Velvet Crowe     Dannan Highway, a vast swath of verdant, grassy plains which connect Loegres, the capital of the Holy Midgand Empire, to a number of its smaller cities along the coast of the continent... is not looking so great right now.

Indeed it doesn't much matter what direction you come in from, the roads are overrun by daemons. Wildlife, from the looks of things. Wolves, gibbons, small birds with beaks like axes, monstrous snakes are wandering about in large numbers, all glowing with that black, purple and red sort of mist typical of daemons. The cities are both ends of the highway have closed their gates, guarded by exorcists in white and gold armor. It's a shame you can't see much of Loegres right now-- it's a massive city, walled off like a fortress, with a towering cathedral in the middle.

If it was just the wildlife mutating into daemons though, calls for aid wouldn't have been send. In the middle of the horde, large, bulky humanoids seem to be leading the daemons. Orcs - pigmen wearing the tattered clothing of farmers, wielding axes and pitchforks - are being led by one, much larger humanoid. This 'Orc Kong', yes it isn't a typo, is in fact a very large gorilla of a man, in much the same clothing style, wielding an equally large axe.

Under the distorted grunts of the orcs, the other daemons are starting to come together, not unlike a militia.

All along the road, the remains of trade caravans (and in some cases, of the traders who were with them) are strewn about, scattering food and assorted goods among the blood and limbs.

There is also a very angry young woman charging into the mass of daemons from the rear. Velvet does not do subtle, and all she sees here is a buffet.
Drustan Cynbel A cloud of darkness preceeds the arrival of the Darkbringer, who comes through it to jump into the fray, his sword burning with a foul-smelling blue flame. People around here would likely assume this armoured man clad in darkness is a Daemon. They would strictly speaking be wrong, but the Darkbringer won't hold the confusion against them.

He glances towards the young woman in question, "'ey Lass, mind havin' a talk about what be happenin' 'ere when we're done taking these guys out o' the picture?" And then he charges in, the Darkbringer may be short and clad in darkness, but he's fierce and that sword of his holds real magic.
Shin Tokuyama     Shin is here. Shin is also not wearing his leisure suit today. Instead, he's wearing beige cargo shorts, a tanktop, a hawaiian print shirt unbuttoned, and a pair of sandals on his feet. He still has his sunglasses, though, because he's rarely ever without those. They cover up his wicked awesome heterochromia.

"Well, there she goes again," He comments as he strides up on the meeting spot. He sets his backpack down against a tree and sighs, stretching a bit and popping his back. He was totally on a wicked training montage in South Ameria when he heard about this job, meaning that he was in much more relaxed attire than usual.

He's not actually moving to join the fight yet. Instead, he's kind of milling around the outskirts of the battle and assessing the situation. And also filming Velvet with his phone to upload it to youtube.
Samantha Middleton     The Endeavor, Samantha's airship, swings in a wide path around the incoming assault on the cities, looking for a good place to drop. The airship is sturdy and DOES have weapons, but they're more meant to keep riffraff away than engage in an actual battle(read: no PL), so Michelle and Samantha don't want to risk it.
It gives a good view of the area though! That means the armored teenager is dropping down on the flank and still carrying her turrets. She's going to... keep an eye on Velvet, anyway. She doesn't engage until one of the smaller ones actually comes after her, and then she is going to preserve ammunition and favor her blade and claw on the suit for now. "Wow... that's a big one."
Sanary Rondel Monster hunting? Demons? Reward money? Of course Sanary's going to show up to check things out. She's even brought her gunaxe and a Phyic staff along, hefting the former on her shoulder and wearing the latter on her back. It looks like she's already fallen behind some, though, with a few familiar backs and an unfamiliar one further ahead. The healer breaks into a run just to make sure she can catch up, even cheating a bit with little jumps forward with the flight anklets.

"Huh. These things got axes, too? This should be fun....!" It's pretty obvious that the war cleric's seeing this whole as a challenge, what with her using an axe and them using axes. "Just don't take 'em all out before I get there, huh?"
Maya Maya had heard the call given the majority of the demons were infected animals? The best option was to take them out if she was to use non lethal it would be to try on the ones who were once human. So the humanoids Maya seemed to be ready to go. She'd been the lone Paladin responder to this and this world left her uneasy it reminded her of other things she'd experiance din the multiverse like the effect the warp had upon the space tht the Imperium of Man was located in. She supressed a shudder as she recalled wht happend to her the last time she encounted these things. She was armed to the teeth too her rifle was at the ready as she moed to go in as she saw some others were moving in to fight.

"I'd not find it that fun Snary. This is an infestation we're dealing with here sadly, there was an attempt to infect me during my last encounter with these things..."
Velvet Crowe     There are, for reference, no exorcists nearby. Though they are ready to intervene if called upon, they've wisely chosen to remain deployed at the gates of the cities on either end of the highway, and that puts them a good ten minutes away minimum. In sight, not in reach. Maya would have met with Oscar at the gates of Loegres, even, and found that he's rather grouchy at being asked to stay back and observe. But, it's important for the Abbey to get a good idea of what they're dealing with, outsider-wise.

