Toph Beifong     One thing that Toph thought was rather interesting was when she figured out that Aang's reincarnation was somebody so unlike himself. As she also likes the next Avatar in the cycle, it's easy enough to make a decision on behalf of her two friends... Korra and Sokka /has/ to meet one another. Sure, Korra might know who Sokka is, considering he's from the same tribe as her, and well... people /ought/ to know who Sokka is anyway. So she had invited the Avatar over to Malibu, stating that she should come on over for lunch and sparring with her and Sokka. And Sokka? Well, he wasn't told all the details. Just that a female friend of hers would be stopping by. It would be way funnier to observe his reaction when he figures out that Korra is the Avatar, after all.

The beach in Malibu has been prepared. An earthbended table serves as a good place to sit, and Toph has set out some cold drink and such. Sokka had gone out to pick up food they had ordered since the waiting time was so long, and well... Korra ought to arrive soon. For now Toph lounges in the sand, idly bending some of it into various figures and just relaxing.
Korra     Well, of /course/ Korra knew about Sokka - but she knew a lot about her previous incarnation and his life, it just... got a little weird, what with all the time traveling and dimensions sticking together and wibbly wobbly stuff. And as it was - she was mostly still hanging out with Tenzin and the rest of the remaining Airbenders.

But well - it was hard to keep up with all the changes in this amazing universe. Having acquired 'permission' - because Tenzin knew she was going to leave anyways, even if he forbade her - Korra was off to Malibu!

And she had spent a good portion of the morning shopping, as it was. So when Korra arrives - surfing on a wave of waterbending, she had a glint of mischief in her eyes as she 'lands' at the beach, lifting her hand up in a wave to the others. Or... just... Toph, for now. And waving? Well... she immeadiately regrets that. "Hi, Toph!" she calls. She was wearing a hawaiian shirt over her traditional Water Tribe gear. Not to mention a pair of sunglasses.
Toph Beifong     The sound of waterbending doesn't escape Toph, and she pushes her upper body a bit where she lies. "Ah, heya Twinkle Toes... been a long time since last!" She can understand the Avatar being busy and all that. Heck, the last time they met was at the opening of her metalbending academy, wasn't it? "Finally managed to sneak off to have some fun, huh? Sokka will probably be back with the food in not too long," she states as she gets up to her feet. Perhaps it's a good thing that she can't see what Korra is wearing...

"Grab yourself something to drink, and we can eat once Sokka gets his ass back here. You didn't bring Naga today?" Toph asks. The polar bear dog is fun, and somewhat less stinky than Appa is. Either way she picks up a soda can herself, opening it with metalbending since it's quicker and easier.
Sokka Sokka suddenly came walking around the corner, a bag in his hands. "Hey, Toph, you'll never believe it! They were selling barbaque pork belly on sale! Can you believe it? I bought like ten pounds of it!" Along with the other junk food he ate. All that protein, man, was amazing he wasn't ripped.

However, as he walked over, his eyes fell on Korra and he grinned. "Why, hello." And once close enough, he'd take her hand, gently place a kiss on it. "Toph told me one of her friends were coming, I had no idea she'd be so cute," he said with a wink. Ah, Flirty Sokka. And hey, considering what he seemed to know about most the girl's Toph's age, most of them could use a little attention! But seriously, Toph hung out with a lot of people with self esteem issues. Though he imagined with a friend like Toph, having self esteem issues was easy.

Of course, before Toph could get too jealous, he let Korra go and gave her a big hug... Followed by a kiss. Why? Because, as flirty as he may be, Toph was still his number one girl who he adored so very much. He then glanced back and... looked her up and down. There was a confused look on his face as he just stared.

"Wait... you actually look kind of familiar... do you have a sister in the southern water tribe? Cause I mean, if your hair was just a little..." He rubbed his chin, trying to figure it out. Something about her just... struck him a odd.
Korra     "Not this time, not this time," says Korra jovially. "I figured she would get hot on these beaches - and - well - I wanted to try out a different way of gettin' around you know? Besides... these markets? Way too small for someone like Naga. Have you /seen..." A pause. "Have you /been/ to the markets here, Toph? You can find all kinds of things!"

Korra enthuses. But that's what you get when you're stuck in a place like the air temple for a while. Brushing out her ponytail a bit - how she managed to keep everything perfect with all this bending was anyone's guess.

