fiend whole! The void is briefly tinted scarlet as the raven falls, defeated. ..However in the aftermath, a shining barrier can be seen." Nero smirks. "...Lord Aldebaran is untouched, having simply raised a hand to form a magic barrier. 'Impressive. That merely two of you would best The Raven. And yet now...' He stands, drawing off his cloak and revealing the living armor worn beneath. It was spiked, with eyes embedded within, blinking repeatedly. 'I shall deal with you myself, and then take over the world.'" Nero has a sip of tea, and then goes on. "Lord Aldebaran steps down from the throne, and waves a hand, causing a plethora of dark spikes to jut upwards under you!"
Staren     Staren is pleasantly surprised that a small party could defeat the miniboss that quickly -- he doesn't seem put out that the final boss had a shield. That's almost to be expected! When the spikes are announced, he rolls his save and sighs, "Really?? I cannot catch a break... If that doesn't kill me, can I recognize the shield spell he's using? Does it have any weaknesses? Wait! Even if I die, I had time to see the shield! I shout its weaknesses to her as my dying words!"
Kazusa Ujikane     Kazusa's eyes light up. "Ooh! Ooh! That misses me this time! Yoichi's able to roll out of the way of the attack, and..." She looks at Staren, then at Nero... and grins. "Is there some way I could break off one of those spikes to use as an arrow?"
Nero      Nero chuckles and nods. "Our poor Evan takes another blow! And this one is his last! However, in taking said damage, he can recognize that it is the spell Shadow Spear, from the Dark Warlock skill tree. It does one d20 of dark damage with power added on as bonus, along with a chance to poison." And then she glances at Kazusa, smirking in turn. "Evan shouts the properties of the spell to you with his dying breath, and the spikes remain. If you wish to break off one, do make the attempt. This can only be entertaining."
Kazusa Ujikane     "I will!" Kazusa replies energetically. "Yoichi's gonna reach down and try just as hard as she can to snap off one of those spikes!" She takes a die, rolls, and...
Staren     Staren holds up a finger, "Umm, I meant the shield spell, so that hopefully she can find an attack that will bypass it..."
Kazusa Ujikane     Kazusa replies, "See, that's why the spike! Because it's /his/ magic, see, and I bet you /his/ magic can pass through /his/ barrier, or... something!"
Nero      Nero blinks, and then leans back and brings a hand to her chin. "....Clever. Very clever. In fact, I cannot find anything to refute this! Even without knowledge of the barrier, the theory is sound." She says, looking terribly amused at Kazusa and Staren. "...However, Yoichi critically fails to break off that spike, and trips, falling flat onto her face." Nero's lips spread wide. "Lord Aldebaran is not wise to your plans, but with only one hero left, he raises his palm and casts Dark Lightning, causing multiple streams of purple electricity to blaze across the ground at the fallen archer!"
Kazusa Ujikane     Kazusa bites her lip, frowning. "Oh jeez, that... oh wow. One HP left. Yoichi's trying with the last of her strength to do it again!" Roll!
Staren     "You can do it! If the dice like you I mean. Remember, you have... um.... um... Okay, I got nothing. I'm dead. Wait, are we using the channel willpower alternate rule? She could use that to add dice to her roll!"
Nero      "Yoichi makes another attempt after having bore the brunt of that terrible attack. With the last burst of strength left in her, she pulls, and pulls, and....! It snaps! The dark spike is in Yoichi's grasp! And Lord Aldebaran pauses. Beneath the dark shadow of his figure, you can almost sense that he is smirking. 'Hmph. What nonsense is this? You are already dead. Cease your struggling, girl.' And he steps forward, fist clenched and burst into flame in order to strike the final blow! What will Yoichi do!?"
Kazusa Ujikane     Kazusa develops a deep grin. "'Struggling? Of course I'm not struggling... my target's right in front of me. How could I miss~?'" She's already got the die in hand. "Of course Yoichi's gonna try and shoot him with it. Right in his big dumb eye." And a roll...
Nero      Nero frowns as she gets into character. "'What nonsense.' Lord Aldebaran states as he erects his magic barrier! But... But the spike passes right through, as if the barrier were never there! 'What!?' FWOOSH! A blow right to the head, and an explosion of black flame follows, engulfing the void chamber! 'No! Noooooooo!' The darkness soon gives way to light, as the void is expelled wit the defeat of Lord Aldebaran, and in the end... Only Yoichi stands, the last survivor of the battle against the Dark Lord..."
Staren     Staren pumps a fist as Nero describes the attack going through, and the aftermath. "We did it!" He holds up a hand to Kazusa for a high-five. After that, he brings up something on a tablet. "By the way, there's this really cheap reincarnation item that was printed in one adventure. If you use some of the Dark Lord's treasure to buy it, you can bring back Evan when you get back to town!"
Kazusa Ujikane     "'Ehehe. Ehehehehe. Bows really are the best. Even a Dark Lord...'" Finally, Kazusa loses her grip on her character and breaks into real, non-creepy giggles, giving Staren the high-five. "Oh man, I can't believe that worked, but I'm /totally/ okay with it." She looks at Staren, then the tablet, rubbing her chin. "Tempting. But then again, Yoichi Sharpeye's a little touched in the head. I dunno if she would! She might. I'm not sure."
Staren     Staren sticks his tongue out at Kazusa briefly, though he doesn't seem miffed, and then turns to Nero. "Thanks for running the game, it was neat! Do you plan to turn this into a regular thing, or was that just a one-shot?"
Nero      Nero just watches the two celebrate while sipping her tea, folding up the DM divider and setting it down flat. "Hmm. Perhaps I might. I realize in recent days that people have more important things to attend to than games like these. But I will endeavor to try when I can."
