Synopsis: | Mairead meets a new voice for the first time, Penelope Vasquez |
Cast of Characters: | 6399, Mairead Sandilands |
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
It takes some time for the incoming woman to work her way through military security- patdowns, a mild stripdown, heavy inspection, the works- they nearly start to take apart the motorcycle she rode in on before she raises mild fuss. Eventually, she's able to break free, riding down the road and inspecting the incoming city before pulling to the side, outside the monorail station. She runs a hand through her hair- the unsafe woman doesn't ride with a helmet, how ghastly- as she looks into the middle distance. Her voice begins to prattle out of Mairead's communication device again. "I'm here. I think. Pretty sure. Where'm I headed, who I looking for?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
After getting a surprised phone call, Mairead was shocked at the other person and when they talked it was Patty. Thinking, Mairea offered to have PAtty meet her in Tokyo and provided her with the coordinates on the warpgate and where she would be at. Waiting, she blinks as the person arrives and she grins, "Ye are here aye," she says as she walks up and curtsey's to Penelope, "I am Mairead Sandilands, welcome ot Academy Island," she adds.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
'Patty' looks more than a little surprised herself as Mairead steps near and approaches- she smiles faintly at the curtsey as she steps off of her ride, an unadorned and boxy utalitarian thing. The smile doesn't quite reach her eyes. The wary things scan the young woman up and down, taking her in. After an awkward second or two, she smiles more earnestly, not bothering for a returned curtsey, instead just extending a hand. "Don't think we need the dumb name business. Pen. Good to meet you." She laughs a little, looking back down the road, vaguely towards the warpgate. "Place is very similar to home. At least the scrutiny of it all. Apparently, I'm clean."
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
accepts the hand and nods, "Aye," she says. "It is a habit for me," she says to her as she studies the lady. Mairead has no special powers, magic, mind reading, cybernetics, nanites, et al. All she has is a suit of power armor that is hidden right now and she is shorter than Pen, "Nice to meet ya Pen," she adds. "I take it ye had no trouble getting here and I am sure the guards did not have any problems with ye," she ask as she stands there.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
"Of course not. I am a paragon of cooperation with all forms of government." Penelope replies, with another soft little laugh- she raises a finger, before turning, leaning over the bike to produce two unlabeled brown glass bottles from a compartment on the side. One has it's top popped against the handlebar, the other offered to the shorter woman. "Said I'd B you a B. Good stuff. Academy island. Big university here, I assume?" The question is accompanied by a wave of the offered beer towards the IS Academy building itself. A beat, and the beer is retracted, with a raise of Penelope's brows. "...how old're you?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Blinks as she takes the offered bottle, "I am 18," she states as she studies the bottle, "What is in here?" she asks as she is not sure and shrugs as she takes the top off if it is not off and raises it, "Cheers," she says as she takes a drink of it and blinks as she coughs. Mairead has never had a beer before. actually, she has never drank before. "Thank you," she says as she coughs a few more times.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
It's not strong stuff- an easy first drink. Very hoppy. Arguably tasty, to those who have a taste for beer. Penelope takes a swig of her own. A little wavy wiggle of her head as it goes down, grunting faintly. "Homebrew, a friend makes it. Good stuff." She looks back towards the Academy, relaxing in her lean against her bike. "This is my first time off my home turf. I was expecting something- I dunno. Crazy. This is homey, kinda. Looks just like the same city back where I'm from. Why you so eager to meet me, Sandy?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Thinking, she nods and looks, "Aye, it is me home," she says as she takes another drink and coughs, "I have never had beer before," she adds as she thinks at Penelope's question. "Cause it never hurts to know someone who is new in case you need someone to talk to. Plus in this strange place, friends is all we have."
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
Penelope considers, then nods, with another swig. "Amen to that. Always always always good to have contacts. Bit new to the whole other worlds thing, myself, so good to meet someone reasonable." She smiles down at the younger woman, nodding her head towards the monorail. "C'mon, we gonna stand outside all day? Anywhere good to sit down, talk? You got a home?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Chuckles, "Aye," she says to her as she gestures, "Lets go to me room, plus we have a cafeteria, if ye are hungry," she states. "There are students from all over my world here and so the food is very broad," she states. "All the students here, except one are ladies and if ye were a guy, ye would be running from all of them chasing ye." and she grins as she walks with Penelope.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
The latin woman chortles a laugh as she follows behind Mairead, allowing herself to be lead to her room. "Not hungry. But- exactly one guy, in a school of what looks like thousands? This a poor bastard and lucky guy situation." She's fully capable of walking and talking- idle chatter and observations along the path, if crude and somewhat blunt. She speaks again as they near the domicile. "Was wondering about the accent- not Jap at all. What's the school actually for, got takers from all over?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
chuckling, Mairead looks. "Those here are training to be pilots of Infinite Stratos," she mentions. "all of us are learning to work on them, pilot them and only a select few have personal units, others are support covering everything from medical to engineering. Ladies form every country in my world are here and they have to test to get in. The one lad here is unique and has enough trouble and most of the lasses here are only familiar with boys form magazines or Manga, so he is in good shape from all of the running and obvious to all of it." she says with a shrug. "There is rooms here for those to the Multiverse and all the students here live here year round, except for holidays and summer break when those who have families to go home too can."
