Lyner Barsett      It's been a while.

Quite a bit of a while actually.

In that time both the Union and the Confederacy went belly up, their bases essentually got twisted into pretzels, and then the Multiverse itself threw up. In the aftermath of all of this, new groups formed to pick up the pieces, and Lyner, displaced from his old home in the Multiverse, was left to join one of those group, offering his services and getting by as much as he could in this new situation.

It's on this particular day, that he finds himself walking down a busy street in New York. He's got no armor on, and instead is wearing a white jacket over his red sweater and black pants. He's mostly minding his own business as he moves. "Alright, so I need to get to Grand Central, and then..." Mumbling to himself, he stops at the end of a sidewalk, waiting as the light turns green and cars start to speed by.
Jakuri     While Lyner might be fitting in, a certain someone else isn't even *trying*. The Multiverse does at least afford people the sense not to riot when something weird is afoot, and so as Mir is carried down the street upon the back of her ever-loyal robodogge, people are giving her a rather wide berth. While she might have been one to lay on her front, chin in hands and watch the world go by usually... Today she's laying on her back atop ELMA, hands behind her head as she stares at the sky. Mir is not remotely aware of anything going on around her, and in fact only ELMA seems to have any idea about where they might be going. Anyone that gets too close is offered a tinny-sounding growl that doesn't even seem to rouse Mir from whatever reverie she's in... Just a blank-faced stare toward the clouds.
Lyner Barsett      Naturally, no one in New York City is going to know what ELMA was. Or the girl laying atop it. Sure, there were the Avengers, and other superheroes about, but nothing quite like that. So when Lyner looks aside and sees the robodog, he double-takes. "...!?" Is that...? Crap, there's no mistaking it. That's ELMA. Which means... Ah, he's got to look!

The light turns red, but he moves aside though the crowd, approaching the robot directly and smiling. Really, ELMA knows who he is! It's not like he'll get mauled. But he moves to pass it, and come to stand at it's side, looking down over the reyvateil laying atop it and staring at the sky. "......." Silence. And then he smiles a dumb smile and raises a hand in greeting. "Hey."

     Real eloquent.
Jakuri     So eloquent and... So Lyner. As cars honk at him for making them screech to a halt, ELMA likewise comes to a stop. There's no electronic growl, just silence as it stops and likely scans the boy for familiarity. It is the *lack* of protest from the robodog that gets Mir's attention initially, enough to get her to blink back to reality a moment before a dumb smile is directly in her line of sight. The Reyvateil blinks again. And again, before sitting herself up and looking at Lyner with the most incredulous and confused look he may ever get to see upon her face in his entire life. What follows NEXT may also be a surprise... Before she leaps off the robot's back and lands squarely before him, dark eyes staring hard into his a moment before she ends up hugging him. Another moment and she's shaking, making no noise... Is his chest damp?
Lyner Barsett      Honk honk.

     Oops.

Crap! He did that whole dumb 'hold up traffic for a touching moment' thing that always happens in movies, and he didn't even mean to. God damn it. There's a sheepish smile as he looked down at Mir, and then a sidelong glance for traffic. "Uh... Maybe we should get back into the sidewa- Huh?" He blinks dumbly, as he's suddenly hugged. Mir. Hugging him. Loading... Loading...Loading... Error. Cannot Compute. "Uhhhhh...." He is supremely confused for a short while, at least until he starts to feel a mild dampness seeping through his sweater. No way? That's impossible.

