Sanary Rondel - PREVIOUSLY ON GUARDIAN HEROES-

In a kingdom of wizards, a church called for assistance from Multiversal Elites to take a magic sword somewhere safe. The kingdom had issued a ban on unlicensed sword ownership, the reasoning later revealed to be a prophecy that the royal family would be destroyed by a magic sword. Pursued by the Royal Knights, the defenders of the magic sword and a mysterious swordswoman accidentally revived a skeleton warrior clad in gold. The sword's defenders marched onward, aiding the resistance while those investigating and aiding the kingdom's knights learned of the suspicious surge in the Resistance's movements following the discovery of the magic sword.

After many trials and tribulations largely focused on fighting the royal knights, the Elites aiding in stabilizing the kingdom, and a pack of sweaty bandits, the Elites encountered the wizard responsible for orchestrating the kingdom's ban on swords. The wizard revealed not only that the swordswoman had been the true royal family's last surviving princess who had been usurped by the current royal family thanks to the wizard, but also the existence of the Sky and Earth Spirits.

In ancient times, the Sky and Earth Spirits battledfor dominion over the world. The Sky Spirits granted humanity the power of magic in exchange for their aid in banishing the Earth Spirits, but soon turned on humanity once their war was over had ended. The wizard swore vengeance on the Sky Spirits, slowly and steadily acquiring more and more power until humanity was ready to fight back against the Sky Spirits with him at the helm. After a grueling battle, the wizard was defeated and taken into custody by the Elites that had worked with the Royal Knights to stabilize the kingdom.

- NOW -

It has been several weeks since Kanon (the wizard) had been taken into custody. Since he made those revelations so long ago about Valgar (the royal prince) and the royal family's not actual royalty compared to Serena (the true royal princess), tensions have flared up around the kingdom even as fighting had momentarily slowed down. The Resistance, determined to put Serena on the throne, have gained some groundswell among those citizens that had been on the fence about joining them in the first along with Royal Knights that felt betrayed by Kanon's plot despite the true royal princess showing no actual leadership skills. Yet others joined the Royal Knights' ranks, feeling that it would be more important to maintain the kingdom's stability even in the hands of a false royal family headed by a king that had given Kanon free reign to do anything, a warrior prince in the midst of a crisis of faith, and a princess who hasn't quite done anything in this story.

Back in the castle, Kanon has invited the Elites involved in the kingdom's events to plot out their next course of action. It's more of a library and laboratory than a study, all things considered: Numerous lines of bookcases filled with tomes that have been magically maintained to avoid that awful dusty stench, beakers filled with strange fluids and binders filled with notes and schematics of the strange magic-technology blend that surrounds the kingdom, and arrays of old CRTs that show various channels showing the kingdom's weather, current events, and just plain static despite none of them being visibly plugged into anything.

Kanon himself is watching those TVs, waiting for the Elites to arrive with whatever questions or suggestions they may have. Those arriving would be led inside by the Royal Knights, a mixture of the black and blue knights.
Zenos yae Galvus The sound of heavy armor moving about can be heard as the door to the 'study' opened, and the large figure of Zenos yae Galvus appeared.  He was not accompanied by an honor guard, instead deciding to do this alone.  He was also unconcerned with the prospect that Kanon would do anything stupid such as try and attack him.

Continuing on his path, he moves towards the wizard.  His eye taking in the screen for a moment, before turning back to the man himself.  His gaze also briefly falls on the guard he has.  Zenos does not move with any haste or any haste, taking his time to observe everything and everyone.

"It appears the empire is more unstable than thought.  The Princess seems to have little strength to pull things together, the King seems to have just as little.  Perhaps you should consider applying to become a vassal of the Garlean Empire.  Stability will be achieved fairly quickly and painlessly."
Stella     Stella was already here, because the primary advantage of having a crystal golem in your employ is that you can have her keep someone under constant watch without ever needing to pause for food, water or sleep.

And given Stella's unique mindset, she doesn't even fall victim to boredom, at least not in the traditional sense.

The white-haired, slightly shimmery girl, colored like a human wearing clothes but ever so ~off~ in how her everything sparkles like crystal and her clothes don't move like clothes, is standing in a corner of the room, still as a statue, giving the TVs an occasional glance but being... generally pretty non-presence otherwise.

"Kingdom. It is a kingdom," Stella corrects Zenos on semantics, because she is a nerdy knight and only knows a few things really well, and that's basically one of them. "Though I do not believe it matters what it is called, as at this rate it will consume itself and nothing will be left."
Tomoe Tomoe had gone up against some people she had told the true princess she was with her and had helped since the day they got the magical blade out of the temple. She'd stuck it out and had been in to help where she could with Serena. Tomoe did want to keep things from imploding maybe something could be worked out but for now, they had to talk to Kanon as there were larger stakes involved at this point that she even dreamed about with this.

She was willing to hear Kanon out, or she would not be here after all, right? She was still clad in in armour but there was no sign of her weapons as the towering woman entered, her footfalls echoing slightly as she did.

"All right Kanon, I'm here and I suspect everyone else will be here shortly."

She looks to Zenos for a moment.

"Expansion by diplomacy? Not something I expected to hear but promising to know it's something the Garelans would consider."

She looks to Stella nodding.

"Thats part of why I'm here."
Cordelay Levail Cordelay steps into the study with poise and confidence, hands behind her back slightly in case she needs to draw her blades. She takes a moment to examine the screens before taking up a position near the entrance and commenting, "This kingdom is in shambles. I can see why some argue for maintaining the current dynasty - the longer this chaos continues, the worse conditions will become. The question is which option will build a more stable realm in the end."

Her tone is impassive and matter-of-fact, her eyes narrowed as she considers the situation. "Though from what scattered information I've heard, I doubt Garlean annexation will be much good. Such empires tend to crush all the individuality out of their subjects."
Chrollo Lucilfer Chrollo Lucilfer is no stranger to complicated situations. One might say the Phantom Troupe is one ticking time bomb of a situation given it's members' attitudes on the best of days. And so signing on mid-way into a yarn ball of a magic kingdom's prophecy-slash-succession-crisis as his first call to Multiversal action has the man feeling a somewhat dull edge of curiousity about it all.

