Karian Icefang     Not long ago, the Wolves suffered a major loss to their soul. They lost a close friend in Mortimer Balman, the salamander to them. Each one felt the loss deeply, but none moreso then Karian. It was he who sent mort onto the ill-fated ship, and felt directly responsible for his loss. Since then, he had spent nearly every moment tracking down any trace of the warband he had engaged that day. While it was true that many of the number died, a small group still remained. They had recently joined up with another traitorous warband, in an attempt to strike another Imperial outpost. But this outpost was cleared out hours before. Normally, the imperium would simply bury the location in ordinance, but today...something else was planned.
Aboard the Thunderhawk, normally boasting, laughing and banter would be heard. It was how the Wolves prepared themselves for engagement. But today, naught but silence. Each member of the wolves were unhelmeted, and were currently applying warpaint to their bare faces. Karian himself was taking particular time with his paint application, seemingly taking an old design from his clan's history. His face was decorated in the image of a roaring dragon. This was not going to be a battle sung of, but rather a grim strike for some measure of payback.
Dorian Pavus     There are many motives that Dorian can get behind. Revenge is definitely one of them. He might not have known Mortimer as well as he'd have liked to, but he considers Karian a friend, and any friend of Karian's is a friend of his. And so Dorian can totally understand wanting to give the warband responsible for Mortimer's fate what for.

That in mind, Dorian is not here as a glamorous, fabulous mage. He is here as more firepower to burn the traitors to the ground. That's clear in his outfit as well -- he doesn't have his typical white cloak and light-colored leather armor this time. No, he is clothed in the garb of a battlemage.

The blue outfit is decorated with bronze scale at his shoulders and on his arms, and his right shoulder has a griffin-like pauldron there for protection. The staff he carries is completely brass-plated and has a pointed bottom end that looks dangerous, and the top features a crescent moon with a spark of lightning leaping between it. And for once he has his head covered, with a helmet that looks as though it were part helmet, part turban, and part ushanka.

He sits with the rest of the Wolves, waiting for arrival at their point of contact. While he waits, he asks, "Is this to be merely a rout? Just kill everyone inside?" He doesn't sound disturbed by it. Far from it; he just wants to know if that's what's being planned. Because that's what HE'S planning to do, so it's good to know so that he doesn't accidentally kill someone he shouldn't, or destroy something he shouldn't.
Staren     Staren's heard that Karian is calling for help with an important mission. And with what happened to Mortimer, that mission can only be one thing, right?

Staren comes in from the airlock in heavy armor -- It's not /nearly/ as large as Space Marine armor, but it almost looks like there's a little influence -- this suit is four feet wide at the shoulders and has big (but not THAT big) pauldrons covering the shoulder joints, which he's mounted missile racks on.

Staren's smiling face would be at odds with everyone else if anyone could see through his helmet. As it is, he stops and looks around at the solemn faces of the Wolves, and feels confused. "What, uh..." He turns to Karian. "What's everyone so depressed about? I know we're going to what is basically Hell to find Mort and kicking the ass of every demon that gets in our way, but isn't that like... you guys' /jam/? What battle could possibly be more glorious and righteous, right?"
Tomoe Tomoe hearing about the apparent fate of Mort and it had not taken much to get her onboard the THungerhawk. This is one of those rare times the Iron Lily is not one of the tallest people somewhere she's rather short in comparison to the battle-brothers of the space wolves here. Still, she knows stakes even without the cries for justice for Mort? It came down to Chaos was something she never wanted to get its hooks into the wider multiverse.

Tomoe looks at Staren for a moment.

"This warband had a hand in killing Mort. Their rampage needs to stop for good these are the last of them so far as we know Staren."

Tomoe has no idea Mort might still be alive either...and the Iron Lily has a grim look Staren wouldn't have seen on her since either after what Bloody Revlation did to Lookshy or the Boss fights of Sword Art Online...
Kirito     Kirito barely knows of Mortimer Balman. Spoke to him a little. Knows of him. Doesn't really know him or consider him a friend.. certainly doesn't owe him anything.

But Karian is on a crusade. Tomoe is all over it.

