Lory Thumper      Even though she doesn't drink much and doesn't eat meat, the short bunny cop known as Lory Thumper still finds herself in this strange Bar and Grill every now and then. Today it is business as usual. She was just thinking how hungry she was, walked through a door, and poof. She was here. She is a bit confused for just a moment before she realizes where she is. But, once she does she shrugs and moves to take a seat. Still in her full riot gear, she at least takes off her helmet once she is at a table, then starts looking through the menu. While she tries to decide what to eat, she orders a fruit-based mixed drink.

And of course takes a look around. Places like this are usually hubs for criminal activity, so the bunny's sharp eyes and ears scan the other diners and drinkers for signs of those activities. Cops are always expecting trouble.
Arkae Zellar There's a crow two seats away. Or maybe she's a raven. It's hard to tell, and if you ask any two tengu they'll give you three different answers.

Is she trouble? Maybe. Does she look like it? Probably. She's the sort of person that has trouble written all over her beak.

At the moment, Arkae is experiencing the wonderfully unhealthy culture shock that is deep-fried cheese sticks for the very first time. Frying things is certainly never unheard of on Golarion, but in her experience that's been things like sliced vegetables and meat and bread. Taking cheese, already an amazing food, and putting it through the same process?

"This is amazing," the tengu says muffledly, her beak full of two entire cheese sticks at once.
Arcadia Arcadia honestly never spent much time in taverns before. Sure, she is capable of digesting foodstuff but it isn't a requirement for her ongoing survival, and she usually got her tasks directly from the Technocrancy when it came to her occupation.

But someone had told her that taverns where a place in the Multiverse that adventurers go to look for quests between the main quests, so the sphinx wanders into the Bar and Grill to see what the biggest tavern of them all has to offer. Which almost immeadiately has her stopping to lift and turn her head to one side. "... Olfactory senses are detecting numerous pleasurable aromatic particles in the atmosphere."
Lory Thumper      Lory's ears turn toward Arkae slightly and takes note of the cheese sticks. The bunny enjoys those herself on occassion. "Haven't had those before?" she asks Arkae, just starting up some conversation to see if the crow or raven says anything suspicious. The bunny's ears twitch again as she hears Arcadia and she turns toward the sphinx. "Well...it is a bar and grill after all. And not a bad one, either. Decent, greasy food is important in a place like this. Helps the drunks to recover faster, and appeals to a broader population than high class cuisine." she says in a conversational tone.

Lory finally decides on what she wants, and ends up ordering some fried things herself. Cheese sticks, green beans, and zucchini. With ranch dressing, of course. However, she makes sure to ask whether any of it is made with animal fat, and asks for things fried in vegetable oil instead.
Arkae Zellar "Never have! They're good!"

Arkae swallows what's in her beak. "Hei Fang, but you should need a license to sell those. They taste dangerous."

Arkae waves to order a fresh bear, and then glances over. She looks Lory up and down.

"So, ah... sorry, don't know if it's rude to ask, but... hengeyokai, rabbitfolk, viera, lapid, lago, usagi, actual rabbit...?"
Arcadia There's a bit of a snicker from the sphinx at the mention of drunks and grease. "Aw, it's cute how pure organics enjoy things that are also potentially dangerous to them." Pause. "No offense."

Arcadia turns, and is about to ask something similar when the avian does so. Instead she just leans in a little closer to look for herself. "Well, she's not a jackalope, I can tell you that much." She waves one hand over Lory's head to indicate the lack of deer antlers. Then scoots down lower behind her. "Not a worpletinger either, unless she's hiding wings under her clothing."

Yeah. She doesn't really have much of a concept of personal space yet.
Lory Thumper      Lory thought she was the one doing the investigating, so she looks a bit like a doe in the headlights as the two start asking about her and Arcadia gets pretty far inside the bunny's bubble. "Uuuuh...just a rabbit, I guess?" she says to Arkae, then coughs lightly at Arcadia. "None taken. But uh, would you mind backing up juuuust a bit? There's an open seat here." she says, motioning to one of the chairs beside her and Arkae. "My world doesn't have any magic that I'm aware of, so things like jackalopes and wolpertingers aren't a thing." she adds, then pauses. "Well, I guess a jackalope could be, but I haven't seen any rabbits with horns or antlers or anything like that."