And just a little anticipation. No doubt his fellow Elites will have wonderful Abilities, and there'll be a chance for rampant banditry later.

And so he arrives with a pair of those Royal Knights guarding him, face etched in that placid look of the detached and curious types. He's in his usual coat and shirt, hair slicked back, white fur around cuffs, neck, and bottom of his jacket spiked up as is his wont. He otherwise looks unarmed at a glance.

Upon entering, he gives a brief nod to Kanon, and then the rest.

"People react in fascinating ways when their comfortable lives are uprooted. ...But will they follow tradition, or their own path?" Muses Chrollo out loud, even as he reaches to pluck one of Kanon's books.

"Chrollo Lucilfer. A pleasure." He then briefly introduces, voice measured and polite.
Note     Note has had to think long and hard about the situation here. She has not come to any answers... nothing besides, "I... don't really know enough to say what's good for the people here." This is delivered awkwardly as she joins the group in the strange chamber, dressed in her casual attire... and a fair bit shorter than most people here. She looks about in wonder at some of the unfamiliar faces, tail swaying about freely behind her as she finds a place to hang out.

That ends up being an empty spot of the desk. She simply vaults up to seat herself on it, letting her legs dangle and kick about freely.

"But the Spirits thing, maybe I can help with that somehow."
Riku Riku arrives. Just another teen amidst the others. He took the time to get updates on what's going on, but he doesn't say anything immediately, simply leaning back against an open spot on the wall, watching who shows up, who has something to say, who does what and how. Zenos' opening argument gets a smirk. "Well, that's direct enough." He says. "Looks like you want to just solve this quick yourself."

He shrugs at this entire situation, and simply asks, "What does the Princess want? Seriously. Has anyone asked her?" He nods to Note. "That's a problem too." Looks like he's being short and succinct at the moment.
Krusty     Krusty has chosen not to don his heavy armour for this meeting, instead arriving in a formal uniform coat. He's accompanied by one of his lieutenants, Misa Takayama, who walks along behind him in a matching uniform. Krusty glances around that those who are already here. Hmmm, tough crowd. Misa does give Stella a look, but otherwise she remains quiet at her lord's side.

Krusty arrives in time to catch Zenos's offer, responding to it with, "Some prefer to seek the future with their own strength, rather than simply hand it over to others. Besides, change is not something that happens quickly. I believe there is still hope for this kingdom."

When Krusty finally stops though, he gives Kanon a brief look before saying, "However, I am curious as to why you think we should pay any attention to what you have to say. Given your crimes."
Sanary Rondel "That would be a smart tactical decision, wouldn't it?" Kanon replies to Zenos without turning around right away, watching someone reporting on a skirmish between loyalists and rebels for a few moments longer. "I imagine our dear Princess Serena doesn't want to get them hurt with more fighting, but the longer she waits, the more it happens anyway. She's been meeting with those Resistance fops to keep them in line lately, so that's my best guess on that." He nods slowly in agreement with Stella and Cordelay, offering Riku a shrug afterwards. "I suspect she'll be around soon enough. The invitation was sent."

"Of course, you must realize these people would probably fight even harder against the Garleans if that happened. The Resistance was foolish enough to start fighting without a clear plan, and the khans aren't going to give up their own power so easily." Using that strangely chosen word instead of nobles or warlords or something for some reason, he turns to Tomoe and Chrollo. "That's the million dollar question, isn't it? Right now, they're divided by that very question and their own answers."

He might be getting his phrasing from the same source that old hermit did.

"So what if I broke some of /your/ laws? It's not this kingdom's laws. I made this kingdom's law." He shoots a glance at Krusty that's cold at first, but relaxes moments later with a light shrug. "... But you have a point there. Truthfully, I don't care if you listen or not. Ignore me if you're fine with letting the kingdom crumble.." He smirks briefly, then turns back to the screens as a commercial for low-MP batteries starts to play.

"You know as well as I that humans are prone to fighting for the dumbest reasons. If the Garleans tried to take over, they would likely unite just for having a common foe. But what if I told you there was someone else that could be that enemy instead?"

Kanon taps his staff on the floor, and the study darkens into almost pitch blackness as only he and the Elites are visible. The Royal Knights can still be heard, though, as well as everything else around them. Nothing happens, though, and light returns moments later as Kanon shakes his head.

"... No, that takes too long. You remember the Sky and Earth Spirits I mentioned last time, yes?" He gives a nod towards Note. "They still yet live, watching us from above and plotting against us from below. I believe with your combined might, we are finally in a position to fight back. They will act as our common enemy, the people will rally behind all of you as their saviors, and I'll be known as the one that put it all together. Everybody wins."

The stomping of armored boots echoes through the hallway leading to the study, marking the arrival of (actual princess in Christmas colors) Serena and (false prince in skinny jeans) Valgar. They don't appear all that pleased, apparently having heard that last part somehow. "You would willingly throw the kingdom's ^people into another war and still seek power for yourself after all this?" Serena snaps incredulously while Valgar simply glares at the wizard, although he doesn't actually say anything for the time being.

Kanon laughs. "Yes. Why not? Do any of you have a better plan?" That has Serena furrowing her brow and Valgar remaining silent as before.
August Kohler August Kohler is only slightly late. He comes on the tail-end of people talking, overhearing the offer of the Garleans taking over the kingdom (which makes him frown, a little, but it's up to Serena), and is dressed in a thick coat, hiding his revolver and combat knife, gloves and long sleeves covering his hands and arms as the young redhead immediately moves to settle in with the others, near Krusty, and consider what Kanon has to say.

And as soon as Kanon mentions 'that enemy instead', August nods, and prepares to speak up, especially as Kanon gives his reminder. But Serena and Valgar come in. Serena snaps, and one would expect August to back her up. But...

