Sarracenia      In the interest of displaying the might of the Sundew Kingdom...and just to have fun, Sarracenia has challenged Mortimer Balman to a Shrine fight! The princess - dressed in her stylish battle dress - is awaiting the fiery furball within one of the arenas already. She is waiting in the middle, twirling slowly with her hammer in the graceful manner that is characteristic of her style despite her loudmouthed natured.

The arena itself? A collection of huge flat mushrooms that form aerial platforms. She is on the largest one currently, which is some hundred meters across. Her black dress stands out quite well against the red mushroom with white spots.
Mortimer Balman      Mort steadily walks along at his own pace, followed by his crew. Ulbrecht slowly pads behind him to avoid walking too far ahead, with Reder and Switchbait asleep on the giant wolf's head. Mort'll signal for the Thunderwolf to stop before hopping into the arena, propping a short katana up on his shoulder and tapping it a few times.

"Alright then, young lady.. ...Let's see what you've got."
Sarracenia      Sarra's twirling comes to a stop as Mortimer approaches and she rests her hammer over her shoulder in much the same way. "Very well." she says before blinking. She stares with sparkly eyes at the huge fluffy wolf and starts toward it before blinking. She mmphs and shakes her head quickly. "R-right. Here I come!"

She dashes toward Mortimer as fast as she can, the broad strips of black leather that make up the skirt of her dress giving small glimpses of strong legs and the red heels she wears. She leaps in a fairly straightforward overhead attack, but when her hammer finally comes down it is like the hammer of a gun. A blur of motion that if it lands not only promises some stars in the vision, but actually unleashes a weak explosion.
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer brings up his arm to catch the hammer. Which it does! There's an ugly noise as his arm is dislocated from its shoulder socket, though, and it makes the old badger grimace.. Especially when he shoves it back into the socket, eyes wide and angry with pain. The anger fades swiftly, though. "Heh. You hit harder than I expected, I'm impressed. Well then.. How well do you take a hit?!"

In one swift motion, Mort has drawn the katana and brought it up at a diagonal angle, to cut across her torso. Though the blade in question is a common soldier's weapon, that does does not mean it isn't still quite sharp.. Just not as sharp as some artisanal blade meant for a noble.
Sarracenia      It may not be an artisan's blade, but it seems to work just fine against the princess. She yelps as she is hit, the blade cutting into the leather across her belly and leaving a bit of red behind. She twirls away, keeping her grip on her hammer despite the wound. "I am admittedly not the most sturdy of opponents." she says through gritted teeth.

As she twirls away from Mortimer, her hammer is rested on her shoulder again. She reaches into her satchel and pulls out...a pair of Bob-ombs! The cute little explosive creatures blink as they are tossed toward Mortimer, and as promised they explode on impact. But, these explosions are of considerably more power than the one her hammer unleashed!
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer brings his arms around his face and kneels as the explosions go off, allowing them to burst around him.. With less harm than one might expect him to have taken. "Pfeh! I hope your vaunted Banzai Bill is better than /that/, little princess!" He flicks the sword at Sarracenia- no, wait, he's thrown it past her. This may or may not distract her from the fact that he's sucking in air, and exhaling a slender but nonetheless boiling hot stream of flames in her direction.
Sarracenia      Although it doesn't pay off all that often, Sarracenia's graceful twirling keeps her moving and balanced enough to avoid the stream of flames this time! With a lucky leap in the right direction she dances away from the flames, then comes to a stop and laughs. "I could say much the same about you, old badger!" she says with a grin.

She runs in toward Mortimer again and goes into a spin. Like a weighted top she twirls her way toward the fiery pokemorph, aiming a flurry of hits with that hammer at him. "Take that and that and that!"
Mortimer Balman      The hammer lands repeatedly across Mortimer's face and torso. Until he finally grabs it and holds it in place. Missing teeth and boiling hot blood oozing to the ground, the old badger looms over the princess and leers. "Well, if you're sure about that.." The temperature begins.. Rising. Enormously. Dangerously, even. And it keeps rising, and rising. It's getting hard to breathe around Mort, as the temperature climbs steadily, and the heat begins to push out the oxygen.. Or worse, begins to ignite small bits of atmosphere around them.