He really, truly, deeply doesn't like the idea of going up against more of the grim, hellish, awful things that Karian's world seems to spawn in countless droves. But Kirito the Black Swordsman has taken a seat with the Wolves, and is checking over his equipment. Elucidator and Holy Sword Excaliber are turned around, their status windows triple-checked, and sheathed. His potion and crystal belt inside his coat is stocked and secured.

And Yui, tiny Navigation Pixie Yui, quite out of place amidst this company, is sitting on his head, holding on to a few locks of hair for comfort while looking around at all of the fearsome faces.

The quiet from him is rare. It's so very rare that he sets off on a mission knowing and -expecting- that he's going to have to kill. Something he almost never does. Even if he's grown a tiny bit used to it, that's nothing he wants to be proud of or even accept.

"We'll put a stop to them." He assures Tomoe, quite simply.
Alexis Maaka     WHen Karian asked Maaka for help, she didn't exactly hesitate to offer her aid. Hard to believe Mort's actually gone, too. She never knew the guy beyond a few occasions of working together, but somebody has to keep Karian's got their head on straight.

She cocks her EM-GASH magrifle with a meaty, electronic hum. Charged and cocked, she's ready for war as her STALKER suit's helmet closes up. "Let's do this." She concurs with Kirito, tense like a coiled spring. Chaos Spawn and cultists, nothing she hasn't killed before while working with the Wolf Lord.
Karian Icefang     Karian looks up at everyone, nodding. "My thanks for coming along. But once we touch down, we hit hard and fast. I don't know how many traitorous dogs are going to be on the field, but none of them leave here alive. They killed one of ours, and we will return the favor." He says grimly, perhaps more grimly then he ever sounded before. A glance into his one eye would show he was NOT playing around. This was perhaps the true nature of the Wolves. The kin-slayers, the Emperor's Executioners.
Once the thunderhawk touched down, it would immidiately fall under fire from traitor lasweaponry. But that wouldn't stop the charge of maddened wolves. In a flash the guard would find bolter fire levelled at them. "Come out and face your deaths, traitors. The Allfather's Retribution has arrived."
Dorian Pavus     And no sooner are the group fired upon than Dorian is throwing out Barriers! That should keep the Wolves and their allies from getting hurt too terribly badly in the first few moments... and might also make them seem untouchable to the enemies for a few moments, too. Intimidation is totally a valid tactic. And could be particularly useful when they're trying to completely and utterly annhilate everything at this location that isn't one of them.
Staren     Oh. OH. This isn't the Mort rescue mission at all. And they don't need to like, go inside buildings or anything, so there is no reason for Staren to be on foot. He excuses himself back to his ship.

The Star Hawk flies down through the atmosphere alongside the Thunderhawk. As the transport comes under fire, the mecha transforms to humanoid mode, crouching with its shield in front of the entrance, while sweeping the gatling railgun across the enemy lines.

Staren can't actually stay still for long under the assault of bolters, but hopefully it buys the others some time to not get shot at before they can even step out of the ship!
Alexis Maaka     "RIGHT THEN!" Maaka calls out just before they land and move out. "Reminder on who we're up against; These guys are big, they're fast, and their idea of a fun Friday night is fucking you up with their demon mates! So let's make these ugly sons of bitches work for that, shall we?"

She storms towards the enemy, knowing her armor and Dorian's barriers will be able to keep her intact. Lasbolts streak past, and she takes aim at traitor guardsmen with her magrifle's optics, blasting away with high-velocity rounds that'd be more expected from a Tau railgun. Moving with the speed associated with an Astartes, Maaka makes sure she's a hard target to hit for these guys, sometimes using debris or even Space Wolves as cover.

Knowing Space Marines, they wouldn't exactly blink at smaller allies doing the latter.
Dorian Pavus     Maaka's statement is definitely taken under advisement. However, Dorian is nothing if not a ball of snark, and his usual shows through as he responds to that statement. "Not without dinner first, they aren't," he declares. "Maker, no one these days has any concept of manners, do they? Everyone expects to just yank your innards out on a first date. Dreadful."
Tomoe Tomoe looks to Karian. "Leaving those who empower the things they worship is a bad idea."

She takes a deep breath as she moves to leap out of the Thunderhawk before it even lands wings flaring out as she goes and she will move to dive bomb into the first pack of cultists she can find she says nothing to them, no battle cries until the impact and even then it's only a moment to change a spell, a tongue long dead to this world only known by creatures of the warp and the Emperor of Man are spoken.

