Nova Terra     Welcome to the finals, folks!

Nova is so, so close to that sweet, sweet prize money. Oh does she have plans.

Nova walks out from her waiting room into the arena, the packed crowd cheering hard. Not just her though. With both contestants having four wins and only one loss to their names, this should prove to be an exciting fight!

As Nova reaches her starting position, she seems to be in good spirits. She has a grin on her face, her rifle slung over her shoulder as she raises her hand towards her opponent. Finger out, thumb raised in the universal shape of a gun, she mouths 'Pew' as she 'fires'.

As the match draws closer to starting, sections of the arena floor begin to lower and slide out of place. Large pieces of equipment, robotic arms and long stretches of conveyor belts rise out of the holes, stopping at various heights as they lock into place. Once everything has settled, the sudden factory comes to life. Belts begin to move, bringing out raw materials as robot arms start to slice bits and pieces off with their lasers, others assembling the resulting pieces together.

Nova looks somewhat amused at the factory environment before her, shifting her rifle down into her hands as she gets ready for the start.

The clock counts down. The horn sounds! The match begins.

Nova runs, jumping up onto a conveyor belt to gain further speed as she tries to find a good spot to engage Sanary.
Sanary Rondel It takes a good minute before Sanary finally emerges from her own waiting room, scurrying a bit to get into the arena proper with a half-eaten chicken wing stuffed into her eating hole.

There's a non-zero chance she missed the time this was planned to start.

Getting to her own corner of the arena, Sanary finishes off her pre-fight snack and tosses the bones into the stands for one lucky or horribly disgusted spectator before turning to Nova. Grinning widely, she returns that greeting with two-finger salute against her forehead and a chopping motion with her hand followed by a... Some kind of mouth movement. She might be trying to make a 'schwing' or something, but it looks like she's just biting her tongue or blowing a raspberry or something.

She's trying.

When the arena starts to shift around them, Sanary nods slowly with an impressed glint in her eye as she watches the arms and conveyor belts in action, and she considers grabbing one of those lasers to see if they really burn.

Almost. She's not that d... She'll probably try and touch them later. For now, though, Sanary's keeping her head in the game! With Nova approaching, the axe cleric obliges her opponent by approaching as well, climbing onto one of those belts herself and forgoing cover. She needs a clear sight path to fling her axes at the sniping expert, after all!

Also, she flings an axe at Nova. It's a pretty small one, but it's still sharp and chucked by someone with more brawn than brains!
Nova Terra     It's difficult to track her opponent's movements as Nova runs through the makeshift factory. There's numerous moving parts after all. Which makes spotting that moving axe equally difficult. The weapon spins through the air to strike Nova in the chest. A solid hit!

The axe bounces off the Ghost's hostile environment suit. Though there is a noticeable cut in its surface.

Taking the hit, Nova jumps off her conveyor belt and onto a higher one rolling along at an angle. She doesn't continue running once she lands, holding her position as she turns to face Sanary. As the belt moves her along, Nova reaches her hand out towards the axe-wielder. One of the metal parts carried along beside Nova rises up before flinging itself towards Sanary.
Sanary Rondel Logic suggests that Sanary should be trying to use cover against her opponent. Logic is WRONG. Sanary's not a dodger, and she's seen enough snipers in her time to know that trying to actually avoid anything Nova throws at it her would be an exercise in frustration. That's why she surges forward, clambering along and grabbing chunks of metal to try and find something usable as a shield in her advance.

Alas, she doesn't really find anything worth using. Although she can see Nova moving, getting to her is another matter even as she just beelines for the sniper. She raises her larger axe to guard against whatever it is Nova's doing, but she lowers it when it doesn't seem like anything's happening! That, unfortunately, happens right as the metallic thing comes flying right for her, and it wings her right in the face!

