Synopsis:	Winry Rockbell is invited to the Batcave by Terry to help work on the Batsuit after the Phase Rock attack and meets the elderly Bruce Wayne.

A few minutes after Terry extended his invitation, Winry arrives - on foot, at least here. You might have heard an engine in the direction of the nearest road, depending on how far that is … "Good evening, again," the blonde mechanic says, waving as she spots you. "Thanks for letting me out to take a look at your secret …" A slightly mischievous grin flits across her face, but she seems to be serious about helping if she can. Or at least learning.

Terry McGinnis nods, "Hi," he says as his voice is different from what he sounds like as Batman. "Not a problem,” he says as he looks. "Let’s get inside, before any Jokerz arrive and decide to have some fun," he says as he walks for a cave and enters the cave. As he walks, he looks over his shoulder and he does not have a light, and it is dark in here. "Watch your step," he states as he walks slow enough for Winry to follow. "And if you are wondering, we have about a quarter mile walk to go," and after Winry enters the cave, the way in closes off quickly and quietly. Up in the distance, there is a small light of blue, which is eerie looking.

Winry Rockbell grimaces, "Should I go get my motorcycle off the road? I should have asked whether there were any risks like that …" Guess someone hasn't spent a lot of time in Gotham. If the answer is 'yes,' she runs back to retrieve it, carefully picking her way back through the trees and then following you into the cave, rolling the motorcycle along - fairly easily, it looks like, in spite of its size. (If not, she just follows along.)

Terry McGinnis looks and nods, "That would be a good idea. You can park it in the cave." he says as he turns to watch her leave and than return with it. "Most people hardly come out this way, but those who do will take what they find. If it is the Jokerz, they will steal it and use to in their games of mayhem. And if you are able to get it back, it is not worth the effort to fix," he adds.

Winry *looks* at you at that last bit. "I built the Paladin myself - four versions of it, improving on the design each time. And I know exactly how to destroy or disable it, if it's ever in unfriendly hands, even if the thief figured out all of the defensive measures I've worked into the design."

Terry McGinnis nods, "Most of those in the Jokerz are drop outs form high school. Some are even very smart to do computer hacking to theft of stock and money from banks." and he looks at something as he walks and the dark cave opens up into a wide cavern that is filled with a lot of things. The cave's centerpiece is a supercomputer whose specs are on par with any of those used by leading national security agencies; it permits global surveillance and also connects to a massive information network as well as storing vast amounts of information, both on Batman's foes and his allies. A series of satellite link-ups allows easy access to Batman's information network anywhere in the globe.

Additionally, the cave contains state of the art facilities such as: crime lab, various specialized laboratories, mechanized workshops, personal gymnasium, a vast library, parking, docking and hangar space (as appropriate) for his various vehicles as well as separate exits for the various types, trophies of past cases, a large bat colony, and a Justice League teleporter. It also has medical facilities as well as various areas used in training exercises for Batman and his allies. The cave houses Batman's vast array of specialized vehicles, foremost being the famous Batmobile in all its incarnations (mostly for nostalgia as well as for contingencies, as all are serviceable and in excellent working condition).

The Batcave stores various memorabilia items, such as a defunct full-size mechanical Tyrannosaurus Rex, an equally large U.S. penny and a Joker playing card. In addition to Two-Face's original coin, Deathstroke's sword (of whom he has fought with at least twice), the shroud of the Vampiric Monk, and over-sized ten-pins. Moreover, it includes not only replicas of Batman's most famous enemies (both as wax dummies and robot combat trainers), but also a display case with the many permutations of costumes of Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Batman himself. Other items which have been shown to be in the Cave include the Freeze Gun of Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn's costume, the puppet Scarface, and a 'shrine' to Bruce Wayne's childhood TV hero, the Gray Ghost.

Terry walks up some steps, to a table near the computer that is online, and hooked right into the Union Computer as well as other systems and satellites out in the Multiverse. Lastly, there are a set of steps carved into the wall heading up to an archway that is dark. On the table is the batsuit that is cut and ripped in various places.

Winry frowns a bit at your capsule description of the Jokerz. "Well, if I run into any of them, I'll clobber them as best I can. They're just human, right?"

She stops talking, though, as she enters the Batcave, untying her coverall sleeves so she can pull the top half of her coveralls on properly, zipping up the front for a combination of warmth and respect. This is clearly not just any old heroic refuge … this place has *history*. And at some point, Winry might get the chance to indulge her curiosity.

Terry McGinnis looks at Winry, "A lot of this is not my collection," he states. "But it is the previous Batman's. Every villain he has ever fought to all of those who were his partners. Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and not to mention The Justice League. All of this is what is used to fight crime in Gotham. Even though most of this is over 50 years old, it is still state of the art."

Winry Rockbell nods, looking around the cave some more. "So there was a Batman before you, huh … is he still alive? Would he be angry if an 'outsider' was let in on the secret identity?" She looks like she's about to ask something else … then pauses, looking a bit worried. "… probably best if I just help you with the suit repairs and then be on my way."