"Serena. If these spirits are truly as Kanon said, it's when they appear that's a problem, not if. If we can band together, /humanity/ can win and avenge itself and stop themselves from being threatened again by these beings. Kanon shouldn't have any power over the kingdom any more, absolutely not..." But there's a glance to both Kanon and Zenos. "But perhaps we can utilize his expertise, and instead of execute him or lock him in a dungeon forever, let him be known as someone who did something, and then maybe requested to retire from the shady leadership business. Exile somewhere else, perhaps." Another glance to Zenos.

August takes a breath. If these spirits really fucked over humanity, they're a threat. And they need to be dealt with. "He's right that the kingdom is in shambles. We need to fight for it. We need to protect it, unify it. If you have a better plan, I'll genuinely try and stick to that. But for now, his is the best we've got."
Krusty     Krusty turns as the princess and prince enter the room. He places his hand to his chest as he bows, "Princess Serena, it is an honour to see you again."

Getting of royalty complete, Krusty returns to the matter at hand and turns back to Kanon, "We still only have YOUR word regarding the spirits and their intentions. Thus far we've not seen any evidence of their ill intent or even hints that they are a threat at this point in time. Nor any indication to their strength and our chances of victory. Starting a war in such a situation seems stupid at best."

Krusty glances around at everyone present, "Clearly the first objective should be to gather concrete information on the threat the spirits pose. A wise decision cannot be made without appropriate information. Else we risk starting a war that will result in this kingdom's destruction."
Cordelay Levail "The threat of a common foe can do wonders to unify a fractured people, it's true. However, if you're seen as the mastermind behind our victory, it's you the people will rally around. Do you intend to use this as an excuse to seize power for yourself?" Cordelay fixes Kanon with a severe gaze. "I do agree that facing these spirits is just what's needed to make this kingdom whole again. What I'm not sure of is that appointing you as supreme commander is the wisest option."

She looks to each of the others in turn before asking, "I would like to hear everyone's opinion on this, however. I did not personally participate in the events leading up to this, so I welcome the input of those who did."
Note     "So I have a question." Note announces rather firmly, folding her arms while still kicking her legs out like pendulums restlessly. "You seem to be the only guy talking about these Spirits. But we haven't seen 'em. I don't feel great about just coming in swinging at something if I haven't even gotten a chance to see if it even WANTS to fight. Where do we find these spirits? When's the last time you saw one or talked to one? I wanna make SURE you're not pulling our legs."
Zenos yae Galvus Zenos' head turns towards Stella, and he simply nods once, "My mistake then, Kingdom," he corrects himself without much concern.  However, his gaze falls on Tomoe as they make their...comment about Garlemald.  He looks towards her for a long time, the helmet betraying no emotion.

"I do not remember you, nor do you have the look of an Eorzian.  However, despite what the 'Warrior of Light' may say, and that his allies would like to believe the Garleans are not savages, we deal in diplomacy as an initial attempt.  We have also moved in interventions such as with the situation in Ala Mhigo."

Cordelay gets a look next, before he speaks carefully and charismatically, "The longer that we wait, the more likely civil war will break out, which can spread into other places nearby to it.  Those who become tributaries of their own free will reap a huge benefit, as well as keep most of their autonomy.  In the future, I would ask that you do not compare us to such barbaric empires you may have experience with."

"I do not believe in dancing around the obvious issues, young man," Zenos comments to Riku, "Especially in such a situation as we now find ourselves in."

Krusty gets a side glance, "I have seen the strength of this kingdom, and I have found it wanting.  It is more likely that they will fall to infighting before the year's end.  I, given your alliance, do not expect you to understand the finer points of how law and order work."

"It would be, yes." Zenos says towards Kanon, "But your point is also a valid one.  Something to unite the people first, before bringing in a swift rule is the best plan."

The Princess gets a look, "And you would ignore a threat to your world?  You would overlook that while you may dislike war right now your people NEED something to rally behind.  Or do you think you truly can win their hearts?  As has been shown in these last few months, neither of you are capable of doing this."

"As for needing proof, I have examined Kanon's evidence so far, as well as records in looking into this and have found it compelling.  I will allow the wizard to present his own evidence to you, but I expect you to dismiss this out of hand as well.  If you try and talk to the spirits, do avoid divulging everything?" Zenos says dismissively towards Krusty.
Stella     "The people do not need to war," Stella points out, simple. "We are powerful enough to start and end a war on our own. It is pointless to put civilians on the line of fire, for they will simply die and you will lose valuable resources. It is pointless to put ill-equipped combatants up front as anything but shields, for they will get in the way of your competent warriors."

    In other words...

"If it is necessary, we can wipe out these spirits without involving the kingdom. That said, involving the knights would be a sound strategy. They are loyal and powerful, at least as units."

    A look towards Valgar.

    "Some even without units."

    Then to Serena.

"It is not my place to take these decisions, at any rate. I will follow those with the power to take and carry them out."
Riku "It's a solution." Riku says with a shrug to Zenos.

More information comes out and Riku listens to the entire thing. Yeah, so the spirits are out there. "So your plan is to use us /and/ these people to take out these spirits? At least you're honest." Riku grimaces. He doesnt's even sound entirely opposed to it.

He turns over to Serena and Valgar as they enter, however, and gives them a wave. "Hello. Serena, you're the /actual/ person who's supposed to be in charge, right?" He looks over to Valgar, tilts his head at the giant muscles and even more giant pauldrons. "Okay, I have a better idea." He points to Serena. "Put Serena in charge. The King abdicates, since he was just a puppet for the wizard anyway. Valgar sticks with Serena. You look like a warrior. Let's have you lead the army."

He looks back. "And then you go public about what the spirits were doing and why they need to be resisted. Valgar leads the army and proves himself to the people while Serena leads the people. We help where necessary. Civil war is prevented, the princess is restored, the prince fights for his people, and the source of the problem is solved."
Tomoe So the talk gets going she listens to Kanon at least willing to hear him out, it doesn't hurt to listen and she lists taking note of what is being said right now. She also takes note of some new faces showing up here too she takes note of Cordelay and of Chrollo trying to size them up. "We should see what the Princess wants, as well if she makes a call it might get her supporters to roll with it."

