Bahamut      The Monster Research Institute, or MRI if you prefer, has set up a bit of an expedition in Spira. The early reports on the creatures called fiends say that they are creatures manifested by the angry dead who seek revenge on the living simply for still being alive. The spot they have chosen is a huge flat plains called the Calm Lands. It is a beautiful grassland surrounded on all sides by massive cliffs and clear skies overhead. But, the land looks like it had been torn apart at one time by some sort of cataclysmic event.

Deep crevasses split the flat land in several places, creating a definite trail of sorts that is heavily navigated by people on the backs of Chocobos - huge yellow birds that look quite dangerous at a glance but when tamed are as docile as a typical horse. Armored troops patrol the main road, a sign that the area is not exactly safe. And any entering the area see signs advising the rental of a chocobo to avoid the dangers of the many fiends that also call the Calm Lands home. The number of fiends makes this a good place for an MRI operation.

There are only two easy ways in and out from this area on foot, and they both have large stables near them for the suggested rental of chocobos, as well as offering a resting place for travellers and shops to buy adventuring supplies.
Orchid      The Monster Research Institute has come to Spira, backed by some of the local cities, to research the fiends, to see what can be learned of their nature, and to see if the rumors of actually being the angry dead are true. Idealy, this research will lead to discovery of a way to either control the fiends, keeping them away from important places, or stop them from 'respawning' as quickly. And while some of the members of the MRI are more fierce looking than some, they are also mostly scientists. Thus, they've hired some brave elites to help.

The plan today involves rounding up a number of the fiends, gathering them into a corral of fences, and transfering them into the transport cages. Among those part of the mission is Orchid, standing near the corral at the moment, communing with her drones that she's sent out to find the fiends they are hunting. "Okay, we've got a good swarm about two klicks north," she says, looking at the camera feeds behind her eyes, projecting the resulting compiled data as a map in front of her.
Gaonoir     "I hate escort missions," Gaonoir grumped, crossing his stout arms.
"It's a RESEARCH mission," Erika corrected the canid as she fiddled with preparing the camera she had brought along. "Resentful spirits somehow manifesting physical creatures instead of standard spectoral phantasms is just begging for a cryptozoological investigation."
"So keeping a bunch of scientist from getting themselves killed while nerding over verything." The dark-furred digimon snorted again. "Sounds like an escort mission to me." He uncrossed his arms to tug at one of his training gloves and make sure its firmly in place, then switched to do the other. It's a similar habit to someone cracking their knuckles before an activity. "Fine, whatever, as long as I get to beat something up."
Erika looked up from the camera to peer at him. "We're suppose to be taking -living- specimins, Gaonoir."
To which Gaonoir actually smiled. Briefly, and slightly unsettling with the large wolf-like fangs it shows. "Now now, I said -beat up-, didn't I?"
Which just gets Erika to roll her eyes. "And you complain when I play technicalities... Oooh, sounds like the robot girl found something."
" 'Robot girl'? Isn't that kind of rac--" And Erika is off to join the rest of the group to track down the swarm before Gaonoir can even finish. "--Ugh, nevermind." He gives the knot of his bandana a yank to keep it tied in place and tromps after his already excitable Tamer.
The Twins     "Crap. Crap. Crap. You've got to be joking."

Kyri looks through some souvenirs the shop they're in has available. She shakes her head in dismay, "I can't believe anyone would actually buy any of this." She looks over at Kali for confirmation, only to see her sister widely eyeing a chocobo figurine.

Kyri quickly walks over and grabs Kali by the arm, "Come on. We've got work to do."

As she is led away by her sister, Kali looks sadly in the direction of the figurine, "B-but, but..."

Kyri shakes her head, "No work, no pay. Let's go." Kali gives in, quietly following her sister out.

