WMAT A1 Rebound vs Doppelganger
Date of Scene: 18 September 2015
Location: Papaya Island - Stadium
Synopsis: Rebound faces herself in the WMAT?! Nah, it's just Doppelganger.
Cast of Characters: 470, 726, 750
Tinyplot: WMAT 2015

Walter Bernhard (726) has posed:
The tournament stadium just after noon is a pretty bright and sunny place! Not the kind of place you'd expect to fight a shadowy opponent like the mysterious 'Doppelganger'! Doppelganger seemed to be slain or defeated in the previous match (it was ruled defeated), but apparently is intact enough for this one. There's no sign of it just yet though. In the big tiled, square-shaped 'ring', only Rebound is likely to be waiting for now, as the audience files into the stands and waits excitedly for the action to begin!

Rebound (750) has posed:
Indeed Rebound is already waiting in the center of the big square arena. She's seen places like this before, it's supposed to be if you get knocked out of the ring you lose the fight, but somehow she doubts that rule applies very much, if any other fights have been any indication.

For the moment she's messing around with her gauntlets, adjusting things here and there, humming something to herself as she works on them.

Pinkie (470) has posed:
Holy crap look at those crowds! Excited, roaring, raging for action and drama! Pinkie Pie is in the announcer's box, wearing a referee uniform and sliding her mask into place as she holds up the microphone! "LLlllllllllaaaadies, gentlemen, ponies, puppies, non-uniform gelatinous cubes and everything that can check the 'Other' box... I'm oyur host PINKIE PIE and today you're in for a treat! The WMAT is heating up and RIGHT NOW is no exception. In the 'I'm the same as you!' corner we've got DOPPLEGANGER, against a true contender, with the kicking and the boxing, REBOUND. So tune in because right now LIVE LIVE LIVE on tv, radio, and direct to brain transmission feeds, these two are gonna duke it out TO THE DEATH--" There's a pause as one of the announcement booth staff whispers in her ear, and the party pony-girl looks shocked, even with her mask on! "What? It's not to the death!? NEVERMIND I THOUGHT I WAS ANNOUNCING FOR THE KUMITE!" (WUTAH!) "WMAT. TUNE IN. FIGHT. GO!"

That done, she motions to the two contenders, "Now you two, I want a clean fight! GO FOR IT."

Walter Bernhard (726) has posed:
Hmmm... It seems the match is starting... But even now, no one is here but Rebound. Did her opponent quit without telling anyone? Suddenly, a large circle appears on the ring floor, glowing with purple energy, complex glyphs and symbols scrawling themselves into existence. Something like pure darkness in gaseous form pours out of the circle and the markings within its interior, masking what happens next. But that darkness also congeals into a figure at the center... A figure that rises up and takes shape...

The same shape as Rebound herself. And when the circle fades away, and the shadowy smoke dissipates, there's a figure rippling with some black mist and purple haze who, aside from glowing red eyes, seems to be identical to Rebound!

This must be the infamous Doppelganger!

Rebound (750) has posed:
Well that must be her opponent. Rebound takes a moment to unfold her legs and rises up to her full height. The gauntlets she wears lets out a hissing of steam as they power back on, and she looks at the shadowy version of herself.

"Well I always knew someday I'd have to kick my own ass. Lets see if the copy is anywhere near as good as the real thing, or just some cheap knockoff." He next movement is quick as she moves forward, feet pushing her through the air to land right in front of her shadow clone, swinging a quick left jab at the shadowy figure's face.

Pinkie (470) has posed:
    Gaaaasp.
Up in the booth Pinkie slaps both hands on the cheeks of her mask when she watches the arrival down below. "Whoah! It's like there are two Rebounds on the arena floor! But which is Rebound and which is Rebound?! This is so confusing, why do I always get the hard fights?!" The clown laments, "BUT I think ONE of them is Doppelganger, because that's what dopplegangers do, right? They copy people! But it looks like Reb... I think that was Rebound? I DON'T KNOW, THERE ARE TWO KANGAROO LADIES- and one just took a left swing at the other!"

Walter Bernhard (726) has posed:
Doppelganger Rebound takes the blow to the cheek, but seems to bounce back out of range to reduce the full impact... Only to spring right back in to lash out with a jab of her own! She seems to possess the same skill at least... And the same leaping ability. Though the lack of battle banter combined with the shadowy mist and glowing eyes may give her a bit more of a menacing appearance. But is merely looking menacing an advantage? Maybe not. Rebound is no weak-willed individual, after all! But it does seem, for those who paid attention to previous matches, as though there certainly is a psychological warfare element to how this mimic fights...

Even if right now it seems only their very professional announcer is the one being impacted by it!

Rebound (750) has posed:
Rebound is not going to let herself be intimidated by cheap parlor tricks. She's fought aliens, and demons, and other things that end in ns and are bad. She does take the hit pretty well, shifting back a bit, "Okay, so you can do stand up. That's fine."

She'll have to take the fight to the ground. She moves in again to try to grab shadow Rebound by the arm and shift her hips under her opponent, to throw the Doppleganger to the ground with some force.

Pinkie (470) has posed:
Pinkie is at a TOTAL LOSS here. And the fight ha salready started! "Ah! That's a jab! But Rebound takes it all bouncy on the face, but springs up to counter and return with a jab of equal if not less proportion! --I... I don't know which is which. I'm just going to call that one 'Good Rebound' and that one 'Evil Rebound'!" She doesn't even specify which is WHICH as she flails in the booth. "Ah! But then Rebound takes the reprisal like a champion, going for the grab and toss- this is already looking like it's going to be a brawl waiting to happen!"

