- Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber's message to Amalthea was brief. Terse. 'Meet me at Boston Harbor.'
Today was a cold day in winter, with snow falling from the sky as the half-angel was standing at the edge of the harbor, leaning over the railing and looking out at the water. His eyes stared straight out over the ocean while one gloved hand clutched a lit cigarette. He's totally waiting for her.
And when she arrives, he notes in a serious tone: "Thank you for coming."
- Amalthea (395) has posed:
It was as good an excuse to get out of the manse as any. Having spent the past few days sulking in her basement, the unicorn slouches out of her seat as the message hits her comm bead, rifling through her closet for something to throw on.
It doesn't take long for her to arrive at the harbor, unbothered by the chill even in just some ratty old jean cutoffs and a tie-dye t-shirt. Her favorite digs, usually.
"I am here now." She announces, settling just aside the half-angel to brace her arms on the rail and also stare off towards the sea. "Of course. You wanted to see me?"
- Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber doesn't stop looking out over the water, "Amalthea. I asked you here because you are one of a very small number of people I am going to be trusting with the full scope of my plan."
He looks towards her and takes a slow breath, "But. Once you know, you will be forced to make a decision. A decision which can never be unmade, and which will force you deeper into this division between your friends. But, it is also the option most likely to, inevitably, bring this schism to a close for good."
"I am giving you the option to walk away, because no one has more right to than you."
- Amalthea (395) has posed:
A slow breath, and the unicorn's eye closes, the misty steam hanging in the air for a moment. She is silent for a time, stock still, much like a cornered doe listening for a predator. There's a small buzz of her fingers on the rail before her eye opens again, turning to glance sidewards.
"It's not so simple as something to walk away from, we both know that. I see the worst of the ones I hold dearest come out more and more with every passing day now, and it won't stop if I turn my back and cover my ears."
Again she pauses, thoughtful but not hesitant, before her decision is made. "If you think it will bring this to a close, then you have my undivided attention."
- Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber takes a deep breath and then grips the railing tight in his hand. Tight enough one can hear the metal creak against his superhuman strength as he struggles to find words.
"Very well," Psyber begins, continuing a moment later, "Nathan's judgment is compromised. I can no longer trust him to lead in matters related to Elliana." He begins it off with that simple statement, "Once I thought he could, but he has grown worse of late. More irrational, more paranoid."
"He deceived us all," Psyber says with finality, "And he refuses to hear criticism for it. I have no one to appeal to, because ostensibly his argument and actions are reasonable, even if they are not in actuality."
"I have decided," Psyber looks to Amalthea finally, "If he cannot be trusted to lead, then someone must disinvolve him."
"I am meeting with the Confederates in two days. I am going to attempt to re-establish cooperation. Nathan will not be involved and does not know the meeting is occurring."
"This will get worse before it gets better. I am going to be committing a righteous treason of sort, collaberating without the knowledge of a Union General. I am willing to take responsibility for all who would follow me, and accept punishment for it when the time is finished," He notes, looking to Amalthea.
"You have more to lose than I do. A wife. A child. I will understand if you cannot believe in my cause, regardless of the protection I offer."
- Amalthea (395) has posed:
There it is. And now, a turn of her head and the unicorn is staring dead on at the man, that piercing eye as deep as very sea they had both been looking to a moment before. "I've got one eye, but I can see with it well enough, Psyber." She points out. "Nathan grows worse with every new development, he's too driven by his vendetta and his hate. He's wronged us all, but he wrongs you more." She states her opinion very directly.
Doll-jointed fingers drum on the rail before she breaks away from it, arms folding under her chest. "Disinvolve him then? Mmh he won't be happy. Especially when he finds out- though it won't be from me that he does." A shake of her head and shoulders buzz, lifting in a shrug.
"I have much to lose either way from this, but I already told you didn't I?"
"You're not alone. My path is committed."
- Psyber (253) has posed:
"He will not be happy, this is correct," Psyber says, staring at her, "But if this all works the way I want it to, I will take the brunt of the blame when it is all done. You and anyone else who follows my plan will simply have been coerced by me."
Psyber turns away and looks towards the water once more, "I have only trusted one other with this plan: Himei Shoutan. You two were the only two I felt could understand. On paper, Nathan looks right and I look wrong. But I know it's not the case." He notes, sighing.
He takes a deep breath, "In the end, if we can prove him definitively wrong, it will likely destroy him. He has built everything around this hatred. But, if we can remove it, he might be able to finally heal."
A final note is added to her agreement, "My motives are selfish in my own way, and I know I am his opposite in many ways on this matter. I will not deceive you that this plays directly into my favoritism towards Fairchild." He looks down at the ground, "I felt it worth noting that at the end."
- Amalthea (395) has posed:
"I think we're looking at a very different sheet, Psyber. What memo did you get?" Amalthea once again is very blunt with her opinion. But then comes the sigh, one hand lifting to rub at her brow around the base of her horn. Though she does pause to peer rather intently after a moment.
"Himei is a good choice." she agrees at length. "Always had a good head on her shoulders."
Reaching up, she sets her hand on the half-angel's shoulder in a light squeeze. "He needs to let it go. It'll destroy him if he DOESN'T. Proving him wrong will hurt him. Deeply. Probably for a long time, but wounds always heal. Faster for humans than to an immortal."
"You would know."
With that, she releases. "When are the motives of man not selfish? Even when altruistic? I'll see you on Friday."
- Psyber (253) has posed:
"Perhaps. Not all will see me as right," Psyber admits, thinking it over for a few moments.
The hand on his shoulder is looked at for a long few moments, "Beyond us three, I will likely play it by ear. Every new person increases the risk of getting caught," He looks down and away from the hand right after this.
"I can only hope that as he heals, it will mend us all by the process. You, me, Pegasus. His friends coming together to help him." He takes a slow moment, "I think that is where it all comes back."
When she releases his shoulder, "Thank you for hearing me out. I will hope that on Friday we can make some progress."
