- Samar (494) has posed:
The Northern Mountains are a familiar place for Samar, but this time, she's arriving in a slightly different fashion.
By the time her opponent is here, the Battleship-Symbiotic Princess is already in her Leviathan Mode. The gigantic Abyssal, now easily about as tall as a battleship itself is long, clutches to one of the mountain range's many peaks, her much larger symbiote as usual serving as her mount while she lounges on its back.
The mountain of flesh and metal hisses and snarls, red steam and black ichor seeping from between its teeth as it looms over the mountainside like some kind of movie giant monster. Samar, as always, sits propped up on her elbows, red eyes scanning the horizon for Noble Six's arrival.
The audience, naturally, is quite some distance away from the arena. They'll have to get a closer look from the various floating cameras stationed around the mountains.
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
The SPARTAN-III had been planning on coming to battle the normal way that she would, arriving on the arena field clad in full armor. Of course spotting the form that her opponent has come to the arena sporting, she has come into the battlefield.
Overhead, there's the sound of a Pelian dropship. It swoops down over the battlefield and then comes to a hover near Noble Six, dropping off it's payload. Noble Six waits for the vehicle to fly off, and she mounts up into the MANTIS mech suit. It's not as big as Samar is, but it will definitely augment Noble Six's abilities.
- Samar (494) has posed:
A mech suit? Well, /that/ definitely changes things up.
Samar's expression grows to a toothy smirk. "Interesting. Someone who's finally my size?" She leans forward a little further, one hand coming down to caress the head of her symbiote as if it were some fond pet. The creature's maw opens wider, releasing a mechanical growl that echoes through the mountain range. "Well, I'm definitely eager to see what you can do. Why waste any more time?"
As if responding to her cue, the symbiote suddenly opens fire. It's only two brief opening volleys from the smaller guns along the creature's torso, but this is still a battleship's level of artillery. And they're anti-air guns, too, their shells exploding in the air when they reach the MANTIS!
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
With her opponent on more even footing than previously, Six adjusts the armor and shifts it's weight. Of course Samar comes in and opens fire, unleashing battleship cannons upon the powered exoskeleton. Explosions kick up dirt and rocks around her as the rounds hit, and Six's vehicle stumbles back.
These things are next to impossible to knock over thanks to the hydraulic systems in the legs, and it recovers quickly, unleashing a return fire from the 25mm gatling gun mounted on the right arm. The weapon spins to life and then unleashes a rain of lead back at the abyssal battleship.
- Samar (494) has posed:
Bullets fly, pinging along solid black metal and digging into pale flesh. The symbiote gives a foghorn-like howl as it feels one bury itself deep in its arm, but it holds its ground; it would take more than that to make the beast topple.
"Do you often fight things this size in something like that," Samar inquires, tilting her head in slight curiosity as if this were a peaceful conversation rather than the middle of an explosive battle. "It certainly seems sturdy enough." Her symbiote fires yet again, but this is more direct: a smaller explosive shell aimed right for the MANTIS's cockpit, fired to force Six to move or find herself knocked out of the fight all too early.
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
"The Covenant has their Scarabs, they're massive multi-legged tanks." Noble Six replies. Though when the next shots come in, the armor dodges to the side, taking the round in the shoulder and sending the explosion up. The cockpit rattles but thankfully stays intact.
"These were designed to counteract them. Seemed like a good thing to bust out." The left arm of the mech has those tubes, each one filled with a homing missile. It's not hard to lock onto a target as big as her opponent, but if the missiles can penetrate the armor has yet to be seen.
- Samar (494) has posed:
The missile fires, and in a show of quick thinking, the symbiote lifts its hand, using its palm as a shield. Its fist closes around the missile, and the explosion goes off in the beast's hand: once it opens again, a significantly large chunk of flesh is simply blasted off, but, strangely, no blood comes from the obvious wound.
The symbiote doesn't seem to mind, bringing its hand back down to support its massive body.