The runes dance about the winged woman and then comes an explosion of light in every direction which will burn into anything around her. Tomoe's has her Naginata out and is going to town on the cultist with the long blade. She knows there isn't much she can do about these people save to make sure it ends with them. She also bites down the fear in the back of her mind of what could happen from just coming face to face, with the corruptive powers the cultist worship.
Kirito     The moment the hatch opens, Kirito LEAPS out and takes to the SKIES on his Spriggan wings. He assumes that the fighters gathered at this camp will expect people emerging to be GROUND BASED, allowing him to go -straight up- and throw them off entirely and split their attention in a number of ways!

Going from zero to YES speeds like that is HELL on his body, and turning it into a powered-arc-DIVE to swoop in for their rear lines even more so, but that's -exactly- what the young man does.

He dives in for their rear lines, dashes in at great speeds, and attempts to body slam one of the troopers so hard that he can knock the weapons from his hands and use the guy as a living shield of sorts to approach the next guy... and go for a painful upwards slash to the weapon arm to ruin his ability to grip, aim, and fire.

At the moment, he's not using any Sword Skills at all. Simply staying low and engaging with his own polished CQC of elbow blows, slashes, leg hooks, pommel strikes and thrusts to scatter and slam through the ranks!
Karian Icefang     Thanks to barriers and a bit of cover fire in the form of both mech and a not!Tau-rifle, the Space Wolves manage to get into the fray proper...and by that we mean alot of shoulder charging and traitor guardsmen getting tossed into some of the nearby ground and otherwise treated like pinballs, as well as CQC dummies by a certain spriggan. But that surely wasn't going to be all. Sure enough, the scenery began to get all screwy and open popped a few portals, and out come the chaos marines, a pair of whom were already firing towards the percieved Living Saint that is Tomoe. "I knew it was too much to expect you to spend all your time left mourning, old man. Though I'm not surprised...you care more about the fucking xenos then you ever did us." says one of the emerging Chaos marines. Karian immidiately growls out, recognizing the voice. "Sven! How could you?! One of my own Wolfguard?!?!" He shouts, teeth visibly grinding. "You were going to lead us to ruin, and no one else saw it or dared to say anything...That said...would you like to know what that old bastard Mortimer's last thoughts were? Before his ship blew up, I mean." Sven said, smirking arrogantly.
That was it, the final straw. Karian was seeing red at this point, rage building inside him. "HE. IS. MINE!" He manages to say, drawing his great claymore from his back. All around him, his still loyal wolfguard take up positions, fighting off renegade guardsmen and any of the deamons that saw an open portal as a way out. "This is more honor then you deserve, Traitor...You spit on our customs, our ancestors." Sven merely grins at Karian. "Like any of it matters in the face of the Gods."
Staren     Staren moves away from the ship to focus on dodging.

Hopefully the Chaos Marines aren't smart enough to blow it up and trap people here or something.

Methodical, mechanical killing. That guy's aiming at you. Block or dodge. Fire railgun. Eventually their armor will give.

Was everything, was trying to kill Mort really seen as for their own protection? Were they just scared? Do they deserve another chance?

Maybe in a perfect world Staren could grant them that chance. The time to learn, to grow, to realize that this silly xeno/human divide is meaningless. Time to become part of the great Multiversal society, contributing and making others' lives better.

But even if Staren could somehow guide them into such a future, that would mean stopping all the Space Wolves and his allies who have come here today. Doing that AND subduing the chaos marines is far beyond his power.

The answer is don't think about it, Morty.

So the chaos marines are going to die. That's what's going to happen today. And the Space Wolves and their allies are going to live and go on to make the Multiverse better. It won't be the perfect future, but it will be better than the present.

Railgun slugs make trails of fire as they go so fast they burn the air. Traitor guardsmen are vaporized; chaos marine armor is dented.

How much longer CAN he keep doing this? But it must be done.
Dorian Pavus     The portals open and Karian finds... one of his own, apparently. Dorian's not too surprised by this -- he grew up in a place where such behind-the-backs-of-one's-supposed-allies treachery is common. And he also knows that, whoever that is, he's Karian's to punish. However, he does yell out to Karian, "Do not let rage blind you too badly! You'll miss any further treachery that one has planned!"

