Date of Scene: | 27 December 2016 |
Location: | The Tapestry |
Synopsis: | Tomoyo sets up a career day for new factions and groups! Come one and all to learn about where you might fit in the new Multiverse! |
Cast of Characters: | Tomoyo Daidouji, 165, 947 |
- Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
A middling-sized hall has been hired out for a small event. Banners have been set up over the door, simply reading 'MULTIVERSE CAREER DAY!' Invites have been sent to the new factions and smaller organizations to show up and represent themselves. Most have agreed eagerly, judging by the hustle and bustle coming from inside.
Every kind of Elite has shown up to learn more. The mysterious amnesiac waifs have assembled into a small gaggle, comparing brochures and their experiences to find out if their stories are related. Every corner in the place has been occupied by a brooding loaner. Some fights have broken out over the best spots, quickly dealt with by hired Elite help. The coat-racks are outnumbered by sword-racks, groaning under the weight of adventurer equipment.
Tomoyo herself is wandering the floor, dressed in her business attire, checking on each stall to make sure they're not drowning out any others. Even though the factions are here, they are not allowed to have a bigger stall than anyone else.
- Ren Tanaka (165) has posed:
It would be remiss for Ren Tanaka to miss this.
Well, in a way, anyway. It's like if you've been off work for eight months and you say to your career adviser 'well I went to a career day and picked up a bunch of stuff' in order to placate them.
But it's a bit like that, and it's also a bit like genuinely wanting to know what's going on in the world(s). When everything went to crackers, Ren found himself as far away from the epicenter of the chaos as possible (as he will always put it 'playing poker, and losing'), and as a result he's been disconnected from the multiverse's recent upheaval and, barring idle conversation about it, the groups that have sprung up in the wake of it.
It really kind of is like trying to find a new job. Which brings him to wonder, as he passes by someone familiar
"Hang on, do I still work for you? I can't remember."
- Eclipse (947) has posed:
Apparently, word had spread that Eclipse was looking to join some sort of greater group, and a messenger had been dispatched to Eclipse's forest tribe, inviting her to this meeting. After hanging her equipment beside that of the other guests, the shifter surveys the hall, with both her eyes and nose, trying to get an idea of what sort of group might suit her. Printed words aren't much help- since she can't read- but she can at least get a vague idea from symbols what sort of group each one might be. For a better idea, though, she'd have to talk to people, and so she begins to wander the aisles, inspecting each booth's occupants.
- Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo comes to a pause next to a ratty figure who asks her a question. "Technically no, the Boutique has not reopened yet~" she says, before turning and looking up at Ren. "Hello Ren. I knew you wouldn't have died to something like this. How have you been?" She seems well, thankfully. Rested and steady, as usual.
Meanwhile, Eclipse is called to by the factional booths!
From the Paladins, she hears, "You there, miss? Are you interested in protecting the common good and ensuring that everyone is treated justly? We in the Paladins work to enforce the laws of every world!"
The Concord representative says, "Hello there! Do you want to protect what's yours, and exchange mutual aid to add to it? The Concord is a vast partnership. I suppose you could say it's an agreement in which everyone scratches each other's back."
From the League booth, she hears, "You there! Progress is great, wouldn't you agree? Not just in terms of technology, but also the arts, performance and all forms of self-improvement! The League is committed to progress above all else, without petty politics getting in the way!"
One of those brooding corner-people is also watching her, but not approching.
- Ren Tanaka (165) has posed:
"Dead? No, not even close, although I almost lost my shirt in the poker game I was playing at the time." See, I told you he'd mention it. "Tomoyo! I took about a week or so walking back but I'm actually the gracious guest of Syaoran for the time being. I'm just trying to find out where some of my other friends have ended up, didn't see you around town so I followed a paper trail here."
He looks longways at the factional booths. "Since life hasn't changed all that much in that respect for me, I came to see what I needed to know about these new beasts."
Looking around at someone else who seems a little lost as he does so, he makes a 'one moment' gesture to Tomoyo and takes a couple of steps over to the right towards Eclipse.
"Are you alright, there? How are you doing? I'm Ren, pleasant to meet you. Gosh, isn't it busy here, though? Are you here to take stock of these three new parties, or just in the market for a new line of work?"