As the Darkbringer arrives, Velvet glares at him between two swipes of her sword. "We'll see if the exorcists'll let us do that in peace," is her answer. They're quite a distance from Loegres, but if they spot her she doubts they'll be able to resist a charge.

Cleaving through the outer layer of daemons, for now, isn't threatening for either of them, as long as they don't let their guards down. Drustan's blade fells a few wolves, and Velvet's killing monkeys.

They are quickly beset by snakes. One spits acidic venom towards Drustan, while two reach to bite into his legs if they can get close enough.

Samantha's entrance is rather flashy, and she might have to deal with Abbey attention in the future. Flying ships are not a thing here! They'll want to know. That's for later, though. A small swarm of axe-beaked birds are circling around her, and though the first few go down to small arms fire, the rest lunge in using each other as cover, to bite and slice.

Sanary skips past the small fry and lands in the cluster of orcs. They swing, immediatly, protective of their leader. Unfortunately for them pitchforks are totally lances and Sanary has the weapon triangle advantage on half of the orcs! The other half has axes though and they're coming in from every side. There's about a dozen of them.

And since Shin is over there filming, he doesn't quite get bothered yet. There's rustling in the bushes, but surely it's just the wind. Right?
Shin Tokuyama     "Oh gee, here I am filming and not paying attention," Shin says in response to the rustling in the bushes nearby him, still keeping a pretty good grip on his phone. He's filming in horizontal, because he's not one of those heathens who films vertical and then uploads it to youtube so that there are black lines on either side and the footage is much lower size than it could have been otherwise. Seriously, who does that? Horrible people, that's who.

But we digress. Shin is mostly keeping the camera on Velvet as she fights, but he is completely aware that something may be trying to sneak up on him. He just mostly is playing along with his own little narrative. In his mind, he's a protagonist, so as long as he doesn't move, he won't have any random encounters that waste his resources, and only plot-relevant cutscene encounters will happen for him.
Drustan Cynbel "So we cut 'em down if they get in our way, 'tis simple." Drustain has to say about the Abbey, "Th'Archon o' Light an' his cronies, 'ey call me th' Darkbringer. Me, I prefer Drustan Cynbel. What shall I call ye, lass?" Drustan just lets the acid hit him. He's not scared of it, and he responds by reaching out for one of those snakes with his open hand, trying to grasp it so he can drain its vital energies and leave behind an empty husk.

Then he swings his blade wide, the smell of brimstone becomes ever clearer as that sulphuric fire goes flying towards the daemons, "Ya lot, deal with the small fry." He calls out for no-one in particular, and then he jumps, the very ground itself giving him an extra push, leaving a small eruption of stone behind where his feet where.

He's trying to get in melee range with the big guy, and doesn't care if that means surrounding himself with daemons.
Samantha Middleton     Axe-birds? Stuff here is weird. But daemons are weird! Naively unaware that airships are something strange, Samantha guns down a few of the small fry, and then one of the axe-birds manages to slice open Fido's leg, answered by a vicious slash with the retractable blade in the armor. "There sure are a lot of these things. I'd better try to clean up the small ones before heading over there."
The jets on her armor fire! This rockets her forward and into the whole mess... heavy armor and all. That's so she can drop her turrets and get them set up, trying to buy time to tighten a loosened wire in her armor from the attack earlier while putting the axebirds in a crossfire of bullets!
Sanary Rondel "I gotta take what I can get. Things have been so quiet back home!" Sanary shouts in reply to Maya as she comes down from one of her boosted jumps, very nearly toppling right over from the momentum. The healer does land with a big stomp, though, and it'd totally be cooler if she actually planned for it with a proper pose than just awkwardly landing on one foot and righting herself with no pose whatsoever.

At least she's in the thick of things now. Even better, she's landed among a gathering of orcs with lances! Weapon triangle be damned most of the time, but it might actually work in her favor today! Worst case scenario...

Well, she might as well try applying some of that fancy strategy thing she's seen work so well elsewhere. "Oh! Are we doing introductions now? Name's Sanary, so holler if you need healing support!"

What does being called Sanary have to do with that? Anyway. Instead of just waiting for them to all stab or chop into her at once, the axe cleric instead launches herself in a random direction, trying to cleave into the closest pair of orcs. Best case scenario? She only gets hit from ten directions instead of twelve!

Worst case scenario? She still gets the shit stabbed out of her. At least she'll look cool healing herself during it!
Maya MAya sees there are no exocists nearby no, she go how Oscar was feeling but also was aware they did need to get full on measure of the extraversals did they not? It was fair and tey were making sure to protect civilians in the process. Maya then will take a moment beore she zsprings to action. She knwo she's more or less on her own and she now moves in the rifle opens up and she just ends up tryingto hose down the lesser creatures there's no pause, no rel stop asMaya does not stop shooting she's clearly trying to take out the small fry on the way to a bigger prey. After all the small fry could get misse and keep spreading the infection for now she's not spotted Velvet and company just /yet/ but it shouldn't take long before she does and then life's going to get interesting.