Besides, Dorian has some assistance he can offer with the guardsmen. And possibly the daemons. The aura around him grows darker, colder, but not in temperature. Death can be sensed from him, as he summons forth spirits of fear. He begins to 'tag' the rogue guardsmen and daemons with spirits of fear, seeking to siphon away their life slowly.
Alexis Maaka     Traitor guardsmen and lesser daemons are treated like nothing more than target practice for the first round of battle, but then portals open and Chaos' go-to specialists for destruction come marching in. Maaka opens fire on the cultists left standing, just before she hears Karian's rage.

She feels like she missed a lot right now, but right now she's got some issues coming her way.

Chaos Space Marines are basically the same as Space Marines, to oversimplify things. They're big and nimble despite wearing enough armor to stand up to damage that would tear apart a tank, while packing chainswords and rifles firing .75 rocket rounds.

tl;dr, these guys are gonna be a nasty foe to kill. "Don't let the Marines get close, they'll rip you apart in close quarters!" She calls out, before taking aim at some of the Black Legion warriors with a grenade round. It fires off small jets that are revealed to be some kind of fuel-air explosive in nature, letting off a hellish blast of flames within a six-foot radius.
Tomoe The Battle is in full swing now and Tomoe is getting into the thick of things now and she's got a good deal of attention. She doesn't think too much honestly she's more focusing on fighting them. She has no words as she took one of the hits the shot did injure her, she did feel it and she kept going like a blender with her polearm, she's not fully going into any sword arts yet other than the spell, but it's clear Tomoe is not playing about, she is just laying down the punishment and if they see her as a Living Saint? Well, that's an edge she has but she's not aware of. The whole fear of such in the hearts of the fallen guardsmen might be a powerful force in the battle ahead. So she just keeps hacking and slashing away here.
Kirito     Of course it's a setup. Who would ever think that these few guardsmen could stop the far stronger, far more experienced, and SIMPLY BETTER EQUIPPED (in more ways than one) Space Marines?

The moment that reality distorts and chaos portals appear, Kirito snarl-hisses in half-panic and cranks up his wings to full power in ascending straight up, brandishing his weapon in a solid guard while looking down at the MESS that's unfolding... "Of course. It's a setup. A simple one..."

Too simple. Really. But so, so predictable. The moment Karian reveals familiarity with the mastermind of this, Kirito grinds his teeth. As if he knows what's going to happen.

    And Karian takes the bait.

Grinding his teeth, he shouts out, "Karian! He's going to provoke you with everything he has!" It's all well and good to be angry, but not to act IMPULSIVELY...

    Especially for a commander.

And so the Black Swordsman dives down from the skies to the foes nearest Karian's confrontation, hoping to protect him from anyone that might try to shoot him in the back!
Karian Icefang     Oh yes, Karian was enraged. But in a way that can be worked to an advantage, something the wolf lord was keenly aware of. So much so, he simply points his sword at Sven, his former Wolfguard. Many who were born of Fenris, and know the culture would understand the gesture well. It was a challenge of leadership. Words didn't need to be exchanged between the two and in an instant the pair were engaging blade to blade. Fighting another Astartes, Karian didn't have to hold back anything. In seconds, blade strikes were parried and dodged. It was a spectacle in and of itself, to see what the augmented soldiers of the Imperium could truely do. But it was something that could only be seen in glimpses as deamons of the warp were emerging alongside the still present, though diminished guardsmen and cultist forces.
Karian and Sven were both moving like dervishes caught in their deadly dance of blades. Neither one willing to give up or admit defeat. But Karian had something more in his pocket. He was showing off all the rage he held, but it didn't rule him. Just like many in the Imperium saw the Space Wolves as drunkards and fools, he was making Sven see naught but a man ruled by rage. Something a skilled swordsman would pick up on easily.
Staren     And Karian's got to have a freaking DUEL with the guy instead of crushing him with overwhelming force. Okay, sure, right now Staren's got other problems, like: <"How do we close those portals?!"> He asks over the radio, hoping someone knows. In the meantime, he switches weapons, drawing forth a massive six-shooter to blast demons, and firing a few large missiles from the shield arm into three of the portals, hoping that explosions might close them or at least kill a whole bunch of demons.
Dorian Pavus     In Dorian's case, it's less that he's experienced in combat and can see what Karian is doing, and more that he just trusts Karian not to go completely ballistic over there. He can also help out with tossing a Barrier Karian's way if it looks like the old Wolf is having trouble over there.

