The Watch

"The liberty of the Multiverse is in our hands."

The Watch is, at its most fundamental, an organization that demands action now. The precise origins of the organization are a mystery, though it's generally accepted that they emerged from the tumult of the A.U. 26 collapse of the Ascendancy and the Union alongside the Concord and Paladins. The one thing they agree with them about is this-- the old order was irredeemably bad, and even the best of it deserved to be burned to the ground. The first cells of the Watch more than likely rose from resistance movements within some of the worst worlds of the Ascendancy, but those original cells have little to do with the organization that exists now.

Decentralization is key to the Watch. They're not a government, they're not a military, they're not specifically a criminal enterprise, and ultimately they don't usually want or intend to hold territory. Their goal is to undermine and undo systemic problems by attacking the source of the problems and, when possible, propping up the opposition to problematic systems.

More than any other organization in Sector Zero, the Watch emphasizes that Elites can bring about radical change quicker than anyone else and should use that to correct the failings of systems that are otherwise too big for people to convince or even attack.

Joining the Watch is more a matter of finding one's self involved in a comms network of parties with only roughly mutual goals. It usually happens less as a part of a specific organizational recruitment and more as a recruitment to one of the Watch's many cells -- or divisions -- which are often based out of specific worlds and tuned to the specific problems of those worlds. The vetting process might be loose or strict, but there is one overriding rule-- don't rat out other members of the Watch.
