Gadgets
Date of Scene: 04 November 2014
Location: The Citadel - Research Facilities
Synopsis: A few gadgets from The Factory get looked over.
Cast of Characters: 276, 522

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
In this particular part of R&D, the scene resembles an archaeological cataloging scene instead of the usual R&D scene of rough prototypes, wires and components everywhere. This is a basement workspace, adjunct to the vast warehouses containing things that the Feds have worked on over the years. Bins of unsorted stuff, labeled 'From The Factory Outlet' in some kind of warped semblance of humor, are lined up here. The containment field is inactive at the moment, and Kari is driving a anti-grav pallet with three bins of weird stuff her master and her have recovered from The Factory. Well, remote controlling it while perched on top of the handles.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Though normally Gaius would be on his Dreadnought, he does take the time to check in with the Confederate building to see how things are holding up and if any type of supplies may be required that the Garlean Empire could offer.

There is also a slight hidden love for the R&D department, but also a hidden deep pain from it as well. Those dark metal boots walk along the hall with simple ease. The hanging 'bells' from the 'horns' of his helm sway ever so slightly which each step he takes and the voidful eye slots in the helm give no indication of his own eyes, beyond they do catch the reflection of the area at times against the black lens covers when the light hits them just right.

As he moves though, he hears something which gets his attention, before he heads in that direction and then takes notice of Kari Wolf who seems to be moving something to another location. "It has been some time, Kari." Gaius address with ever the calmness in his voice with the slight reverb from his helm.

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
"Hmmm? Oh, good afternoon Legatus! Are you doing alright today?" says the cheery shinki, waving to Gaius as she slows the cart down a bit. The shinki is wearing her normal Howling armor, a much lighter armor than the one she's been seen using in battles recently, using its wifi capability to direct the modified cart.
"Master is out at the Factory looking for new things. She's trying to figure out why the robots there build the things they do." She gestures at the bins. "I heard the intern with a tinfoil hat say something about secret Custodian transmissions directing the robots to build things from places that haven't unified yet." She says with a grin.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius walks up next to the cart and looks at what it is carrying for a moment, before turning to look to Kari once more. "I see and to build things that have yet to unify, hmm? Curious theory, but all very possible." He nods in a mild agreement.

"As for myself, I am well. Just doing a little check in since I have returned from the Garlean War Council meeting." He then follows along to Kari continues to move onward. "Making sure that resources are doing well for the Confederacy and if there is anything that may be required that the Garlean Empire could offer."

"Normal operations really." The Legatus says with a mild cant of his head and a shrug of his shoulders. "Though I am glad to see your master is making use of the factory whilst we still have command over it. I am deeply surprise, in all truth, that the Union had not come to reclaim it."

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
The bins seem to have been somewhat cataloged or sorted already. Gauntlets and footwear for a variety of species in one, tube-shaped objects with various ornamental designs in another (resembling a bunch of weapon handles), and a whole assortment of what look like... marbles. The bin with marbles in it is protected by a forcefield and the marbles themselves are suspended in a gravity field. All sorts of warning labels have been slapped on that bin as well.
Kari hmmms. "Well, it's only a matter of time, right? Or maybe they just decided it was all junk? Er, you want to walk along? I have to get these marble things to containment."

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
"I'll follow along, so do not concern yourself of it." Gaius states as he gestures with his hand for her to continue along. "If the Union has such an attitude toward a marvelous resource, then they are greater fools then I suspected they to be. Yet in the same vain, I dare not wish to think little of an enemy, as any of them could surpass another."

Gaius tilts his head ever so faintly in thought. "Only a shame that for such of their size, they seem to be less organized then those of the Confederates.. and perhaps also equally less interested in what happens around them.. which does not speak ever so highly about those whom I did have a chance to meet in a spare moment."

"..Though I do wonder whatever happened to that boy.."

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
"Maybe the Union is like people on a sitcom show. They don't always get along and there's misunderstandings and stuff but they end up helping each other in the end." Why is this shinki in the Confederacy? She seems... cheerful and upbeat.
"Master says the marbles are very dangerous. Explosions of glass if they're knocked around. Something about crystals, she said?" Kari explains as she turns the corner with the cart and takes it towards hazardous materials storage.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius tilts his head, though when she goes into the containment area, the Black Wolf steps behind Kari's cart just to make sure she has enough room to get in there. "Sitcom?" Yes-- Garleans don't have Sitcoms. They have TV.. but not sitcoms. Silly people. "And I see.. explosive glass can be indeed dangerous.. though do you know what she meant about the crystals?"

Though Gaius doesn't question /why/ Kari is here, if anything being around the Confederacy these few months has taught him, it is that there are many types within it. After all, beyond his own general type air, when he isn't on the battlefield, he can be a very pleasant individual.

