Synopsis:	In the first round, the Princess Evangeline of Terca Imperia(Chrysanthemum's NPC) faces off with the daughter of Athena, Alexandra Knox, in a spear-vs-spear showdown!

Someone is here eating popcorn and candy, with a JUMBO SIZE drink. That being... Chrysanthemum. She's in the stands, and she's yelling, "GOOD LUCK, PRINCESS!!" Because Chrys isn't fighting in this tournament, it's her subordinate who is doing so.

PRINCESS EVANGELINE is here, stepping into the ring. Even if it's square. Whatever. She has an elegant look about her, but the 'dress' she wears is utilitarian too, with hardened leather covering the vitals and the like. It's both meant to look good and be armor, apparently. The princess gives a sweeping bow to her audience and to her opponent, then twirls her spear to set the butt end on the ground. "A pleasure to meet you. Let's make this entertaining, won't we?"

On the other side of the ring, wearing jeans and a bronze breastplaye, is ALEXANDRA KNOX. Lex bows to the audience and her opponent the moment Evangeline does, then places the butt end of her spear on the ground as well. While the nine foot piece of bronze is sharp on both sides, the front end is a proper spear-tip, the butt-end a simple spike. "Sure, why not. May the best warrior win."

Kotone Yamakawa seems to be enjoying this gig from the look on her face as she takes in the match as it's starting. "Good evening, ladies, gentlemen and all self-aware beings of all ages! Welcome to the world martial art's tournament. To day we have Princess Evangeline from the world of Terca vs Alexandra Knox of Earth This is going to be quite the fight today as we have the Princess vs the warrior! Let's see how hot these two lovely ladies can make Papaya Island today!"

Introductions over, Evangeline readies her own spear with a tuck of the haft against her side and back, angling it for attack. The tip is gleaming and apparently sharp, which is worrying given the nonlethal nature of the tournament. This doesn't seem like it can be nonlethal. Maybe she'll use the butt end?

This proves to be the case. As soon as Kotone finishes introductions, Evangeline is bolting forward in a leap that's much faster than a human should be able to. This is, after all, a tournament of Elites. The butt end of her spear is brought around for a quick jab Alexandra, testing her defenses.

Alexandra Knox (275) has posed:
Lex hasn't even moved yet when the spear hits her full on, bruising her face. She reacts immediately, turning her spear with only her right hand, trying to strike Evangeline on the skill with the weapon's bronze haft, simultaneously jumping back. She turns her spear, trying to place the very sharp tip in between the princess and herself, and making every effort to keep it there.

Kotone Yamakawa says "I'm Kotone Yamakawa and this fight has just got started! Our fighters have come out swinging. Their wepaons might be out moded on my world but if my limited time in the multiverse has taught me anything is? You can't discount anyone out here and there they go the Princess scoire a hit on her opening gambit but this isn't the end this fight's just getting started!"

The swing hits solidly, connecting hard enough to stagger Evangeline and make her stumble for a moment. This gives Lex the time she needs to ready that defensive stance. Evangline doesn't seem too put out by this, skidding back and bracing again to bring her own weapon in line for a brief, considering face-off with the other spear-wielder.

The stalemate doesn't last long. Eva doesn't waste time before pressing the attack, the welt on her face only just starting to show before she's dipping her speartip and jamming it into the ground, using it to launch herself up and around in an impossible midair twist, seeking a quick stomping strike toward the halfblood's shoulder. For the time being, Lex's stance has kept Evangeline from really hitting with anything hard.

Alexandra Knox (275) has posed:
Stomped upon her shoulder indeed, Lex winces as the shock of that kick goes through her armor, doubtlessly the beginning of a bruise is hidden by those bronze plates. She doesn't waste the opportunity given to her, she uses her left hand to make a grab for the ankle on her other shoulder, trying to swing Evangeline like a club, attacking the ground.

Kotone Yamakawa says "and the Princess isn't even letting up her, she's trying to feel out Alexandra's looking for a weak point to strike! It looks like she' keeping the presson on Alexandra! She's not having very much luck getting past the Princess unrelenting assault!"

The grab connects successfully! Eva gasps shortly as Lex snatches her ankle and just /hurls/ her toward the ground, but she collects herself in time to twist and throw out an arm, bending at the elbow to absorb most of the shock. It rattles her, bruises her probably, but it isn't the spine-shattering impact that Lex may have hoped for. It certainly makes her wheeze in pain.