And then there was Sokka. The young man looked vaguely familiar - but she quirks her eyebrow at what he says. And then that meeting turns into a kiss. On her hand, thank heaven.

"Yeah, hello there," she says. "Are you North Water tribe? I'm Korra, the..." There was a hug then. Alright... Korra's eyes kinda flicker towards Toph, her brow furrowing deeper with a 'please help me' kinda look.

"So uh... right. I'm Korra - the Avatar. Nice to meet you?" she says, still sounding a little uncertain. She brings her hand up, offering a shake instead.
Toph Beifong     "That makes sense," Toph responds as to why Korra left Naga behind. And when Korra misspeaks Toph can't help but snicker a bit. "Of course I've been to the markets around here, I've lived here for years now!"

Ah, there the cavalry arrives with culinary reinforcements! Toph visibly perks up with Sokka arrives. Though she does arch an eyebrow. "Ten pounds...? I guess we'll have to get dad and mom to help eat it up then..." she muses. And then sets the food on the table while Sokka says hi to Korra in his usual suave way. Okay, this seems to be enough food... "At least we will have leftovers like this," she says, opening the cartons and boxes. When Sokka walks over to give her a hug and a kiss she turns her head towards Sokka to repay the kiss. And then the fun starts when both of them start to wonder about the other, huh?

"Nah, Sokka is from the Southern Water tribe," Toph explains. And then Korra outright says it, which makes Toph turn her attention to Sokka and his incoming reaction...
Sokka Sokka chuckles. "Snrk, really? I guess they got a prettier girl to play him this time," he joked.

Then... blinked. Stared. His eyes went wide. "Wait. You're serious. You're the new--" and the look of horror as he envisioned Aang's face on that body. More horror when he envisioned HER face on aang's body. then the final look of horror when he realized -he kissed her hand-. "AGH!" And started wiping her mouth and scowled at Toph. "Why didn't you warn me? This is the new Aang? What if I'd kissed her?!" he snapped, then cringed. "Err, no offense. err..." Then... he blinked. "Wait, you must be from the future then, right?" His eyes lit up. "Oh my gosh! You've met me then, right? What am I? Am I awesome? Did I teach you how to use a boomerang? Are me and old toph still buddies? Am I a legendary warrior? Heh, I bet by then I must have a couple kids and grand kids, right?" he asked with a smirk, nodding.
Korra     "No, no, I think we can handle it. I mean... that's five pounds for me, four pounds for you..." says Korra to Toph. "...and one for Sokka, right?" says Korra with a wryness, glancing up towards Sokka with a grin - and a waver of her hand. The kiss, well... "Huh," Korra says, glancing between the two.

At the joke - play him? The wheels in Korra's head were turning, although she still hadn't arrived back at the previous generation for Sokka. At least until he says the word 'Aang' - but that only happens when...

So Korra cants her head to the side, staring confusedly at Sokka. "Why would you kiss a girl you never met!" Korra protests, pointing in Sokka's direction.

"I uh... I've seen you around." says Korra, though, shifting from foot to foot. What did she remember of Sokka? "You were... kinda... old?" Korra says, kinda scrunching her face up like that. "And she probably didn't warn you because of that reaction - that one, right there."
Toph Beifong     Yup, Toph is grinning where she stands next to Sokka, and she punches him hard in the arm. "Hah, your reaction was priceless, Meat Head!" she explains. "And it's not like she's a guy, you know... stop being a baby! I mean, the Avatar has been female before too, it's not like the Avatar is automatically a guy. If you had kissed her it wouldn't have made you gay or something." So toughen up! "Korra is from a future version of our world of course, I haven't asked too much about what it's like." Because why would she want to do that? All she knows is that she becomes chief of police there and she has a daughter.

"So are you two going to get your asses in the seats so we can eat, or are you going to leave all the meat to me?" she asks, sitting down in one of the bended chairs.
Sokka Sokka stared, blinking and... you could see the light die in his eyes. "Oh," he said. Yeah, he was old. Had been seen around. Yeah, he knew exactly what that meant. He gave a sigh and sat at the table, by Toph.

