Adelle Kaufmann jerks awake in her bed, her sheets soaked with sweat. Another example of the recurring dream she's been suffering from of late. A cold, harsh voice, like nails down a pane of glass, speaking from within bottomless shadow. Never to her, except at the end where she is suddenly noticed and startled awake.
The heel of her hand rubs at her eye as another drifts to her bedside table, where many sheets of anti-nausea medication rest. She pops two, and downs them both with a long drink of lukewarm water before crawling back under her clammy covers.
What's happening to her?...