Sanary gone for bigger prey but then agian with how Sanary fight sit might be what she's best suited for.
Charity Whiteheart     When the airship came past, Charity hitched a ride... and leapt off. That's where she still is, though, hanging in the air and riding the wind. It's a lot harder for her to gain ailtitude once it's lost with this sort of flight, so she's keeping an eye out for an opening instead. She doesn't have the range to do more than suppressive 'fire' from above, or rather quick air-slices while she circles, to pick off any stragglers in the mess of smaller daemons.

This should tell Velvet and the others here that she's ready and able to dive in... but she has an eye on the big Orc, and that means she wants to make her first strike count.
Velvet Crowe     Shin intentionally tanks the ambush. Unfortunately the ambush must be adjusted for another kind of protagonist, because vines and tentacles lash out, as the bush actually starts rustling closer to the martial artist. There are glowing red eyes within, and masses of roots and vines that could vaguely maybe probably look like arms and legs. The vines are actually somewhat acidic to the touch too, if they manage to grab ahold of Shin at all.

And yes the bush is now glowing like a daemon.
That's what happens when you have so many in an area.

Drustan gets Velvet to reply crudely with: "Velvet, daemon, don't care! Pick one!" In her defense, she's suddenly busy holding a very large gibbon back, at least until her arm bursts out of its bandages and swipes. Unusually, she doesn't eat the daemon outright, but the swipe was certainly lethal. What falls to the ground isn't a daemon's corpse, it's a regular, standard gibbon, as if cleansed. The other daemons aren't reverting when killed, just the ones she starts mowing down with her arm. And not eating. The ones she has time to eat just, well, vanish.

The Darkbringer for his part drains a snake of its life and shoots fire everywhere, clearing up his snake problem entirely. He leaps towards the orcs! A couple swing their pitchforks upward, trying to intercept him.

Samantha rains bullets on the birds, taking another two out. There's still a surprising amount of them. They back off! They... start casting spells? They are definitely doing just that. Green magic flickers around them as the wind picks up, and the combined artes of the remaining birds create a small tornado trying to sweep Samantha up, while preventing the turrets from firing through.

Sanary plants her axe into two of the orcs with one sweep, but neither goes down. Lucky for her, Drustan's arrival distracts a chunk of them, and now she's only dealing with six, not twelve. Two of which are injured and staggered. The remaining four work in tandem; the two with pitchforks stay out of Sanary's axe's reach, stabbing from afar, while the axe-wielding ones come in for close slashes.

Maya, from afar, opens fire with her guns. Birds, snakes, gibbons and wolves are torn apart by her support from afar, giving everyone else not just a breather if they need one, but covering fire if they work with where she's firing. This gets the attention of the wolves in particular, a small pack of them detaching from the main horde to circle around Maya's position. One howls, sending a supersonic blast towards her! The other four leap in to bite the moment that goes off, expecting her to be stunned.

Charity does much the same sort of covering fire, picking apart daemons that try to escape once injured. Like Samantha though, she's in the path of that tornado the birds created! How do Charity's wind powers fare against that?
Shin Tokuyama     "IYAHN~!" Shin cries out as the vines lash out towards him. He drops his phone and thrashes against the vines that grip him, "No! Not here! Not with such a creature! I was saving myself for senpai! Not like this for my first ti- OH HEY WOAH. Damnit! That actually fucking hurts!"

Shin goes from 'playing along like a dumbass' to 'ready to smash the shit out of something' as soon as the acidic part of the vines comes in to play! His body wreaths in ki and he spins a full 360, shredding vines with his life force before dropping to the ground, "Alright. Let's do this."

Shin casually flicks his hand and hurls a ki fireball at the bush that smashes into the bush and explodes into a burst of fire.
Samantha Middleton     Damn. Those winds shear through and whip up the turrets. Said turrets have pitons to keep them in place, but that's to keep them from being easily knocked over, not to protect them against a tornado intent on ripping them up and hurling them away! There goes her covering fire.
"AW come on, almost!" Inside Fido, Samantha gives a firm YANK and finally wrenches the leg and arm back into full motion from the damage earlier. It's a short-term patch job but it should work! Now she has to fire her jets again, trying to keep steady in the tornado... aided mooostly by the heavy weight of Fido to keep her a little steady. It makes her shots trying to cut down their numbers wilder, but she is using her main cannon this time. She can't treat these small fry as... small fry any more!
Sanary Rondel This isn't going too badly at all. With half of those orcs occupied by Drustan, Sanary gives him a grateful nod and grin before turning her attention back to her adversaries. "Good plan. But... How long have you been doing this, anyway?"