Twisting around to roll with the impact, Evangeline doesn't let up. It's mid-combat, and she aims a short kick at the hand holding her to try to get it to loosen. The REAL attack is in the sweep of her spear though, which emits a flaming blaze of crescent-shaped fire toward Alexandra.

The curious thing is that while it may hurt and damage, it doesn't seem capable of causing permanent harm.

It may not be Fried Demigoddess, but it's starting to look like it. Lex is burned all over after letting go of Evangeline, she grimaces but doesn't wait. She presses on, using the business end of her spear, trying to pierce right through the princess's foot. She immediately pulls her spear back, running sideways without taking her eyes off Eva, turning her spear to grab it with both hands, like a staff instead of a spear.

Kotone Yamakawa says "The Princess contiunes her asault htere seems to be no end in sight, but what's this Alexandra is getting her rear in gear and counter attacking hard! Looks like she's got to the point of the matter now!"

The lance doesn't go through Evangeline's foot, but it does something just as bad, scoring right along her lower leg and opening up a deep gash. Eva flinches at the point grinding against bone, but her pain tolerance must be much higher than most, as she stumbles back and shifts her weight to remain on one leg. This lets Lex maneuver as she wishes, as it keeps Eva from having to move at all... at first.

The kick from her good leg carries Evangeline high in the air, twisting into a flip that then kicks off of empty air again. It's meant to close the distance, not be a charge, bringing her in close enough for a swift and vicious stab toward Alexandra's midriff. If it does connect, she might notice that the cold steel somehow doesn't hit anything vital.

Lex doesn't manage to quite dodge the attack, but by quickly dropping down a bit, the spearpoint scrapes past the lower edge of her armor, taking some of the sting out of the strike. Lex smiles despite her pain, she's starting to get into the swing of the fight, and with a step back and a step forward in quick succession reaches out to stab deep, somewhere in Evangeline's intestines. That CAN kill someone, but it's slow enough that it shouldn't if a doctor sees it on time.

Kotone Yamakawa says "Things are heating up the Princess keeps up her attackl but Alexandr has shown she has bite to her a well they are mixing it up now and oh my she's going for the gut shot!"

It's not a solid hit, which is good. It would still be enough to gut a normal human, however. Evangeline has a few tricks up her sleeve, it would seem, as the blade of the spear impacts the leather of her dress's midriff... and though the leather gives and tears, it feels like hitting solid steel. The blade should have pierced her intestines, and instead it's blunted to slashing across her middle, causing a blood splatter(which, curiously, does not stain her clothes at all) and a flinch of pain from the princess. "Well, since we can both go all out," she murmurs...

Whipping her own spear around, she ducks to the side. She'd normally be far more elegant, but the injuries she already has makes this hard. Doesn't matter, because the spear she holds bursts forward with an explosive blaze, wreathed in fire as it stabs toward vitals. Again, though, it seems incapable of causing permanent damage at all.

It still hurts a lot of it gets a solid hit, though.

Lex's vitals are protected by armor. Metal armor. On the upside, this blocks the physical aspect of the stab. On the downside, it makes the heat of the flame more effective. Lex makes a sound that's clearly one induced by pain, forced back. Despite the obvious pain she's in, she's not giving herself a breather, she doesn't want to give Evangeline even more room to press on. She runs sideways, increasing the distance between her and Eva, before charging forward, holding her spear above her head with both hands, stabbing downwards, hitting the ground and using it as a pole, vaulting past Eva. She then uses the spike on the butt of her spear to actually attack, trying to drive it in between Eva's neck and shoulder-blade.

Kotone Yamakawa says "The heat is turning up they don't seem to be holding anything back as thise to battle vixins are going at it now there's nothing seemingly being held back at this point! They are not giving eachother a momenty to even breath!

Battle Vixens? Really? Evangeline huffs at that, but her focus is on the battle. Not quite enough focus, it would seem, as her early success didn't prepare her for such a bold move from her opponent. She's already turning around, but the thrust impacts on her shoulder and the hit is definitely solid. It outright staggers the princess, forcing her nearly to one knee with a short, gasping breath.