The twin teens walk up to where the expedition is currently preparing to leave. Kyri stops near Orchid, crossing her arms as she listens and looks at the projected map. Kali moves up to stand close behind her sister, looking a little uncomfortable as she glances around at all the unusual people. Kyri tilts her head at the display, asking, "So our job is just to keep the monsters off the eggheads. Right?"
Tomoe This was a strange job, but it paid well enough. While Tomoe was well off most of her money was tied up in physical things so she generally had a need for liquid cash so here she was. Also having more information on the monsters of the multiverse would be quite useful. She was clad in the mix of plate and cloth armour she too almost always wears. Troops patrolling are a concern but also shows whoever controls the region thinks enough of protecting people. She had flown a fair bit of the way to get there and she came in for a landing beside orchid. The red transparent wings faded away as she set down and she looked to ORchid for a moment.

"If the rumour of them being the angry dead we might need someone who can talk to the dead somehow."

She knows Ganoir but the twins are an unknown she'll wave to the Digimon and then turns to the Twins.

"Yo I'm Tomoe."
Septette Arcubielle      Septette shows up disconcertingly short of supplies- and sans mount. The purple-shawled lady ambles over to the corral, side-eyeing Orchid's map as she mingles with the other assembled Elites. "The angry dead rarely stop being angry," she says to Tomoe, in a voice that sounds like someone talking through a dying Furby. "Besides, violence is a universal language. I'm ready to do some translating."

"Two klicks north," she reiterates to Orchid, pretending to take a moment to think about the situation. "Do we have a pre-established plan about how we're going to do the herding, or do we just knock them out and toss them in?"
Orchid      "It's not quite an escort mission," Orchid explains, as the others gather 'round. Erika's use of 'robot girl' merits a briefly raised eyebrow, but Tomoe gets a smile, but then back to business. "The scientists will be staying here, if all goes according to plan. These creatures are agressive towards travelers. What we'd like to do is to have you all work to lure them into the pen. They'd like a lot, and are offering a per-head bounty."
Bahamut      As the others gather, a large shadow passes overhead. A look upward would reveal it to be Bahamut, the metal dragon Aeon of Bevelle. He spirals his way down lazily before landing near the cages. He lets out a roar, seemingly on instinct, then crosses his arms over his chest and steps toward the group. "Welcome all, and thank you for coming. For those of you who do not know me, I am Bahamut. Aeon of Bevelle and King of Spiran Dragons. It is my duty today to oversee this hunt and make sure that if any high level fiends are encountered that you are properly informed about their abilities."

His voice sounds a bit hoarse and his metallic hide appears discolored and cracked in several places, like metal that has been placed under great stress. He has obviously been involved in something bordering on deadly within the past day or so. "As you can see, I am a bit battered at the moment, so in the interest of a faster recovery and because you are being compensated for your time here I will not engage the fiends unless something serious happens. I will instead be overhead offering directions and advise on how to handle the fiends we do encounter. There are four fiends which you should be especially careful around if they appear."

He pulls what looks like an orb of water from a disguised pack around his waist, then touches it with a finger. An image comes up of a disgusting green plant monster. "The Malboro is perhaps the most dangerous. It can cause many debilitating statuses, even causing you to attack your friends. It is suggested you do not engage this fiend if at all possible."

The image shifts to some kind of huge cobra seemingly carved from rock. "The Anacondaur. It is less dangerous, but it has the ability to turn those it focuses its gaze on to stone. If someone is hit while petrified, they shatter...and it is quite difficult to save them at that point."

The image shifts again, this time to some kinds of chimera. "The Chimera Brain. It is on a lower tier, but still quite dangerous and resilient. It employs most types of magic in its attacks."

The image shifts one last time to a large jaguar-looking creature with long catfish-like whiskers. "The Coeurl. It is perhaps even more dangerous than the Malboro. It is swift, hits hard, and can also cause petrification with its Break ability."

The image fades, and Bahamut puts the sphere away. "You are all capable, so I doubt we will have much trouble. But, being over-prepared is always better than under-prepared. Also, to assist with keeping you safe and corralling the fiends, chocobos are available for those who want the convenience of a fast and experienced mount with long endurance. They are quite friendly and easy to handle."
Gaonoir "We're doing it so they don't get hurt, close enough." The Malboro gets a scowling look though. "Just what we need. A Veggimon on steroids." That must be one hell of a bitter spirit to conjure up something like that. "Let's try to stay away from that one if we ca--" Gaonoir stops, realizing Erika is not standing next to him still. He turns part way to peer over his shoulder.