Would they even understand her? It's not too important... Maybe. Considering their clothing, she does hesitate just a bit, and that hesitation gives the axe-wielding orcs a chance to take the healer down! Their slashes find flesh and coat fabric, but it's not quite enough to bring the tough one down! Hell, it even looks she managed to actually back off enough to keep those cuts from being too deep: Just enough to look bad with all the blood, but not enough to outright remove anything.

"Gh...! Not bad, but not good enough!" Jerking herself back, Sanary swings herself and the axe around in a spin before swinging the gunaxe in another wide arc, trying to smash through the orcs' axes and arms in another giant swing. As she does, though, she looks confused instead of excited or angry because...

"... Shin, what the /hell/ were those noises just before?"
Drustan Cynbel "Velvet it is, then." Drustan answers the Daemon just before he strengthens his armour by infusing it with the essence of Earth, getting hit by multiple pitchforks. While most don't manage to pierce, there's enough there to make it through and draw blood, and there's a bit of laughter there as this short man armoured in black feels himself bleed.

"Ye think ye can take on th' Darkbringer? Ye better bloody think twice." He taunts the daemons, trying to run his burning sword through one on the way towards the one at the center, which is his real price, the blade arcing up to try to cut off and cauterize an arm of the Orc Kong.
Charity Whiteheart     Caught in the tornado! This is, fortunately, something Charity /can/ do something about. She doesn't have full wind manipulation yet, but she's had her powers long enough to pick up a few tricks... and what her flight lacks in gaining altitude, she makes up for in sheer maneuverability. "Fuck" she curses, before she whips out her daggers.

Okay, if that's how they want to play it... Charity whips her daggers down, slicing counter to the spin of the tornado and sending her own powers inward, to try to cut it below that minimal threshold. Magic of the local realm, versus the power of nightmares she wields. Though... if she succeeds, she may realize this wasn't the /best/ idea.
Maya Maya is clearing out a number of smaller fry here it was a good thing she wasn't alone though there was a lot to clear out but it seems tht Maya has found she has a problem. The wolves are now targeting her, there were creatures like it on her home world so she has some ideas. Well for normal ones. Some lets off a powerful howl. IT rattles her but he's not full on strunend she can't use the gun though and ha o think of something else. Maya moves weaving and trying get clear one catches he and she's forced to try and beat it off. She has a hand free and that's when the fire fate spells come. Pillars of fire which she attempts to catch wolves in.

"BURN!"

Is all Maya has to say for them, Maya also knows there's other people here and she's not sure if all of them were called in by the Abby. She's going to have to press on quick at this point but the wolves have to go first...
Velvet Crowe     Shin shreds vines, and sets a bush on fire. It's no great surprise that fire works great against this particular daemon, burning away parts of its folliage. It perserves, though! Vines raise in the air, wobbling and waving about despite half of them being cut, as the earth starts trembling. Magic gathers within the bush and around it, until spikes of earth suddenly shoot out from underneath it, trying to skewer Shin, while putting up a wall he can't fireball through. Or that's the intent, at least.

Samantha weathers the storm, and utilizing her much larger cannon shoots through the barrier of wind and blows one of the axebeaks away completely. The remaining ones chitter and chirp among themselves, before another round of spellcasting occurs. The tornado speeds up, and shrinks! Its walls become sharp as blades as it starts trying to crunch Samantha within the increasingly smaller funnel.

Sanary makes herself vulnerable for a moment, and then retaliates against the celebrating orcs. A pitchfork breaks, and the two orcs that were immediatly in melee are sent flying back, lethally wounded by the spinslash. Remains one with a pitchfork, two wounded axe-wielders, and a now-unarmed orc trying to... wrestle Sanary? When in doubt, wrestle.

Drustan stabs and kills one of the regular orcs, his aerial stunt making the remaining five stumble back a bit towards Sanary! The Orc Kong is not amused, as the gorilla stomps forward, dwarfing Drustan in size and build several times over. It growls, wordlessly, bringing its massive axe down, shockwave trailing behind it.

Charity gambles and it mostly pays off. The shrinking tornado is broken away by her counter-rotation slashes, but blades of wind are sent in every direction as a result. Mostly at her and Samantha. On the bright side, the pesky axebeaks aren't covered by the winds anymore.

Maya defeats the wolves' expectations and sets them on fire. They howl, half of them burning up immediatly. The two remaining ones, wounded, redouble their efforts in desperation. One howls again, the same sort of supersonic blast trying to stun Maya again. The second lunges with its claws out, speed immensely boosted by a sudden gust of wind that carries it.