Evangeline doesn't want to waste her opportunity here though. Even with that sudden injury, all it means is she can't fully use her spear. She can still do the kickoff from the stone floor and launch toward her opponent... but the blade this time appears to be off center. A feint, followed up by a sudden twist and an impossible 'slash' with the blade downward, across Lex's front.

Apparently, Lex saw through the feint, she takes the attack on her spear, the sound of metal on metal ringing through the air. She doesn't wait to abuse her opportunity, pushing back and going forward, trying to shove Eva to the ground so she can use the spike on the butt of her spear, this time she's aiming for Eva's hip, on the side of Eva's unwounded leg. Whether she hits or misses, she quickly moves to a more defensive position.

Kotone Yamakawa is having fun with her adjectives at this point there's no insult intended on her part. "They are still going at it but it looks like they are now getting an idea of how the others fight this might be truing into a battle of wits as much as it's a battle of martial skill! It's a heck of a fight, I'd not want to fight either one of them myself!"

Evangeline looks startled as her feint is caught, but quickly recovers. Not quickly enough to prevent herself from stumbling back under the god-blooded's attack, letting out a short grunt as the aim goes right for her hip. She doesn't like showing off how much stronger she is than a normal human, but she's forced to here, snatching the haft of the spear in mid-thrust to slow down the point. It doesn't quite stop it, though, crumpling that steel-leather armor a bit and causing a faint spread of blood again. It isn't the disabling hit Lex might have hoped for, though.

She wasn't good enough to keep hold of the haft though. It was more of a slowing block than a true catch or parry. Lunging forward, Evangeline presses the attack with a series of quick thrusts, trying to keep Lex off balance and score a hit or three before the divine opponent can resume her defensive stance.

Alexandra Knox (275) has posed:
Lex nearly dodges the first of those on sheer luck more than anything, and the second hits her right on. She manages to jump back, making the last two attacks hit less deep than they otherwise would have. She responds in kind, first lashing out with the tip of her spear, using it to cut rather than stab. Next she closes in with an actual stab, before pulling her weapon back to smack Evangeline with the haft, closing in further, she finishes up her attempted mixups with a kick to sternum.

Kotone Yamakawa says "The pace is picking upw now as the blows are coming in rapidly some people might have tpo wait for the replay to see all the drtails of these hits. The Princess keeps up her assault uponthe warrio but she's striking back just about as hard."

Chrysanthemum (101) has posed:
The slash grazes along Evangeline's arm... 'graze' in the sense that it slices a long furrow along the arm, cutting it open. This leaves her open for the stab to dig into her side, the princess letting out a grunt and hiss of pain... but she isn't as incapacitated as hoped, despite the deep stab through her armored dress. She manages to barely parry the haft, and rolls with the kick enough to sway back and minimize the impact, even if it's going to jar her breath and leave a bruise. "Buh!"

Evangeline's counter is swift, though. She lets herself tumble back, but the swift thrust is trying to take advantage of the kick leaving an opening. IF it has left an opening. She's kind of hoping the unexpected angle will help there. It's not a blazing strike this time, purely steel point that somehow isn't doing permanent damage despite gouging flesh.

The spear goes through Lex's lower back, a graze in the technical sense but it's pretty deep. It adds more blood to the already bloody ground, quite a bit of it. Lex is getting closer to fainting from blood loss and assorted injury, but she isn't out yet. She turns around quickly, her movements are simple enough, but she tries to use Eva's speed to help drive a spear through Eva's chest. At least Lex isn't aiming for the heart, only for a lung.

Kotone Yamakawa grips the edge of her desc as she watches how intense the fight is getting. "They keep at it like a pair od machine not resting not relenting but the wuestion is who is going to give out first?! That's the big question that's on a lot of people's minds right now as the ground becomes slick with more blood from the warriors!"

Lex aims for a lung... and hits it. Evangeline is just rolling to her feet, and it's at that precise moment the attack comes, slipping under her guard to penetrate the armored dress and pierce her torso at her left side, right through some ribs. "HRK!" The blood that comes pouring out is bright red, and her eyes widen at the intense pain. She is not one of the ones Chrysanthemum has gifted with limited immortality, so this is really bothering her right now!

it also forces Evangeline to drive her spear down, causing a sudden explosion of flame and force to blast at the base of the arena... and engulfing Lex, if she can.