Then both the False Prince and the Princess arrive.

"So it's been a while what do you two /want/ to do?"

She looks to the Princess for a moment.

"You do have a call to make, and I'm curious and I'm open to hearing other plans. Let's be honest I'm small tactics and a wall of meat."

August speaks up and that gives her something to chew on and she'll then look to Krusty.

"Charging in screaming our own names will pretty much end badly. So digging for info would be a good idea. August? You make a point there but running off without some intel would be unwise."

She does not like the idea of letting Kanon lead things. She also seems to be trying to figure out an alternative to that.
Chrollo Lucilfer Chrollo taps his chin, taking in all of the information. He eyes the others curiously, though Note in particular has the man briefly raising his brows. He has, in fact, never seen a saiyan before. The tail certainly catches interest for a moment before he pulls himself to the matter at hand.

Eventually he finds a chair to occupy, crossing a leg, before he speaks. August gets a curious glance. The oncoming royalty get the same polite nod he's given everyone else. Meteor City makes one not particularly worshipful of those higher up in society.

"I'll admit, using a common enemy to focus all sides' efforts seems the most efficient."

The lack of information /is/ troubling, and as for Kanon's ambitions? Well, it's points in his favor as far as things go. Zenos in particular has Chrollo pondering. He's silent for a few moments.

"Contacting the spirits and deciding ourselves might be best. Depending on their actions, we could even use them to our advantages if we learn enough. Manipulating them into striking the Kingdom, with ourselves to minimize any damage..."

He peeks back to royalty. "A group of fairytale heroes bringing peace to the land, halting the predations of an ancient enemy. That'd be a wonderful way to stop this war, wouldn't it?"

Riku gets a nod as well from Chrollo. The young man's strategy seems to call to him.
August Kohler Chrollo gets a frown from August. A sharp one. "While we need to deal with these guys, we shouldn't risk the kingdom as part of some gambit just to appear like heroes. If what Kanon says is true, and I believe him, these spirits have done enough to warrant being dealt with." Though there's a glance to Krusty, some consideraiton, and a nod. "Scouting is useful, though I'm not sure how I feel about any sort of parlay. More to see their numbers than anything."

Riku gets the most affirmation. "I like that plan. Serena in charge, Valgar leads the army, Kanon uses his knowledge to make sure we don't get blindsided and, I don't know, maybe we give him some sort of commendation and a nice retreat to Somewhere-Elsia, and the threat is dealt with."
Riku "And if Kanon tries to take over again, he dies." Riku says simply, putting it on the table ahead of time before the wizard gets any more ideas.
Krusty     Krusty gives Zenos a bit of a wry smile, "I highly doubt you understand what it means to live as an Adventurer, Lord Zenos. Nor what it takes to create order amongst such individuals. But I will not try to educate you, as I doubt you care and this is not the time."

"You also seem to believe that I will dismiss any evidence without consideration. Which is false. If the wizard has any to produce, then let him and I will examine it closely. But so far all we've been provided with is what amounts to a fairy tale from long ago."

Krusty then nods to August, "I too would not advise contacting the spirits directly as a first move. Even first contact talks, if they are an option, work better with more information. Covert reconnaissance would be most ideal to begin with. Although I will admit the logistics of such acts against 'spirits' is unclear to me."

Krusty turns to look at Kanon, "I assume, since you are advocating war against them, that you have some idea of the spirits location and how to reach them?"
Cordelay Levail Cordelay nods. "Master Riku's plan does seem sound. However, I am concerned about the prospect of splitting civil and military command between two individuals. If Master Valgar is given command of the army and later attempts to rise against Princess Serena, the risk is high that the army will follow him and the kingdom will descend into internal strife once more. This is dangerous enough in the current moment - if the realm is still recovering from a war with the spirits, it could be destroyed entirely."

She looks between the royals with a thoughtful expression. "The way I see it, it's a safer bet to either establish Master Valgar as king with both civil and military control, or to appoint a supreme commander with less potential risk of seeking to seize power for themselves. If there are any particularly competent generals among Princess Serena's resistance forces they would fit the bill perfectly. However, neither option seems preferable to the other in my eyes."
Zenos yae Galvus "Hm..." Zenos seems to consider the current plan, "This seems like a plan that could work, the king should leave.  The princess should take the throne, and the Prince should take command of the army," And this certainly won't backfire at all.  Zenos is already working mentally on how to work this to his advantage.

Krusty speaks to him, and he laughs.  "You assume that you are unique to 'Adventurers'.  I have seen your kind come and go, and I have killed more than my fair share of 'them'.  What order requires is unity and strength.  Everything else steams from these concepts."

Towards Cordelay, he stares, "You are simply setting the stage for an insurrection down the line.  Forcing the current rulership out is not something that will help the situation at all.  Besides, the Resistance, as it is called, is a literal garbage fire of peasants.  If it was not for the intercession of myself, Mr. Kohler, and Dr. Strange, this country would be in the control of Kanon."
Sanary Rondel "I... Am familiar with the legends, true. But I can't be certain that they do or don't exist." Serena replies to August, the troubled frown remaining on her face even as she returns Krusty's bow. "It's true that we do not know if they're around or not, but we can't ignore that threat. And if that threat can be removed through uniting against them, that may be what the kingdom needs to begin healing."

"/If/ they exist." Valgar scoffs, finally piping up as he approaches the group complete with hand in pocket. "Like the ape-girl said, we'd need some kind of proof they're even a threat. Gathering intel is one thing, but the Knights won't be satisfied sitting around knowing that we're only thinking about doing something if it exists."

Kanon, meanwhile, purses his lips before nodding at Cordelay. "Yes, that is my plan. Entirely. Why not let an old man have a few more minutes of stardom while he's still not too senile?" He laughs, then turns to Valgar and Note. "The Sky Spirits' domain is in the sky. I've glimpsed their palace from afar, but the Earth Spirits will be trickier. They hide underground ever since we helped the Sky Spirits banish them, but their goblin scouts still roam the forests."