Awwww, his spirits were all crushed. Why? Because it seemed, even in the future, he was still just the back ground character to their awesome. "Yeah, let's eat. I got some really good stuff, too! So, Korra, what brings you down here? Toph training you how to properly earth bend, or she going to make a metal bender out of you?" he asked with a chuckle.
Korra     "You never kissed Aang before?" says Korra to Sokka, allowing a wide grin to dance upon her lips. A handful of moments, and Korra looks between Toph and Sokka proper. There was play on her voice. Laughter comes from her, and she goes to fill a mug full of drink, moving to kinda slide into one of the available seats. "You're kinda pushy sometimes, you know that, Toph?"

    Korra was teasing a bit.

But the effect of what she had said to Sokka was remaining. She kinda looks over towards Sokka, canting her head to one side. "I just... got a little bit of free time. I was over in some other realm - fighting in a martial arts tournament for a while. I didn't win, but..." A beat, and Korra sighs. Waving a hand dismissively, she furrows her brow tightly. "Why not relax with Toph? And uh... maybe we can talk about metal-bending some?" asks Korra, glancing across towards Toph with her clear blue eyes.
Toph Beifong     "Hey, if I wasn't pushy I wouldn't have gotten where I am today, Twinkle Toes," Toph points out. "And I dunno, Sokka and Aang are buddies, but..." If they ever get THAT close Toph would seriously wonder, since both of them have expressed interest in only girls. Aang is all head over heels for Katara, and well... the earlier kiss Sokka gave her doesn't exactly make her doubt things.

She picks up some of the food and holds it out for Sokka to take, then she begins putting some of the various food onto her plate. "Everybody needs free time now and then, yeah." Hmm, so Korra didn't win? Strange... "And I can't blame you, relaxing here in Malibu is always good. Even if it's a bit noisy nowadays after Tony and Pepper had that baby brother of mine," she points out, not without a slight smile.

The mention of metalbending doesn't escape her notice, and the blind teenager arches an eyebrow. Oh right, they did talk about that, didn't they? "Sure, if you're ready for it." With that Toph kicks her foot into the ground, causing some of the sand on the beach to shoot up... and land next to Korra's plate. "First of all, can you bend that sand into rock?"
Sokka Sokka glanced over and snickered. "Heh. Is this gonna be a repeat of rock beats earth bender? Trust me, kid, Toph doesn't care if you're the Avatar. She'll ride you harder than any teacher you've ever had and if you mess up, she'll make -sure- you know it." He paused. "Though, hey, there's no better teacher. She kicks butt."

Then a wide grin. "So trust me, in the end, it'll really... rock. Just be careful, make her mad and she'll make you gravel before her for mercy. Which she has none." Oh gosh and now the puns started.
Korra     "Yeah? I didn't realize that Tony and Pepper were havin' kids - is that what you and Sokka are going to end up doing, one of these days?" There was a little grin at the edge of Korra's lips.

Taking a long swig of drink, Korra accepts the plate of food after Toph fills it up, starting to eat with a steady cadence, her eyes flickering between the other two. She grins, a little too widely. Except when that bit of beach lands by her plate. "Hey! When I'm done eating?"

Korra pauses a moment, her eyes narrowing. And with a /STOMP/ beneath the table - a hunk of sand comes up and plops next to Toph's plate. Another moment, and she concentrates, though - focusing on the hunk of sand Toph sent over.

And - with a mouthful of meat, she sways on top of the bench - miming the sturdy motions of the Earthbending... and the hunk of sand turns into a rock.

A beat. "Kid? Are you sure you can call me that? And..."

    "...are...were... those puns?" she says.
Toph Beifong     "Well, considering Pepper was huge as a turtle seal and there's a baby screeching in there at times," Toph says while jerking a thumb up towards the house on the cliffside, "I'm pretty certain they are biological parents now." Though when Korra teases her and Sokka about whether they are going to end up having kids, Toph arches an eyebrow, her expression deadpan. "Maybe. In a decade I might consider it."

When the sand lands near Korra's plate and the Avatar has such a reaction, Toph can't help but snort. "What? Here I thought you said you knew how to earthbend! Bend the sand out if you're so finicky about it!" she chastises the other girl. The moment Korra bends her own sand up towards the table, Toph is already moving her arm, deflecting the sand with a quick motion. Hah, she was prepared for that! "Yeah, Sokka loves puns, it's kinda his deal. Funny, your previous incarnation liked them."