Terry McGinnis looks, "He is still alive," he states. "At a meeting right now," and he looks and shrugs, "He'll get over it, although his bark is worst than his bite," he says to her as he picks up a tool, and hooks it up to the batsuit's back. The monitor activates that is on the table and goes through a diagnostic program, and shows what is wrong. "This suit is eighteen years old. Yet it is still state of the art today, well in 2040, where I am from. So it was made in 2022, when he was 40 or 50. So he is not in his 60s and he can move like he is still 40 at times," he states. "He has trained me for the past two years, both physically and mentally." and the one thing that is probably noticeable is something that was sent to him by Julian, which holds the Cybertronian virus.

Winry Rockbell raises her eyebrows, looking over the suit, then the diagnostic monitor. "Still way ahead of what we have where I'm from … heck, automail would probably be 'state of the art' in Amestris. Of course I've studied so much more than that .."

She trails off, her attention drawn into the suit, mostly looking at the Batsuit itself to see if she can find the damaged area(s) unassisted. Her glances at the computer are mostly for the benefit of confirming whether she's right or wrong. The cut is probably not all that hard to find …

The cut of the batsuit is the most damaged areas. It seems that under the outer skin is a set of circuits that cover it from head to toe, and right now, the cowl is off and sitting on a head of a mannequin. The circuits are literally amazing, almost like that of a Cybertronian, but more intertwined. Looking at Winry, Terry speaks, "I took a few hits form Superman in this and walked away with just a few bruises, survived the crashing of the Batmobile and a few dives in Gotham Harbor. The suit is resistant to heat, electricity, water, and vibrations, but only slightly resistant to radiation. Enhances the wears strength by a factor of ten, built in cloaking device and a few other features that are good in a fight." he says. "Mainly, I just need to patch the cuts and tears and check the circuits and than go out when I am not having to use a cane."

Winry huhs quietly. "Pretty good armor … *way* beyond me, too. I know about strength-enhancement servos in powered armor, but this is practically *cloth* - how's the strength enhancement implemented? Some kind of micro-myomer fibers embedded in the layers? Or is it in the circuitry itself somehow … ?" She finishes her inspection, and straightens up with a wry grin and a soft chuckle. "Yeah. I don't think I'm going to be fixing this for you any time soon - if it had moving parts to speak of I'd be good to help, but sophisticated electronics like this … uh-uh." She shakes her head, looking bemused. "Way beyond this mechanic. I can splice wires together when I know which wire is which, but that's about it for me and circuitry."

Terry McGinnis smirks, "The suit is pretty far ahead for even me, and thank god that Batman has been showing me how to fix it. Plus the suit will conform to the wearer. If you put it on, it will adjust to your body size, so it is adaptable to different people." and he thinks as a second voice is heard behind them.

"The circuits give the increase in strength to the wearer," says the voice as someone walks out of the shadows and stands there, the elderly Bruce Wayne and you can tell he is still someone you do not want to face, especially since he was once Batman. He looks at the two of them. "Now, may I ask what you are doing here and who you are?" he says to Winry as he walks closer and a guard dog walks in behind Bruce and looks at Winry and says nothing, but moves with Bruce as Bruce sits down in the chair to the Batcomputer, looking at Terry and Winry.

Terry blinks, "Winry Rockbell, Batman. Batman, Winry Rockbell." he says as he works ont he suit.

Winry Rockbell raises her eyebrows a bit. "Good evening, uh, 'Batman,'" she says, sociably if a little hesitantly. "I'm a mechanic with the Union, I offered to come lend a hand with the repairs to the suit. The technology's more complicated than I know how to work on, though … but even if I don't stand a chance of *understanding* how it works, I'm still curious - how do electronic circuits give that kind of strength amplification? What are the moving parts, there's got to be *some*thing which physically applies force with the wearer's movements …"

Elderly Bruce smiles, "It is a powersuit," he says to her. "Has a number of technology from Kryptonian, Thanagarian and Martian technology." and he looks. "I built it to help me as I got older, before Terry got it," he looks at Terry and than back to Winry. "So you are a mechanic," he states to her. "Than I might be able to have you here from time to time, helping Terry with things that he is not able to understand fully."

Terry looks, "I am still learning, but a lot of the stuff here was built before I was born and I am still trying to figure out three-quarters of the equipment here. Fixing a suit is easy, the Batmobile is another story."

Winry Rockbell smiles, shrugging slightly. "Before I arrived in New Washington for the first time, the limit of my skills was prosthetic limbs, called automail … there are some files about it in the Union databanks, if you want to read up on it. But I've learned enough to work on the Union's mecha - giant robots for the most part, some powered armor …"

She trails off, looking over at her motorcycle. Then she grins, "Want to see some of my handiwork in motion?" she offers.

Terry McGinnis looks at her and than to Bruce and he rises and walks over. "You mean your motorcycle?" he says to her. "I saw you push it in and noticed that it was easier to push than most motorcycles of the same size. SO I am to assume it is not the normal type and has a few special features to it? Besides the weaposn that are hidden upon it?" Bruce says as Terry works on the suit.