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
"Oh, something about rubber bands, tension, things pulling even though they're solid. I don't get it, really." Kari stops the cart, and a drone flickers into existance in a burst of light, zooming over to push the buttons that Kari needs to push. The hazmat thing pulls the indicated bin off the cart and it disappears into... wherever it goes.
"Hop on!" She says cheerily to Gaius.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius watches the drones work with some mild interest, before Kari offers to hop on. With a minor shrug, he does so-- cause what could it hurt, right? Though he does take into what she says about rubber bands and tensions. "Sounds as if she was speaking about Kinetic force." The Legatus says calmly.

"I once had a very dear friend to me whom was an engineer of sorts.. needless to say, when you been about the types. You learn the lingo." The Black Wolf then looks down at his hand for a moment, before he looks to Kari. "Does your own master attempt to instruct you on her research?"

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
"Sometimes, but I don't get a lot of what she's saying, even when she tries explaining it so I can understand it. I'm just not wired that way, I guess." She pulls the cart into the work area, parking it. "One bin of foot and hand wear, one bin of plasma cutting blades! Check." She peers into the bin of weapon handles. "That's a lot of things that can cut."

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius mostly stays out of the way as Kari does her work. "You should try to learn, even if you are not, hm.. wired.. that way. You seem like your quiet capable of working beyond your own programming. If you so wished it."

The Legatus then tilts his head to that comment of 'that is lot of things that can cut' and hms softly. "Bladed tools and weapons tend to have a great deal of use, no matter the technological state of a world..."

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
Kari smiles and picks one of the things up, a decorated cylinder about as long as she is tall. She carries it over to the containment unit and activates it by pushing a switch on it, a crimson-hued blade of light emerging from it, about three feet in length. The shinki swishes the blade around, wooshing sounds and a heat haze trailing after the weapon. The brightness of the blade leaves dark after-images on the eyes.
"I should ask Master if she can make one for me!"

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius watches as the shinki swooshes around the plasma blade of some kind. His internal sensors within the helm of his giving him all sorts of warnings about that thing. Though he only simply crosses his arms over his chest. "Kari. Though I hate to be the one whom ruins the fun, but I believe items that are to be placed away in such areas should be.. untouched.. unless by hands for study."

Gaius tilts his head over to the side. "After all, none desire to be injured and playing with things with no knowledge can leave to possible unfortunate accidents. Trust me, I have watched a few researchers not take such wisdom to mind when they were toying with Allagan artifacts and found themselves in a very poor situation of near death."

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
Kari turns the thing off, since she doesn't want to injure herself and the big thing (relative to her) is unwieldy in her paws.
"The metal ones are even weirder. They're like this, but they have a watery metal blade." she says, putting the light saber back. "I saw some of the army guys trying to work with one and they bruised themselves pretty badly. They were getting thrown all over the place. Master said it was because the weight kept shifting around when they swung them."

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius mm's softly to Kari's explanation of the weapons. "I see." He tilts his head another way in thought. "Blades are sometimes weighted in order to aid with a proper balance within the blade. If a weapon does throw of that weight, the wielder must make adjustments for it-- which takes a great deal of practice."

Gaius goes to stand up fully and removes his sword. He shows her his own Gunblade, "For example, my own sword is that of a Gunblade. It is designed for both purposes of a melee and ranged weapon. As such, the weight of the sword is thrown off normally by the barrel of the gun.. however.."

Gaius then turns it side ways, he places out his other hand and then moving his index finger to the center of the blade, he lets go of the handle and balances it on his index finger for a moment before taking hold of the hilt once more. "It has a weight within the steel to aid in keep the blade itself balanced against the extra weight of the hilt."

"Also mind you that the way we process our steel and materials we use are designed to be extreme durable, but light-- so the sword is also extreme deceptive in how heavy it feels."

Kari Wolf (276) has posed:
The shinki watches as Gaius demonstrates. "But that's so you can use it, right? The weight doesn't move when you swing? Master said something about a shifting center of gravity making the blade hit much harder, more like a hammer than a sword. I saw one guy cut most of the way through a six-inch steel plate with one of the big liquid-metal swords!"
Kari thinks. "Of course he was like three meters tall and looked like he wrestled bulls for a morning workout..."

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
"That would be correct, the sword is weighted for myself. Though for another they may find it a bit off." The Legatus then places the sword away. "For a weapon that shifts it weight, the wielder has to adjust themselves to that weight being moved. It means the foot work down and the movement of the body has to act as a counter measure to the direction that the weapon travels in."

Gaius does try to demonstrate this with his hands. "We have a few within our own military ranks that play with such weapons that do not have a true center of gravity. I have never been overly fond of them, but I have seen such in use."