Okay, onto metalbending... "Since you can bend sand I assume that you can sense the earth in it. That's basically how you metalbend. Sense the earth in the metal." Here Toph slips off the metal armlet on her left arm, then tosses it over towards Korra. "Try it on this."
Sokka Sokka sighs, face palming. "Toph, Katara, can you--" Paused. Blinked a few times. "Wow. Deja vu. Can you NOT do the whole bending thing at the dinner table? Unlike SOME of you, some of us can't bend and are reallllllly tired of being the 'terrain' in these little practices of your guys." Yes, mayyyybe he's a little bitter. Or maybe he's had a few too many meals ruined by his sister and girl friend duking it out at the dinner table. And ruining his precious meat. Paused.

"And no tossing me fifty feet into the air again, Toph. Or no kissy face later!" he added quickly. Awww, already ruining her fun.
Korra     "You're going to take it slow, right?" says Korra, kinda leaning forward and narrowing her eyes in response to Toph. Although she was /sure/ she couldn't see - she wasn't /unsure/, either. Reaching out a hand to catch the armlet, Korra twists it around in her hand, glancing from it, to Toph, to back again.

"Yeah. I can... uh... sense the metal in there. I mean the earth. It's just..." Eyes narrow a bit further. "... hollow? Feeling?" she says. Setting it on the table in front of her, she motions - just like Earthbending, but...

    Nothing happens.

Swallowing her hunk of meat, she takes another bite - and tries again. A handful of moments more, and... nothing happens.

Korra lifts her chin, as if glaring over towards Sokka. "...it's important. It's half the reason why I'm here!" she says. As if Sokka was the whole reason this thing wasn't working out.
Toph Beifong     As Sokka complains Toph can't help but smirk a little, but she does lean over and punches Sokka in the side. "I'll protect your meat, don't worry. And you can't stop benders from bending, you know that!"

So Korra doesn't get it right away. Which isn't unexpected, really. "If you can sense the earth, then you can do it," is what Toph says, shrugging as she picks up her food and begins eating it. "What do you feel when you pick up regular earth? What did you feel when you bended that sand into a rock? Compare those feelings." It's better if she realises how to do it fully on her own, after all. If you tell people too much they won't get that dawning epiphany which makes it easier to understand /why/ you do things a specific way. Besides, Korra is the Avatar. And one who figured out how to bend most of the elements from an early age. Aang couldn't learn this, she /tried/ teaching him... but maybe Korra can?
Sokka Sokka nodded, grumbling a little as he ate his meal. He then blinked and gave a shrug. "Hey, no need to get mad. Besides, you're like, the Avatar. That makes you the second toughest person in your world." Pause. "After Toph." He gave her a knowing grin.

"And trust me, I spent years hanging out with Aang. Most of it good. Some of it annoying. But you guys are pretty awesome, if anyone can do it, one of you guys can. And you don't have the whole 'being a natural air bender' thing that Aang did, so no handicap." He then paused. "Huh. Though, I don't think I ever saw Aang lightning bend, either. I wonder if Avatars can't learn the sub groups of bending? Maybe it just... bends them out of shape too much," he said with a wide grin. "It'd be pretty shocking if he could lightning, though." Super wide grin.
Korra     Korra sets her jaw at an angle, glaring down from Sokka back to the armlet. A beat, and she sighs. "So - have you been to any wars lately, Toph? Or even you, Sokka? Or are you just enjoying the... quieter life now?" she says, pursing her lips - she huffs out a snort, as if she could bend the armlet by her will alone. Or her glare alone.

Nothing happens, and it was obvious the Avatar was becoming more and more frustrated by the moment, and finally...

Korra leans up and back, huffing out a sigh towards the heavens. That last pun earns Sokka another glance. A beat, and the edge of her lip tugs up. "Opposites do attract sometimes..." she says. Lifting her arms over her head, her shoulders pop with a series of little stretches then. "I'll work on this later?" she says, picking up the armlet - and giving it a little toss over towards Toph again.
Toph Beifong     As Sokka keeps on teasing Korra, Toph does intervene. She elbows him /hard/ in the side, her expression serious. "She got it, genius. Now eat some of the meat, okay?" Though she does arch an eyebrow at Korra when she jabs one back. "As a matter of fact, we are fighting on a regular basis now that we're in the Paladins. After Aang stopped the Firelord I kept on fighting in the Union and helped other worlds. As a matter of fact, I punched a tyranical king once. I got his crown and scepter on display in my room." She leans back in her chair, looking rather relaxed as she speaks between bites. "Nothing wrong with enjoying some quiet life now and then though, I try to visit dad and mom here every weekend unless I'm needed on a mission. It's easier with the warp gates."