"... So you don't just do gun stuff! Hehehe.. Ahahaha!" Mimicking the laugh of certain crazed wizards and mad scientists, Sanary grasps her head dramatically as green light covers her face, fixing her nose and stemming the flow of blood. Once that's done, she picks up a chunk of slag the size of her head, tosses it in the air a few times, then lobs it upwards in Nova's general direction before whipping another larger axe at her and charging forward with her axed raised, ready to take the battle closer!
Nova Terra     Nova seems amused, particular at Sanary's laugh. The Ghost gives the Cleric a grin, "Nope. That'd be too boring." She watches Sanary use that light to fix up some of the damage that was inflicted.

    Damn magic.

As Sanary picks up that chunk of metal, Nova's eyes watch closely. She takes a few steps back towards the edge of the raised belt she's on. The slag is flung, though it is quickly accompanied by another axe. A diversion? Possibly! Nova doesn't risk trying to take both. She leans back.

Nova falls backwards off the belt.

Nova twists in mid-air, bringing her rifle around to aim at Sanary while falling. She fires off a burst, several rounds streaking through the air between the two.

Nova twists once more, rolling herself to land on her feet. Her armoured boots hit another conveyor below and once more Nova is off and running. She's clearly trying to keep her distance from the axe wielder. The question is how long she'll be able to keep it up.
Sanary Rondel Wiping her face off, Sanary opens her mouth and shuts it as Nova falls right off that belt to not get an axe to the face. What's with these flippy dodgy people and their... BALANCE?

One day, Sanary will learn the joys of actually being able to do cool acrobatics. For now, she'll just have to settle with being able to at least see what's going on, but she can't gawk for long as Nova brings that rifle up. The healer is a little bit more prepared this time, managing to tear a mechanical arm off the belt to block the first shot. She doesn't quite have the reflexes or speed to do the same with the follow up shots, however, staggering back as the rest tear right through her shoulder.

"Heh... I can understand that. Guess I should also try somethin' a little different, then." Slapping her free hand over the wounds, Sanary gets right back into advancing towards Nova while pouring healing magic into herself. She breaks into a run, leaping from conveyor belt to conveyor belt to close the distance steadily as she brings out another axe from inside her coat. Instead of throwing it, however, she holds it high while her eye glints with red light briefly, and a laser erupts from her eye towards the sniper that explodes on whatever it hits!
Nova Terra     Nova runs. She's a fast one. Not so-fast-she's-a-blur... At least not yet. But she's clearly heading somewhere, ducking underneath and around the robotic arms of the belt she's on. She does try to keep an eye on her opponent as she moves, watching as Sanary raises that axe.

    Laser eyes was unexpected.

Nova own eyes go wide in surprise just as Sanary fires her laser. Nova drops mid-run, sliding behind a large piece of machinery just as the laser reaches her position.

The machine explodes, sending shrapnel flying everywhere. Several pieces embed themselves in Nova's suit. They don't manage to penetrate the artificial muscle fibres all the way, but the impacts alone are enough to cause Nova to wince in pain.

Still. It beats a direct impact from that.

Briefly taking cover behind the flaming wreck, Nova reaches up to pull her visor down over her eyes. Her HUD comes to life as Nova prepares to take this to the next level.

For now though, Nova maintains her position behind cover as she once more reaches out with her mind. Motors begin to whine in protest as a number of the robotic arms begin to turn against their own programmed-will. They continue to fire their cutting lasers as they turn to point in Sanary's direction.

    A laser for a laser.
Sanary Rondel It's a laser axe sniper warrior fight! Seeing that Nova is still far-ish away, Sanary starts running faster than before. Clearly, trying to back her into a corner isn't working all that well, so the axe healer has to take matters into her own hands if she wants any chance at getting that sweet sweet prize money.

In retrospect, hurling herself towards Nova probably wasn't the best idea considering that there are indeed lasers around, and healing over cauterized wounds is considerably harder than regular bleeding ones. The axe-wielder hisses painfully as those lasers rake across flesh and burn her jacket to her in several spots, and some small part of her is telling her to fight tactically.

