Owner Pose
Mortimer Balman      Mort steadily walks into the arena. A setup more befitting someone like Nova. A vast, wide setup of forestry and broken cement pillars. A cross between urban and forest terrain that both he and Nova might find pleasantly (or unpleasantly) familiar. Lots of cover out there.. And lots of cameras that need to be set up to watch them! A grin comes over Mort's face as he anticipates fighting the legendary Nova Terra..

(Music - Tech N9ne feat. Big Scoob and Krizz Kaliko - Dysfunctional)

He can't go invisible like Nova can, and his fatigues don't blend in too well with the local environment. Being on fire as well, one might think he may have a hard time if Nova wants to play stealth games. Maybe he will. Either way, he's looking forward to the fight, adjusting the short katana that's hanging from his hip and waiting for the sound for the match to start.

A fight against a fellow soldier.. This should be grand.
Nova Terra     Nova struts out into the arena wearing her skin-tight hostile environment suit and holding her canister rifle in both hands. She comes to a stop at her starting position, turning her head a little to watch as one of the camera drones flies in for a close up.

Nova puts on a playful smile, shifting her rifle into one hand and resting it over her shoulder. She then blows the camera a kiss.

Quickly checking over her rifle, Nova readies herself for the coming fight. She's naturally heard of Mortimer Balman. Anyone who's been an elite for any amount of time probably has. But Nova can't really recall encountering him personally. This will be interesting.

The countdown ticks off. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. The horn sounds and Nova is off and running, quickly dashing into the trees.

Thankfully for the audience, the cameras will have no trouble tracking Nova as she's not turning invisible. Not yet. But she does still utilize stealth as she stalks through the forest. The combination of wood and stone does cause some feelings of familiarity for Nova. But she pushes them from her mind as she focuses on the objective: Finding Mort.

Soon enough Nova is able to trace the pokemorph, sneaking up behind a stone pillar and peering out in his direction. She brings her visor down over her eyes and then raises her rifle. Tch, too much cover from the ruins. Hmmmmm... Nova lowers her rifle, instead reaching out with her mind. Several bits of broken stone rise up off the ground before launching in Mort's direction.

Nova is then off and running again, trying to find a better angle on her opponent.
Mortimer Balman      Several chunks of rock fly up and smack Mortimer in the face and torso. "Ow, ow ow ow ow! Hey, quit that! Ow ow ow!" A wave of his hand, which catches fire as he swings it, and rocks begin bursting into flame before they can hit him. "Hah.. Right! You're one of the rare Fighting *and* Psychic-type humans!" His gaze crosses the forest. He can't see her.. But she must be close enough to see him. And that means..

Mort claps his hands together and begins chanting. "Kiss the feet of Shaymin and rejoice with Trembling at the Dawn of Spring lest Thou perish along the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little!" Strange geometric symbols carve into the air, crackling with electricity. "Cursed Iron Forest- Southern Monsoon Winds!" At the end of the incantation he draws and swings his sword out in front of him in a single swift motion... Which flings a wave of crackling thunder and electricity in a wave out around in front of him. It's an imprecise attack, but it's not meant to be- it's meant to flush Terra out of her hiding spot.
Nova Terra     Nova's voice taunts from somewhere, "You missed."

Indeed, the thunder and electricity crackles through the forest, apparently hitting nothing of consequence.

From another direction, Nova asks, "And really? Fighting slash Psychic is the best you can come up with? My job title is literally 'Ghost'.

Finally Nova's position becomes much more noticeable as there is a muffled gunshot. Pressing herself against a tree, Nova aims out from behind it as she fires the shot. The bullet isn't on a lethal trajectory though, instead heading one of Mort's arms.
Mortimer Balman      The bullet may have been aimed for Mort's arm, but as he twists around looking for Nova.. The shell instead catches his skull, ricocheting off of hardened bone and landing in a tree somewhere. The blow doesn't do too much damage by itself, leaving only a nasty bleeding gash but no breaks or fractures.

But it does disorient him a bit, from rattling his brain when he wasn't expecting it. "Gah.. Ghost? Pfah! That's silly.." He wobbles a bit while trying to refocus his vision. "You're not even *half* dead, little Terran!" He's still pretty mouthy. Now... Where is she? The bullet came from that way.. Shaking his head out and trying to get his vision to stop splitting, Mort takes the easy path- just set fire to things until Nova pops out. He starts puffing out blazing balls of black fire, which emit unpleasant screams when they hit things. Question is, can he hit her?
Nova Terra     "Actually."

A fireball explodes against a tree near Nova. Then another. They're getting close.

    "We kind of are."

Nova rushes out from behind her tree moments before a fireball explodes against it. There she is Mort, get her!

Oh wait. Blue light washes over Nova's body, quickly turning her invisible. Too late.

The next sign of Nova is a puff of dust on top of a broken stone wall. The air then shimmers, revealing the blurry outline of Nova leaping off the wall and falling down towards Mort. There's something in her hands, shaped like a sword. She's attempting an overhead strike.
Mortimer Balman      The sword comes right across Mort's back, leaving an ugly, nasty cut across it. The blue fatigues are rapidly stained red.. But, Mort turns around and stares down. He can't directly see Nova.. But he can feel her. "Are you sure about that..?" The whites of his eyes turn black as pitch, the irises become red like fresh arterial blood, and his fiery mane explodes out behind him. The sickly wraithfire licks at the trees and begins to set them on fire, while Nova can see faces forming and dissipating in the flames. Some laugh, some cry, many scream.