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
"An... Infinite Stratos?" Penelope asks, walking along. "From the sound of it- ship? Ship type? Airbound, not sea. Military. Takes special training, hence all the young people... why all female, though?" The woman has been a fount of questions through the whole walk- finally reaching the dorms, she pauses outside the door, waiting for the resident to allow her inside.
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Mairead blinks as she ponders, "Infinite Stratos was used original as new suits for deep space operations. But it was found out that they can be used for battle and so they were redesigned and now are power armors used in battle. But there are strict rules that every country follows and they cannot be used in battle against armies without Infinite Stratos'. No one knows why only women cna pilot them, so the world powers has changed and now women have more control or powers." and she thinks. "We are not military, but we have all gone through military training, but each student has different skills they are better at, and we all work togther and do have our own rivals, but that is normal." and she opens the door. "Most here will look at you oddly, but most are friendly," and she walks to the stairs.
Walking up the stairs tot he second floor, Mairead walsk to her door and opens it. "Come on in," she says and Pen would see that Maireads room is bland. There are 2 single beds for each other, a bathroom that they can share. Additionally, there are two dressers a computer desk with a laptop on it and a tv/monitor. On one of the beds, is a wool tartan in Mairead's clan over the bed and on the wall near the dresser is a picture of Mairead and her parents. Additionally, there is a closet for each in the room. The walls are white and opposite the door, are two floor to ceiling windows with calm blue curtins that when looked out of, allows you to see the ocean. While in the corner of her room, there is a small table that has been setup with a picture of Mairead's mother and father, a candle that is in front of it and some flowers.
Pulling out a chair, MAiread offers it to Pen, "I take it that where ye are from, it is similar to here?" she asks.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
Penelope wanders in after the girl, taking a moment to look around as she gets herself situated. She's not used to this kind of comfort in a room, and it shows. She takes a long, long look out the window, watching the ocean flow, before bringing herself back to the waking world and settling into the offered seat. It creaks gently as she leans back- testing it, before releasing her weight fully. She starts to answer in the affirmative, before pausing, and shaking her head. "...yes and no. I'm from Earth- a earth, I guess. A lot like this one. City, sky, people, all the same. Boston in particular. But my place is..."
"...it's dirty, Sandy." She eventually decides, giving the other woman a firm eye. "Dirty. Very. Not clean and calm like what you got here. Sky's smoggy. Ocean is a sludgepit, not what you got out the window there. Concrete and steel. I can barely remember when I saw so many trees. I dunno how long you been at this, exploring around other places, but- make sure you appreciate what you got here at home, right? I been here barely an hour and I already am."
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Nodding, Mairead looks, "I am sorry to here," she says to her. "I know that many of the Earths or Earth like places I have visited is similar but different. I am sure that there is some trees where ye are from," she says. "But if ye needs a place to stay, ye are welcomed to stay here," she offers as she thinks, "So ye have never been to the beach before?" she asks.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
A shake of the head. Penelope adjusts her coat, covering herself a tad more. Doesn't seem to be affected by the heat, or at least, isn't outwardly showing it. A dismissive wave of the hand and the idea. "Nah. Docks, sure, but- don't think we have beaches anymore. Never been down in Boca or Hawaii or wherever isn't such a shithole. It's expensive, and I got a little money, but I don't got that kind of money."
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Blinking, Mairead looks and raises an eyebrow as she thinks, "There are a lot of places or 'shitholes' aroudn the Multiverse, some more than others," she comments a she takes another drink of her beer. "If ye want, we can get some cloths for the beach," she says to her. "Its nice to sit and relax, hearing the ocean and the waves, plus I have a friend that cna help on a nice place to relax," and she ponders something as she smiles. "I have never been to Hawaii. In Scotland, we do not have many places that are warm enough for swimsuits, but we do have beachs," and she thinks. "That is if ye want to," she adds.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
Through the meet 'n greet, Penelope has been fairly laid back, casual. Confident, even in the new environments, stunning as they may be to her. But at that proposal, she actually starts, raising a brow. A tint of... nervousness, in her expression? Squashed quickly. She looses a faint chuckle, and moves to lift her beer again, only to find it empty. Must've drained it in the simple walk up to the dorm. "Iiiiiii appreciate the thought, but- look at me. Wouldn't fit in much." A gesture up and down at herself, as if simply displaying her own body is enough to convey her point. "Besides- would need to leave all my things here, which- nice as you seem- isn't advisable... it'd be a whole thing. Don't wanna hassle you."