The subsequent explosion is quite impressive. And comes without warning.
Sarracenia      Catching Sarra's hammer is no easy task. It seems to have supernatural force behind it, and stopping it is like trying to stop a wrecking ball. Mortimer might manage it, but Sarra uses the recoil to counter-balance and pulls it free of his grasp before he can unleash his explosive attack.

She leaps away, singed from the blazing inferno but overall unharmed. She looks pretty surprised herself when she realizes she is alright, then laughs and grins. "Hahaha! I knew I was actually amazing, despite what that silly orb said!" she gloats.

She hops away a bit further, then grins even more. Almost sadistically, really. "Alright...you showed me yours, so I shall show you mine!" She looks up at the sky...and a wooden airship that looks very much like an old Spanish galleon floats down from some clouds overhead. "Here it comes! Bonzai Bill!"

A large section of the underhull opens and a cannon big enough that a person could stand up inside the barrel emerges, and with a rattling 'kathunk' a jet black cone with a shark-like face becomes visible. "Fire!!" A deafening 'Kathoom!' and a cloud of smoke are unleashed, along with a shell the size of a tank! And despite being fired from a cannon it doesn't seem to travel all that fast. Just about a fast sprinting speed. But, as promised, it tracks Mortimer for all it is worth. And when it finally hits him (or near him), the explosion is quite unique. Instead of one instant and massive explosion, it unleashes what would seem to be a steady stream of ever growing explosions for several seconds. The last explosion is slightly delayed and of course bigger than the rest, and leaves behind a mushroom cloud that has a more mushroomish shape than most explosion clouds.
Mortimer Balman      Mort's not stupid enough to just STAND THERE and let the damned thing hit him... He is, however, unable to dodge it. Getting old there, Morty. The explosions catch him pretty hard and flat out LAUNCH him up into the air.. Whereupon he falls back through the resultant mushroom cloud into the ground with a very ugly WHAM noise, and the unmistakable crunchings of bone. "Ugh.." There is a Mort-shaped indentation where he lands, but he slowly stands out of it.. Laughing his ass off. "Well fuck me runnin'. That was /damned amazin'/, princess!" It obviously causes him pain to laugh, but he's still doing so. "But.. I'm still standin'." A bloody grin on his face.

Small wisps of flame pop off out of his mouth, little balls of fire that are more to drive her back and give him time to collect himself than anything else.
Sarracenia      Sarracenia can't help a devilish child-like laugh of glee as Mortimer is caught in the explosions. She is still giggling as he speaks up and emerges from his self-shaped crater. She even giggles at his crude language instead of chiding him as she would usually do in such a situation. "I believe it did!" she calls out, then eeps and covers her mouth before blushing a bit.

Already fairly far back to avoid her own attack, Sarracenia is nevertheless pushed back further by the ember shots. Only a few feet from the edge of the mushroom platform she smirks. "Well, you know what they say about old birds..." she says, then rushes in toward him again. "They are tough!" she finishes as she leaps, aiming another overhead swing at him!

...or at least that's how it seems, but instead she pulls the swing into a twirl of her hammer around her waist and shifts the momentum into an uppercut swing!
Mortimer Balman      Mort makes a move to defend.. Only he catches the sledgehammer on the chin and is knocked right the Hell out, his defenses being penetrated by the sudden and surprise twist to her assault. He is out!

And then he's up again as the Shrine's magic begins reversing his injuries. "Oof.. Haw, good strike on that last one, young lady! Yer more treacherous in a fight than I anticipated. Well done!"
Sarracenia      Sarracenia is grinning like some proud little girl who just impressed a grown-up when Mortimer is knocked out and proceeds to compliment her. She gives her hammer a stylistic twirl before smacking it haft-first into the ground to make a resounding thud. "Thank you!" she says happily before she thinks about it. "...I think." Is treacherous a good thing? Doesn't seem like something most people would want in a princess.