For his part, Dorian's on Staren's team for the time being -- those portals have to close; that should stem the flow of daemons. "Someone cover me, and I'll try to close the portals!" Assuming someone will do this, Dorian will indeed work on seeing if he can get those portals closed.

He'll concentrate on the energy that's feeding the portals, trying to choke it off. And then pulling at the 'fabric' of the portal itself, trying to destabilize it. He will, of course, need someone to cover him before he can concentrate safely on this. And he will also need to work on one portal at a time.
Mortimer Balman      Something.. Changes, in the air around the battlefield. A darkness that creeps over the land, over the fallen, and seeps into every crack where shadow may lurk. Something unbidden by the forces of Chaos- it is not of their ilk, even a Blank could feel it. Something wracked with pain and sorrow, and unfettered rage.. And hunger.

Though there is no outright physical effect, there is a definitive malevolence that looms overhead. The spirit of oblivion, causing the minutes to fall dead, adding up to no passing hour. The sound of screaming is heard, as though from a great distance. Men, women, children, human and alien alike. The cries of dying scavenger birds. It builds slowly, perhaps purposefully? Until it becomes a horrid keening. The wailing of the Dead and Damned, their lamentations and hatred for lives unjustly cut short.

Ephemeral visions appear here and there at the corner of the eyes, of human skulls that have been distorted until they are alien and monstrous. Eyes that stare from beyond the veil of mortal sight. Mouths that scream and chatter without making a sound. Wraithly hands reach up from under the earth, and broken jaws full of rotten teeth. Biting, clawing, tearing, gnawing, trying to pull the Traitors and the Heretics down to join them in their cold mass graves; weeping for justice and vengeance. Noiselessly they scream to be remembered, craving psychic essence and emotions to keep their memories alive..
Tomoe Tomoe has some ideas that Karian is playing the fallen Space Wolf but that leaves her concerned even as she was hacking and slashing her way through the fallen. The Imperium as a whole scared her, such a massive machine, in such a violent universe and what it fought? Scared her more, because when you get down to it? The universe shaped mankind into its current state. It does not excuse it but it's still how it happened and Men like Karian gave her enough hope to keep helping.

"If you hate the imperium why do you sell your souls like this to things that see you as only food for their unending hunger?!"

She now start making use of sword arts launching into the sort of high speed combos one would expect more out of a space marine of perhaps some of the eldar (OOC or whatever the blazes they want to go by this week.) . Either way, Tomoe has become a blender and she shows no signs of stopping.

<<I have no Staren.>>
Alexis Maaka     Maaka reloads her underslung launcher, firing off another burst of fire at the Chaos marines, trying to focus on drawing attention away from Dorian. He seems to have the portal in mind, which is reason enough for Maaka to keep doing her job. At least, until she sees some kind of crazy ghost shit. "What the -hell?-" She exclaims, watching in bafflement.
Kirito     Right in the middle of slashing away one traitorous Marine and leaping out of the sights of another - trailed by gunfire that's TRYING to catch up to him - Kirito feels that HORRIBLE pressure coming down from above. His finely tuned instincts are ready for almost anything...

But definitely not for all of reality to start SUBTLY SCREAMING.

With a panicked gasp, and staying low to the ground, he dives behind one of the fallen for extra cover and looks up as rounds pepper the ground around him and occasionally glance a limb. Minor injuries that his Battle Healing can deal with!

"I can only guess that's reinforcements...!" And not friendly ones.

After a few more moments, he blinks. No, something about it's not right. Sven and his ilk are startled by it...!

"Great, some third party's coming this way..."