Stella gets a smirk from Kanon. "I've seen your power compared to theirs. It won't be easy, but you should manage well enough as the frontline if you so wish to keep the people from putting their necks on the line."

Zenos' shot at the fake and real royals draws irritated stares from both of them. Just because it's true doesn't mean they have to like it! "Keeping them out of the line of fire would be ideal, but if it's a way of saving more of them compared to the alternatives..." Serena starts with a sigh, looking towards Valgar to see his reaction.

He, too, seems displeased. "... Tch. If it's not Kanon angling for more power, it'd just be Zur or someone else, anyway. If it works, though, then I'll do it." Riku's suggestion, meanwhile, seems to get their attention as they look between each other and the gathered Elites.

"The appearance of legitimacy through accomplishment..."
"... And traditional authority by blood at the same time?"

That seems to get them on the same page. Kanon, meanwhile, laughs as the royals seem to both be on board. "Good, good! If we're all on the same page about that, then... Oh. I could be the supreme com-"

"NO." "NO."

Kanon looks between the prince/princess, then sighs and shrugs at Cordelay. "I tried." Serena, meanwhile, shakes her head. "The Resistance lacks anyone with that sort of experience, I'm afraid. Besides, I would rather not expose..." She shoots Zenos a look. "Untrained citizens to that much risk when the Royal Knights are already led by the best of the best in our kingdom."

"My kingdom." Valgar corrects. Serena sighs and shakes her head again.

Kanon, meanwhile, is still belly-laughing it up. "Perfect. Now... As for finding these spirits. Tracking down the Earth Spirits through their goblin scouts should be a matter of time. The Sky Spirits... We'll need to find a way to reach their palace in the sky without being shot down. Our golems are strong, but they aren't fast enough to outmaneuver even myself."
Sanary Rondel      There's a small commotion from the hallways as more stomping comes echoing down, and the color drains from Serena's face as she hoofs it right to the entrance. "Let him through! SK, continue on standby!" She breathes a sigh of relief before moving back towards the gathered Elites, soon followed by a skeleton clad in gold armor with a massive sword dragging along the ground in its hand.

Serena looks like she's done with this shit, Valgar looks displeased, Kanon's still snickering, and the Royal Knights on guard just give it a wide berth.
Riku Kanon's comment to Cordelay gets a grimace. "You want to know why you don't get more stardom? Because you're a /traitor/." Riku says, looking to the wizard. "Since when did you think that doing that gets you /rewarded/?"

He then turns to Valgar. "She's the rightful heir to the throne, isn't she? Do you have a problem with that?" His question is direct, but not accusatory. Yet. "Get it all on the table so we can get it handled."

Then there's the arrival of the skeleton. Riku makes a 'are you freaking kidding me' face. "What the hell is this?" He asks.
Zenos yae Galvus "And here I thought you appreciated honesty, how disappointing," Zenos says towards the Princess.  "Perhaps it is because it is not in your favor this time?" There is a pause, "There may be hope for you yet."

However, Zenos is amused by the game Kanon is playing and appreciates the man's attempt to get into a position of power.  Even if it is shut down very dramatically.  Still, he continues to observe the situation...of course, the young Prince seems to be acting as expected.

The Skeleton walks in and gets a dismissive look from Zenos.  "Some necromantic ritual.  The sword apparently animates it.  Disappointing, as the sword would have been nice to add to my collection.  Sadly it is worthless," he comments to Riku.
Note     Note stares briefly at Kanon. OF COURSE the SKy Spirits are in the sky... she thonks herself on the noggin' as if scolding herself for the idiocy of not thinking of that. "I could give it a shot at getting up there! But... if it's just me, I dunno how much good that'd do."

Many crazy things have been said today. Plenty enough to have her head swimming.

But her attention's then yoinked over to the doorway as... in comes Bones.

After a few moments of wide-eyed amazement, Note grips the desk's edge and leans forward playfully, still swinging her legs. "Oh hey! Was wondering where you got to. If only you could talk I'd wonder if YOU know anything about these Spirits..."
August Kohler Kanon gets a sigh, but it seems they have a battle plan. "If we all like this idea, good. We can let the tacticians refine it. Regarding getting to the sky palace..." There's a consideration, and August turns to Zenos. "You have airships, right? Do you think they'd be able to get there without getting shot down?"

When SK appears, August moves to answer the new people's obvious confusion. "This is SK." He pronounces it 'Skuh'. "He's the skeleton of the royal family's protector, and wields a holy sword. He's on our side."

And then, tapping his foot, the redhead considers. "I guess the important question is this. Do we focus on the Earth Spirits or the Sky Spirits first?"
Chrollo Lucilfer Chrollo gives one of his little nods at that sharp frown. His shrug is almost casual. "It would be a risk, true. I don't believe in limiting our actions in case sacrifices or ploys would be useful, but if it's not palatable, then ensuring we can choose the time and place of confronting these spirits when they're weakest would be best."

He motions over to Krusty's words about information and recon. Spirits...Chrollo blinks twice.

It seems there's a plan on the political end of things, and so the Troupe member lets the bickering amongst the royalty continue without his interruption. Instead, his attention turns to Kanon once more.

"After they turned on humanity, how were the Sky Spirits reached? Are there military-grade airships in this world?"

Suddenly! Skeleton!? Chrollo stands up, though hardly looks alarmed. Quite the opposite: fascinated at the walking golden-armored bag of bones.

"...Is this the work of magic?" He wonders aloud, and then Zenos confirms it. He's already cautiously approaching the skeleton. August continues, and Chrollo hmmm's. He weighs options here, pondering.

Note though, has Chrollo's attention wandering as he puts two and two together. "Miss, are you implying that you're able to fly?" Forgive the man, he's new to this Multiverse stuff.

Oh, and he experimentally tries to shake SK's hand as he looks for any sign of Aura around the boney knight. That same glance is given to Note, for that matter.
Stella     "It would be optimal to focus on the ones we can reach right now while preparing the trip to reach the others. Therefore, dealing with the Earth Spirits first while ships and plans are prepared to reach the fortress intact would save time and effort."