She shrugs after a moment and gains a smug smirk. "Thank you for accepting my challenge." she says, giving a polite curtsey despite her smirk. "Luck was on my side today, I think! That is quite unusual! Of course, I could have beaten you either way."
Mortimer Balman      "Perhaps. You hit much harder than ye like like ya should, so I did underestimate a bit. I was anticipatin' more explosions than hammers, admittedly. Very fancy hammer, I like it." An approving nod as Mortimer stretches out a bit and then moves to recover his sword. "P'raps ya would have. P'raps not. We'll not know here in the Shrine; only upon a genuine field of battle can we determine whether or not that's true. Which, I hope, shall not need ta happen anytime soon, if indeed ever."

The sword is sheathed and he lets out a yawn, hopping up out of the arena and fuzzling one of the ears on his massive wolf. "Up lad." "Grroowf." The beast rises and shakes out a bit, somehow managing to not dislodge his nappers.
Sarracenia      Sarracenia grins delightedly at the compliment to her hammer. She obviously holds it in high regard as well. But, his comment about genuine battle makes her frown a bit. "Are you saying you held back? The shrine does not dampen our powers, you know." she says as she slides that hammer (somehow) into the satchel around her shoulder. She smirks after that and tries to get a look at Mortimer's face. "You are not simply trying to spare yourself some embarrassment from being handed a loss by a pretty princess, are you?" she says teasingly.
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer looks down at Sarracenia and shakes his head. "Oh no, I was hardly holdin' back; that explosion you dodged- which by the by, most impressive! Few are the folk what avoid an Overheat maneuver- was at full possible force. But... This was a fight fer *funsies*. This wasn't a *real* conflict, where one of us is tryin' to *kill* the other. That would have, most likely, played out diff'rently, aye? I would have been usin' a whole other set of tactics, as I'm sure you would have too."
Sarracenia      The princess looks like she hadn't really considered the difference. She has probably never had to actually fight for her life or anyone else's. "Really? Like what? A Bonzai Bill isn't exactly a tool for a practice fight. If it was not for the Shrine I would probably not have used it." she says, then pauses. "Although...I did when I fought Gilgamesh and managed to defeat him with one, and that was in my castle's courtyard."

She looks up at Mortimer again. "If you do not fight in training as you would in a real fight, then you may not be prepared for a real fight. Is that not true?"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer tilts his head a bit, one crooked ear pointing sideways and the other upwards. "I dunno, you *did* say you were goin' to show it off, didn't ye? That makes the Shrine the perfect place fer it." He suspects she doesn't quite get what he means. "That is ostensibly true! But this is not training. This is a thing where we fight fer amusement. We all know in here, there's no stakes. There's nobody's life genuinely on th' line.. Well I suppose the only way I could really drive this point home, is if we had another match, isn't it? There's a world of diff'rence but, I'd hafta be comin' at ya like I want you *dead*."
Sarracenia      Sarracenia seems a bit startled when Mortimer drives the point home at least a bit with his emphasis on dead. "Ah...I...try to avoid those types of fights. I have only been in one truly life-threatening situation that I recall, and I did not stay in that situation any longer than I had to." she says as she walks with Mortimer.

Not really thinking about it, she reaches out to rub the Thunderwolf's side. Honestly, who can resist a big fluffy dog? At least, who of those that don't know these beasts are supposed to be vicious killing machines. "So...you are a pokemon, but you also keep pokemon?"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer nods. "Aye, that is wise. One should never wish to be in such battles.. But, being prepared fer them is good." Fortunately for Sarracenia, Ulbrecht is- despite his species- essentially a giant puppy and makes a contented rumbling sound when given attention. "I'm a Pokemorph. Reder and Switch are both Ferals. This does usually imply an owner and pet status, but not always. Some ferals are known to.. Develop, as it were. Their minds evolve to be more like people rather than beasts, with stronger wills and personalities. I am a fortunate man in that I have had so many such comrades, but it is a very rare thing. Most ferals are just that- feral animals."
Sarracenia      Sarracenia keeps petting Ulbrecht as she listens to Mortimer. "Hmm. I see. I wonder if-" she starts, then blinks as an ringing bell alarm can be heard. She looks around, then reaches into her satchel and pulls out an alarm clock. "Oh! I should be going! I must attend a..." She rolls her eyes. "...an incredibly boring meeting about the current state of the Sundew Kingdom." She curtseys to Mortimer and his crew. "Thank you once again for the challenge! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I!" she says, then runs off to a nearby wooden airship.
