Asellus     Yorkland could charitably be called 'rural'. There's a small town here that has grown up around the local industry of alcohol manufacture, and there's a millionaire who has their mansion here for some reason, but other than that and a private facility owned by Trinity, there's not much to speak of. It's sprawling wilderness, mainly swamps. And to call those swamps monster-infested would be a gross understatement. Even Yorkland's famous Liquor Shrine is nearly unreachable due to the dense concentrations of monsters, particularly the much-loathed Frill Neck lizards. However, rumors speak of even more dreadful creatures lying in wait, drawn out when someone strong enough causes a commotion and wakes them.

And now, those rumors seem to be verified, because a pair of dragons have been seen flying around, a red one and a black one, and that's enough to terrify a smallish settlement like the one here in Yorkland, without any significant military or defenses aside from Trinity.

And good luck getting Trinity to lift a finger if they aren't directly affected, even if it means watching Yorkland burn to the ground. As such, adventuring types are desired to drive out or eliminate the dragons!
Leyanne Leyanne is one of those who's arrived to help drive out the Dragons. Although it looks like something of a miracle that the Martian is even on her feet, never mind ready to fight; even with new armour on and a replaced arm, it's obvious that, fairly recently, the mouse has taken something *naaasty*; Around her left eyesocket the bare metal-plated bones of her skull are actually exposed, for the moment, giving her a slightly Terminator-like appearance. She's also got a slight, but noticeable limp, and she's on foot. She's not doing any parkour, or parasailing, or anything stupid like that. She's just walking towards Yorkland, carrying what looks like a magazine-fed harpoon gun, or some kind of 18th-century harmonica cannon.
Theurgus     Theurgus has had to return to Locus for important business, Charta refused to activate Resource Upload until she returned to do her actual job.

Fortunately for Yorkland, at least one DCC has arrived, shuffling her cards and striding confidently to the quest marker, the faces of each card flashing a symbol and a glint of the magic held within.

Arcana isn't as strong as her Big Sister, but she is still Digital Divinity. After finishing her shuffle, the young Drive Core Controller summons a long silver spike from her inventory, holding it one handed as her sword manifests on her belt.
Asellus     The path from the Region Ship port leads past a secure facility surrounded by high fences, with a checkpoint. Though there's a couple guards, neither of them seems like they are about to go rushing off to fight dragons. They just watch Leyanne and Arcana pass by and do nothing else. Beyond that point, there's an intersections with three paths. One leads to the brewery area, based off the smell, the other must be the town based on the fact there are people and horses visible along the road and they wouldn't be there if there were monsters, and the final path is overgrown and goopy with swamp ooze, so it's probably there that the swamp lies.
Leyanne Leyanne probably gets there a short while before Arcana, leaning against the fence to wait to see if anyone else turns up.

Even from far away, she looks like crap, and it only gets worse as she gets closer. Of course, anyone who watches the news will know why; during the End of the Line race (She refuses to call it the Gigamesh Grand Prix), the mouse wiped out in truly spectacular style at superluminal speed, bouncing down the hyperglass before being rescued by Corona. Amongst other things, she's got one *hell* of a case of road rash.

When the DCC shows up, the tall Martian gives her a wave, her harpoon gun butt-down on the ground resting against her leg.
Theurgus     Arcana looks over at Leyanne. "I'll take point. My speciality is close-range combat." she comments, indicating her sword, but making no regard of the spike, or the holder full of cards on her belt. As the path splits, she looks between the three ways, then confidently strides off down the one toward the Swamp, drawing her sword and limming the blade with unaspected magical power, casting a dull glow that cycles through the six colours of System magicks, leading the way. "Stay behind me, you look worse than an LDF Sturmhait after fighting a swarm of Poochooze.
Leyanne Leyanne chuckles to Arcana. "I feel it. Never, ever, wipe out when you're going above C. it won't end well, trust me."
Asellus     The swamp is quite swampy. It is overgrown with foliage, deep pools of murky water, mud, insects buzzing around, vines, small elevations in the terrain that, when paired with hidden dips, create significant physical obstacles, and there are, of course, lots and lots of monsters. However, where usually there would be Frill Necks barricading every path, acting as freaking ambush lizards along every route that really can not be 100% avoided no matter how careful one is, they are now scattered around near the edges, leaving the two biggest and newest monsters out in the open.

