Synopsis: | Rhapsody and Ryu seek out rumors about gargoyles in a newly unified Manhattan |
Cast of Characters: | 325, 636, 684 |
- Brooklyn (684) has posed:
The city of New York is always full of activity at all times of the day. Manhattan is no exception to that. It is rapidly approaching dusk in the Big Apple, and most folks are heading about on their usual evening excusions. Snow has been falling, and a layer of it coats the sidewalks and the buildings.
It's only going to get colder as night sets in, so a lot of people are trying to get off of the streets and into their nice warm condos and apartments.
- Rhapsody (325) has posed:
The cold never really seemed to bother Rhapsody. Despite the fact that somewhere under those whitened scales she was actually a red dragon, it always struck her kin as strange that she could stand the cold. Tonight was no exception, however, she did have her longer coat on, hood up, tail curled around her midsection, as she walked down the city streets. Even her boots weren't showing her claws tonight. She was being mindful of a very new world and making sure she didn't set off any worries to the people that belonged in it. Gargoyles, the news said. That was a new one..
- Ryu (636) has posed:
Ryan was walking near Rhapsody. His hair was blue, which was weird, but he wasn't THAT weird on a modern Earth. He didn't bring his weapons today, though, because he didn't want to cause an uproar if the local laws were a little strict on that matter. His boots thump against the ground as he follows the Guildmaster's path, looking around. The city environment seems to be something he's pretty comfortable with, his gait and posture relaxed and the soft smile on his face seeming more natural.
- Brooklyn (684) has posed:
As the sun finally set over the horizon, the city plunged into darkness. There's lots of street lights and store lighting, so it's not dark, but up above the streets on the side of one of the buildings, one of the snow covered statues begins to crack, before the stone bursts off of it, leaving Brooklyn to roar into the cold night.
Almost instantly he shakes his head to get some excess snow off of himself, and shivers, "Cold night tonight." He mutters to himself. Taking a few moments to glance back towards the clocktower...He had told the others that he would be gone a couple of days. Following up on rumors, he knew he might not make it back to the tower. He also knew they'd come looking for him if he didn't check in. Thankfully this isn't the mid-90s. Reaching into one of his pockets, he pulls out a small device, and very carefully taps something into it with a claw. There, done checking in. Tucking the phone away, he moves to the edge of the building to peer out to the streets below.
The streets below that contain Ryu and Rhapsody and three men dressed in leather jackets and carrying what look to be improvised melee weapons, "Hey." One of them says, as he blocks their path, "You two look like you're new in town. There's, eh...A tourist tax." The second one maneuvers around behind and to the left of Ryu, "Yeah, tourist tax. Makes sure folks like you stay safe in this neighborhood, know what I'm sayin'?"
- Rhapsody (325) has posed:
Well isn't this just like NYC? Go out at night, go down the wrong street, and a wonderful welcoming comitee shows up to make sure you pay your taxes. "Fellas, I come from a city a lot bigger than this one. Step aside," the guildmaster says, rather instistant, and with a firm tone. She doesn't tug down that hood, at least not yet. "You won't like what you find if you press..."
- Ryu (636) has posed:
Ryan did not seem impressed when a band of mooks surrounded him and the guildmaster. His brows lifted, but it was mostly in surprise, and their intimidation did nothing to that soft smile of his. Their words got him to follow that one around him. And he barks a humorless laugh. "Yeah, okay. Tourists. Sure." He sets his stance, prepared for a fight... but restrains himself because Rhapsody is allowing for the possibility of nonviolence.
Ryan is set up so that he can deflect one of their attacks already, prepared for the fight he feels is inevitable. "Let's just forget about all this, alright? She's right, it's best you all run along."
- Brooklyn (684) has posed:
"Another night, another mugging.." Brooklyn growls faintly as he spots the trio surrounding the two. He jumps off of the roof top, and dives down, opening his wings and swooping around. The gathered group might hear his wings open and fill with air a few moments before the guy behind Ryu is lifted off of his feet and deposited squarely inside of a dumpster in the alleyway that the crooks came out of.
Brooklyn lands next to the dumpster and slams the lid closed, eyes glowing white as he glares at the two remaining muggers, "You boys picked a bad night for this." The two guys look back at Rhapsody and Ryu and then at Brooklyn, "It's a damn monster, get it!" "Get it? You freakin' get it, I'm outta here!" The second guy says, dropping his pipe and taking off running. The first guy is shocked as his buddy runs, but then rushes towards Brooklyn anyway.
The gargoyle doesn't seem impressed, as he reaches over to open the dumpster back up, and sweeps around with his tail to knock the guy off his feet, sending him up into the air, before Brooklyn shoves him down into the dumpster, on top of his friend, and slams the lid closed again.