Samar's laugh echoes over the mountains, just as another peal of cannon fire rings out from another volley falling down on Six's mech. "They seem to be doing the job. Your engineers are skilled, judging by armor alone. But...I wonder how much longer it will hold out?"
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
The rounds pound in on Noble Six's position, and she does what she can to defend against it. This time the shields around the armor flare up, showing it has a similar energy shield to Noble Six's own armor, "This thing's just full of surprises."
With the shields absorbing most of the damage, Six quickly returns to the fight, again bringing the gatling gun to bear on her opponent, unleashing the fury of the 25mm slugs, sending another spray of them at her target.
She has to wonder how long the armor can hold up too. It's not built to fight alien symbiotes or anything like that, just Covenant technology. She's having to adapt and overcome.
- Samar (494) has posed:
Samar's expression shifts from that smug smirk to a faintly curious tilt of her head. "Indeed it is..."
Bullets pound across the symbiote's hull, denting black armor and piercing through pale flesh with remarkable accuracy. Multiple wounds are clear on the beast's frame on close inspection, but still not a drop of blood flows from it.
Still, though, it can apparently feel pain. It hunches back slightly, growling its pain and fury before one arm lifts up toward Noble Six. It's not a punch - not quite, at least. More like a flick, its massive fingers swatting forward to smack Six away like a particularly annoying bug. Of course, with as muscular and large as it is, that's going to be quite a strike still.
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
The armor's shields are not designed to withstand melee attacks like that, so they don't trigger when the impact hits, instead the armor being knocked through the air. The vehicle lands hard, but the twin legs manage to push themselves back up to their feet.
The armor can engage in close quarters combat though, and Noble Six opens fire with the chain gun again while moving back to get into range. The weapon spins up and spits lead and fire, until she's in range, when she thrusts the whole machine forward and kicks out with one of those alloy feet to deal damage the old fashioned way.
- Samar (494) has posed:
The symbiote's hand comes back down where it extended, grasping onto the opposing mountainside and pulling it forward into a slow lumber.
"Not quite built for melee, is it," Samar calls, smiling slightly once more as her mount comes to another halt. This, however, is partially thanks to the barrage that Noble Six lands on it, blasting along its softer arm with gunfire before a solid kick slams against its bulky metal frame. The armor dents inward, smoke starting to seep from the damaged hull. The beast lowers its head, snarling down at Noble Six as if offended that she would /try/ to use its own tactics against it.
Almost casually, the brute lifts its arm around and simply tries to grab the MANTIS. Its massive fingers curl around the mech before it tosses the vehicle aside toward another nearby cliffside!
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
The vehicle is not built for melee, and it shows when it's casually tossed like a rag doll. The vehicle crashes down hard, alarm indicators going off inside of Noble Six's cockpit. This thing doesn't have much left, it seems. She'll go ahead and give it everything it's got though.
Shaking legs are risen back up onto, and Noble Six turns the cannon and missile launcher on her opponent, unleashing every bit of ammo the mech suit has left in it, a mass of lead and explosive weaponry flying through the air towards the larger target.
She has one more card up her sleeve after this, but she's saving that one for the last possible moment. It's sort of an all or nothing attack, and she'd rather not waste it.
- Samar (494) has posed:
The Battleship-Symbiotic Princess turns back to face Six, the lumbering hulk letting out a low, mechanical bellow in threat. Cannons begin to swivel down to face the struggling mech, but before Samar can command it to fire, Six proves to be faster on the trigger.
Blast after blast lands against the symbiote's hull, exploding through black metal and sending up plumes of fire and smoke. More than a few guns along the beast's torso are severely damaged; the creature howls, staggering back slightly and tearing up trees and earth below.
Samar doesn't look /quite/ so confident anymore.
"Fire!" Samar's shout is paired with her fist slamming onto the symbiote's head. It immediately obeys, the main cannons mounted on its shoulders firing significantly larger and more powerful shells to explode on Noble Six. The mech can't hold out much longer, right? But neither can the symbiote, at this rate...
