The hiss of the respirator was loud in Elliana's ears, but her thoughts were elsewhere. She didn't even notice all the details of the Confederate ICU that she'd missed the first time, over a year ago now. Back then, her vision had been blurred by anger, pain, and having been shot in the eye. Now here eyes were clear, her body paralyzed, but her mind was elsewhere. Oh, she would heal... her limits were not human any longer. But weeks of regenerating herself could be done in days, with proper care. She had no reason to lay in a heap on the floor, undignified.
Altair's attempt to kill her did not matter to her. He was a beast, a murderer. The sort of man that she would think nothing of killing herself, should she ever get the time. She didn't even feel anger at it. He was beneath her.
Kirito, the fairy boy... his anger was hot and furious, but optimistic. He was naive. A child. And he'd hesitated... she could admire that, but he was unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Someone to watch, to factor into plans, but not one she need worry about for now.
The others, though. The others...
She closed her eyes. Sakura Haruno had never gotten along with her, she knew that. She had not known how fragile the woman's mind was, how quickly it would snap under pressure. Useful, but... concerning. The fury mingled with confusion that she saw in Sakura's eyes was disconcerting, the questions... sharp. Pointed. Why had she done it? Why had she saved a girl who had tried to kill her?
"She was my friend."
"Friends don't do what you tried to do."
The worst part was... Elliana knew that. Sakura was right. The ritual had /required/ those closest to her. Elliana had chosen her friends, for many reasons. Yet such a thing was a paradox. Is that why it had failed? Is that why the Seal was imperfect?