And she's already distracted by the chocobos and practically antsy to ride one.

Gaonoir just sighs and shakes his head. Fine, if she's not riding one of his evolved forms he won't have to worry about her getting in harm's way too easily. "Let's get this rolling. The longer we stick around the more likely one of the nastier things is to wander out.
Septette Arcubielle      The yggdroid pulls a small notebook and piece of charcoal out of her satchel and does some rapid scribbling as Bahamut conjures up images of the fiends they're supposed to stay away from. "Are adequate subversion precautions in place on existing personnel in case of mental domination, or are we doing this quick-and-dirty?" She sounds a bit forlornly skeptical that they'll have some kind of protocol in place for mind-control. One can always wish.

With the briefing evidently winding to a close, she fishes around in her satchel again and offers a handwritten card to Bahamut. The word "SORRY" is scrawled out, and below it: "Get well soon, Bahamut!" The ink is dry. ... Does she just pre-write those for everyone? "I'm sure we'll benefit greatly from your support, even so. Don't strain yourself," she adds with a smile.
Tomoe Tomoe cracks a bit of a smile at Septette. "You make a good point there."

Septette's voice seems off a bit it sounds like some kind of old toy her father had when he was young. She presumes some sort of damage or a deliberate choice on Septette. She just doesn't know and she'll end up being distracted from that train of thought but Orchid.

"Oh good it's not full on escort quest."

She seems to relax about that aspect of the job.

Bahamut arrives and she looks up to wave to her old comrade back from her Union days.

"Hello and oh god that thing has tentacles."

She looks at the Malboro.

"I want to set it on fire."

She's being honest about that there but the rest of the information on the monster is noted and filed away as she's now a bit more ready to go.

"All right I'll take a Chocobo and don't worry Bahamute take it easy and recover."
The Twins     The twins turn their heads to look at Tomoe as she introduces herself.
    Kyri says, "She's Kali."
    Kali says, "She's Kyri."
    They both say, "Hi."

Looking back at Orchid, the twins blink, asking together, "Lure them into the pen?" The twins look at each other with some confusion.

    "How are we-"
    "Well, we could try-"
    "That's likely to-"
    "Well how about we-"
    "Nah. But we could-"
    "That might work. But-"
"So we just whack them back in!"
    "... I guess."

As the shadow passes over the group, the twins look up and their eyes go wide. Kyri says, "Holy shit!" Kyri goes tense and protectively moves an arm in front of her sister as the dragon circles down to land...

    AND THEN IT SPEAKS!

Throughout the whole explanation of dangerous monsters, the twins just stare surprised at Bahamut. Likely taking in none of the information.

Finally the twins are able to think again after processing sudden talking friendly dragon. They both look a little uncomfortable in all the current company, but Kyri says, "Alright... Let's just do this and get paid." At the offer of riding a chocobo, Kyri looks doubtful. But Kali looks enthusiastic! Kyri mumbles quietly, "They better be friendly."
Orchid      "In case one of our people goes all wibbly-wobbly," Orchid says, "We do have net-guns. Adheasive, elastic, they'll keep you from doing too much damage. Does that sufice, Septette? And it only counts as an escort quest if you're trying to keep the monsters away from the subject. We're trying to do the opposite. So, we good on what the plan is? No last minute questions?" she asks.
Bahamut      Bahamut takes the note from Septette, then blinks after he reads it. He can't help but smile slightly. "Thank you." he says, then slips it into his pack. "If you do encounter a Malboro and it manages to get your team in its Bad Breath, the only recourse is for someone to use a Remedy on each member of the team. Try to outrun it if you can. If you must engage it be prepared for a long fight. Malboro are one of the toughest fiends known to exist, and each volley of attacks it survives is another chance for it to incapacitate all of you in one fell swoop with its breath attack. Be sure that each of you has enough Remedy to cover the entire team at least twice. I cannot overstate the danger of this fiend. Even the mightiest can be felled by it if they are not extremely careful or completely immune to its status attack."

