Disclaimer

By connecting to or accessing Multiverse Crisis MUSH, you certify that you understand and agree to this Policy file, and our rules in general.

  1. The source materials represented on this MUSH are property of their respective creators and rightsholders. This MUSH is a work of fans and writers expressing love and enjoyment, and is not for-profit.
  2. You certify you are at or above the age of 20, and understand that the MUSH's content may range in scope from PG-13 to R. It is the sole responsibility of the player to curate their own experience.
  3. We are not an Erotic Roleplay (ERP)-centered site, and ERP is disallowed in public venues or in the log system. You can do what you like in private, but don't put yourself at issue by obviously being here for ERP above all else.
  4. All conduct, postings, mail, and other communications are the responsibility of the person who put them out, and not the MUSH as a whole. MCM does not accept liability or responsibility for the actions of its members.
  5. You must ask permission from the admin before posting any ads.

Core Policy

  1. Our community is not a democracy, and staff's interest is in making the best decisions for the community we're attempting to curate. If you have a problem with a policy or staff decision, contact us via e-mail or as otherwise directed.
  2. This is not a codex of blood-sworn chiseled-into-stone-law. Rules lawyering is itself a rules violation.
  3. Don't bring harm to the MUSH or its members. Treat others how you'd like to be treated. Don't harass people; if they tell you to leave them alone, do it.
  4. Right-wing (and "centrist") political rhetoric or views are not permitted. We're a private community composed primarily of people that these ideologies are casually bigoted or materially violently hostile to, and are uninterested in sharing space with people who either wish us harm, or are indifferent to their politics harming us.
  5. Private disciplinary action or inquiry should not be made public. Don't try to erase, downplay, or otherwise run social damage control on disciplinary action. This puts us (staff) in the awkward position of either letting you lie or airing things out messily.
  6. We don't have a grandfather clause. All members must comply with current policy updates within prescribed sunset periods.
  7. Don't attempt to compromise the server or MUSH's security, or through the MUSH the security of other sites. Don't engage in illegal activities on or through the MUSH.
  8. By applying for original characters and settings, you agree that MCM retains the right to use these characters and settings if you leave the MUSH. Basically, you can't take your stuff, demand all past RP be retconned and logs wiped, etc. We don't own your characters or settings.

Staff Interaction

  1. Don't argue with Staff in public. Particularly don't reply to Staff telling you something with, 'I don't see that anywhere.' It won't get you out of having to adhere to what was pointed out, and creates an adversarial slant that leaves a bad taste in everybody's mouths.
  2. Staff may not document every chat with a player, but corrective actions taken should be communicated with the rest of Staff. If you feel a Staffer might've gone rogue, contact another Staffer to verify it's above-board.
  3. Staffers are human. Sometimes they'll lose their temper, make a bad call, etc. It happens. Try not to hold it against them when it does and, again, talk to us.

Rating & Acceptable Content

  1. Violence: Depictions of violence range from abstract fantasy violence up to what you'd see in an anime like Hellsing or Parasyte or a soft R-rated movie. Don't subject people to depictions of hard R-rating violence without disclaimer or consent.
  2. Sexuality: Depictions of suggestive or sexual themes, and sexual situations may be encountered. Sexually explicit content isn't allowed in public or in logged scenes. Don't be a sex pest. Don't expose the MUSH at large (ex: through the radio channels) who can't reasonably give consent to strong displays of sexuality.

Channel Policy

  1. You are entitled to Staff-Help. Access to other channels is a privilege.
  2. Politics and current events are allowed topics, but prolonged discussion may be asked to move to a pertinent space. The density of distressing information is high, so it needs a place to live, but we don't want strict containment channels for this.
  3. 6-Health is a containment channel for potentially gross health problems. Please keep all relevant topics there.
  4. Chantitles should be short, shouldn't contain the @name of other characters, and shouldn't look like STAFF or FACHEAD channel tags.

Spoiler Policy

This covers our spoiler policies: When you can apply for something when it's been released, when you can talk about something off of Spoiler channel. Until something has passed its spoiler period, we won't accept applications for it, and discussion should be on spoiler channel.

  1. Instant Consumption: Spoiler period is 2 weeks for discussion, 1 day for applicability. Covers web comics and animations.
  2. Quick Consumption: Spoiler period is 2 weeks after release. Covers comic books, films, etc.
  3. Long Consumption: Spoiler period is 30 days after release. Covers books, video games, anything not covered elsewhere. If it takes 20+ hours to experience, it fits here.
  4. Winter Holiday: Spoiler period for releases during the final quarter of the year is an appropriate period of time after December 25th. This is mostly to give probable holiday gifts some slack.

Character Policy

This covers our community's character policies.