With them taken care of, he rests his hands on the lid for a few moments, before glancing over his shoulder at Ryu and Rhapsody, "And here's the part where they run." He mutters to himself, expecting the usual thanks he gets.
- Rhapsody (325) has posed:
"Prepare to be surprised,". Truth be told, Rhapsody was about to pull her hood down just to scare the mooks off. When Brooklyn suddenly drops in and cleans up things? Well. That confirms the news story about 'monsters' and gargoyles in this version of New York City. With the pair in the dumpster, the Guildmaster has a look around, slips into the alley way herself, and only then does she tug that hood down. "Usually I'm the one that gets to say that line when I leave home," she says, smiling. "Thanks for the hand."
- Rhapsody (325) has posed:
Then a moment later, realizing the question may come up very shortly, "Dragon. Not gargoyle."
- Ryu (636) has posed:
Ryan is shocked when the hapless baddy is ripped up off the ground and thrown into a dumpster, barely able to keep track of what just happened. The exchange between the gargoyle and the thug that doesn't run away makes his mouth hang open a bit... and then close when the thug is sent into the dumpster with his pal. The soldier-dressed young man lets his soft smile return as he looks at Brooklyn... and it just stays a smile, because something like that doesn't really scare him.
He approaches after Rhapsody does, and says, "Also a dragon," raising one gloved hand, "It varies." His eyes seem pretty dragon-like. "Name's Ryan. Thanks for the help. We could've handled it, but it's good that we didn't have to."
- Brooklyn (684) has posed:
The fact that the two of them haven't already run down the street screaming monster is a good sign. Brooklyn turns to face them when Rhapsody pulls her hood down. He was actually just about to ask, but she clarifies before he can. For a brief moment he almost looks disappointed, but if he is he quickly pushes that feeling away, "So you're both dragons? What are you doing walking around the streets of Manhattan?" He asks, as he looks both of them over, "Also...I always expected dragons to be...Well, you know, bigger." He makes a motion with his hands to indicate that he always thought dragons with be huge, fire breathing lizards.
- Ryu (636) has posed:
Ryan gives a more uncomfortable smile when the gargoyle makes a comment on his expectations of what a dragon should look like. The blue-haired young man gives a big shrug, and replies, "I'm shorter in my dragon form," and he measures it out with one of his hands for a visual comparison, somewhere below his chin.
- Rhapsody (325) has posed:
A laugh, "Oh, I can be, but think about what would happen if a dragon came marching down main street, hmm? Guns and sirens and probably the air force. I'd rather not have to deal with all of that, you know? As for why we are here, a news report made me decide to come have a look into the 'rumors' of Gargoyles here and I was curios.."
- Brooklyn (684) has posed:
"Wow." Brooklyn says as he listens to the two of them talk, "You'd still be taller than Lexington, at least." He says to Ryu, before he looks back at Rhapsody, "What did another internet video pop up?" He asks, "We try to be careful but with cameras everywhere it's hard.."
"But if you're looking for a gargoyle, well...You found one..." He says, as he looks at them, "What do you want with me?" He's a bit untrusting of others, especially if they're seeking him out.
- Rhapsody (325) has posed:
"Its a bit hard to explain but, well," she thinks about how to say it, "Your New York sorta got pulled into a -much- larger world. I could go into a lot of detail, but that's the simple version of it.."
- Ryu (636) has posed:
Ryan looks at Rhapsody, who's the one who answered the question before. "For instance," he goes on, supplementing what she said, "Both of us are from places so far apart that we'd be on different planets." He gestures to himself and then to Rhapsody. "That's how big it is."
- Brooklyn (684) has posed:
"Different planets? Other worlds?" Brooklyn asks, as he peers at the two of them, "I mean...Lexington has talked about that kinda stuff, but I was never sure I believed it.." He says, glancing back and forth a bit, "We should get somewhere that people can't find us...If you two are dragons can you fly?" He asks, as he looks up at the rooftop he had been resting on the day before.
- Rhapsody (325) has posed:
"I can manage it, but um, like I said, I'd rather not cause an incident. Wherever you want to go, though, I can follow."
- Ryu (636) has posed:
"N... no, I'm afraid not," Ryan replies to Brooklyn, shaking his head slowly and frowning somewhat sadly at the Gargoyle. "Flightless."
- Brooklyn (684) has posed:
"I see..Well hang on a sec." He moves up to the building and jumps up onto it, claws digging into the brick as he scales the side for a few moments. He hops over onto the fire escape and kicks the ladder down, "C'mon up." He calls out to them, before he heads the rest of the way up to the rooftop.