They're kind of stuck waiting for the preparations one way or the other. They may as well use the time to do something productive, Stella reasons.

A glance at the spoopy skeleton.
Then Stella's blank stare returns to Kanon.

"Flight is a common power," Stella responds to Chrollo matter-of-factly. "It is problematic to deal with when you cannot do it. I wish to learn, eventually, for the tactical advantage is too great to pass."
Note     The barest of breezes seems to drift from Note as she's asked that question. Keeping her gaze on Chrollo the entire time, the little youth floats right off the desk. A few inches. Then a foot. In a few moments she's floating near the ceiling.

"It's easy to do!" She announces down to him, arms still folded. A bit of a wild grin starts to spread across her lips.
Krusty     Krusty adjusts his glasses at Zenos, "And those words are proof of how little you know about us." But enough about that. There's finally some useful information provided by the wizard.

Krusty considers the two forms of spirits and their locations, "From the sounds of it, the Earth Spirits probably won't be too difficult to gather information on. The isolation afforded the Sky Spirits home is the greater obstacle. Getting in quietly without being seen could be difficult. Large forms of aerial transport will likely be spotted far away. So a small means of individual transportation would be ideal. Possibly magical teleportation. Hmm, they may have means of detecting such approaches too. Perhaps dropping in from far above? It would be a simple matter to equip any operatives with personal gliders."

Oh look, it's the skeleton. Krusty is briefly distracted by the warrior's arrival as he idly wonders, "I'm guessing he cannot rest until the kingdom is whole and stable once gain? Or the true royal family is restored to proper power?"
Tomoe Tomoe did catch the look from Zenos for a moment she geta an answer this is not yelling that is not insulting. "I have had some experience there in the past and I will make note of that. I'm afraid I can't comment on Ala Mhigo only what I have experienced."

There was a very good point if they sat around the powder keg that was this Kingdom could go off and then they'd really have an issue. She also learns a bit more about how they rule which is Important to know. They don't micromanage things if they do not have to.

"It seems I have more to learn."

Maybe at some point she should go see the Empire for herself and see what it's like there? They have other matters to tend to.

As Riku brings up his idea and combined with August own she seems to like it It also seems both the prince and princess are on board with this idea. That is good in her mind and then SK makes his? Its? Way in and she gives the undead warrior a nod.

"I guess you wanted to listen in?"

She notes to the undead warrior, she's honestly not sure if anyone's home but she'll act on the side of someone may be.

She gives Kanon a look.

"Consider this do you value your fame more or mankind suriving here?"
Riku SK gets explained. Riku shrugs. "OK, fine." He dismisses the skeleton at that, turning away. Looks like his only problem was SURPRISE NECROMANCY.

August asks who to focus first. "Sky." Riku says. "We know where they are. If I can get up there, I can bring you guys or whoever along too. Or I'll just deal with them and you guys focus on the Earth Spirits. Whichever."
Sanary Rondel Kanon smiles at Riku like a kindly old man for a moment. "It's happened before." He gestures at the study as if that answers all of that about rewards and betrayal.

To be fair, it's a pretty swanky study.

"That is a hero from the time of my parents' rule." Serena explains as the skeleton warrior comes to stop beside her. She nudges it ever so slightly to get him to stand off to the side so as to not just... Be in the middle of everyone trying to actually talk.

"You could be useful to scout them out, track their movements." Kanon suggests to Note, chuckling when she tries to speak to SK. Understandably, the skeleton just shakes its head.

"Humanity hasn't reached the Sky Spirits since they banished us to remaining here. In the Age of Magic, many wizards could fly freely. After they turned on humanity, though, only a few of us capable of flying remained." Kanon demonstrates by just lifting off the ground, doing rapid ascent and dive to the ground effortlessly before turning back to a CRT.

It's going to be cold tomorrow.

"Airships? No, ships are firmly grounded for us. I haven't perfected the design of something that can fly and hold troops just yet, but given enough time.." Kanon strokes his beard. "Perhaps in another year or three..."

Shaking his head, he turns back to Stella. "We can worry about pipe dream designs later. Finding the Earth Spirits would be easier. It'll take some time, but I'm sure the Royal Knights have their eyes that can probe wherever they please." He laughs as Valgar smirks as his sole response to that, and then he turns to Tomoe with an amused smirk as well.

"My survival. Humans can be replaced, but there is only one of myself. Of course, this kingdom needs me if it's to survive the coming battles, so why not both?"
Cordelay Levail As the conversation turns to military matters, Cordelay's eyes shine just a bit. "If we have two forces to defeat and only one is currently reachable, the answer is obvious. Just as has already been stated we must focus our efforts on the Earth Spirits while researching how to reach, gather intelligence on and finally defeat the Sky Spirits." Cordelay allows herself a small grin as she runs through possibilities in her head. "Besides, it's probable that most of us will need time to prepare for combat with flying foes. Those doctrines can be formulated while dealing with the Earth Spirits."
Zenos yae Galvus "A year or three?  That might get you a single flying aircraft that still needs a lot of work to get going.  Instead, I shall do my part in this.  Garlemald has more than enough ships to get us and an army to the sky.   More than that, our ships are not so easily at the mercy of a fickle series of sky eikons." Zenos says, with an air of superiority.

"Then do not speak on subjects you do not know of.  Once more, as I have explained to your 'Warrior of Light' if you are speaking of van Balsar, then he was acting on his own.  The rest of the empire was dealing with internal problems at that time." He says directly to Tomoe.

"Garlemald also has forces and weapons that can fly as well as ones that do not.  What I have shown is only a small portion of what the empire can do," He comments.  "So no, both groups are within our grasp.  As was explained, with the Ground Eikons trapped as they are, the bigger threat would be those of the sky."
Riku "I've changed my mind." Riku says. "You're an untrustworthy snake even now." He steps towards Kanon. "I should kill you right now before you get any more ideas." Even as he speaks, darkness washes out in his hand, his eyes narrowing as a long blade forms in his hand, dark in aspect and looking mostly like it is forged from a bat's wing. Bone-white proturbences edge the hilt, and the crossguard is surmounted by a blinking azure eye.