Korra earns a nod when she states she will work more on learning metalbending later, and Toph grabs the armlet easily mid air as the Avatar tosses it towards her. "Okay, I can give you a demonstration. Close your eyes while you eat, and I'll bend it." With that Toph stuffs the food into her mouth, then she takes the armlet into her hands as she begins bending it into various shapes, slowly. And while she does so she leans into Sokka's side, chewing and swallowing the food in her mouth. "Hand me something more to eat, Meat Head?"
Sokka Sokka snickered and gave a nod. And then... for maximum oogie, he fed her.

With a kiss. It probably tasted a bit good. "How's that?" he teased. Wide grin. He then glanced to Korra. "Actually, Toph has been kicking butt in the multiverse for a while now. I'm still kinda new to all this stuff, mostly I just get shot and stabbed a lot," he said with a shrug. "And now, the quieter life is boring." There was an odd little edge to his voice when he said that.

He then glanced to the metal and chuckled. "Yeah, Toph's been teaching her students pretty well now. You better work hard, Korra. You don't wanna be out paced by a guy who goes by dark heart, or whatever he calls himself," he teased.
Korra     Korra does close her eyes, washing down her bite of meat with a bit of the drink. "Yeah? What are the Paladins? I think I was... occupied when that stuff started happening. Last I remember there was... other things going on." says Korra, bringing up a hand to brush her hair out of her eyes, kinda bringing a leg up to hike against the bench.

She was reaching out to the earth in the metal, feeling it - her features scrunching up in thought.

She heard the kiss, though, her nose scrunching up. "You guys are a little gross, by the way." she says. "And I'll never be outpaced! I'm the Avatar!" she says, strongly.
Toph Beifong     As Sokka decides to feed her the oogie way, Toph can't help but roll her eyes a little bit, though she doesn't complain audibly. And she focuses on what he and Korra are saying next instead of making a big deal out of it. "The Paladins are a multiversal group that focuses on upholding local laws to maintain order. Basically, we're cops. The Union and the Confederacy were forcefully disbanded about... four months ago. Man, the time flies by quickly..." she muses.

The metal shifts slightly, ever so slowly as Toph works on bending it for Korra so the other girl can get a chance to at least grasp how it's done. When it's said that she and Sokka are gross, Toph nods. "I know. It's part of being oogie and all, and Sokka is... well, affectionate," Toph states with a shrug as she bends the armlet into a polar bear dog figurine.
Sokka Sokka nodded, glancing to Korra. "Yeah. Honestly, I still suspect they were desperate enough to get Toph that they accepted me, too," he joked. Mmmm, only partially lying this time. He's improving. "Oh, I don't know. Aang was amazing but he got out paced in a lot of things. Korra was a way better water bender, Toph was an amazing earth bender. And I was definitely better at flirting than he was." Wink.

"So, what's the world with you like? We finally got some peace, or are the other worlds making problems? And I'd love to see what you can do some time. I bet you're pretty awesome, being an Avatar and all. Can you do all four elements now?"
Korra Korra leans forward, finally opening her eyes - matching the 'feel' of metalbending that Toph was doing to her eyes. A beat, and Korra grins. "It's a little Naga!" she coos. "You do like-..." Korra stops that train of thought before it fully leaves the station. Korra clears her throat.

Some might say she 'paws'ed.

"That's what you do, I suppose, when you have a boyfriend. You get oogie with 'em," says Korra, sounding a bit wishy washy on that matter. Or maybe it was just in relation to Sokka, as she gives that man kinda a sideeye. But Sokka says what he does, and Korra leans forward a little more.

"I was bending in three elements by the age of /four/," she says. A beat. "And airbending took me like a day, once Tenzin showed me what was going on with that." Korra /miiiight/ be sounding a little haughty on her side of the table.