Winry grins practically ear-to-ear, chuckling proudly as she jogs over to the motorcycle. "Yes in that it's not normal …. but there are no concealed weapons, unless you count its fists." She straddles the motorcycle, releasing the security locks. "And I actually had the engine on minimal power while I was rolling it this way - just enough force to roll forward when pushed, not enough for it to go anywhere on its own. When it's locked down, it applies force the other way, basically pushing the wheels together … it uses some of the energy reserves, but it makes it a lot harder to walk off with."

She finishes powering the 'motorcycle' up, the engine purring even more quietly than probably any car of Terry's era (granted, it's not going anywhere either), and the 'paint job' seems to get even more vivid, apparently almost glowing … then Winry revs the engine, pops a wheelie - and the 'motorcycle' transforms around her, reconfiguring into a humanoid shape about four meters in height, mostly blue with some white markings.

"Meet my Paladin, Mark IV," Winry says from inside the mecha's torso.

Terry McGinnis looks up and blinks, "Seems like the Batarmor you have," he says as he nods his head to the suit that looks like armor in the same style at the Batsuit, only not in the Batman Beyond color. Bruce looks at it, "A motorcycle that turns into a suit of power armor," he says as he walks down and looks at it. "Outside of fusion, what is it power source and what are the capabilities of it," he asks her as Terry knows where the questions are going… For now, he keeps working as he looks up and stops and walks over to the ledge and looks at the suit of armor. "Let me guess, your thinking of getting one right?" he asks Bruce. Bruce just looks at him, "Right, stupid question."

The Paladin stands still as Winry explains, "I didn't use fusion for it, actually. Paladin uses high-efficiency rechargeable fuel cells; I can hook it up to pretty much any adequate source of electrical power for a recharge. As for the capabilities … besides the obvious, it's got phase shift armor and ray shielding, as well as a reasonably full suite of sensors. I built it mostly for defense, though, so I didn't put any weapons on it or make any real allowances for it to use hand-held weapons. It's got the dexterity, though …"

Winry pauses talking, putting Paladin through its paces - actually 'dancing' briefly, spinning around and then doing a pose which would probably be cute if Winry was doing it on her own. "I used what I know about automail, built something like a full-body waldo for inside the cockpit - this was before I got to look at Arm Slaves, mind you - and it can 'read' the movements the operator tries to make inside the cockpit," she explains before Paladin goes back to standing normally. "And yes, there *are* versions of this on the open market - civilian and industrial models. You can't get one with the armor or shields in just any motorcycle store, though …"

Bruce nods and looks as he thinks, "I am going to have to look into this," he states. He looks up at Terry and than to Winry. "I am going to bed," he says to them. Get some rest and be ready to go at a moments notice," he adds as he looks at Winry, "Nice to meet you Winry," he says to her as he moves off and up the stairs.

Terry looks, "You do know I am not at 100 percent right?" he asks. Bruce just looks at him, "Than get to 100 percent." he simply states as he exits through the dark arch and door that is hidden there. Terry just looks, "Sometimes, he is a hard man and a hard driver," he states as he looks and smiles, "Well, the suit is finished," he states to Winry. "So you built that armor?"

Winry Rockbell nods - or rather, the Paladin nods, before Winry reverses the transformation, the mecha returning to motorcycle form. "Yep. Four different versions of it now … it took a while to get the design up to what I needed," she says, privately thinking that she probably identifies with 'Batman Senior' more closely than Terry would want to be conscious of. She can be a helpless workaholic sometimes, and she knows it. Not that she plans to change that - well, not when they really need her working on whatever repairs …

Terry McGinnis looks and nods, "And for the record, he is not too made," he says. "If he was really mad, he would have exploded at me after you left. He went to bed which is odd, even for him," and he looks. "But over all, I think you are safe to visit here again," and he walks down, still using the cane and stops as Ace stays near the computer and gets in the chair. "Comeon, I'll walk you out and than I can get some sleep for a change and rest my leg."

Winry nods again, bringing the Paladin's engine back up to speed and maneuvering it around to face towards the cave's exit. … She thinks the exit is that way, at least. "Don't push yourself if you need to rest and heal up," she says, sounding a little bit like a doctor rather than a mechanic. "And thanks for your help at Phase Rock …"

Terry McGinnis nods, "We are all heroes," he states. "Some more than others and some who just need to understand it," he says as he looks. "Exit is that way," he says as he points more to the right of the way she is pointing. "The exit will open as you get closer to the door." he says to her as he looks. "Be safe, cause there are a number of criminals that are still out and always looking for something new to play with." he adds.

Winry waves, "Thanks. Have a good night … and pity any criminals who try stealing Paladin from me." She's still smirking as she pulls her helmet on and heads in the indicated direction.

Terry McGinnis nods, "I am sure there will be a number of tries," he says as he watches her go and heads up to the batcomputer and activates the security systems once she is gone and goes upstairs to get some rest.
