Shotaro Hidari Shotaro heard that Stanley was skipping school. Shotaro, for various reasons, doesn't like this. Why? When he was growing up he became a delinquent but was given a chance to chase his dream thanks to a detective. His one condition was that he'd complete school with good grades. Obviously, Shotaro did...

So wherever Stanley was hanging out, the bike of the Kamen Rider would pull up, as Shotaro pulled the visor up on his helmet. He tosses Stanley a spare helmet. "Get on, I've got a case to solve, and you could get some good experience from this."

Assuming Stanley gets on, moments later they're driving in Futo. The streets of this windy city are similar to many Japanese cities, however, Shotaro seemed to know these streets exceptionally well. They happen to pull up to a restaurant. He doesn't go in right away, instead leaning on his bike.

"So the daughter of the owner of this restaurant has more or less changed in attitude. Her father and mother tell me she doesn't help out and seems obsessed with money. So the moment she leaves we're going to follow her to where she is going and try to figure out the change."

"You've got a similar situation to this at home, right?"
Stanley Padgett     "I mean, something like that, I'm happy to help!"

And he really IS happy to help people. He's dumb like that. Stanley HAD been out exploring a 'local onsen' with some of his dad's money, but well, Shotaro had pulled him away to go do DETECTIVE STUFF. "I mean, I'm not sure if you've got some sort of Reversal over here or people making wishes, but..."

He shifts a bit, his yellow hair stuck to his head under the helmet. "...But I am happy to be a help, Mr. Hidari."
Shotaro Hidari "So why were you skipping school?" Shotaro asks as they wait. His arms are crossed as he leans back. Shotaro's fedora was tipped forward, and his bushy hair was kept mostly either under it or around the back. He's dressed in a suit and tie. He looks more out of a noir detective book than modern Japan, but yet here he is.

"No, nothing like that here in Futo," not yet anyway. "Happy to be of help, or happy to help people?" he asks, seriously as he gives Stanley a look over.

Eventually, the daughter leaves the restaurant with a slam. How is it her? Well first off she's yelling at her mother and father, as she slammed the door shut. He motions for Stanley to put the helmet back on as he hops on the bike.

From here they'll be following the lady, keeping pace but also not trailing TOO closely.
Stanley Padgett     "Because it's just... noise. It's noise and it's not like I'm actually learning anything at this point." He slumps his shoulders. "Silver Springs is just a place right now, and... I've been to too many schools over too many years for it all to just..." He makes a vague hand gesture and sits up straighter again. "...Terminal senior slump, I guess."

Stanley has to think about that second question, though. "Both. I mean... I spent so much time bouncing around and unable to do much more than just... take from people, the ones I was living with. People expected to take care of me cause Dad doesn't want to." He brushes at his school uniform, and sighs. "...but NOW? I have the power to help people, honestly help them."

Ah heck, their target. Stanley puts the helmet back on, and holds onto Shotaro, as they tail the girl.
Shotaro Hidari The bike turns a corner, and the woman heads into an alleyway.

"Maybe it's a difference in American vs Japanese schools then. I found out that I learned quite a bit of things from people, even unintended lessons by keeping my ears open more than running my mouth," Shotaro says, "Sometimes you gotta listen for the things they don't say."

Though to hearing Stanley speak about his grievance about his father and being dumped off on others...Shotaro is sympathetic. "Yeah. It was just me and my mom. Dad left when I was small. I ended up getting rescued by a detective."

Walking around the corner, the woman was gone. The odd thing was, that the place ended in a dead end, there was no way out of the alleyway. "Well, I think this is where our investigation starts," Shotaro says, walking down the hallway carefully.
Stanley Padgett     Stanley sighs. "Mom died when I was little, and I think... well. I KNOW dad didn't take it well, cause I just.... I think I reminded him too much of her or something, I don't know." He hops off the bike, his gangly frame lumbering out after the bracing ride, as he peels off his helmet. "...So now I'm finally putting together something."
"...I sort of have to, when I turn 18 I'll be cut loose and just left for myself."

The dead end gets a quirked brow from the teenager, as he moves to get his fencing foil from the side of his duffel bag. Safety first. "...Seems a little sketchy to just vanish like that, but well." He looks down at himself. "...I go Other Places all the time." He DOES flick out his phone to check for reception, and then also the Other Reception. Just in case this place did have a Shadow World.
Shotaro Hidari "Ah..." Shotaro says, having heard that sort of thing before. People aren't perfect, and sometimes they let bad things get the better of them, not realizing what it is they're losing along the way. "Yet you still want to help people? That's pretty impressive of you, Stanley. Many in your situation would be thinking about their own futures first, trying to think of how they were going to live."