"I've mostly been stuck training - I was doing some work for the Union, back in the day, but they stopped sending communications - I guess I know why now," she says, looking towards Toph. A beat.

"So I'm thinking of 'graduating' from Tenzin's care, and kinda... starting to do my own thing, now that I have a little more time to do that, you know?"
Toph Beifong     "Of course they wanted me to join them, one of them showed up here and practically begged me to. And then they asked Sokka too," she asides with a big grin. Of course she had been pissed at Lloyd at the time, but eh... it worked out.

"Aang is more the spiritual type, really.... all talking, yakkety yak yak blah blah blah," Toph states, mimicking talking with her free hand and a bored look on her face. "Maybe that's why he had such problems with learning earthbending. I swear, you should have seen it, Twinkle Toes!" It was hilarious in hindsight. It's a bit different with Korra. And when the other girl is surprised at the little Naga figurine, Toph can't help but grin. "Hey, she's no badgermole, but eeeh she's not bad. You should check it out sometime, Sokka... Korra has a polar bear dog!"

It's no wonder why Korra hasn't received word from the Union considering there's no more Union. Toph bends the metal back into her armlet, then slips it back on as Korra reveals her plans. "So... is there anything specific you have to do in your world now? Any unrest going on, any Fire Lords rising up again?" What /is/ Korra's thing? Certainly there's something she needs to do in order to fullfill her duty as the Avatar.
Sokka Sokka let out a low whistle. "Really? The age of four? Dang, you must have been some kind of prodigy," he said with a grin. "It took Aang a whole year to master the other three, guess you wanted to put him to shame, eh?" he said with a chuckle.

"Well, if you feel like self-training for a while, why not? Toph taught herself and she's the best bender in our world. And that's including Aang and my sister. She's just always been really grounded, though. So if you wanna go out and see the world, why not? Heck, even before we met, Aang had already traveled all over the world and seen all kinds of things. Now there's a whole multi-verse for you to learn from." Pause, then grin. "And have fun with. Tell me, you ever try paintball?"

Then his eyes lit up. "Really? A polar bear dog? Oh man, I used to have one of those! but then, well, when they left and..." He went silent for a moment. "Maybe she's supposed to just be a chill-vatar. Stars know we dealt with enough grief when we had to help Aang out, maybe the cycle needs a break."
Korra There was Toph, reminding her of her duty. Everyone seemed to like doing that. For a moment, Korra glances over towards Toph, before releasing the greatest sigh in the galaxy. "I would have liked to meet him," says Korra. A handful of moments more, and she brings up a hand to scratch the side of her own nose. "Except... I can't, I guess. Ever." A beat.

The whole bragging about learning airbending so fast was a little exaggerated - Korra was more like the earth - and well... air... was a whole other story. "I shoulda brought her along." says Korra, adjusting her hawaiian shirt atop her traditional waterbending clothes. "I just was afraid she'd roast to death in this tropical heat."

A languid sigh. "I need to... well... there's Republic City. There's a lot of people who are against benders now, even going so far as to kill them, you know?" A beat. "And Tenzin keeps telling me I need to pay more attention to the spiritual side of being an avatar, but... there's /way/ too much going on in the multiverse, you know?" says Korra.

Best bender in the world? It was obvious that Korra thought otherwise, with that little smirk she gives, but she inclines her head towards Sokka, not verbally trying to talk bad about it. "...paintball? What's that?"
Sokka Sokka blinked. "Why can't you meet him? I mean, he's still alive. Time travel and all that. Ohhhhh. I should try to meet myself from your time line! I bet I have a ton of stories to tell." He paused. "So, did Toph and I hook up there? I mean, I know Toph had a lot of trouble telling me, but I'm sure she told me eventually, right?" Oh dear.

"And eh, there's always something to do, Korra," he said with a shrug. "Do you think Aang was constantly doing stuff? Nahhhhh. He took days off. We had one year to get this done and half the time it was me trying to get him to stop slacking off and enjoying some weird bear rhino dance thing. So don't worry about taking a few days off, world won't end without you."

Though, that last thing gave him pause. "Wait, what? Why would someone wanna kill benders? Heck, some of them are jerks, but most of them are pretty awesome! And paintball is just fun. It's running around and hitting people with paint."