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
As the cannons turn on her, Noble Six pushes the controls on the mech forward. Instead of retreating from the incoming shots, she charges forwards. The first round hits where she had been a moment before, she is no longer there. The other shots are more accurate, explosions detonating around the mech as it charges. Quite suddenly, it leaps into the air.
Inside, Noble Six slams down on the ejection button and goes flying out of the top of the mech. Inside, the countdown timer for the self destruct sequence is ticking down, and as the mech crashes down near Samar, that timer reaches 0.
When it hits 0, the mech detonates in a massive explosion, the range and proximity should hopefully be enough to deal major damage to the abyssal.
- Samar (494) has posed:
Samar, however, is clever. Why would her opponent suddenly rush toward her if she weren't planning something? No, the Abyssal Princess isn't going to take any risks with /this/ sort of battle.
It seems to end up saving her quite a bit more than she could have expected.
The symbiote's hand swings out, slamming into the mech hurtling toward it and sending it flying back. It's just in time, too: the explosion goes off far enough away for the lumbering beast to suffer little more than some burning along its arm, and its attention immediately turns back toward Noble Six.
Its maw widens, and the depths of its throat begin to glow a brighter and brighter red. Power grows in the symbiote's chest, building enough to make its metal frame rattle and shudder.
And then all of it is suddenly blasted forward in a swirling crimson beam from the symbiote's mouth, all of an Abyssal's hatred and fury and agony condensed into a single, blazing beam that scorches the landscape it touches. How will Noble Six handle it?
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
She's not going to be able to get out of the way, so after she lands from the ejection, she drops down to one knee and sets herself up to deflect. The blast lays into her with full fury, blasting clear through her defenses and sending her rolling along the ground. She digs her hand into the stone and keeps herself from being propelled out of the combat area entirely.
She gets back up, however. She's not out for the count yet. As the scored armor rises up to it's feed again, Noble Six takes the weapon on her back and brings it to bear. It's not much larger than a rocket launcher, but it's anything but.
The weapon gets a massive red charge building it in as it charges, the aiming beam planting itself center mass on her opponent, as she pulls the trigger, unleashing the SPARTAN laser's blast at the abyssal, giving it everything she has.
- Samar (494) has posed:
Rolling steam seeps from between the creature's teeth once that beam finally fades away. It lurches slightly where it stands, its energy sapped from that powerful attack. Samar, however, sits up straight, leering down at Noble Six...and cursing faintly when she gets back on her feet.
The creature's main cannons aim down at the Spartan again, but before she can fire, a red blast suddenly shoots through the air...piercing right through Samar's shoulder.
Pain shoots through her, and shock snaps her eyes wide open. She gasps, and though no blood comes from the hole right through her shoulder, it still obviously /hurts/. A /lot/.
The Princess almost seems too shocked to react, but the symbiote isn't. With another howl, its main cannons fire down on Six again, blasting shells one after the other to try and finish off the Spartan as quickly as possible. Its master is in danger; it must act, and quickly.
- Noble Six (38) has posed:
This time Noble Six isn't able to get any more shots off as the rounds impact around her. The weapon hasn't charged again and she can't swap weapons fast enough. As the cannon shots hit around her, the explosions engulf her entirely.
Eventually the smoke and dust clears, and a winner has been determined, as she's very much unconcious laying there in the crater that was in the spot where she had been.
- Samar (494) has posed:
The cannons finally cease after a few of those powerful blasts, the symbiote having expended the majority of its energy. Samar's attention is still on her injury; she almost hasn't noticed that Noble Six is down, at least not until the victor is announced.
The Princess turns to look down at Noble Six, staring at the downed Spartan for several silent moments. Finally, though, she lifts her head, straightening up and trying to attain something of a regal form again. "...well done," she remarks, no doubt begrudgingly.
She still does not like being hit. And especially not in a battle this close. She'll have to be more careful next time...