Bahamut nods to Tomoe at her greeting and offers a smile. "Hello. It has been quite a while." he says. The Twin's antics are something that Bahamut has seen quite often, and it always causes an amused smirk to appear on his face. "The pack of Skolls to the north are our first target, as Lady Orchid has indicated." He pulls out the orb again and it displays an image of a wolf-like creature with an overly-long tongue and glowing eyes. "They are fast and numerous, and quite bloodthirsty. Herding them will actually be fairly easy because of this. They will happily follow you to the cages so long as they think they can catch you. This means you must stay quite close to them without actually being caught. The hard part will be getting them into the pens. Since they will want to follow you and have very little in the way of fear, the most effective method of corralling them will be for someone to enter the enclosure ahead of them and either leap the fence or go through a second gate and close it before they can follow."

Bahamut spreads his wings after that, then rumbles deeply. "If everyone is ready, we should get moving. Even more dangerous fiends sometimes appear after dark." He leaps, and in a few flaps is off like a rocket, soaring high into the sky. Those that choose to ride chocobos will find they are much like highly intelligent dogs. They enjoy rubs and scratches and other affection, and make no fuss at all when someone mounts them.
Septette Arcubielle      The little robot smiles approvingly at Orchid's explanation. "That'll work well enough. Hope nobody bites their own tongue off under the influence, then." A pair of spherical magitech drones materialize on either side of her- softball-sized, hovering things; one red and one blue. "I'm probably best-suited to helping direct their movement, assuming they won't try to chase me preferentially. I don't smell like blood yet."

For a little ways, she trots alongside the Twins and Erika to make sure that nobody's going to fall off their bird. Once she's confident enough of that, Septette bends her knees in ways that humanoid limbs shouldn't bend, leans forward into an almost ground-parallel stance, and takes off with her talons tearing gashes into the dirt at a pace to rival the fastest mount; even her drones are having trouble keeping up. With any luck, she'll make contact with the first group of lupine fiends before the squishies do!
Gaonoir Erika has done plenty of creature riding in her time. She mostly has to adjust to the chocobo being smaller than Gaogaomon, after that she's fine. Since she's quite happy to smother it with attention for being a good bird and following the others.

"Get in and get out before they realize they ran into a trap. That's simple enough." Gaonoir has a trick or two that might help with that too. So he sprints off to get to the head of the group, and get a first good look at these Skolls.
The Twins     The twins ride together. Kali is at the front and looking like she's enjoying herself, easily adapting to riding on and guiding the large bird. Kyri sits behind her, clinging to her sister tightly with her eye closed, looking thoroughly unimpressed.

Eventually Kyri starts to get over her concern on riding the strange creature, opening her eye again and looking forward. Seeing a couple of the others charging head, she says to her sister, "Yeah, let them go first and be the bait. We can mop up the stragglers." Kali nods along a little in confirmation, looking more serious as they get closer to the actual trouble.
Tomoe Tomoe is glad to see that the party is made up of known factors for the most part, so she has some idea od what to do the twins? Who do get her attention seem to know what they are doing so far but their ability to finish the others words does creep her out slightly it's rather uncanny to her.

"So we use me as bait at the cages and I can fly away once we trick them into it. Then slam the door in their faces."

SHe notes with that in mind she seems pretty ready to go. She'll get on her bird and move out.
Orchid      Orchid is staying at the trap, using her communications systems to keep the others in touch with each other. She's also keeping in touch with the scientists. Today those scientists include a wolfgirl, three dudes in labcoats, and another robot. The MRI is a diverse bunch, and these are some of the more normal sorts.
Bahamut      Bahamut flies ahead to get eyes on the pack of Skolls and provides directions to the pack. It is fairly large, especially for packs of fiends, numbering roughly 20 wolf-like creatures. As soon as the first person in the group gets near them, all of their heads pop up almost in unison before the biggest one howls menacingly, and the entire pack takes off toward the approaching group. As promised, they are fast and agile, almost able to keep up with the chocobos. And they aren't content to follow only one person. Even though Septette and Gaonoir approach first and draw attention first, as soon as three or four Skolls are in pursuit of them the others break off for the other team members. Each ends up with roughly the same amount of pursuers. It looks like either someone will have to go out of their way to draw all of the aggro, or everyone will have to enter the corrals and exit together.