Mortimer's mouth opens, and he begins expelling an absolutely insulting amount of fire upon the Ghost.
Nova Terra     Nova is briefly visible after the attack for only a few moments. But it's long enough for Mort to get a bead on her. And soon enough she finds herself faced off against a massive torrent of fire from the pokemorph's mouth. Nova's suit can only withstand the heat and fire for a short moment before it begins to overwhelm it.

Nova quickly feels the heat, the pain overwhelming her concentration and forcing her cloak to fail. Reappearing once more, Nova has no choice but to attempt a temporary tactical retreat. She jumps away from Mort, landing atop a nearby broken wall, before dropping down behind it to take cover. Why is she taking cover? From the fire of course.

Plus the present she had left for Mort.

A small cylindrical device rolls across the ground near to Mort's feet. He'd probably recognise it as a grenade, even with it's slightly strange shape. Shortly afterwards, the device explodes, unleashing a burst of energy that can not only cause some damage, but also disorient anyone caught inside it. A high-tech flashbang!

Even as her grenade is threatening to blast Mort, Nova explains, "Memories wiped. Identity records erased. Family connections severed. A life of secrecy and distrust of others. We might as well be dead." There's no hint of sadness in Nova's voice as she says this.
Mortimer Balman      Mort tries to leap away from the grenade... Whiiich obviously does not work too well, given that it hits him dead on and also blinds him. "FUCK!" He does not like being blinded.. But he stands up nonetheless, brushing blood off of his body along with dirt. Lots of shrapnel. Huffing a bit. "That's not even remotely the same. That just means you've been made into an un-person."

Eyes screwed shut, his crooked, horn-like ears straighten out and begin flicking around like tiny radar dishes. This is definitely not going in his favor thus far. Where is she..? He clenches a fist and starts dissipating the flames he's created, shrinking his mane until he's almost bald. "Though I won't argue it's an ugly fate. So, ya have my sympathies on that, an' not just because yer pretty." One ear stops. His head turns toward her. "...Found you, blondie." He starts puffing more flames out at Nova, running toward her despite his eyes being closed, not tripping over the foliage somehow. When he's drawn close, he starts launching into a series of vicious, sweeping kicks to knock her around.
Nova Terra     Nova is still recovering from the flames when Mort suddenly comes in. She manages to dive out of the way of the first kick. However, as she rises to try and get away once more, another of Mort's kicks catches her in the side. Nova is sent flying into a nearby tree, smashing into the trunk and shaking a good number of leaves loose.

Nova falls to the ground once more, groaning slightly from the impact. Sounding a little winded, she says, "Eh... It's part of the job. I'm not complaining." Plus it comes with some neat tricks.

    Like this!

Nova snaps her hand up in Mort's direction, psionic energy flaring around it. A wave of telekinetic energy blasts through the air towards Mort, threatening to smash into him and send him flying.
Mortimer Balman      The hit smashes Mort pretty well, yeah. "Urgh.. See.." Mortimer dislodges himself from a tree, which cracks and falls over after he does so. "This is why I said /Psychic/ element." Oh hey, there she is. His vision's freeing up a good bit. Excellent. Therrre she is.. But he's still very worn out, and chances are good he can only withstand so much more of her trickery before he goes down.

No matter. He closes the distance again, but this time it's his turn to draw his sword. "En garde!" A swift drawing slash is followed up by a series of increasingly fast and vicious swipes. The moves are fluid, but for some reason there doesn't appear to be an ending strike. As if the form he was using didn't situate itself around any sort of finishing blows.
Nova Terra     Nova is standing once more after her brief meeting with the tree. She isn't trying to run, or take cover. Instead she meets Mort head on at this point. But as he tells her to be on her guard, sword flailing, Nova doesn't draw her own blade. Instead she pulls out her canister rifle once more.

Nova brings a gun to this sword fight.

Mort moves into range, sword striking out at Nova. Nova defends as best she can with her rifle, interposing it between herself and the blade. She succeeds for a few strikes, but they're getting quicker and harder to block.

Eventually it reaches a point where Nova fails a block, Mort's blade sinking into her side. Nova cries out in surprise. Blood begins to seep out, running down her suit and Mort's weapon both.

However, with Mort's blade in her, Nova has an opening. She twists her rifle vertical, bringing the large barrel up to rest beneath Mort's chin. Nova pulls the trigger.
Mortimer Balman      Mort's lower jaw is completely demolished, though thankfully not the braincase. The blast knocks him back, leaving the sword in Nova's side... And him on the ground, bleeding far more than is healthy.
Nova Terra     Nova visibly relaxes as the fight appears to be over. This is soon confirmed as the horn sounds, signaling the end and Nova's victory.

Nova manages to keep any pained cries from escaping as she pulls Mort's blade out on her own. The wound begins to flow more freely... For a few moments. But soon enough the Shrine's effects kick in and the wound begins to reverse itself.

As Mort's injuries no doubt start to fade too, Nova steps forward to plant the sword into the ground next to the pokemorph, before saying, "Not bad."
Mortimer Balman      Mort emits a groan as the Shrine's magic undoes all the damage. That shit STINGS, dammit. "Owww.." He rubs and works his jaw a bit. "Achh.. Pretty good there, blondie." He hops up to his feet with bone-creaking sounds. "An' y'know there's still people what wonder why I think of humans as one'a th' most dangerous species? Grand fight, either way!"
Nova Terra     Nova grins at the compliment. Or what she takes to be a compliment, "Yeah, we can be pretty damn deadly."

    Pause.

"Though there's still worse out there." Judging by her confidence in that statement, she's obviously seen some of it.