Since it is fried food, Lory's meal is ready pretty quickly. "Yeah, I guess we organics are kind of drawn to danger a lot. Fried foods for instance, pretty bad for the body. But, they just taste too good to pass up. I do at least avoid things like fried candy bars or fried butter. I mean seriously, who eats fried butter? Cheese at least has some proper nutritional value." she says before picking up a fried green bean and dipping it in the ranch before taking a bite. She is quiet until she finishes her bite, then smiles to the pair. "Officer Lory Thumper, MPD. And you are...?"
Arkae Zellar "Sorry," says Arkae. "Did you say 'fried candy bars' and 'fried butter'?"

She quickly grabs the nearest menu and starts frantically examining it.
Arcadia Arcadia is sitting in the chair before Lory even finishes pointing it out. "Better?" Goodness that's fast. Like too fast to see fast.

Then just as quickly she's back on her feet, standing at attention. "Arcadia, Guardian of Argo Alexandria, Technocracy of Wonders of the Line!"

And then she's back in the chair again. It hasn't even stopped wobbling from how fast she got up before she sits down again, making it squeak a little as it's abruptly stopped back in its spot by her.

Did we mention she's really fast?
Lory Thumper      Lory blinks a couple of times. Even she could barely follow that movement! She stares for a few moments once Arcadia is seated again. "...sure." she answers the sphinx's question uncertainly. Arkae grabs the menu and frantically examines, and Lory laughs just a bit. "You aren't seriously going to order those things, are you? Cheese sticks are artery clogs on order, but those things are like heart attacks wrapped in bread!" she says, shaking her head and smiling.

She looks between the two once more. "So...are you guys new to the Multiverse? I feel like I at least know of most of the elites out there, and I don't recognize either of you." she says, then turns to Arcadia in particular. "Argo Alexandria, huh? Sounds like some ancient Greek supercity. What does guardian mean in this case? Like a soldier, or an elite fighting force, or are you the best fighter they have?"
Arkae Zellar "Oh, yeah, I'm pretty new. I think the... unification thing only came a month ago?"

She puts down the menu and looks over at the waitstaff. "Hey. Do you guys deep-fry bugs? Yeah, literal bugs. Oh, sweet. Put in an order for me for chef's choice, thanks."

She gives Lory her undivided attention again. "So yeah, a month ago. As far as I can tell most people at home aren't really all that fazed? I mean like the general peasantry maybe, but everything fazes them."

"Probably the biggest change is reliable electricity, I mean we had electricity before but it was mostly just being used by mad scientists to bring flesh golems to life, and such."

"Oh yeah." She extends a hand. "Arkae Zellar, adventurer and alchemist."
Arcadia "Yes, yes, and yes." Arcadia replies. "I protect the mobile city from turbofauna monsters and raider cults want to steal its arcane and technological wonders for themselves."

She snatchs up the menu once Arkae is done with it, folding her wings to keep them out of the way as she sits back in the chair and starts perviewing.

Doesn't keep her from snorting softly at the mention of electricity and how mad scientists use it, though. "Classic. Maybe enough to be cliche."
Lory Thumper      Deep fried bugs makes Lory pause for a few moments, but it makes sense given the species. "Yeah, my world wasn't all that fazed either when we unified. There were plenty of wories of course, but overall nothing really happened. We had plenty of electricity even before that, though." the bunny says, then gets a bit of a thoughtful look. "Your scientists really do that sort of thing? I thought that only happened in movies before the Multiverse."

Lory looks a little proud of herself as Arcadia confirms Lory's guesses, though turbofauna makes her raise an eyebrow. "Like...giant creatures? Are you the only guardian looking out for them? I'd assume not if you have time to be here, but one never knows until one asks." she says
Arkae Zellar "Oh! Oh movies, yes! I saw a movie recently!"

Arkae leans forward. "It's called the Sorceress's Knight, and it was a guy who swung this gunsword around and there was all this action and there was a kiss and there was a happy ending, and it's all great!"