Velvet, in the thick of it, uses her arm to suddenly blast a wall of fire up, tearing a straight line through the daemons towards the orcs. She leaps, swiping down to strike the ones aggressing Sanary. When they fall over dead, they've reverted to farmers and low-class villagers, Velvet's arm pulsing as it drinks SOMETHING from the ambient air and bodies.
Samantha Middleton     "Ugh, do you know how expensive those turrets are?" Actually pretty cheap! But for a teenager like her, they're very expensive! Sam doesn't like replacing them and now she's going to have to hunt around the battlefield for them. Worse, Fido is torn up, lots of plates sliced through and fluid leaking in joints, along with a hiss of escaping steam from the side! She manages to pinch that off before doing a jet-assisted leap as soon as there's an opening, leaving behind a few pieces of brass and steel before slamming herself into the middle of the group!
She doesn't know what Charity's plans are, but if she's going to see an opening, she'll use it to end this little threat!
Shin Tokuyama     Shin cracks his knuckles and stretches as he lights the bush on fire, "Yeah motherfucker. Teach you to burn me!" He says as he points at the bush and then picks his cell phone up off the ground. As he turns around to face the demon again... a spike grazes his side.

It slides through the side of Shin and digs a pretty deep gouge in the side of his ribcage and torso, causing the tanktop he's wearing to drench with blood and the martial artist to cringe a bit, hissing in pain, "Oooooowwwwwww..." He puts a hand to his side to compress the wound.

"Man, eat a bag of dicks, stupid bush demon." Shin adjusts his stance and grips his right hand into a fist while his left covers the wound. Shin steps in towards the barrier of spikes, his fist erupting into ki.

"Corkscrew..." He brings his fist forward and, just before impact with the spike, twists his fist and releases the ki right on impact. It creates a drilling spiral of energy that shatters through the spikes to try to blast a massive hole in the demon, "BLOW!"

Shin shakes his hand a bit, blood dripping from his knuckles.
Drustan Cynbel Drustan is tough, and he can take a fair beating without being deterred, but he's far from invincible and he knows it. That massive axe deserves to be dodged. Of course, the problem is that he's not that fast, and so takes it to his shoulder, which is followed by an unpleasant cracking sound and a series of creative swears involving the reproductive habits of what seems to roughly translate to 'burning terror of the mountains deep'

He pulls himself back up, and rather than re-engage the Orc Kong immediately, he finds the nearest still living enemy, and tries to wrap his fingers around its throat so he can suck out their life energy as well.
Charity Whiteheart     Slicing winds she can... handle. Though it hurts and leaves her bloodied, Charity is tougher than mere flesh and blood. Unfortunately there is another effect of trying to hold herself steady and concentrate all that power into her slashes, and that is... when the resistance is gone, Charity hurtles to the side and downward, smashing into the ground HARD. Hey, it helps keep her from getting cut to ribbons! It just does it by smacking her around in a different way.

Well, it gives her room to move. Checking on Samantha's progress, she decides the power-armored girl has that under control. Let's see about the big group in the middle. "Right then..." Diving under the ground, Charity does her standard tactic of resurfacing amidst the part of the battle she wants to go to... in this case, the orcs, where her daggers lash out again while she sizes up the big one.
Maya Maya is not quite done with the wolves yet it seems she's now just going to let htem have it they come at her, as they are fast and using wind magic? She's not sure but she does have the man to deal with them. The rifle fires again but this time the housing parts nad a beam emitter is there, it fires off a blinding blast and Maya keeps it up for a moment too try and sweep the wolcves but they are pressing her hard and she's still delaing with two on one. Maya is torn in to but it's not a fatal hit, she is bleeding though form the wound which has torn through her leather armour.
Velvet Crowe     Samantha slams down into the middle of the axebeaks, crushing one under her feet with ease. Now stuck in melee, they do what they tried doing to begin with: beak Samantha. There's only three of the birds left, which is much more manageable and easier to avoid. Those beaks are still nasty, though. It's easy to see why people would rely on the Abbey so much if every daemon is minorly superhuman like this.

Shin shouts an attack, drillpunching through the earth spikes. And the daemon behind them. Torn to shreds by the blow, there's not much left of the creature but vines and branches, and none of it's hostile anymore.

Drustan drains more life. If it works for Velvet, it works for the Darkbringer. Who needs a healer, right? The drained orc thumps to the ground, dead.

Charity closes in, downing the last of the still-standing regular orcs with ease, the pigman's body hitting the ground and remaining a pigman, in contrast to the ones Velvet just killed.

Maya's blinding shot makes the wolves back off. They howl, angrily, as they stagger and try to regain their vision. From there it really wouldn't be hard to finish the job, they're stunned and take bonus damage!

There in the middle, though, the Orc Kong is still unhappy. Its army is, well, decimated. Rather than go for someone with its axe, it lifts a heavy foot up, and then slams it into the ground. The resulting shockwave quakes the entire battlefield, daemons and heroes alike, earth shrapnel joining the blunt force of the shockwave. Velvet plants her daemonic arm into the ground like an anchor, unconcerned with the bruises and scratches from the flying chunks of stone.