Burned again, the tournament's healing staff better gets the burn treatments ready, because Lex's wounds just got cauterized. The upside is that it keeps her standing for just a bit longer, she's no longer losing blood. The downside is that these burns hurt, Lex is blistering all over. She tries to finish it all up, running towards Evangeline with her spear held like she did to polevault before, but this time she's trying to use Eva's shoulder as the landing spot instead of the ground, and if she gets that done, she will attempt to swing to the side, probably driving that spear even deeper. through the already damaged lung and down into Evangeline's guts.

Kotone Yamakawa nearly falls out of her chair at what she's seen. "the Princess is laying into Alexandra but what's this! Alexandra should be out but she's not going down she's counter attacking and oh dear god what a hit here! This is now any one's fight! I can't tell whose going to win at this point!"

The impact from Alexandra slams the spear deeper into Evangeline, resulting in a brief and rather disturbing wet *shluck* from the piercing blade burying deeply into her flesh. The point actually comes out the other side, blood pooling at her back, and Evangeline's cough rattles deeply and roughly. "HRK!" She's going pale already, and it's pretty obvious she doesn't have much consciousness left.

What she does have is plenty of magical power left, though. With a raspy, quivering voice, she lifts her own spear unsteadily and declares, "D-Dragon's... Roar... Cascade..."

A swirling flame engulfs the entire spear, turning into pure fire, which then twists and writhes into a draconic shape of flaming magic, roaring down toward Alexandra in an attempt to 'eat' her whole!

Lex only gets partially burned by that dragon, she manages to evade getting covered completely by rolling out of the way, but it's not enough. At the end of the roll, she lies on the ground, she coughs, she tries to push herself up, then she falls back down. "I'm out." She barely manages to say, conscious but not in any shape to fight.

Kotone Yamakawa Says "It's down to the wire here, I think the next one who takes a good hit is going go go down! Princess Evangeline is making a last ditch effort and putting everything into it and Alexandra goes down conceding the fight! That's it everyone Princess Evangeline has just squeaked out a victory over Alexandra Knox!"

Sarah (316) has posed:
As soon as one of the two combatants announces a yield, the water mage and designated medic (who had been in the stands all this time, and may or may not have been sharing a big bucket of popcorn with Serori, we won't say for sure) stands from her seat and grips the greatstaff she'd had leaned by her side.

And she simply disappears.

The pale woman reappearson the stadium floor, not too far away from where Alexandra Knox has fallen. Efficient, brisk strides take her over to the fallen girl, skirts swirling about her ankles; depending on where she's looking, Lex might get a detailed view of the pale woman's doeskin boots. They stop not far from Lex, and fabric whispers as she crouches down, skirts pooling around her, staff held across her lap.

Sarah chants in some soft, strange tone; words eerie, and obviously magic. But oddly, the Multiverse does not translate this spoken language -- Sindar, the ancient language of a dead race.

For the magically sensitive, it's like staring into the world's biggest flood lamp ever.

Perhaps Lex might notice the lessening of her weariness, and the easing of her hurts. Nothing major, but enough that she can make it to the medical facilities under her own power, though Sarah's brow seems to pale a little further at the effort. "Go slowly," she cautions. "I will see to the rest of your hurts shortly, after I have tended Miss Evangeline."

And then she rises to her feet, striding over to Evangeline as well, murmuring as she kneels. "Well-fought, even if you are with the Confederacy. Please try not to move; I will ease your hurts, and comfort your weariness as best as I am able." Provided Evangeline doesn't argue, Sarah invokes the True Water Rune again; as before, just enough to help her to her feet.

From there, she'll help them to the proper facilities, and tend to them for however long they'll need it to get them back up and fighting-ready. Or at least, you know, not bleeding all over the place or anything.

Chrysanthemum (101) has posed:
Evengeline wobbles a little as Lex collapses, and waits for the victor to be declared before murmuring, "An... excellent match." Then she falls backward to be... caught by Chrysanthemum.

Chrys doesn't stop Sarah from patching up the Princess, though. "Hmm. Closer than I expected." She does not say who she expected to win.

Lex slowly makes her way out of the arena and towards the medical facilities, she's left her spear inside Evangeline on that last attack, so as she walks off, she makes sure to say one more thing. "After you remove my spear from the winner, can you give it back to me?"