The larger, dumber part is telling her to get in there since she's already this close. Naturally, she listens to the dumber part, and she utters a battle cry while charging right through the machinery with the aid of her magitech flight anklets, aiming to barrel right into Nova with the force of...

Well, not a huge amount of force. A decent amount, aided by machinery getting bashed around and flung at Nova in the process. She's still trying to get into optimal chopping range!
Nova Terra     SCREECHCRASH!

Nova barely has a moment to react as Sanary comes bursting through the machinery debris. All the Ghost can manage is to raise her arms to shield herself as she is slammed into. The impact sends her skidding and rolling across the floor, flying debris cutting into several places on her suit. One large piece manages to reach all the way through to her skin, causing red to start leaking from the hole.

The impact also sends Nova's rifle flying from her hands. It too slides across the ground some distance away.

But Nova manages to recover quickly, twisting her body to come up on one knee. She gives Sanary a smirk, "Nice move." Welp. There's no avoiding it now.

Nova reaches up to grab the hilt of the weapon on her back. She pulls it free. A field of blue energy forms around it, creating the edge that gives the monomolecular blade its name.

Psi-blade in hand, Nova pushes up from her kneeling position. In a flash of psychic energy she closes the distance to her target near-instantly, jabbing the blade point forward to try and stab it through Sanary.
Sanary Rondel Sanary skids slightly as she follows through with that charging maneuver, nearly throwing herself into an inconveniently located vat of something in the process. Thankfully, she stops herself before ACTUALLY falling into it, and she grins widely as Nova compliments her. "Thanks. I try."

It may look a little more deranged than Sanary would like since she's bleeding from the forehead. Charging through STEEL is not something smart people do! As Nova draws her energy blade, Sanary whirls her axe around her as she readies herself to finally do that thing she's good at: Fighting at close range. Charging forward yet again, she nearly runs right into Nova as the psychic expert closes the gap and thrusts that blade into the healer.

IT goes right in, and there's a sickening sizzle as it burns right through her gut. As it burns, it also heals, the blue energy mingling with the green light from Sanary's healing magic in a race of healing versus burning and cutting! It's clear that the blade is winning that race, but Sanary takes the risk just so that she can start using her axe as intended: Chopping repeatedly at Nova. Her swings vary wildly, mixing rapid shallow cuts with wide powerful swings!
Nova Terra     Nova was not expecting her opponent to be so active after taking a sword to the gut like that! The swings are dangerous given their close proximity and Nova is forced to pull, drawing her sword out with her.

What proceeds is a rather one-sided exchange of blows between the two. Despite her current weapon, Nova is not an accomplished melee fighter. She can manage well enough against nobodies. But against an Elite? Nova takes several strikes, one after another, bypassing what meagre defense she can manage with her blade. The axe head cuts through her suit in several places, drawing yet more blood and grunts of pain from Nova.

Finally, Nova's blade is knocked out of her hand by one of Sanary's swings. The Ghost is left with only one option.

Hoping to surprise her opponent, Nova moves into the next swing, taking a blow across her back from the shaft of the weapon, rather than the head. But it gives her the opening she needs to push past Sanary.

Nova dives forward to put just a little bit a distance between the two, giving her the time she needs. As she does so, she reaches out with her hand. Nova's canister rifle suddenly moves, zipping off the ground and through the air to Nova. Nova hits the floor once more after her dive, quickly rolling onto her back and raising her rifle up to fire a shot into Sanary at close range.

This will either work... Or Nova will find herself in a rather precarious position lying on her back with an axe-wielder standing over her.
Sanary Rondel Sanary's feeling pretty good when she lands those hits on Nova, so it's quite easy to catch her off guard by actually getting in closer rather than backing off. Before she can swing again to stop Nova in her tracks, that rifle comes in way too close for comfort, and it blows a hole right through the healer's gut!