Looking back towards Loegres, the exorcists seem agitated. Maybe it's the Orc Kong's big attack that caught their attention, but the sight of Velvet's arm from afar, glowing black and red like it does, seems to have riled Oscar up, and he's leading a small charge towards the group. He probably won't make it in time to help with the Orc Kong, but wind malakhim are enhancing their movement speed.
Shin Tokuyama     More than the bleeding knuckles, more than the oozing wound in his side, Shin is concerned about one thing and one thing only.

"Did she see?!" He asks himself aloud, turning left and right to see if Velvet was watching him. She was, of course, not watching him. She was way too concerned with, you know, the entire battle that happened to be going on at the time.

Shin, therefore, kind of just sits down on the ground to go through his backpack and try to pull out some first aid supplies. Mostly gauze, bandages, and rubbing alcohol so that he can pack up his wound.
Drustan Cynbel Trusting Velvet on her word that she can handle the Orc Kong, Drustan changes directions, he moves towards the incoming exorcists and stomps on the ground, kicking up a massive cloud of dust behind him, infused with Dark magic to keep it floating and further obscure the fight behind them. It might help give Velvet an escape route should she want one.

And if nothing else, denying them information will be good. With that done, the Darkbringer steps forward, flaming sword in hand, and he yells. "Exorcists, yer fight is wit' me, not th'lass. Back of or face th'wrath of the End of Light's Reign, the dreaded and terrible Darkbringer, whose every moment defies th'Archon o' Light." He calls out, loudly, "Th'lass is doin' yer job fer ye. Now, scram o' die at me hands."
Maya Maya takes out the wolves finally but she hears something on the radio. It's the one who caused the riot at the prison, the demon whose still far more lucid than the others if she recalls right. It seems she has help too, but Maya knows getting in a pitched battle wouldn't do much good. No she has other ways, Maya's a fairly powerful magic user but generally she focused upon the healing arts. To aid people, to support hem as it's rarer to find those who can protect and heal then not.

However as some in the Multiverse might recall Maya is far from just a healer and soon she's focusing power there's a spike in magical energy now, blue fire bleeds out of Maya's body to the point it might be noticed by others an unseen wind seems to be moving. The wolves are not forgotten about but she has a call to make and that lead demon can't be consumed. The wolves may get a free shot at her but that's the price she's going to pay.

"You shall not...be able to feed today Demon."

There's a conviction in Maya's voice like she's done this sort of thing before and come out on top. She says nothing else as the spell is weaved.

"ORUBOURS! BURN THIS THING FROM THE WORLD! DENY THE DEMON HER PRIZE!"

Maya's summoning something it won't remain here long but it doesn't need to do so a massive group of pillars appear bursting from the ground and a bubbling culdron full of magma appears as well and then comes an horrific cray as three things akin to a serpent and a worm rise up and begin to focus an inferno upon the Demon that Velvet desires to consume. She has no idea if she'll be able to pull it off but it's the best option she has. Once the spell finishes Maya will fade back in and the thing she summoned will have vanished. She's also open to attack too.
Samantha Middleton     Well that sucks... less than before. One of the axebeaks manages to CLANG on the side and get deflected, leaving a dent, but another wedges into Fido's arm and gets a faceful of steam! This sounds like it's a bad deal for the axebeak, but with the arm /again/ going limp and Samantha's very unladylike swearing, that was not such a great thing for Fido.
Good thing that the other arm is still fine! Swinging THAT in a wide arc to try to slam into the remaining Axebeaks, Samantha grumbles... and opens up with her autocannon. Might as well finish them off. This isn't what she had in mind, but these things kind of PISSED HER OFF!
Gawain In the distance, the grass starts rustling, the wind picking up as something blurs through the plains. For a moment, it can't be seen, but as it approaches the dirt caravan road which the Exorcists are marching along, the figure is made clear - a knight in radiant armor with a floral pattern over a fine medieval suit, a holy blade hilted at his side. Blonde hair and blue eyes, he radiates the image of 'classical knight'. The Malakhim and any others with spiritual senses would detect him first, as he is a spirit himself. The Knight of the Sun slides in front of the exorcists, not turning to face them, but smiling as he speaks. "Sir Dragonia, allow me to lend you my blade."

Sir Gawain faces those who would move to intercept the Exorcists - Charity Whiteheart and Drustan Cynbel, to be exact. His hand rests on his sword, and his Paladin emblem is noticable on his outfit. The sunlight practically shines off of his armor. "I cannot allow you to continue any further! You are protecting a dangerous and violent criminal, who slaughtered several in an escape solely for revenge, and who refuses to try and seek help. Miss Whiteheart, she even abducted you! Please turn aside and leave, and you will not be pursued." Despite his genuinely cheerful demeanor, Sir Gawain is quite serious in all regards - he has no intent to pursue them if they leave, but if they approach or prove threatening, he will indeed draw his blade. "If you believe us to want to execute Miss Crowe, you are quite mistaken. We only wish to help those afflicted of the daemonblight." I mean, most of the Abbey probably doesn't agree, but Gawain being Gawain, he /assumes/ that's what they want in the end.
Charity Whiteheart     Looks like Velvet's getting ht Orc Kong... and thus Charity is already moving toward Oscar to intercept. Right up until Gawain appears, thundering into the battle with some concern that is endearing, really. Charity, skimming along the ground at high speed, skids to a halt along the battle-soaked grass of the plain, knives twirling into readiness.