And just their luck, as soon as the pursuit begins a trio of Coeurl join the chase. They are much faster than the Skolls and will definitely catch someone if they are not dealt with. Bahamut roars from overhead to try and warn the group below, then actually speaks over the radio, "Coeurl! Deal with them quickly!" The large cat creatures are already charging energy on the ends of their whiskers, which are easily as long as the rest of their body combined and so give them quite a striking distance.
Gaonoir It starts out well enough... but then there's the added complication of the cat things. "Someone take care of those," Gaonoir retorts as he skids to a stop for just a moment, if only to scoop up some ground and throw it at the other Skolls to try and get their attention as well. "Over here you mutts!" then turns and bolts for the corral with as many in pursuit as he can get. He doesn't bother trying to be tricky or evasive, just runs straight for the gate and into the corral for both max speed and to keep their attention. Just shut the gate as soon as the Skolls follow him in!

Except now he's going to be inside with them.

But not exactly trapped. As he reachs the opposite end of the corral Gaonoir... not quite disappears. It's more like his blackness becomes much more literally as he voidsteps into the shadows and back out on the exterior of the corral. Explains why he wasn't worried about being part of the aggro bait, at least.
Septette Arcubielle      For the first few moments, Septette dances in and out of the Skolls' range- they may nip and claw at her, but she always seems to be tantalizingly out of reach. That changes the instant Bahamut draws her attention to the Coeurl. She makes an offhanded attempt at killing the nearest wolf-monster with her claws, simply tearing it in half if she's able- but if not, she'll press through the pack anyway, seemingly heedless of the flurry of attacks likely to head her way in the process.

Her drones orbit patiently at a distance as she reaches the trio of Coeurl- if they halt, she'll stop to block their path; otherwise she'll run just ahead of them. Regardless, her long curved limb-blades unfold to rival their reach and heat up to a searing red glow. If she manages to goad them into attacking her, she'll near-instantaneously lash out to sever their reaching 'whiskers'; denied that opening, she'll wait for a chance to try and crush one's skull with an earth-shaking overhead blow.
The Twins     The twins had anticipated that this would turn into a chase, of sorts. It's why they chose to ride on the same chocobo together. Kali concentrates on guiding the friendly bird, while Kyri turns around to face backwards just as a pack of the skolls breaks off to follow them. The brief conversation over the radio gets Kyri excited and she says, "Cut ahead of that furry one. Then swing around for the cats. Let's get some treasure!"

Kali turns the chocobo to intersect just ahead of where Gaonoir is leading his. Hopefully the pack will switch targets to the digimon. She then swings around, riding to circle at a distance from where Septette has engaged the coeurls.

Kyri raises her hand up in the direction of the cats, attempting to capitalize on their distraction provided by Septette. Kyri's hand glows and several advanced looking rifles manifest from light in the air around her, keeping up with the running chocobo. They all turn in the direction of the coeurl pack and then pull their own triggers, unleashing repeated blasts of red light.
Tomoe With Bahamut saving Tomoe having to do flying recon she will be one of the ones aiming to do the herding of the creatures. It's not long before she's out there moving to get a group of the fiends to follow her. "Catch me if you can!" She calls out trying to taunt them as best she can. They seem to be intent on following her and that's what shes' going to do, however, there are undead cat things to deal with.

Tomoe, however, gets an idea as she rides the cat things will find they are being bombarded by her casting light spells at them which seek them out intending to do what damage she can without breaking off kiting the other friends.
Bahamut      The Skoll hit by Septette is cut in half quite easily. There may be many of them, but that means that each one is pretty weak. It yelps like a dog and colorful glowing lights that are clearly some kind of ghostly wisp start to eminate from it as its body slowly fades away. The others, hit by dirt and seeing their comrade felled so easily take off after Gaonoir.

