Synopsis: | Sanary is called to Soujis office with Audrey Stormfiest to provide her with a very special opportunity... |
Cast of Characters: | 627, 652, Sanary Rondel |
- Souji Murasame (627) has posed:
Sanary has been invited to Souji's personal office for a meeting, and Audrey is given permission to accompany her. After all, she currently needs a guide anyway.
The dominating feature of the office is a massive window that looks out over the city, the skyline crackling with lightning and neon. There is a desk of dark, varnished wood with an inset Galiandan computer, as well as a stack of papers and other accoutrements. Souji appreciates order and efficiency in his workspace. The chair behind it is large and of black leather. On one wall is a bookshelf, while the other has a doorway that appears to have a keycard lock of some kind. There are hanging wall scrolls of subdued landscapes, and a couple display cases holding masks of various types.
Souji himself is looking out the window over the thunder and lighting-wracked landscape, turning as Audrey and Sanary arrive. "Good to see you both. Please, sit." He indicates the seats before the desk, both also leather and eminently comfortable.
- Audrey Stormfist (652) has posed:
Does Audrey really need a reason to be in senpai's office?
It's an offer she'd take no matter the circumstances. Helping get Sanary there is good enough for her. Dressed in her pristine dark blue overcoat, as if she ever wore anything else, the Heritor slash Monk would have happily guided Sanary to the office, and then to one of the chairs before Souji's desk as they are told to sit.
She would, naturally, salute before sitting.
"Sir."
- Sanary Rondel has posed:
Although Sanary was used to the layout of some areas of the building, the location of Souji's office was still foreign to her. Having Audrey guide her there made finding the place much easier, and the healer has enough sense to at least attempt some form of formality as she steps inside.
Evening, Souji. Got a mission ready for us?" She's certainly eager, and she attempts a vague attempt at a salute before sitting on one of the chairs as well.
- Souji Murasame (627) has posed:
Souji nods at the salutes. If he has a problem with Sanary's awkward performance, he says nothing, instead sitting down at the desk himself and folding his hands. "Miss Rondel. I have called you to discuss with you an opportunity that has arisen that is particularly... relevant to your situation. But before I continue, I would like to ask of you: Do you wish to be able to see again?"
He does not address Stormfist directly, yet. That will come in a moment.
- Audrey Stormfist (652) has posed:
To see again? That certainly is a question.
It's obvious if White Magic alone could cure Sanary, they would have already attempted it. Or perhaps they did, and failed. But the point is that her case is likely beyond the miracles of even an experienced White Mage, so what else could Souji have in mind?
Audrey is not addressed, though, so she does not speak out of turn.
- Sanary Rondel has posed:
The healer raises an eyebrow, a confused expression on her face despite the lack of actual sight in her eye. "So it's not.. Huh? Uh. That would be great if it could happen, yeah." She pauses for a moment, a flicker of hope appearing in that faded eye slowly. "Is there a job or something that's paying with... Eye-fixing magic or something? Because I'm completely willing to take the job."
- Souji Murasame (627) has posed:
"My men assure me that is is quite possible." He replies, pausing.
"This is, in a way, an advance payment. Logically, if your sight was restored you would be more effective in your duties, even with all of your efforts to compensate."
He pauses, tapping the desk for a moment as he grows contemplative. "Stormfist, I have asked you to be here because as a member of Adamant Squad, this concerns you as well. I will expect these discussions to be held in strictest confidence." He looks back to Sanary, then. "Miss Rondel, it has come to my attention that there is an experimental operation which we can perform that would provide you with a prosthetic eye. It would look much like a normal eye, but be powered by your inherent magical power. While powered, you will be able to see through the prosthetic, as well as gain access to some additional abilities through embedded spells."
He pauses. "Due to the... nature of the operation, it will be very important that the source of the prosthetic is not disclosed before it is time to make a public announcement. You will be contributing to the advancement of Galiandan science in your own way in this manner, of course."
- Sanary Rondel has posed:
Sanary purses her lips lightly as Souji speaks, listening intently as he speaks. "Makes sense... Shit. There's something for everything here, isn't there?" She laughs lightly, not bothering to hide her excitement at the prospect of actually being able to see again. She does seem mildly confused at the mention of confidentiality regarding the source however, but nods after a few moments.