"You're a good kid, Gawain," she says. She doesn't know him THAT well, but has heard him spoken of by Mordred enough to get that much. "But that won't stop me from stabbing you if I have to. I guess I picked up a disease in that dungeon. I think they call it 'Stockholm Syndrome' or something. Could be fatal."

She readies her blades in a blocking maneuver, despite seeming like a swift fighter. "I don't want the Abbey anywhere near her. Maybe they CAN help her... but they won't. She's under my protection for now."
Velvet Crowe     Sorry Shin. Senpai is too busy trying to get to the boss to eat it. Because senpai has terminal tunnel vision. Keep trying, it shows your strength as a protagonist not to give up!

But speaking of that, Maya has quite the word to say. Flames engulf the Orc Kong and blast Velvet back, and before she can reach the massive gorilla of a daemon with her arm, struggling against the flames, it's gone, reduced to ash by the attack. Velvet growls angrily, and in a fit of rage slams her glowing arm into the nearby corpses of traders and fallen orcs-- pigmen and reverted farmers alike-- blasting the bodies into a fine mist that her arm just sort of drinks up like it's an elaborate set of straws. The burns inflicted by Maya heal rapidly, as do the wounds from the fight.

And then? Tunnel vision keeps happening.

    "Stupid... mindless... EXORCISTS!"

Angry Velvet dashes past Samantha (as she finishes rounding up the axebeaks and taking care of that mess). She is beelining for the exorcists. That is not a good thing.

At the DRAMATIC STANDOFF, Oscar is relieved Gawain arrived, but still very agitated and unhappy himself. Not that Gawain took the reins, actually he's rather fine with that all in all, but that he and his men's road is being blocked. He unsheathes his blade, the odd, rectangular, blue and silver flat sword pointed towards the two. "Please step aside. That mad daemon woman will bring ruin wherever she goes! Under your protection or not, we can't falter in our duties as exorcists."
Drustan Cynbel "I bring ruin wherever I go, too. I hate te say it, kid, but yer not exactly givin' me a good reason not to rip open yer belly an' feast on yer entrails." Drustan answers Oscar, he's feeling a bit dramatic today by the sounds of it, and he opens up his helmet to reveal a grey, pointy-eared face wearing a thin silver crown, and long grey hair. By the standards of around here, he should totally be a daemon.

And then he opens his eyes, and through magic trickery there's no eyes to be seen there, just deep pits of darkness that ought not be possible, and then Velvet rushes past him. "Eh, feck dis. If she wants to fight ye, I ain't gettin' in it."

Then he yells at Velvet, "Oy, hungry hand kid. If ye live, call fer me an' we'll talk."
Samantha Middleton     The heavy stomp of Fido's foot crushes the last Axebeak, and Samantha pants softly after the exertion of the battle. The cyborg girl has to move some of the armor's systems manually, so it gets pretty tiring even with the power armor! She does all this just in time to see Velvet dashing past her. Uh oh. "VELVET NO!"
Jets fire again, one of them sputtering befoe catching. Fido's pretty damaged! The armor rockets after Velvet, reaching for her. "They're doing this so you can get AWAY! Fighting now is a bad idea!" She reaches and grabs with the pincher on the suit at... Velvet's monstrous arm!
This doens't make her scream or anything, but Velvet will sure feel that she's draining the girl through the suit.
Gawain As Charity stops, and begins talking at Gawain, he keeps that expression. But quickly, it turns into one of shock and worry, as he speaks into his radio. "Stockholm Syndrome? Fatal?! You need to see a doctor, immediately, Miss Whiteheart!" His tone is entirely serious, though he allows Oscar to continue talking, keeping his hand on his blade. "Miss Whiteheart, we may be able to help you as well. But if you refuse, I will have to fight you to preserve order. That is not my wish, please understand." The shcok wipes off as he smiles, and then, suddenly, draws his blade...

And moves to angle towards Velvet, taking a defensive position. The sword lights aflame, as Gawain shouts towards Velvet. "Velvet Crowe, stop what you're doing! This isn't worth it!"
Charity Whiteheart     "Shit," Charity mutters. Well, she's not going to leave Velvet to get steamrolled by the army either. Eyes dart toward Oscar, still farther away than Gawain, then back to Gawain. A Servant is not someone she can take lightly... but Gawain seems a bit gullible. Maybe...