"Then you'll know all about the real rewards you deserve."
Zenos yae Galvus There is a flash, it would be next to impossible to perceive it, but in a moment Zenos has drawn his weapon and has placed it between Riku and Kanon.  The helmet of the Garlean looks right towards the young man, which is all very surprising because a moment ago he seemed to simply lumber around.

"I think you should put your weapon away before you get hurt," Zenos says with the air of menace.  "You would find yourself very outmatched even if the others did not intervene."

"Judgement of this man is not yours to make.  Attempt to strike him down, and I shall pass judgment on you."
Chrollo Lucilfer Stella's explaination and Note's demonstration has Chrollo's more greedy side rising. The Spider's gaze narrows briefly as he watches with rapt attention, only to force himself to calm back down. The placid man finally cracks an intrigued and almost warm smile.

"Such a wonder. I'm impressed, that would indeed give a person many advantages in combat and infiltraition. Miss. Let's talk, after this matter is settled please."

The man abandons the golden skeleton long enough to reach into a pocket and pull out a card and a sharp looking ink pen. He puts down a number, offering it over to Note.

The saiyan is, for now, kept at an easily seen glance. Chrollo truly seems distracted by the display of power. Kanon's display is no less eyed like it were a precious jewel.

Zenos and his Empire have airships. Military ones, from the sounds of things. "Given the combined resources and abilities..." He nods towards Riku and Note. "I'm inclined to agree we should eliminate the Sky Spirits first. A decisive blow too may give those wishing to continue their fighting more reason to wait."

Chrollo doesn't seem intent on stopping Riku as he summons that sword with a wash of darkness. Instead, he observes.

"He has useful information." Offers Chrollo to Riku. Whether the two start fighting? Well, they're neither Spider nor Concord, and so he'll hang back a bit.
Stella     For a moment it seemed as though Stella was going to move, but then it's irrelevant, so she doesn't. Instead she looks back towards Chrollo and Note, and Note's casual display of flight.

    That sure would be handy.
August Kohler Honestly, August is entirely fine if Kanon dies. But August is also playing weird gambits for the first time and more importantly, needs Kanon's knowledge of where the Sky Spirits are. But, he's not going to stop Riku. Riku mentioned playing bad cop, and Zenos has him blocked. So instead...

"Kanon. You're not being forthright with us. Tell us where the sky spirits are located. Give us data. Immediately. Maybe then our friend here won't decide to stab you. We're working to protect this kingdom. You're working for your survival. It doesn't have to be a fight."

August shifts, stance becoming more dominant. "But if you continue to jerk us around like this and only tell us as much as we need to rely on you, it's going to be a bit of a problem for everyone. Work with us more. We could have killed you before, couldn't have we? We didn't, did we?"

"Whatcha gonna do?"
Cordelay Levail Cordelay reaches for her blades as the threat of combat suddenly rises. "Yes, Master Riku, please restrain yourself. We can deal with this man at a later date." Her voice carries an edge like steel under her normally courteous tone as she glares at the young man.

Looking to Zenos, she says with much less hostility, "Also, Sir General, if what you say is true then your assistance would certainly make this war easier. In that case I must change my thoughts - the Sky Spirits should indeed be our first target. The royal knights can handle the defense against the Earth Spirits while we, with Garlemald's assistance, can take the fight to the Sky." She nods respecfully to the Garlean, duly impressed by the revelation.
Krusty     Krusty shows no signs of interfering in Riku's attempt to stab Kanon, nor Zenos's attempt to stop him. The wizard's usefulness is quickly growing thin but neither does Krusty have any particular desire for the man's death... For now.

Trying to bring focus back to the matter at hand, Krusty says, "It seems we have a majority agreement for the Sky Spirits to be the primary focus for the moment. No doubt the details of the information gathering and then assault, if the kingdom's leaders so choose to engage in war, can be worked out in time. But as tempers are flaring, perhaps a recess is in order?"
Sanary Rondel The trio of Kanon, Serena, and Valgar all seem rather surprised at the apparent flight-capabilities on display and announced by those in the room. Kanon's the first to respond. "Yes, learning how to fight against flying opponents would take time. I've already learned it back in the day, but I don't know how many of you have done the same. The Earth Spirits have their gargoyles and other flying enemies, but I imagine they would not make up the core of their forces."

Valgar is the next to speak, turning to Zenos. "We'll use your machines, but the Royal Knights can fight as well. We still have our pride, and our swords are sharp enough for any flying bastards up there." He taps the handle of one of his blades for emphasis, and even Serena's smirking slightly as she taps her gauntlet against her sword's sheath.

"It wouldn't hurt to learn from their expertise in fighting airborne enemies, at the very least. My magic should work against the flying enemies as well."

Riku steps up to threaten Kanon, and Zenos moves in to defend the same. The wizard keeps still, looking between the two while August plays the good cop to Riku's bad cop. Serena and Valgar both don't seem too keen on defending him, so it's up to August and the others to keep him from getting stabbed!

Or actually complying. After weighing his options for a few moments, the wizard nods slowly before pointing at one of the tables with the many binders on it. "I've been tracking their palace's movements for some time now. It never stays in the same place, but it passes overhead every... Other week or so?"

Kanon grumbles. "It's fast, too, so we should intercept it rather than chase. I'll need to review my notes and track them down again, and then I'll know the best time to attack." He looks from person to person. "... Assuming we're in agreement on going after the Sky Spirits first."

Krusty's suggestion gets a nod from Kanon as well. "Unless there's any further questions, I'll have messengers contact the lot of you about the time to attack. We can meet here-" He pauses just long enough to get an incredulous look from Valgar for inviting everyone back to the castle /again/. "-and gain the King's blessing before we leave. Will that be all?"
Riku The blade flashes in front of Riku, and before it's even stopped moving, Riku's own blade is crossed with it, a firm pressure pushing back against Zenos' 'warning'. "I think you've got a hell of an opinion of yourself." He replies. "I don't answer to you or your Empire. Last time I checked, /she/ was the ruler here, not you." He jerks his head back towards Serena. Cordelay makes her own argument, and Riku shrugs. "Later on can be too late." That seems to be his only response to Cordelay.