When Septette runs right at the Coeurl, they in turn run right at her with obvious murderous intent. She is able to slash the whiskers clean off of the lead one, but the other two leap to the side and come in at her flanks. Their whiskers swing in unison and if she is hit she will feel a dark energy try to infuse her, seeking to at the very least slow her down and at worst to turn her into a stone statue of herself.

Unfortunately for Kali and Kyri, these fiends do not seem to prefer running in a large pack together. Without a real reason to go after Gaonoir they continue after the Twins. The change in direction allowed them to close some of the distance, and they are soon nipping at the heels of their feathered mount and trying to bring it down so they can get to the tasty morsels on top.

Tomoe, Gaonoir, and Erika bring in 15 of the 20, not bad for a first try. The trick now is getting everyone out of the pen before it is closed and not losing any of the fiends in the process. And to make matters worse, it looks like a small squadron of giant mantis wasp creatures is closing in on the science team. You didn't really think the fiends would just leave a group of nearly defenseless people alone, did you? Bahamut growls into his radio before calling it out. "The scientists are in danger! Get those Skoll locked up fast and take care of those Nebiros!"

The Coeurl are hit hard by The Twins and Tomoe. The hits are enough to vanquish two of them, and the third is practically defenseless without its whiskers. Even so, it keeps trying to claw and bite Septette. It is already dead, so...it doesn't have much in the way of self-preservation.
Septette Arcubielle      There's only a cursory attempt at dodging the whiskers on Septette's end- she makes an effort to twist out of the way, but her inertia hampers any real evasion. One brushes her leg, slowing her down for the others to connect; even so, her motions remain perfectly graceful, like someone dancing underwater. Patches of stone blossom across her body where they've touched, swiftly transmuting most of her chassis to gray rock...

And a moment later, she simply grabs the third Coeurl by the throat with one hand and starts to drag it back to the corral anyway. She's already a rock; what's it going to do to her that's worse? Hopefully those scientists can make good use of it.
Orchid      Orchid is the one manning the corral doors, and she snaps them shut to trap the beasts inside. The corral is basically a circle of sturdy, pre-fab, and rather tall, iron fence.

At Bahamut's warning, the scientists turn, facing the mantis bug critters. Now, the MRI tends to hire scientists that are relatively smart. Wise even. The sorts that don't try breeding monsters without some protection measures, such as isolation, and being able to sterilize the site if things go really badly.

But that doesn't mean they're good in a fight. Or even know how to run properly. The scientist dudes run for it, but they tend to trip a lot. The wolf-girl is standing her ground, and the labor-bot scientist picks up one of the cast-off wads of wire from the fencing project, pulling it into a makeshift club. Those two are waiting for the monsters to close in, buying time for the others to escape... if they can stop falling over their own feet.
Gaonoir Gaonoir's ears perk up at the sound of buzzing approaching, and he has to resist the urge to facepalm at the newest complication. "This is why I dislike escort missions." He looks up for a moment, then glances over to Erika. "This is going to take something bigger."

"On it!" Erika settles the chocobo she's sitting on with a soothing pat, then uses one hand to flip out her phone-like digivice. "D-Port, online!" She taps it with her thumb. "Digivolve engaged!"

Energy briefly surrounds Gaonoir, almost like a coccoon of darkness, before a much louder roar bellows from within. The aura shatters away and dissolves to reveal him in his Adult form. Now an actual quadroped canine, except about the size of a large bear. He takes a moment to inhale deeply, and then raises his head and with a howl of "DARK SPIARL!" unleashes the swirling stream of a darkness infused whirlwind from his mouth, directed in the air of the incoming Nebiros insect-things in an effort to blow them away from the corrals so the scientists can get away.
Tomoe They have a lot of fun coming their way they got a good number collectively to the pens. She'd let her Chocobo go before she went in and kept the fiends on her, so she should be good, her wings are out and she seemingly keeping out of reach with the efforts of Septette she's more than able to break off flying at high speed. With Gao also keeping the bugs off them and the Twins? She's burning at high speed for Orchid and the Scientists. She can trust the others to finish with the lockdown, right?"

Better annoyed employers than dead ones, right? She'll attempt to dive bomb into the thick of the attacking fiend with her Naginata in hand already and will start attacking them the moment she can.