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Mairead blinks as she listens to Penelope, "I have a few friends that are similar but it never hurts to try somthing new. If you like than you do, if not, you can at least say you have tried it," she mentions t her. "And it is ok, I am one who helps nad it is not a problem. Me roommate is on vacation back to her home and will not be back for a few weeks, and we have a number of open rooms for those whoa re new to the Multiverse," she adds. "And getting cloths is easy," she says to her.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
Penelope looks more and more uncomfortable as she listens, struggling to and failing to find plausible excuses to avoid heading to the beach. The pale-ish woman sucks in on the corner of her lip, looking out the window- before giving up, sighing as she rises. "Fine, sure, sure." She sounds much more resigned than excited. "I don't think we need special clothes, I'm not going in the water. But we can head down, sure." She strips off the heavy coat, revealing the scabbard strapped to her back fully- long, thin, with a hook on the end. Tugged off as well, along with her firearms- all just laid on the empty bed, with some care. A pause. She lifts the scabbard by it's middle, straightening her unitard with one hand as she displays it with the other. "Gonna get odd looks if I take this down with me?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Chuckling, Mairead looks, "I do not think so," she says as she offers the door, "And it is not that bad," she says to her. "Plus there is a lot of different weapons here, and power armos," she says to her as she looks and walks with her. "Here, let me show you," she adds as they walk and as they head for the beach, they walk towards an open area where there are a few women wearing green swimsuit like outfits and are using katana while wearing what looks like power armor that is more akin to samuari armor. They are currently working on swings and slashes.
"This is one of the training Infinite Stratos all students practice in and learn how to use them," she states. "We all go through this training and even fight each other," she adds as he gestures ot the areana off in the distance, "There were use live weapons to practice in mock combat and a lot of the personal Infinite Stratos train there," she mentions. "Some of the studens carry their own weapons with them, while others carry a lot more," and she smiles at that. "But when we are done with classes and relax, we do many things, walking, reading, swimming, and just having fun, usually at the one boys expense," she adds."Although I am not one to chase lads." she mentions as she continues on to the beach.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
Penelope is instantly more relaxed as she's given the clearance to re-strap the blade to her back. Her boots dig into the sand as she steps along with Mairead, studying the practicing girls as they walk. "...right. Nearly forgot this was a military place. Odd feel of it. Good kata on that one." An idle finger at one of the katana-wielders. The lanky woman stretches in the sunlight, taking a long, long breath as she shifts her feet, getting a feel for her balance on the sand. She is monumentally out of place- like a monochrome figure in a colored painting.
Eventually, after wandering a small distance from anyone else using the beach to relax, Penelope lowers herself to the sand, folding her legs into a crisscross. She pats the sand, inviting Sandiland to join her. "What sort of things you train with? I assume you aren't the sole non-violent here."
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Smiling, Mairead sits down next to Penelope, "I am a close-quarters combat specalist," she states. I specalise in the Scottish Broadsword," she adds. "I am also a master swordswomen. I also am trained in the use of rifles and machine guns, air to air combat and can speak, read and write in five languages." As she sits, she looks at Penelope, "How about you?" she asks with her scottish accented voice.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
Penelope smiles back, huffing a breath through her nose as the younger woman rattles off her resume- something like a laugh, small as it is. Goodnatured, certainly. She leans back on her arms, watching the slow cascade of waves on the shore as she soaks in the sun. "I mean- you saw what I had on me, so I doubt I need to elaborate hard, chica. No particular specialization, blades-wise, but... have a fondness for this design." She reaches behind her neck, pulling the blade from the scabbard there- slowly, deliberately. It's straight with a hook on the end, much the same shape as it's holder- there's a thin cut through the whole thing to allow it to be drawn smoothly without said hook catching. She sets the blade flat on her knees as she displays it. About half the length of Penelope's body, simple, unadorned. Well maintained. Despite her accent, she pronounces the blade's name perfectly. "Ram-Dao. Nepalise. Originally used for bloodletting, sacrificial- see how the curve here is supposed to catch on a neck, cut all at once? Even flow. Very solid weapon." She continues to prattle as she stows it back away. "Not much formal education, outside of how to handle myself- fluent in English, halfway in Jap and Espanol." Hard n. Wrong. "Air to air- those suits of yours fly?
