Characters are the "Roles" in "Role Play". This news file covers Multiverse Crisis MUSH's character policies, including alts, alt interaction, idle policy, etc.
- Players may have up to 6 characters. 7th and 8th characters may be requested, but approval is case-by-case, and you must ask again every time you apply for a character beyond the normal cap, even if previously OK'd.
- Characters from MU*'s we've absorbed don't count towards character limits, nor do "TP" characters.
- Players may have secret alts, but this is a privilege that may be revoked. Staff will ALWAYS know who secret alts are, and special circumstances may see them revealed to others.
- Limited alt interaction is allowed, but not encouraged. It shouldn't give either alt an undue or unfair advantage, OR deprive other players of RP. Don't RP with yourself or use alts for self-promotion.
- Players may not usually play two, closely-related characters simultaneously. For instance, both Dr. Wily and Megaman, or Dumbledore and Voldemort.
- Idle Policy: Case-by-case. We expect a minimum number of logged scenes per month based on character type (FC/OFC/OC) and circumstances, but unless there is a specific complaint/the character is in-demand we usually won't make much of a fuss about it. If your idleness is obstructive to another player, being removed for being idle IS on the table. Characters who are sufficiently out of date may be unapproved and require re-approval to re-enter play. We do clean up accounts that haven't been logged into for a long time periodically, however.
- Character Audits/Reviews may occur, either for disciplinary or clean-up reasons. Whatever the case is, sometimes characters need to be scrubbed from top to bottom, even if it's only because they've accumulated too many Advantages and lost focus on what their concept is meant to be. Usually this is a response to some kind of abuse, but can occur simply to correct bloat issues. If the MUSH experiences a major format change, such as when we switched from +Powers to +Adv, a Global audit may occur when everyone moves to the new system.
Notes
Aging: On a themelist-by-themelist basis, players have the option to elect for the people in their theme list not to age, or to age at a dramatically reduced rate. This is to allow settings to retain their tone where characters might otherwise grow up and experience a genre shift, like Cardcaptor Sakura or Nanoha. This option applies to ALL characters in a themelist though, and is not available in settings where mortality and death are major themes, such as Harry Potter. While this is a phenomenon that is known to occur in the Multiverse, it shouldn't be examined too closely or discussed at length.
Character Death: Permanent damage or death to a character is consent-based. Unless you do something outrageously stupid (it has happened), your character won't die without your say-so. In the case of FCs and OFCs you will be expected to have discussed the matter with Admin and your cast mates in advance, and it may not always be acceptable for a character to be permanently removed from play in a given theme listing. With OCs it is entirely up to the player, but Staff does want players to discuss it with them to make sure they know what they're getting into. Lastly, unless a death is set up with resurrection in mind, character death is permanent.
Want to report a CharSquatter?: It's pretty easy to tell if somebody's done something recently. You can +scene/old <name> to see a list of time stamped logs.