Arkae pauses. "Also yes. There's that sort of thing. A lot of that sort of thing."
Arcadia "Some are giant. Not all are giant. All are pretty fast though." Would explain in part why she's -fast- to counteract things being fast. "I'm just the best. I get to deal with the challenges too strong and nasty for general defensive militia operations!"

She sounds... oddly and almost uneasily -excited- about that.

Then goes back to the menu. It's less about the individual items and more she's getting a general cross reference of culinary cultures present to the greater Multiverse.

Though she does eventually order a pork gyro. That's probably not much of a surprise.
Lory Thumper      Arkae mentions the Sorceress's Knight, and...Lory's ears just slowly droop down and she lets out a muffled groan. "I...haven't seen that one." is all she says though. If Arkae liked the movie, she likely liked the fanboy of that movie. And Lory isn't looking to start any trouble. She instead turns to Arcadia. "Sounds like you enjoy your work. I can't say I find it fun to fight a big criminal, but it is gratifying to stop one." she says with a small smile. Arcadia's order draws a slight snicker from Lory before she can stifle it. She quickly murmurs a quiet 'sorry!' before taking a bite of her own food.
Arkae Zellar Arkae's food arrives in the meantime.

"Oh, look, there's even the little legs sticking out of the fried spiders," she enthuses, holding one up for Lory to see.

*CRUNCH*

"If you want," says the tengu, still talking with her beak full. "I can see if you can borrow a copy of it."
Arcadia Arcadia takes a few bites. Then her eyes narrow just slightly at Lory. "Whut?" She gulps down the big bite of gyro she'd taken. "I am fully capable of ingesting organic foods! I just don't rely on them for energy or nutritional sustinance." Guess she thought it was something else the bunbun was snickering at.
Lory Thumper      Lory looks back as Arkae says to look...and nearly falls out of her chair! "Eek!" She ends up bracing against Arcadia for just a moment before regaining her position in her chair. She coughs to try and cover her embarrassment, but the way her ears are lowered around her head make it pretty clear. "Er...sure! Thanks." she says, a bit overly loudly, which just causes more embarrassment.

It doesn't help when Arcadia takes umbrage with Lory's snickering, and that deer in the headlights look is back. "No no, I didn't mean anything! It was just...! I..uh...!" How can she explain it without looking like some stereotyping cop? The bunny opts for the stop talking and stuff your face option, and accomplishes this by stuffing an entire cheese stick in her mouth. Oops, can't talk now! Eating!
Arkae Zellar "I mean, what's the point if you don't eat?"

The tengu picks out another fried lump and holds it up to examine it. After a moment, she bites it in half, curiously.

"Oooh! Butterfly! But yeah, like, there's berries where if you eat just one that's all the food and water you need for a day, but... who wants to only ever eat one berry per day? You want to get out there, find all the food in the world- in the multiverse now, I suppose."

She swallows. "So what's the food scene like where you're from?"
Arcadia Lory gets a brief still squinting look, the sphinx in contrast not hiding that she's being a bit scrutinizing of the reaction. Though it's quickly put aside when more interesting conversation is brought back up. "With stability being restored to the Line there's an effort to re-establish actual farms and ranches instead of relying on hydroponics and... sort of like you mentioned," Arcadia says, shruging a shoulder. "Using magic to suppliment want was difficult to get in large quantities."

At the thought of that she pauses, and leans forward a little. "Which makes me wonder. What kind of alchemist are you?" She holds her paw-like hands out, paws up, to indicate two different categories. "The potions and explosions kind, or the kind that keep trying to turn everything into gold?"
Lory Thumper      Lory really tries to focus on her food as Arcadia scrutinizes her, but of course she can't help glancing over with her eyes. She is relieved when the conversation moves on. "I dunno. I can think of a few...very few...who might want that berry rather than having to eat all the time, just like there's people that would take pills or something to avoid sleeping if they could. But, food is a very basic need, and I think it has a lot of power to help foster friendships and comfort people. So, I think overall the benefits of having meals outweigh the time that is gained by not eating."

She looks to Arcadia after that. "I am a bit surprised that an...android?...was made with the ability to eat and enjoy food. Kind of implies that someone was trying to make artificial people."