This is the part where a normal person would probably be dead right now. Indeed, it looks like Sanary's even about to topple over as she staggers back, her axe-wielding arm starting to slacken.

"Th... You and tha... That other tech guy... You really got some impressive gear and moves, you know?" She starts laughing again even as blood pours from the wound, the green light barely doing anything to halt it beyond making sure nothing actually falls out of her. Blood goes everywhere, the machinery is smeared with crimson, and there's probably a gore warning for the kids back home that shouldn't even be watching this to begin with. She laughs painfully and madly all at once, not looking unlike a madwoman as that axe goes up high once more.

Sanary howls, and then the axe comes down.
Nova Terra     No. Fucking. Way.

She has a large hole right through her gut! How can she keep going!?

Nova barely registers the compliment as she watches the axe rise up. She has all but resigned herself to loosing this match. And her body language shows it as she slumps, apparently just waiting for the axe to come down...

    ... No.

Nova's hand releases its hold on her rifle to move into the path of Sanary's weapon. The axe is suddenly halted mere milimeters from Nova's palm as she holds the weapon back with her mind. For a moment there is a struggle. Sanary's strength versus Nova's mind. The axe shakes.

Nova cries out in strain-or is it pain?-as psychic energy flares up around her hand and pours out of her eyes, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Nova unleashes a blast of telekinetic energy at Sanary, trying to send her and her axe flying.
Sanary Rondel That certainly didn't go as expected. Where's the crunch? Where's the body-splitting crunch? It's nowhere, apparently, as Nova's psychic powers manage to stop that blade in its tracks despite the healer's best efforts at forcing it down.

It seems harder and harder to get that axe to go down, too, but at least the fight is jsut about over. Sanary even feels lighter on her feet as Nova and the ground beneath her become like distant memories, shrinking in size while her head pounds like she's been slammed into the machinery that had made up their battlefield moments ago.

Also, she's getting slammed into machinery that's still part of their battlefield. The body-splitting crunch finally comes, but not from Nova as Sanary had expected! No, it's from herself going into a pile of slag on a conveyor belt headed towards a vat of molten metal!

Surely the censors will stop this melty death scene, won't they?! Someone think of the children! Or not. They're old enough to see this sort of thing these days.
Nova Terra     Nova is visibly relieved as she registers the fact that there's no longer an axe threatening to slice her in half.

Wondering what happened to her opponent, Nova proceeds to slowly stand. She's a little wobbly from the wounds, blood loss and recent psychic strain.

Looking around, Nova spots Sanary getting carried along one of the belts towards that vat. She watches, waiting for her opponent to get back up.

She doesn't, instead continuing dangerously close to that molten metal.

But the dull roar of working machinery quiets as the false factory shuts down. This includes the belts, which stop moving Sanary moments before she topples over the edge towards a painful end.

The end horn sounds, signalling the end of the match and Nova's victory.

Nova retrieves her sword, placing both her weapons on her back. Not without pain though as the movements agitate her injuries. But said injuries don't remain for long as the Shrine's effects begin to reverse them.

Nova slowly makes her way over to Sanary, giving the woman a grin, "Nice match. You're a maniac with that axe." That's definitely meant as a compliment.
Sanary Rondel The machinery stops, the injuries mend, and the vats close. Sanary groans wearily as she sits up, shaking off some of that lingering phantom pain before looking up at Nova. She laughs proudly and hoists herself up, reaching over to clap the sniper on the shoulder in turn.

"You ain't bad with that gun and brain magic, either. We should do some trainin' sometime. Your skill with my strength? You'd be freakin' unstoppable!" Another laugh, and the healer turns to the spectators while gesturing at Nova wildly.

"Keep an eye on this one! She's goin' right to the top!" She hams it up for the cameras, then starts the long and arduous process of trying to find all those axes she hurled.

That's probably a good time for a commercial break.