They are very easy to find, thanks to the heavy breathing of such monstrously large creatures that sends ripples through water, air, and earth equally. The heat of the red dragon in particular sets the already steaming swamp to veritably roasting. There's a black dragon around here somewhere too. It's probably near the red one. If they can get close to the big, horned, scaley menace, it'll probably come into view.
Leyanne Leyanne stays behind Arcana, hefting up her spear gun. At least her ability to weild heavy guns isn't hindered. A Frill Neck nearly gets speared but when it doesn't attack, she doesn't fire. She keeps on moving towards the dragon, muttering When she hears the sound it makes, she peers over in that direction. "That sounds like the right way." She loads her speargun with a loud CHACK-CLUNK.
Theurgus     Arcana keeps moving, eyes tracking across the Frill Lizards, noting them but making sure the pair moves through the area, giving them a wide enough berth so the monsters don't aggro.

Working in a computer system where some Viruses don't engage unless you approach them first, she knows how to work that aggro range deal. Though the world shaking breathing makes her grip the Relay a little tighter. "I believe you are correct... I will need to anchor the Relay before we engage, so I can use my Divinity Driver." she comments

When the red scaled beast comes into view, she slams the Relay down into a reasonably solid looking piece of ground and radios over. "Charta. Begin Upload!" then she bursts into a run towards the Dragon, intoning an imperative. "ACCESS!"

She leaps, and midleap transforms, using her Processors to continue the upward motion and bringing her sword around in an overhead slash, a card flinging itself into the path to encase the cutting edge in Ice-aspect magic.
Asellus     The ten-foot lizards continue to lurk in the underbrush, waiting and watching. They wouldn't go running around and drawing attention to themselves. They are ambush predators, like so many things in Yorkland. But if anyone gets too close, they won't hesitate to pounce. Thankfully, such a needless additional random enounter is avoided, and with Arcana leading the way, the battle is joined. The dragon was already reacting to the sound of Leyanne's weapon, turning to face her direction, when Arcana comes jumping in and slashing ice into its face.

Predictably, it roars thunderously, more out of anger than in pain, despite the frosty gouge in its crimson scales. It's a really big monster. Even magic-enhanced, that amounts to a paper cut on something this sturdy and huge. But it can still be damaged, clearly, and that's good. Because it would suck if this was one of those worlds where dragons are unstoppable, overpowered plot devices.

The gleaming balls of yellow set in recessed sockets beneath a brow covered in more armor-like scales and horns glare at Arcana as one claw-tipped foot is raised to slash at her. Meanwhile, a large shadow plunges the already-dim environment into even deeper dearkness as a sweeping black shape comes swooping down out of the sky, the furious battering of wind from its wings that must span over 50 meters from tip to tip is physically heavy, pushing down on trees, knocking insects out of the air, and weighing down on Arcana and Leyanne, as the Black Dragon lands in the clearing as well. Its gruesome overbite of rows of uneven but sabertooth-tiger-like curved fangs parts as it opens its maw wide and breathes out a flamethrower stream that it sweeps across the swamp before it.
Leyanne Leyanne opens up as Arcana comes in for the attack, the martian mouse's big speargun speaking with a lound BANG-CHUNK as each spear is fired and the next one loaded into place. Gotta love repeating spearguns... especially when they fire three-foot lengths of hyperglass; the raw material of most things in the Line... it's very difficult to get it moving - hence the oversized speargun - but once they're in motion, it's equally hard to stop them; faint echoes of the unstoppable/immovable nature of the Line.

"Ow." Leyanne mutters with every report; it's tugging at her stitches and shaking things around. "Ow. Ow."

And then the other dragon arrives. "Motherfucker..." she groans, swinging her aimpoint across the black dragon in an attempt to bring it down before it attacks.
Theurgus     Arcana was expecting something like that. Even a Divinity Driver empowered strike wouldn't take something like an Elder Dragon-class Virus down in one strike. The swipe is dodged, sparks flying from her Processor waist armour as the razor sharp talon just barely misses slicing through her body.

She loops around and drops in front of Leyanne, holding her sword across her front and erecting a barrier as the flame breath comes rushing out, grunting as she tanks the hit for the wounded mouse.

"This will be difficult." she says, straining against the heat. "I believe we should focus on one, perhaps we can wound it badly enough that both of them will leave."
Asellus     Leyanne's spear gun does its harm, drawing snorts, growls, and more roars from the Red Dragon as it punches through thick scales. The Black Dragon is both larger and tougher, apparently, because it barely reacts to the spears that impale and stick out of it like little barbs. Its flame breath spreads across Arcana's barrier.