The question of alchemy comes up, and Lory turns to Arkae again to wait for that answer.
Arkae Zellar "Potions yes, not so much explosions," says Arkae. "I've got ol' Killstab and Capital Ocean and Those Two for if I need to, you know, do the opposite of healing."

*CRUNCH* goes a caterpillar.

"Rrreally not the lab kind, either. I know some that do, but I've never really been the scholary sort, you know?" *CRUNCH*

"Besides, as the saying goes, there's an easier way to turn lead into gold." *CRUNCH*. That's a long as heck centipede.
Arcadia "Technorganic. I am closer to what you would call a cyborg than android. Though my 'mechanical' parts are mostly magitek instead." The scrutiny is gone, Arcadia is back to casually conversing between bites. And occasionally licking some of the sauce off her lips, and her small but very sharp fangs can be briefly seen. "And it was likely done to avoid... ah..." She stops, having to think, " 'uncanny valley' as one of the technicians has put it."

As Arkae explains her alchemical pursuits she's already resumed eating, so just nods instead of talking with her mouth full. She likes to be paid attention to, but not for being rude! At least not socially.
Lory Thumper      Lory blinks at that last thing Arkae said. "Easier? Easier than what?" she asks, mostly out of curiousity. "Casting a spell or mixing some chemicals to turn lead into gold would be pretty easy compared to how gold is made in nature. Nuclear fusion is not easy outside of a star." she says, just nibbling on her food now. And trying not to cringe slightly every time one of Arkae's bugs crunches.

When Arcadia explains a bit more about herself, Lory nods. "I see. In that case it is a bit odd that you don't actually need to eat. Do you get injections or does your magitech just synthesize things that your organic parts need?"
Arkae Zellar "Nah, it's really easy, You turn the lead into a sword, stab someone else, and take their gold."

*CRUNCH* goes an entire handful of bees.
Arcadia Arcadia pauses, tilting her head. Then shrugs. "Can't really argue that logic."
Lory Thumper      Lory just...deadpans at that response. "That isn't alchemy. That is murder." she says, then shakes her head. "I hope you haven't done anything like that. It would be ashame to have to arrest someone I just met and was having a decent - if a bit bug-filled - conversation with." She finishes off the last of her food, then sips on the drink she ordered.
Arkae Zellar "I'm... sorry, I don't know how this works. You have jurisdiction *here*?"

Arkae tilts her head a bit.
Arcadia Arcadia chews loudly for a moment and gulps down more of her gyro. "Not to be a spoilsport since I like a good brawl myself, buuuut in the biggest bar in the place is probably not a good place to start something. Just saying." And resumes eating the rest of her meal like it was nothing.
Lory Thumper      "Well...technically I have jurisdiction pretty much everywhere." Lory answers Arkae. "I'm part of the Paladins, and we try to uphold law and order wherever we go. But, this particular place is considered neutral I believe. So, any arrests I made here might not hold up, even if someone admitted to doing something."

Lory doesn't mention that she has a body camera, so everything is being recorded.

Arcadia speaks up, and Lory blinks. "Peas and carrots..." she mutters, apparently some kind of cursing for her. "...does everyone think that law enforcement's first choice is violence? We really try to do things peacefully, but criminals really don't like being arrested." She sips on her drink with a bit more annoyance.
Arkae Zellar "Uh huh," says Arkae, who has in fact stabbed several people for their gold.

"Anyway. I'm gonna get going then," she says, getting up. "It's nice to meet you, sucks that you're a guard, though."
Arcadia Arcadia nods. "See you later, Arkae." Literally most likely, seeing as they're in the same faction. But after the little awkward stint with the bunny cop she decides not to bring that up at the moment, instead sitting back and working on the end of her gyro. She may be extremely fast but eating like that spoils the whole point of eating in the first place, so she's taking her time with it.
Lory Thumper      Lory came in here hoping to find some hints about criminal activity. Seems she found one. But, Arkae is smart enough not to say anything too incriminating before she leaves. Lory sighs softly, then hops up as well. "I should get going, too. It was good to meet you, Arcadia." she says before she finishes off her drink then heads out.