"I can keep quiet about it, sure. Not really sure why you'd want to hide this kind of thing if it works, but... Not my place to question." She chuckles softly and rubs her neck, biting her lip for moment to try and restrain herself. "Does that include other people in this company, too? And... Uh. Should I just tell people I found it on the floor or in a cave somewhere if they ask?"
- Audrey Stormfist (652) has posed:
That... is a very big deal. Now she understands the need for her presence. This is Extremely Illegal, but that's what half of being in the higher echelons of the Zaibatsu is about. To advance requires sacrifice, and the rules of Galianda do not give them enough room to.
"Of course, sir. This will remain a secret of the highest level. Should Rondel accept, all discussions regarding the prosthetic will be kept to secure non-public channels, and I will provide a constant stream of performance reports whenever possible."
She also explains, for Sanary: "Augmentations are illegal in Galianda. There are numerous reasons for this, starting with the extreme difficulty in making them and how dangerous they are to their hosts. We have been studying Confederate models, however. If I may be so bold as to advance a guess, I believe mister Murasame is offering you one of the first functional, non-dangerous prototypes."
- Souji Murasame (627) has posed:
Souji nods. "Stormfist is correct. This design is a prortypr that combines knowledge from Confederate augmentation designs, adapted to Galiandan magitechnology." There is a gesture from him at this. "There is a great stigma against modifications in Galianda. They are considered... Unnatural." He emits a short sigh at that, perhaps a sign of his frustration.
"Regardless, we perservere. This is why it is important that you do not provide evidence that can be used against us. They can guess, but you must not confirm it. Without definitive proof, nothing can be done. It is a sign of my trust in both of you that this offer is being made in this manner. You may inform those within your Squad. They all are familiar with the rules on such. You may tell others that you gained it in another location. As you are not of Galianda, this is a plausible story."
He shifts in his chair, however, and focuses intently upon Sanary. "But before we continue, I must know this: To restore your sight, Is this your heart's desire?" Souji's words are direct, but oddly formal, as if they carry an unusual weight.
- Sanary Rondel has posed:
That would certainly explain the need for secrecy. "I get it... Kinda. Well, you wont' have to worry about me telling anyone." Smiling confidently, the healer hits her chest for emphasis before crossing her arms, leaning back in the chair to relax a bit. "Sounds simple enough, then. Just the squad can know, nobody else. I... Found it in a cave when I got drunk, thought shoving it in my eyehole was a good idea, and then I could see again."
The smile remains as Souji asks her the question, showing no hesitation whatsoever as she speaks up again. "I'm in."
- Audrey Stormfist (652) has posed:
"I would... suggest a slightly more detailed story, as such a simple one may seem suspicious. I will research which worlds offer realistic cybernetics and provide you with a list, it should be fairly easy to simply say you obtained it from a shop in Urbania or somesuch," Audrey answers Sanary, once she has also answered Souji.
"How long will the procedure take?"
- Souji Murasame (627) has posed:
Souji nods. "Very well." There is a note of finality to the tone, and the moment passes. "I agree. Working with Stormfist and the rest of Adamant Squad to ensure your story is believable will be advised. I will ensure any required documentation is produced if needed." And by 'produced' he means 'forged'. Welcome to the fun side of the Zaibatsu.
"I will have Stormfist escort you to the medical technicians when I have been alerted the procedure is ready to be performed. Congratulations, Miss Rondel. You may be helping to usher in a new age of Galiandan magitechnology." There is a faint smile, even though he knows she cannot see it.
For now.
- Sanary Rondel has posed:
Sanary chuckles awkwardly and nods, crossing her arms over her chest lightly. "True, true... Might need some time to memorize it all, but I'll make sure to keep it away from here. You've got my word on that, whatever that's worth."
She takes a deep breath as she casts her 'gaze' at the ceiling, the notion of actually having that mean something again bringing a broad grin to her face as she looks back down towards Souji again. "I'm honored to be a part of that. The sooner, the better."