"Let Velvet go," she says, taking a ready stance. "If we can convince her to go, let her go or you fight me. I trained with Mordred, remember. She taught me all your moves, all your tricks. I know everything about you, and you know nothing about how I fight. This won't go well for you."

Yeah, it's a bluff and it relies on Samantha pulling Velvet back.
Velvet Crowe     Oscar is about to retort something angry and poorly thought out to Drustan when he spots, still somewhat out of reach, Velvet charging their way. Then she gets stopped by... one of the girls who helped stop the jailbreak? Samantha, right? That doesn't seem to do much to pacify the praetor though.

Way back there, Velvet's arm clamps into Samantha's, completely of its own accord, and does start drinking up. Due to this, she doesn't reply to Drustan (but did hear him!). Velvet stops, glaring Samantha down, but doesn't withdraw the arm. She just angrily demands, "Let go. Let go or I'll do to you what I'll do to them!"

Now Gawain is chiming in too. And Charity. Oscar grits his teeth. For the sake of being a good liaison, he looks at Gawain to see what decision the Servant will take.

Samantha, though, might need more effort to 'convince' Velvet. Or a good punch and a rope back to her airship. She should probably think fast before that arm actually leaves a mark.
Samantha Middleton     Wow this... doesn't feel good. It's only just started, too! Samantha is NOT a fan of this feeling at all, and whimpers softly when she feels it. Yeah, yeah, she knows she's supposed to grit her teeth and bear it, but sometimes you just gotta whine. But Fido doesn't let go. In fact...
The front of the armor hisses, and the door opens up in front. A clockwork hand reaches out, grabbing Velvet with the goal of just... YANKING her in to smack her head against the rim of the metal armor, and in the process tug Samantha out!
"Quick, help me shove her in!" She has no idea if that worked, but she's relying on at least a few seconds of the woman being stunned. Maybe with help she can shove Velvet into the armor.
Drustan Cynbel When Velvet starts feeding on his allies, Drustan sighs and refrains from leaving like he had intended to, "'m sorry, kid, but that's an ally o' mine yer eatin', an' I cannae let ye do that." And thus he rests a hand on the shoulder opposite the daemon hand, and starts draining to help with the knocking out. Then, he gives a shove to help Samantha take her away.

"Ye take 'er somewhere safe an' sound, and make sure ye don't lock 'er up. Ah'll be comin' wi' ye, still want to talk to 'er in case she'll listen after this. If she don't, jest let 'er leave. Ya got that?" Drustan instructs Samantha, and then he waves towards Gawain and Oscar, "Oy, we'll be goin' now, have a nice day an' don't get yerself killed doin' something stupid like picking fights with me."
Velvet Crowe     Velvet gets her head slammed into metal, and before she can engage Samantha in a battle of who can shout loudest at the other person, Drustan yanks her arm and does to her what she does to other people. This results in Velvet passing out, her arm retracting into its human shape and size as bandages cover it up again. It's not hard to shove her into Fido after that. She'll be out for a few minutes to a hour, but that's long enough to get her out and... probably back into 'her' room at Charity's place, that might be the sanest option so she doesn't flip out when she wakes up.

... flip out more than she usually does.

Oscar is conflicted, but ultimately lets Gawain take the decision. At least he'll be able to report that several dozen daemons are dead, including a big one, which was handily denied to Velvet.
Gawain As Charity gives her bluff, Gawain blinks. His stare and tighter grip on his sword makes it apparent that he believes her, but he quickly just sighs and laughs. "Even if you know all my techniques, even if you can defeat me in a single well-placed strike, even if you will no matter win this fight...I cannot surrender out of fear of losing. I am both a knight and a Paladin, and I will pursue my duties even if it kills me, Miss Whiteheart!" As she was the one challenging him, Gawain turns his blade away from Velvet and towards Charity...but he doesn't move to strike. It's very clear from his mannerisms that he'll allow her to take the first move, out of respect. However, when the others flee with Velvet, and even if Charity joins them, Gawain will move to begin dashing after them, before halting on his feet, flicking his sword in his hand, and putting out the fire.

"I apologize, Sir Dragonia, but it appears we were not able to capture her. If we proceeded, we wouldn't know what we'd be going up against, and I do not want to force that upon you and your men, especially when there may still yet be survivors out here! In the future, I will try harder to assist you, I promise on my honor." And for a knight, that is a big thing, as Gawain turns and kneels to Oscar, before standing up, grinning, and moving towards the site of the battle. Time to look for survivors!
Charity Whiteheart     Charity is, in fact, going to chase after the others... but not before answering Gawain. "Heh. I wish more of our knights were like you," she comments. "But where Mordred taught me battle, Fairchild taught me the importance of... not showing your trump card too early... and of focusing on the mission objective."

As Gawain moves, she makes a quick slash at the ground, wind channeled to hurl up a bast of earth and pebbles. It's just cover, though, so she can dive under the earth for her own escape plan, surfacing nearby(she can't phase for too long) to dash off in another direction.