He does, however, simply ask of Serena. "So, Princess. This wizard is going to betray you the moment he gets another chance to do so. Tell me if you want him to live or not. Give your order."

Apparently, the fact that he technically coughed up the information doesn't stop him at all, nor does the threat of incipient violence.
Note     With Riku darting in and the atmosphere growing hostile so quickly, Note frets up there near the ceiling. Her tail swiftly curls 'round her waist and she plummets back down, landing with a 'thump' on the desk. Standing on it though, this time. It's a bad place and time for a fight.

"Yeah, I don't trust gramps here either. But..." Everyone else has far more words than she could offer. Note sighs huffily, just glad blood hasn't started flying everywhere yet.

A curious glance is aimed at Chrollo. "O-Okay?" She's not sure what that means...

Finally she returns to sitting on the edge of the desk, hands now on her knees. "I don't care how fast the clouds move, bet I can catch 'em! Could scout the whole sky in maybe an hour or two... this world isn't HUGE right?"
Tomoe Tomoe says "I see, I do have more to learn."

She leave it there but that does explain things Gaius did a thing when command was not looking more or less. She's about to say more however she is about to say more when Riku makes the choice to seemingly off Kanon here. She does not like the man, no. They do need the information he has on things still and the smug wizard is well aware of that. She will get up ready to intervene at this point.

She keeps ready to move August drops some very good points.

"So back to your notes? I see."

Riku keeps pushing things maybe it is the smart call to do so, she doesn't agree however at least not yet. Then he pushes the call to the Princess and waits to see how this goes. This is the Princess' call and Riku has forced the issue.
Sanary Rondel Valgar appears to take some offense at Riku's belief that Serena is the rightful ruler. Serena, meanwhile, ignores the prince's gaze to step towards Riku. She looks from his darkness-formed blade to Zenos' in turn, then to Kanon who's got the shit-eating grin of someone that's practically yelling 'he's got a point there'.

"... If I cannot deal with a single traitor when that time comes, then perhaps the line of Valgar would be better suited to ruling the kingdom. I'll treat it as a test."

Kanon, meanwhile, keeps still while nodding towards Note. "It's large enough. Even at my phyical peak, it had taken me over a day to circle the world. And that was before the Sky Spirits kept their eyes focused on us."
August Kohler "Sky spirits it is, then." August agrees, as Riku pushes the issue and makes it Serena's decision. Eyes darting between everyone, now that they have reached this point. To Serena, August continues. "I'll support your decisions, whatever it is." Especially now that they have the information.

And then, Serena makes her decision, and August steps over to the standoff. He's not there to make sure Riku doesn't start something, though he'd absolutely prefer if he didn't. He's there to make sure Zenos doesn't, because Riku is his ally, even if August isn't making that public right now. "So, we all good? We've got a plan of an attack. We just need to make time to meet the king and slay some spirits." Yes, it's recon first, but August is pretty sure the recon will back up his methods.
Zenos yae Galvus Zenos holds his blade easily enough, after a time, he starts pushing back slowly to test Riku's sword arm.  There is a tense moment between them, as it could easily break into a fight.  Zenos does not look like he is going to back down either...

However, the Princess makes her judgment.

"It appears that the Princess has made her choice. Will you abide by it?" Zenos says, almost as if he doesn't want him to accept it.
Chrollo Lucilfer Note's confusion is met by a chuckle from Chrollo. As she lands, he finally seems to lose interest. As things turn to the matter of Kanon's life or death, and Serena claims the backstabbing mage as hers to deal with?

"This should be an interesting challenge." Mutters Chrollo to himself, even as he goes back to perusing Kanon's study for the most choice of interesting texts.

One or two might dissappear into that coat, should he have a moment when people aren't paying attention to him. He is still very much the bandit and thief.
Riku Riku presses against the sword. He holds up against Zenos for a few seconds, but then Zenos begins to overpower him... until shadows start swirling up his arm, the boy beginning to escalate appropriately as the weapons hold tight against each other once more. Steel grinds against steel, like nails on a chalkboard, sparks beginning to crackle from the two weapons meeting as the standoff continues to escalate...

Serena decides he gets to live. Riku nods, and steps back, banishing his blade back to the darkness. "Suit yourself." He says to Serena. He wastes no more time on the standoff. Before Kanon can get too smug, though... "But the moment I find out you've turned on her, wizard... I will kill you." He says simply.

After that, he simply turns back to the wizard and Zenos. "Get the information. Stage the interception. We have everything we need."

He doesn't answer Zenos directly. His actions seem to do enough to handle that.
Zenos yae Galvus Zenos returns the blade to the SWORD REVOLVER as soon as Riku draws the blade away and dismisses it again.  After a time, he turns towards the Prince and speaks calmly.

"Garlemald will support the Kingdom on this, we will train your nights as the assault is prepared.  For that, however, I need permission to move troops into the Kingdom to support such an assault.  The details can be worked on later."

With that, he turns to walk away, "Now I must go prepare my forces.  The Empire marches on these Eikons."
Cordelay Levail Cordelay removes her hands from her sword hilts, a look of relief flashing briefly across her face. Though not afraid to intervene, she's glad that the confrontation didn't descend into a fight between allies. "Thank you, Master Riku. This is an inopportune time for us to fight among ourselves." The young woman looks to each of her newfound allies in turn. "We are blessed to have so many powerful warriors among us. With this much talent on our side, victory is barely in question."

She turns to Serena and clasps a fist to her chest in a warrior's salute. "Your Highness, I will lend all my strength to your cause in this war. I swear it on the name of my lord father, Sartaire the Dragon. By your leave." With her oath declared she sweeps out of the room, a small smile playing across her lips.