If they are to target one to wound sufficiently to drive them both off, then the Red Dragon seems the better target. Which isn't to say it's going to be an EASY target, but at least easier than the behemoth next to it that even turns, coiling its absurdly long tail around itself, and then sweeps it out in a whip-like motion that turns the ground upside-down and scatters trees to the winds in a barrage of shrapnel-like wood shards.

The Red Dragon, meanwhile, unleashes some kind of eye magic on Leyanne, trying to afflict her with a paralyzing gaze. If her will is strong enough or she doesn't happen to look when that oppressive, baleful eye seeks hers, then she might escape without being affected at all. But that they can wield magic as well just adds another level of unfairness on top of this battle.
Leyanne Leyanne meets the dragons' gaze... and she does freeze, for several seconds, under its baleful glare. But then, where skin meets that ugly, bare-skull woundstarts to bleed from the way the Mouse's entire body tenses to fight against it. "No!" She growls, spitting blood. "I have seen Forever. You... aren't... gonna... do... that... to... ME!"

There's a creak as she forces her cybernetics into motion, overpowering that paralyzing eye through sheer force of pain and bloody-mindedness. Slowly, her speargun comes up, slowly, slowly, tracking towards the dragon's face, before she lets fly with the last round in the chamber.
Theurgus     Arcana grunts as her Processors begin to spark from stress, releasing a gasp as the flame abates. She then summons several cards, slashing through them to erect a wall of flame to incinerate the incoming debris blast from the Black Dragon, skidding along the sodden ground after the slash. "Frozen beyond time. A heart of ice and stolen desire. Beckon from beyond the deep abyss of time." she begins to recite, her deck of cards lifting out of the holder and 'dealing' around her in a pattern. "Standing upon a broken throne, seated within a cold dias of melancholy. Come now, and upon this corrupted face release thy fury. INFINITE COCYTUS!"

Arcana's sword glows, and every single blue card shuffles out of the dealt deck, impaling themselves upon the blade. The DCC then slashes four times, creating a 'box' of ice blades to slam into the Red Dragon's chest, trying to freeze through the reinforce scales and get at important things inside the body.
Asellus     The Red Dragon huffs and snorts as the spear slams into its face, then lets out a cacophonous roar of pain and fury. However, its mouth is wide open as Arcana slashes out a formation of icy blades into its maw and chest. Snorting and roaring and breathing out flames in rage to clear its mouth, the Red Dragon unfolds its blood-red wings, begins beating them furiously, and then takes off into the air, the downdrafts enough to take a normal human to their knees under the air pressure.

However, letting out a menacing growl and a short roar, the Black Dragon mimics its companion and follows it up into the sky. It seems they've decided this swamp isn't worth the trouble of forming a nest here after all. It's good that they were stopped before they begun to form their nest and establish a hoard, or else they would have fought to the death to protect it.

This way, they will simply look elsewhere, and hopefully it'll be someplace uninhabitated. The clearing in the wake of the dragons' departure has clearly been savaged severely. It looks like a disaster zone. But at least no one but the Elites suffered any injury. Unfortunately, because the dragons weren't actually slain they didn't release any of the energy that enemies do in Region Space that revitalizes the winners after a battle, but maybe they can drink the pain away when they report back. They ARE in Yorkland, home of the brewers after all.
Leyanne Leyanne watches the dragons go, flipping them off as they depart. "THat's right!" She snarls."Run!"

She actually had little to no interest in actually getting that energy. There are two main reasons the MegaMouse does something; it's either to protect people, or to do something new and stupid and exciting to catch the buzz she's been chasing since she realised what being augmented meant. She's obviously in not fit state to catch the rush... if anything, she looks annoyed that the dragons forced her out of her recovery bed to deal with them.

She glares after them until they're dots in the distance, before looking to Arcana. "I need a fucking drink."
Theurgus     Arcana drops to the ground, releasing her transformation and moving to retrieve the Relay and return it to her Inventory. "Well, this Region is known for its breweries. Let us partake of the local fare." she says, covering her face with a hand, peeking between two fingers as she speaks. "I must be caustious... lest the Demon escape its bonds..."
Leyanne Leyanne nods and moves off towards the direction of the nearest brewery, slowly. "Thanks." She says to Arcana, with a little bit of a smile. "You did a lot of the work here... demon?"