Shotaro leans over, seemingly finding something.

However, for a brief moment, Stanley would see the opening somewhere else. Sort of a mirror world of Futo, tall dark buildings, and strange skies. However, this opened up to a long stretch of main road, with not a soul being on it. It was safe to say that the lady did not cross here...but what is this?

Just as quickly as it opened, the face of a dinosaur would be visible, covering the entire opening before closing it. Like a door slam to Stanley.

Shotaro stands up from his spot, picking up a strange coin with gloved hands. "I think we found a clue here...this isn't a coin from anything I recognize...and from how it looks seems to be from an illegal gambling parlor."
Stanley Padgett     Stanley blinks a bit at the sudden DINOSAUR and then coughs. "....are there supposed to be portals to the Jurrasic here in Futo? Or portals in general?" He coughs, and then shuffles over towards Shotaro, and peers down at the coin. "ooh, is that like an arcade token? Or... whatever they use like that in gambling rings?"
A beat. "...I've never illegally gambled but if I didn't it wasn't for MonsterPot cards." Stanley looks seriously faced, as his new Rider Friend continues. "...I mean, I am sort of doing that, but on a grander scale? I have my quest to fix Lampport, don't I? There's got to be something in it at the end when it's done. That's how these things work, right?"

    Oh, Stanley.
Shotaro Hidari Shotaro raises an eyebrow at Stanley when he mentions dinosaurs and portals. "What? On that app? Thought you were here to help me, and not play with your phone?" Shotaro says, showing Stanley the coin. Even letting him take a picture of it if he wants to. Though as he talks more about his 'gambling' ring, he shakes his head with a laugh.

"I'm not a cop, kid. I'm a private eye. That kind of gambling isn't something I care about. I care about it if it hurts people...like this is," he says, holding the coin up.

"Maybe, Stanley. Maybe there is something for you at the end of that road. However, do you think I'm here in this city working for riches? If I wanted that there are a thousand better ways I could be using my power for."

"I want to protect the smiles of the people who live in my city, to prevent suffering, and to make sure the wind of Futo blows for all her citizens equally," he says, with an air of calm, but an underlying passion that someone who is hard-boiled wouldn't have. "The first step to helping people, Stanley...is to make sure you know what you want most of all."

"It's not a judgment. You don't have to lie to me, because in the end lying to yourself is far worse. You should think long and hard about your future. About what you want to do, and how you want to use those powers you have. Only you can reach that answer on your own."

He starts walking back to the bike. "I got to get this analyzed by my partner. So I can let you hang out with us some more to see what happens next or drive you home. Your choice."
Stanley Padgett     Stanley sighs, and then follows Shotaro to the end of the alley and then stops, leaning on the corner to think. "Is it weird that I actually want to be on stage for once? Like, that's a dream I have, one of them, anyways. Besides the weird one where I keep getting eaten by a Grue."

A beat, and he quotes Shakespeare, because of course he does. "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them." Stanley continues to walk, mounting the bike. "People say that all the time, but they don't know that was written by a bunch of people trying to trick someone into annoying his mistress."

On goes the Helmet. "...I just have to avoid being Malvolio, and not let my 'greatness' lead me into... well. Badness." He grumbles at his lack of articulation at the end.
Shotaro Hidari Shotaro throws the helmet at Stanley a moment later, after he finishes his lack of articulation. "To me, it sounds like you have your answer, you just don't know how to express it. Right now it's stuck up in the works up here.." he says, tapping at his head. "That's alright, being a kid is about learning and growing."

"Also, while the original context was less than honorable...those words have taken life in their own way, right? Just because something is the way it is now, doesn't mean it has to be forever that way. People are pretty similar in that way...for good or ill."

"Being on the stage is a good dream. Wanting to help people is a good dream too. The important thing is to want to find that dream. From where I'm standing, it isn't about greatness, it isn't about ability. It's about doing what you want to do."
Stanley Padgett     The young man sighs a bit at the poke, and ruffles that yellow hair in response. "I just want to stop whatever it is that's hurting people in Lampport for now, I guess I'll have to figure the rest out after that. I think that in and of itself is going to keep me plenty busy."

Stanley straddles the bike again, and grabs on to the back of the seat. "...Just keep an eye on me. It's something I'm going to be asking people. If I'm doing something wrong... make sure I know it."