He has his hands in his pockets, bending like a reed as he stands in place.
- Eclipse (947) has posed:
Eclipse is getting messages from all around, but most of them aren't particularly grabbing her. Still, the Paladins were talking about protection- which was a good place to start. Before she can head over to their booth, however, she's met by a young man who seems to be a visitor. "I am Eclipse," she answers to his introduction. "I'm hoping to find a group, yes. I never joined the Union or Confederacy while they existed; I didn't want to get involved in wars between rulers. But, I always hoped to find a place among allies," she explains. "In my world, I was called to protect my people and the natural world. I wonder if, perhaps," she adds, looking toward the Paladin booth, "the Paladins might be a place for me."
- Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo giggles and shakes her head. "I've been scarce in Tomoeda. Using the winter break to learn the new lay of the worlds. Unfortunately, the quakes damaged the new Boutique structure, so that will take a little longer." Thankfully, she doesn't seem too broken up about it.
As Eclipse wanders over, Tomoyo bows her head. "I am Tomoyo Daidouji, the organizer of this event. I hope you are finding it informative~" Listening to the woman explain what she is looking for, she nods. "The Paladins do offer protection, but only on the condition that you adhere to their rules. You have to follow the laws on every world while you are on them. And if your people join the Commonwealth that funds them, they also have to follow certain rules." The Paladin representative was excited when Eclipse said that, but now they look a bit disheartened.
- Ren Tanaka (165) has posed:
Ren Tanaka nods to Eclipse, shrugs to Tomoyo. 'Eh, what'cha gonna do' type shrug.
To Eclipse: "Reasonable. Do you know, I was actually in the Union, but I never actually..." - as if trying to grasp something insubstantial. "Never really involve myself in any of their... the wider business, if you know what I mean?"
He looks back at Tomoyo, like he's looking for someone to back his statement up, and she introduces herself to Eclipse.
"It was strange, actually. Never really used Njorun except to meet people, never really used the Union's resources, it was all... it was all really just to develop connections with people."
"And, y'know, maybe," he continues, thoughtfully- hand on his chin and everything- "So I had people to read the reports when I wrote 'em."
He never even really used the salary except to buy christmas presents and all of those probably cost under 200 bucks anyway. Legendary bad present-giver.
- Eclipse (947) has posed:
"I see," Eclipse says. "I have generally tried to follow the laws and customs of the lands I've visited, so that will not be a problem. What do the Paladins do with tribes like mine? How well do they guard nature, and allow it to take its course?" Nature, after all, can't really be bound by laws in most cases.
- Ren Tanaka (165) has posed:
"That's a good question, and I'm not actually sure," he replies. "I suppose you can't force laws on something that doesn't have them, so maybe they just overlook that kind of thing. Would be draconian otherwise?"
Ren doesn't actually know. "Laws are a human thing, unless they're divine."
- Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Looking to Ren, Tomoyo nods. "I think a lot of people were the same... honestly, maybe this shake-up will be a good thing. There was a lot of headbutting in the Union, and I think the Confederacy was the same..." She puts a hand to her cheek and looks around. "I just hope everyone found themselves somewhere that they're happy."
Meanwhile, upon hearing that Eclipse does not mind that condition, the Paladin representative smoothly slides over. "We are all for the preservation of nature. Should you join the Paladins, and your tribe the Commonwealth, we will protect you from any invasions, and assist in any way we can. As long as your tribe does not practice things such as slavery and live sacrifice, there should be no problem in becoming a member!"
- Eclipse (947) has posed:
Eclipse listens to the representative. "Yes... there seem to be few problems. Generally, my kind restrict their violence to the hunt, and even that is carried out with respect for the prey's role in the cycle of life," she explains. "Slavery is a terrible thing- that many of my people have been subjected to themselves- and the spirits whose way we follow have no need for sacrifice of that kind."
- Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
The representative beams. "Then it sounds like you would be a perfect fit! There is a bit of paperwork to fill in, but I'm happy to help you sort it all out!" Tomoyo smiles to Eclipse. "I'm glad you found somewhere. I hope it all goes smoothly!"