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Nods as she looks at the sword, "Aye, my suit is designed for close-quarters, but also has ranged weapons," she says. "All Infinite stratos are flight capable and can fly at speed os 500 mph," she adds as she leans back and places her hands behind her head, "We can name out all weapons just from training, and can spot similar people that have gone through the training we do or similar to us, although, similar, there are many different aspects," she adds.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
Penelope whistles long and low. "Five hundred- goddamn. That's some slick tech. We got vehicles that go that fast, but nothing man-portable." Brow raises again towards the end of the sentence, the woman looking aside to her companion. "...huh. If you can spot the similar, what'd you make of me, on first seeing? Be honest. Won't get insulted."
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Thinking, Mairead looks, "Someone who has had training fo rmany years, and one who is reserved and does not show off," she says. "Someone who is not use to somethign outside what they are aware of or familiar with and is always ready for anything to happen." she states simply.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
"Close." Penelope replies, with a teasing smile- she tosses a jab at the younger girl's shoulder. "I show off like a motherfucker when it's time to show. Just- y'know, meeting someone, enjoying new spaces, not the time. Inappropriate." She leans back into her own personal space, eying the girl up and down again, before speaking. "You, being honest- you don't look hard. Wouldn't pick you out of a college girl crowd. Kinda cute, in the college girl kinda way. I feel like I need to make judging by appearances a bad habit, but- outward. Normal girl, from you."
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Looking, she shrugs, "I am far from a normal girl," Mairead states. "Me father was a priest in the Catholic church and me mother was the ruler of me clan, but both were killed in a bombing a year ago. I was raised to be a pilot and so from a young age was trained and schooled in many things and I have lived at the IS Academy for the last two years, and spent six months in a coma to heal from injuries I received in a battle so missed out on a lot of things," she says as she closes her eyes. "I was not too active when I first got here to get to know people, but after my recovery and the lost of me parents, I make an effort to meet people and get to knwo them," she adds.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
At that, Penelope gives pause. Smile melts away, but surprise doesn't register in her expression- not much does, as she stares at the girl, eyes harder. She chews on a lip's corner, before reaching a long arm. A gentle pat at shoulder, falling away as quickly as it came. She turns back to the ocean.
"I... am sorry to hear that, Sandy. Really. Kids shouldn't have to outlive their parents." A short while, of just listening to the waves. "...you alright, overall?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Nodding, MAiread smiles, "I am," she says. "There are days I think why I do this, and spend my time learning to be a fighter and than I look at the friends I have made and those I have helppe din combat and so I know that this is part of life," and she sighs. "Me father taught me that when it is our time, that we should accept that and not be scared. And I know that when it is my time, I will be ready, whenever that is, but I do miss my parents. I do not return back to Scotland, unless I have too, so I live here," and she looks. "I do visit friends and stay there, and I know I have other places to go if I need to, but I am more familiar here and have a year left before I am done with my schooling and either return to Scotland, or become an instructor here."
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
A small nod is all Penelope offers- satisfied by the answer, it seems. Another pat on the shoulder. She rises from the sand, stretching a leg as she speaks. "Well, Sandy- wish you luck with it. I should probably get home though. Got work tomorrow morning." She sounds a little regretful about it, sighing as she studies the waves again. Another look down to the student, before the draws her blade- a quick flick of her wrist has it spin nearly on the spot in the air, and she clenches the blade in a hand, drawing in the sand with the weapon's hilt.
"That's a contact number for me. Keep it to yourself. Memorize it and scuff it when you're done. Keep safe when I don't have an eye on you, right?"
- Mairead Sandilands has posed:
Mairead looks as she stands, Mairead dushs th sand off her legs and looks at the info in the stand, "Thank you, and if you need a place to relax and just get out of the norm, ye are welcomed here," she states. "And next time we can try going swimming, only ye will need a swimsuit for that," and she chuckles at hat remark as she walks Penelope back to her bike and than to the exit of the Academy, "Again, you are free to visit and stay," she adds.
- Penelope Vasquez (6399) has posed:
"I promise, I'll take that up on you sometime." Penelope replies earnestly, mounting the vehicle again. The boxy thing purrs to life, electric motor humming faintly. There's no protracted goodbye, or any fanfare- the redressed woman simply speeds off quietly, the ends of her coat flapping in the breeze near her legs as she makes her way back home.