"You want some of this?!"
Orchid      Well, it's good to have backup, and Orchid is some of that backup. She's got dash boots, so she can move quickly to where the scientists are. "Come on, let's get moving," she shouts. Despite her small size, she's relatively strong, able to pick up one of the dudes in labcoats. The wolf-girl grabs a second, and the thrid follows along, as they make their way towards the stables. The robot slowly backs away, swiping at any of the bug creatures that get too close.
The Twins     Celebration at the success of taking out a few couerl will have to wait. There are still some skolls following them. Kyri expresses her frustration, "Damnit! Why are they still following?" They're getting close too. Kyri turns her attention away from the coeurls. The rifles around her turning black and breaking apart, carried off by the rushing wind until there's nothing left.

Hand glowing once more, Kyri creates a new set of weapons in the form of a half dozen swords. They whip through the air towards the chasing skolls, but don't slash at them. Instead they split up into threes, crossing the flat of their blades to form impromptu shields. Kyri uses them to block the bite attempts while asking her sister, "Can we make it to the pen?"

Focused on controlling the chocobo, Kali replies, "I-I don't know..." But she tries anyway! The twins head towards the corral, Kyri continuing to control the movements of her swords to intercept the attacking skolls. The others will have to protect the scientists for now!
Bahamut      As Gaonoir, Erika, and Tomoe exit the pens they leave 15 live Skolls trapped inside, all of which growl and snarl and howl at the people outside the fence. They even start gnawing on the wires and poles, trying to break out. But, no doubt the scientists expected as much and brought sturdy materials. The Nebiros are easily intercepted by the swirling darkness. They get battered against each other before getting divebombed by Tomoe and her naginata. The small group is easily dispatched by the attacks, and more of those ghostly motes escape their corpses as they dissolve. One manages to reach the robo-scientist and tries to sting him before it is batted away. Hopefully he is immune to poison!

Septette grabs the surviving Coeurl by the neck and starts dragging it along. But, it doesn't go along quietly. It flails and slashes and body slams as much as it can, trying to break her petrified body. She won't have much trouble getting it back to the pens so long as she can weather its blows.

Kyri and Kali lead four more Skoll toward the pens, but is there one open to receive them now? Orchid and the others will have to make some arrangements, most likely. Otherwise, the Skoll will simply have to be killed. Kyri's swords prove quite effective at warding off the hits from the Skoll, and after a bit of their chocobo running it manages to outpace the Skoll once more.

Once the scientists have reached the stables they are completely safe. There are always armed soldiers posted there, able to handle just about anything that might wander in from the Calm Lands.
Septette Arcubielle      The quadrupedal monster in Septette's grasp flails and gnashes at her, only managing to draw sparks- the stone she currently seems to be made of is significantly softer than her usual composition, but most of her durability comes from densely-layered enchantments anyway, and those seem to work as well on rock as they do on metal.

She holds the Coeurl in an awkward position with one hand while rummaging around in her leather satchel for a Remedy poultice, and then crudely slaps it onto her own face, where it works its magic just as the beast tries to take a particularly vicious chomp out of her head (and promptly chips a tooth on the new ceramic).

That isn't to imply she's being casual about this whole thing- she's moving quite briskly, considering what she's got in tow, and her drones are already swooping over to the corral to help peel the lesser fiends off of anyone who seems as though they might be in trouble. Once Kyri announces her intention to create a pen, the drones start trying to herd the uncontained monsters into a general area, setting small fires with gouts of red magical energy and creating spiky ice crystals to hedge them in.
Gaonoir Well that was easily dealt with at least. Leaving the bugs to their fate at Tomoe's strike afterwards Gaonoir and Erika turn to help get another corral ready. This time Gaonoir doesn't have to bother to get too close to it, with a shake of his head and shoulders he whips one of his scarf ends to snare the gate from safely outside the corral and can swing it shut as soon as the next batch of fiendly beasties are in inside.
Orchid      Well, there aren't any more big corrals open, but there are some of those transport cages open. They'd be easy to toss critters into. Orchid will be coming back soon, and will be able to manage the doors for those interested in running though the cages and out the other side.
Tomoe The fiends dissolve into strange motes of light and are gon once they are taken down. One, however, gets to one of the robo-scientists. She curses as she moves as quickly as she can to cut down the fiend before it can do more damage and put it down for good or at least for a little while. She'll also act rapidly to cut down any remaining fiend that might be about.