Impossible, AND they need to get out of traffic! Sure that ELMA would follow, Lyner leads the Reyvateil off, spotting a nearby cafe. Apologizing for the holdup to others, he just guides her along until they are seat out of the way of people and cars. Once all that is done, he speaks, hands upon her shoulders "It's good to see you again, Mir. I uh... I was really worried about where you could have vanished to after everything went down, but..." ELMA is given a glance. "It looks like you were okay after all, haha."
Jakuri     No one is going to argue with the apology when there's a literal tankdog staring down anyone that comes too close to its owner. As such, even the drivers just dumbly nod where appropriate before going about their days as they began them, ELAM trailing silently along behind Lyner and Mir as they make for the nearby cafe. Seated outside so that ELMA can remain nearby, Mir seems rather, well... Muted, in a rare show of emotions besides 'grump and snark'. She does at least prove easy enough to loosen from gripping Lyner, seated beside him and staring at her lap as her cheeks prove rather... Wet, and her eyes watery. "J-Jerk," she sniffs in reply to him at last. "J-Jerk!"
Lyner Barsett      "Wh-huh?" Lyner mutters in confusion. "J-Jerk?" He repeats after Mir, blinking a few times. "W-What did I do?" Comes the oblivious question. And the sad part is that he's really asking that, and not being facetious. Lyner quietly orders something simple like a slice of cake, just so they're not stealing space, then it's back to Mir. "I mean...uh...well...are you okay? You weren't in danger, were you? I lost contact completely, but...well, you know." He sighs after that, rubbing back of his head nervously.
Jakuri     "Y-You left me all alone, you jerk! Why did you d-do that?!" Mir looks up at that, eyes water and streaming tears as she does her best to look fierce and... Well. Fails utterly. For a rare moment in her life, she instead looks like the vulnerable teenager she effectively is, her hundreds of years meaning very little in the grand scheme of things. She rather lamely bats at Lyner's chest before leaning into him again as she utterly fails to try and collect herself behind her usual veneer of superiority. deciding instead to simply hide her shame from those about her. "N-No I am *not* okay!" she states while muffled, voice cracked.
Lyner Barsett      Oh man.

Seeing Mir like this was just *odd*. And it made him feel supremely guilty. He always assumed that she would soldier through anything with the power of four million years of snark and a couple killer robots, plus Ayatane. Not to say he didn't worry about her, but that she would make it through anything thrown her way. ...And hey, she did. But still. "...I'm sorry." Lyner finally just says as the Reyvateil bats at his chet rather uselessly. He brings his arms around her shoulders and pulls her into another hug. "I'm sorry for leaving you alone, Mir. I always thought you would make it through anything, so I focused on the problems in front of me, and held out faith that you would be fine." He rubs the top of her head, speaking calmly and apologetically. "And hey, you *did* make it out fine." A stupid grin forms then. "But even so... I should have been there. So again, I'm really sorry."
Jakuri     Apparently glad for the arms about her, Mir does fall a quiet for a time, barring the occasional heaved sigh as she attempts to calm herself down. Only after a few more minutes, and a lot of weird looks from those passing by, does she once again tug away from him and wipe at her face with a gloved hand. "I-I thought I *was* f-fine," she puffs, still trying to be, well... Trying to be 'the usual Mir'. "I-I was f-fine! A-And then... A-And then you c-come out of the crowd...!" She hiccoughs then, gritting her teeth and clamping her damp eyes shut. "I-I thought everything went... Wrong again. Th-That I had lost everyone again."
Lyner Barsett      Lyner just holds Mir until she finally calms down enough to let go and gather herself. All that time, he ignored the weird looks they were getting. What was reputation in the face of taking care of a friend, right? Patiently, he just smiles and listens as she says that she was fine. ...Until he came along. "... Ahahaha, oops." He starts, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "I guess that means I shouldn't have run into you, huh?"

What a terrible joke to tell someone who just came down from an emotional outburst. "But seriously... Not everyone is gone." There's a soothing smile as Lyner says so. "Ar-Ciel is still there." He points up into the sky, indicating space. "It's...in space now. Oh, and space isn't breathable anymore. So much for that, huh?" A chuckle follows. "It took a while to find it again though, after all that craziness happened."

And then he gestures to himself. "You and I are still around, and..." "..... ...." "Well, everyone else from the Union are still around. Though...some have gone off to other groups." It sounds like he skipped something there. Almost. "Anyway, I found you again, so everything's fine!"

     How optimistic.
Jakuri     "Hmpf," Mir manages weakly, not so much an indigtant sound as simply an expulsion of air. She wipes at her eyes again and sighs, at least sounding a bit more steady if fragile. "I saw the world end once, I didn't really want to see it again," she finally states grimly. Dark, slightly bloodshot eyes glance at Lyner. "I thought I was alone among all these lame *humans* and, and..." She sighs, and looks down. "I got used to not being alone anymore. After I was in Metafallica and then came here and... And stayed with you and Misha. It was nice... And then it all went wrong again."
Lyner Barsett      "Haha...weeeeell..." Lyner chuckles at the mention of having seen the world end once. He's not nothing witty to say about that. "...Yeah, I bet you wouldn't want to see that again." He reaches over and ruffles the Reyvateil's hair. "Sorry about that that." There's a small pause right there. "Well hey, we can always do that again, you know?" The blonde fool offers, ignoring the implications. "I mean, Misha's gone missing in all of that stuff too, but we can always get a place somewhere and keep it ready for her return, right?"