Kirito KICKS a fallen weapon at another one of the traitors to surprise them, and leaps out to plunge Excaliber into a leg and KICK his target to wrench it back out and speed away...
Karian Icefang     Well, that was unexpected. With wraithly little bits of energy sapping going around, guardsmen that aren't detonated by the not!tech-marine of Maaka, or done in by the blender that is tomoe or the speed demon of Kirito are now on the floor, fighting to stay conscious. This will give Dorian all the time he needs to shut any active portals in the area, and promptly seal them. No going home for these heretics. Sven, despite his panic at realizing all his bluster and posturing just got blown up, charges for Karian once more, aiming to take advantage of the man's rage and apparent confusion.
Except at the last possibly second, Karian parries the blade deftly. He comboes this up with a series of strikes and feints. It's at this moment Sven realizes he's been played. With a shout of exasperation, he charges again, his blade coming down fast. But the more experienced Karian would move his blade and not only parry, but completely shatter the traitor marine's chainswords teeth belt, rendering the weapon useless. "Just...Just kill me." Karian shakes his head. "No. Death is what you want. It's far crueller to let you live with your failure. That is what the salamander would do." He says, looking over the downed men. "Send them all to whatever prison will take them. We came for vengeance, and it has shown itself in a way we did not plan for. We wanted blood...but if we kill them all...are we any different from them?"
Staren     And with some... strange, magical help??? The Chaos Marines are routed, and Sven and his crew are left at gunpoint. And Karian wants to send them to jail. To suffer. Staren sighs in exasperation and disgust.

"I must protest, Wolf Lord Karian. There is no purpose in their suffering -- it makes the Multiverse no better. Either kill them and move on, or find better meaning in jailing them. Redeeming them, or something. To make them suffer for no reason other than vengeance will not make you a better man."
Dorian Pavus     Dorian's concentrating on the portals, but when he becomes aware of the weird dark energy, he gets distracted. "What the...?" Though it seems whatever strange dark force he senses, it's of a mind to help them. "Thank you, whoever -- or WHATever you are..." he murmurs quietly. With the enemies strength being drawn right out of them, and Karian seeming to have overcome his enemy, Dorian concentrates on finishing up with those portals.

And once they're done, he sighs in relief. "Right then... what else?" He casts a look up at the sky, not sure exactly what it is that helped them... and really hoping it doesn't decide to turn on THEM now that there are no enemies present...
Tomoe AS the fighting goes on there's something else she notices something she has some idea about this spell. The horors she's seeing even as she's fighting and it seems to target the traitors and heratics? Odd she will think more about it later. Tomoe will bring her weapons into a rest state for a moment as the fight seems. "A good point Streen but also think given the things he's fallen to? Killing him may be what they want."
Alexis Maaka     "You serious?" Alexis stares at Karian, and the prisoners. Knowing this world, an execution is pretty much assured for these traitors. She has no interest in interrupting Imperium Justice, that much is certain. "Tch. If they die by execution instead of going down with a weapon in hand, they're no use to Chaos." She points out to Tomoe coldly, keeping her magrifle close in hand.
Mortimer Balman      As swiftly as the dark presence comes.. It leaves. Fading away like a bad dream upon waking.. Nothing there anymore, now.
Kirito     Kirito decides not to swoop down again after disabling a number of warriors and Sven giving up. He's still fully on edge, ready to, but he'd rather get ready to help Karian if anything unexpected happens than get sucked into that life or death hell again...

With everyone else gathering around Karian though, he soon gives up on this being useful and instead looks this way and that, trying to pin down that FREAKISH sensation from earlier...

But then it's gone? "... The hell was that...?"
Karian Icefang     "I have a few idea's..." Karian says, looking over the defeated men. While he could still kill them, he also found letting them live was objectable to some. And so, he thought of a compromise. "Rather then jail...I know a place to send these men. They will be sent to the Inquisition. I'm sure Atrox will be happy to take them off our hands, and they will be serving to help the Imperium." He says, his men moving to round everyone up, or in this case carry people to waiting transports.
Tomoe Tomoe looks to Maaka and has no reply for her it's up to Karian and she just tuirns to Kirito who gives her a very good distraction from that toipic. "Wait sdo you saw that too? I have no idea...what that was other than I feel like I seen it before..."
Staren     The Inquisition. Great. There's almost certainly some needless suffering involved there, but... "And this is the only way to stop their souls from serving chaos?" Staren asks.

Given what these people have done, he's not going to make a huge fuss over someone torturing them, as long as it's not indefinitely.