"Hopefully that is the end of this. Good job on this."

She seems pretty pleased with her teammates performance.
Orchid      Oh, and yeah, the robot scientist. He's immune to poison, but he does have a nice new scratch. Not a big deal, actually, they've got great insurance.
The Twins     The twins get close to the pens... But they're full? That's... Unfortunate. But then Kyri smiles, "Hey sis, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"Of course!" The twins both jump off the chocobo mid-run, letting the creature continue on to safety. Kali watches it go, "Be safe, big birdie!"

Kyri turns to the pack who have no doubt caught up to them, while Kali presses her back to her sisters and asks, "Hold them off?" Kyri nods. She raises her hands, her swords following her mental commands to ward off the skolls while her sister works. Kali kneels down, placing her hand against the ground. Said hand turns black as a dark shadow rushes outwards from it, spreading out. Much like with the guns before, the terrain covered by the darkness begins to disintegrate, vanishing and leaving a large hole in the ground.

A hole the two jump into, luring the skolls in. Backing up against the wall of the hole, Kyri cries out in a little pain as a skoll manages to scrape its claws across her side. Kyri knocks it back with the flat of a sword as she asks with some strain, "Well?"

Kali presses her hand against the wall, more terrain vanishing to form a ramp upwards above ground again, "Almost there... Get ready!"

Kyri raises one hand up, a dozen spears forming from light in the air above them. The moment the two pass through the opening and up the ramp, Kyri brings her hand down, sending the spears streaking down to embed themselves in the ground, crossing over each other to form a fence to hopefully prevent the skolls from escaping the hole.
Septette Arcubielle      There's a broad trail of scuffed dirt and disheveled grass leading from the middle of the field all the way down to the corral- the Coeurl has come kicking and clawing the whole way, not that that's done it much good. Septette keeps up a kind of ceaseless writhe of motion as she drags it along at near-jogging pace, keeping its claws and teeth from finding any real purchase on her.

After giving the Twins an approving nod, she adjusts her grip on the beast- holding it under the forelegs, instead of by the jaw- and bends her knees, squinting at the pit. A one, and a two, aaaand...

The feline fiend is pitched in a lazy arc right over the spears and down into the pit. Those things land on their feet, right? That isn't just a myth? She dusts her hands off with a metallic clank, adjusts her shawl primly, and turns to depart.
Bahamut      It seems Gaonoir and Tomoe are able to sit back and watch the others work as the Twins form a pit trap for the remaining Skoll. Bahamut spirals his way down as Kali and Kyri work, and lands near Gaonoir and Tomoe. He waits for the Twins and Septette to join them, then motions toward the stable. "Well done, all of you!" he says with a grin. "Very well done, I would say. We captured all but one of the Skoll, and even captured a Coeurl! This should prove quite valuable in the initial research into the inner workings of fiends. Many lives could be saved by your efforts here today."

The Coeurl does land on its feet, then immediately tries to leap out of the pit. Luckily it is just deep enough, and a bit of that fencing over the top keeps it trapped until the MRI can properly prepare the fiends for transport. And those that fought the Coeurls would find they have one of their whiskers in their belongings. They are a good trophy, and those with magic sense might notice they still have some power of their own. All the chocobos, whether ridden back or released, find their way back to the stables. And Erika's takes an extra moment to nuzzle against her before it returns to its stall thanks to all the attention she gave it. "Not bad for an afternoon's work, wouldn't you say Orchid?"
Orchid      The remaining creatures are captured or dealt with, the scientists returning once the monsters are gone to arrange the movement of the things into the transport cages.

"A very good day's work," Orchid agrees, nodding to the dragon. "The nerds are all alive, we're all alive, and we're getting paid for our work. Hopefully the research will yield something that can be done about these fiends." There's a little twinge for what will happen to them, but it'll be quick at least.