  1. Alt Interaction: A player's characters shouldn't give their other characters ('alts') an undue or unfair advantage, deprive other players of RP, or act for self-promotion.
  2. Close Relations: Players have the privilege to vet the players of characters directly and closely tied to their own. Romantic and family ties are the most prominent examples, but others may apply at staff discretion.
  3. Naming Policy: Characters must have the name their player wishes the character to be known by most of the time. If for example you play a superhero, and want them to be known by their superhero moniker, their @name should be the moniker.
  4. Idle Policy: Character idleness is determined by a combination of recent logins and logged scenes. Any character that hasn't been logged on for 180 days may be considered for purging. Sufficiently out-of-date characters might be unapproved and require re-approval to return to play.
  5. Character Aging: In source materials where the age bracket of a cast is integral to its genre and aging of the cast would result in a tone shift, we permit players of those characters to fudge the relation between real time and their character's age so that they are not beholden to a strict countdown of playability. This isn't a mechanic of the Multiverse, just a courtesy we extend on a case-by-case basis, and may be altered when a character has been played for long enough.

Character Limits

This covers how many characters you can play. Generally referred to as character slots!

Character slots are divided into three categories: Faction Slots, Free Slots, and Nemesis Slots.

  1. Faction slots, of which everyone has three (3): One for the Concord, Paladins, and Watch. Each of these slots can only be used for a character in those factions.
  2. Free Slots, of which everyone has four (4). Anything can go here!
  3. Nemesis Slots, of which everyone has one (1). Characters in this category are adversarial in nature and have to fill out an extra application section.

Character Consent Policy

Multiverse Crisis MUSH is a consent-based roleplaying environment. Normally, this means any lasting changes or damage to your character requires your permission. You're protected from somebody making hard declarations about what happens to your character without your input. There are a few caveats to this:

  1. Death Consent: Permanent damage or death to a character is consent-based. Unless they do something outrageously stupid, your character won't die without your say so. In the case of canon characters you will be expected to have discussed the matter with Staff and your cast members, and it may not always be acceptable for a character to be permanently removed from play in a given theme listing. Staff has discretion in revoking your right to character consent.
  2. The Tiger's Mouth: If you put your character's state at dire issue, such as placing their head in a tiger's mouth, you're explicitly ceding some amount of consent. If your characters get in a fight, you're giving consent for them to be hurt and can't invoke consent to avoid losing. Extreme actions can result in more extreme presumptions of ceded consent.
  3. Disadvantage Consent: Disadvantages are not an opt-in (or opt-out) situation for characters. They're consent given for the character to be interacted with in a certain way that isn't advantageous for them.
  4. Plot Consent: Plots may require participants to waive their right to various levels of consent. Character death consent can't be waived in this way, and players must be made aware of broad plot risks before entering a plot or scene.

Character Audit Policy

Approved characters may be subject to audits for a variety of reasons, a non-comprehensive list of which are below.

  1. Honest Mistakes:If you forget something in the application process, it's simple to request to get it fixed in post-approval.
  2. Policy Adjustment: A policy adjustment audit occurs when the MUSH's existing ruleset is changed and characters fall out of compliance with those rules. All characters are expected to comply with all policies and nearly all rule changes that require character edits will come with a sunset period that adjustments should be filed in.
  3. Traps of Ignorance: Because we allow a large variety of source materials and extremely quick-and-dirty integration of new source materials, staff is often ignorant of content that is being asked for. Staff reserves the right to adjust characters and themes approved from a position of ignorance, particularly if that ignorance lead to the characters or themes being granted undue advantage.

Revision Notes

Updated December of 2025.

  1. Age requirement increased from 16 to 20 under Disclaimer.
  2. Scrubbed old MUSH terminology from our ERP policy, gave it a milder tone.
  3. Updated our stance on politics and political discussion in Core Policy and Channel Policy.
  4. Adjusted the language of Core Policy 1.
  5. Made 'Rules lawyering is bad' its own list entry
  6. Removed most Staff Interaction policy, as much of it is redundant. Point 1 (Staff will probably make a call personally bad for you) is covered by core policy 1, core policy 3 doesn't really need to be stated (Staff isn't required to be unbiased).
  7. Gave more clear examples of Acceptable Content, removed restated rating range. This is mostly unchanged.
  8. Removed NC-18 rating+acceptable content channel policy because you're required to be 18 to be in our community.
  9. Ancient spoiler notes removed.
  10. Migrated the "Characters" policy file to this file.
  11. Removed canon character distinctions from Idle Policy; we're not a roster game, we don't have activity requirements.
  12. Removed the Heel-Cool Rule and Running Gags under 'Characters'.
  13. Slight phrasing changes all around.
  14. Moved alt limits to its own section and fundamentally changed how alt slots work; there are now three faction slots, four free slots, and one (pending) nemesis slot. As of this writing, Nemesis is a system-in-progress. This is still generally not live!