Walter Bernhard (726) has posed:
'Evil'-Rebound seems to be taken down, slammed onto her back! ...But while she hits her head hard on the tiles, something's keeping the rest of her from reaching the tiles. That something is her tail, which is supporting her and keeping her separate from the ground. And in that position, resting on her tail, she lashes out with a double-kick at the mutant she is copying the form and abilities of, aimed at her belly! The same abilities as Rebound, with the same limitations... But does Other-Rebound have the same weaknesses?

She does seem to be difficult to knock down... But the personality itself is either different or entirely lacking. What impact that might have on how the abilities are actually USED has yet to be seen.

Rebound (750) has posed:
Oh hell no, now she's having her signature moves used against her! Rebound gets kicked, she should know better than to get taken down by her own moves, but she's going to have to deal with it.

Despite landing in a heap, she gets back up to her feet quickly, deciding it's time to start charging the Impact Drivers. Moving in again, she feints to one side before coming back around and moving to deliver a flurry of blows from both hands. It doesn't matter if these get blocked, as long as they don't miss.

Pinkie (470) has posed:
Wait is that one evil Rebound or good Rebound? This naming scheme really isn't working as Pinkie is on the edge of her seat. "Rebound eats the throw but is back up on her feet! Fast too- those kangaroo legs really are something, look at that double kick! I wouldn't want to get kicked like that and I'm a horse! But Rebound knows those moves! It's like she really knows her opponent! Because she knows herself! I still don't know which is which, but the kickee-Rebound is back up as fast as she took the shot, giving out a left and a right and a left again and a right-- it's a fast pace flurry of fists! Look at them go!"

Walter Bernhard (726) has posed:
The impact drivers carry quite a punch! Only one of the blows is partially avoided and even that one seems to carry enough impact to knock the newly-righted Other-Rebound (the one with the purple haze and red eyes) backwards! Each blow that successfully lands forces the mimic back more and more! Until finally...!

She whips around attempting to strike Rebound with her tail in the side to upset her rhythm, and then lunge in to perform the exact same maneuver, aiming to pound a few blows from her OWN Impact Drivers into Rebound's ribs! Unlike Real-Rebound's, however, Doppelganger's versions seem to glow red and trail globules of luminescent blood-like energy with every swing. Imperfect recreations of the 'real thing', to be certain... But does that make them any less effective?

Even wih the damage suffered so far, there's been no outwards indication of Doppelganger experiencing pain. She's clearly not unmarked by the blows, but she demonstrates no sense of discomfort. At least not openly.

Rebound (750) has posed:
Rebound, the real one that is, tries her best to block the impacts as they come in, but mis-times a couple of the blocks and takes a major blow to the head. She stumbles backwards, holding her head with her hand.

Okay so it's getting a bit crazy, having everything she throws get thrown right back at her. She's going to have to start thinking outside the box. Outside the box, in this case, means not going for the obvious counter punching that she should do, but falling back on some of the other martial arts she knows. She rushes in again, swinging a wide haymaker that quite purposely misses. She continues to rotate around after she swings to grab the alternate version of herself around the waist and use her powerful legs to german suplex her through the air.

Pinkie (470) has posed:
"Shadow Rebound doesn't look too good after taking all those hits! Stumbling like she just fell down a flight of punches, she's losing ground!" Well let it not be said Pinkie isn't energetic with her euphemisms. "But she comes back with a tail swipe! ... I wonder how these fights would go if they wore boxing gloves on their tails, too... Oh! But that's not all! But everything is all glowy and with aftermotion effects like a Fortressmania game's main character!" Now she's standing, motioning emphatically at the fight below. "But Not-Shadow Rebound is trying to block- some of them are getting through, but it looks like she's getting some ideas anyway-- LOOK AT THAT SWING I bet it could knock a bull's block clean off! --AND THEN SUPLEX. OH I BET THAT HURT!"

Walter Bernhard (726) has posed:
Doppelganger is hurled through the air and hits the ground hard! Her tail doesn't save her from that one, though she manages to climb back to her feet relatively quickly. It was still a tremendous impact that cracked the tiles at the landing point though. The mimic turns back to face Rebound, however, and then leaps up into the air, going for an aerial assault, seeming with a lunging punch with another of those glowing Impact Driver replicas!

But it's one of the feet that lashes out with a kick aimed at the face instead. Rebound isn't the only one who can throw a fake! But with Rebound starting to actually think things through instead of just react, maybe she'll be ready for it!

Rebound (750) has posed:
The kick manages to get her hard in the stomach and she stumbles back. She's getting her butt kicked by herself. But as she stumbles back, she drops her tail. Since the shadow clone is close enough, she's going to go for something less outside the box this time.

Inside the box or not, her signature double kick at this range should be more than enough to knock her opponent for a look as she puts those powerful legs to work kicking at her opponent.

Walter Bernhard (726) has posed:
Doppelganger is hit hard, goes flying, and seems to disperse against a retainer wall. Gone! Vanished! With no further reappearance, and the fact that she recovered from a far more grievous injury and seeming-disappearance in order to attend this match, it's safe to say that this was a knock-out or defeat instead of a 'death'. Rebound is the winner!

Pinkie (470) has posed:
"I can't watch! I can't watch!" So says Pinkie, holding her hands up and covering the eye-slats of her mask. Though she is peeking through her fingers. "Kicks are flying back and forth in fakes and not fakes and-- ... I think... Rebound kicked Rebound out of existence? She just slammed a wall and vanished! I... Don't see her coming back... ... So... Rebound wins???"
Pinkie Pie sounds BAFFLED. "NOT-SHADOW REBOUND WINS!"
