Date of Scene: | 23 May 2015 |
Location: | Paragon City <CoH> |
Synopsis: | Trolls get hopped up on superadine and start rampaging! Someone has to put a stop to it! |
Cast of Characters: | Maya, 560, 583, 769 |
- Demetrios Vasilikos (769) has posed:
Skyway City is a tangle of overlapping highways in the sky, with multiple levels, all situated over a more 'ground level' collection of houses, businesses, warehouses, and other buildings below. It's almost always busy with traffic. There are threats from the mutated homeless people known as the Lost, the mysterious scavenging robots called the Clockwork, and the violent streetgang that call themselves 'Trolls'.
The Paragon Police Department radio has made it clear that there is a large congregation of the latter in a parking lot on the lower levels. They're making a huge racket over by some warehouses, and information sources indicate that they've hauled a bunch of uncut Superadyne (a dangerous drug that grants superhuman abilities) into one of the buildings in preparation for one of the Trolls' most dangerous traditions...
Overdosing on the drug and turning into 'Supa Trolls'!
The police are surrounding the area, but they are not equipped for super-powered threats. Heroes are what's needed here!
- Emiya Shirou (560) has posed:
There's been no time to get too familiar with the situation, but Union channels lead people to hear all kinds of things. When Emiya Shirou arrives... well, he might be easily mistaken for some casual nobody. No visible armor, no weapons, no costume... what could he possibly hope to do to suppresss a bunch of rampaging superdruggies?
But he has a Union Elite ID, and the PPD's probably familiar with THEM by now.
"So, Superhuman abilities. Stuff like strength and speed, or something weird like breathing fire? By the name I'd guess the former."
- Mantigora (583) has posed:
Drugs were a bane in some form for every civilized society that Mantigora has come across. A quick fix; a way to deal with life giving you shit; a short-term relief that only lead to ruining your life even farther. Everyone from street thugs to high profile cartels and interplanetary mafias dealt in it if they could make money off the crackheads that couldn't life without their soul sapping addiction. And don't even get me started on the fragging space zombie race that only exists because some idiot doctor tried to make a drug form of immortality. An entire -race- ruined and quarintined because of drugs, and that still didn't stop it from spreading.
Needless to say, illegal drugs was a threat to social stability and life quality that not even a morally ambigious space empire like the Dominion tolerated.
This wasn't there, but that was one of the benefits of being a bounty hunter. You don't have to wait for trouble to cross your boarders, you can go to where trouble starts and kick in some crackheads at your own inclination.
Besides if what she's heard about what this drug can do, it won't be an easy problem to contend with, even with her own futuristic and alien abilities.
Though wisely Mantigora has avoided the lineup of authorities surrounding the location, lest said alien nature get her into trouble before she even gets to the trouble at hand. Instead the Draken slinks along one of the warehouse rooftops, keeping her above the notice of the police at ground level while her optical camoflauge cloaking keeps her out of sight in general.
- Maya has posed:
Maya has herd about this drug, while some were argumeable this thing was flat out a meance that warped the victems harder than most proganda about drugs depectived. She knew just how dangerous Superadyne. So here was the blue witch joining up with Shirou and she looked to the word mage for a moment beore hse flashes the cops her ID.
"I'm here to help where do you need us?"
- Demetrios Vasilikos (769) has posed:
The police peer at Shirou's I.D. They aren't ones to turn down help. Registration as a hero is generally preferred, but legislature has already been passed to allow 'freelance' heroes to assist in times of emergency without requiring registration, provided they do not violate any of the laws that any other person or hero is expected to follow. When the Blue Witch also joins them, one of the officers less reluctantly answers, "The ones who've been taking superadine longer get enhanced strength and endurance, and even self-healing powers. The ones at the very top, the Bosses, are even tougher. Some can turn themselves invulnerable to harm for awhile, and others can control the earth to make weapons, armor..."
Another officer answers the Blue Witch's question and says, "We mostly just need you to try to take down as many of those Trolls as you can, to break up their 'party'. If they overdose on superadine they become REAL trouble." More trouble than an invulnerable, super-strong, regenerating, monster!? Possibly with EARTH POWERS!?
As if to emphasize that, a Lieutenant who is visible glowing with green energy tears up a chunk of the parking lot and throws the concrete boulder at a building nearby where Mantigora is! The boulder smashes into the roof and tears through it. It didn't seem to be aimed AT the bounty hunter, and there are no follow-up attacks, so she may not have been noticed. Just a random crazy attack. Combining bestial fury with super powers is not a healthy combination for anyone.
"Oh, shoot! It's starting!" one of the cops says as a Trollkin Bruiser goes running into a nearby building. At least they have the decency to take turns and do this one at a time.
- Mantigora (583) has posed:
A random attack is still an attack. Thankfully by the time the hunk of concrete slams through the warehouse Mantigora has already slide down the side of the roof and into the gap between to of the buildings to avoid it. When there's no other attacks aimed specifically where she is or was it's pretty clear it was coincidental.
Not to mention a pretty good example of what they're up against.
Slinking up to the corner of the building Mantigora remains with her back flat to the wall and watchs the first Bruiser goes running into a building, the scouter-like nano-scanner flickering over her right eye as her tactical hardware goes to work. Super-strength, likely some amount of enhanced stamina combined with the fact that being doped up on that sort of power is probably going to null a lot of sensation of pain in general... However they are still predominately human at this stage, meaning joints, vital organs and assorted other means are still viable, crippling methods. Especially if they are drugged past feeling pain.
We can add destruction of property and reckless endangerment to the rapsheet as well, not that Mantigora is caring much for particular charges beyond the drug-addled craze.
As another Bruiser makes a run towards a building Mantigora steps out into the open even as she throws a small device just past the blitzed gangbanger. It its the pavement and anchors itself, then fires an energy tethering beam at the Bruiser's legs. The tether locks itself at a certain length, so if the snare is successful the thug's own momentum will throw him off his feet and facefirst into the pavement when his legs can't go any farther.
And then Mantigora mock casually leans against the side of the warehouse she had come from aside of, tail flicking to the side of her. "Come now, beating up defenseless buildings? I would be saying that is pathetic... but you're already bunch of dopeheaded outcasts, hard to get more pathetic than that."
- Emiya Shirou (560) has posed:
"Man, guess it was silly to ask." Shirou ends up rubbing his forehead after digesting the explanation, gaze swiveling around to see the chaos begin. "One drug does all that? No wonder they're called the Trolls. It's just like the western monster..." Yeah, he's Japanese at a glance, no doubt of that.
Except the red hair, but oh well, not every Japan in the Multiverse is 99% black haired now, are they?
"And if they keep this up they'll wreck everything!"
Having no further questions, he ducks into a low dash, murmuring, "Trace on!"
As usual, his destination is melee combat. Kanshou and Bakuya emerge from a swirl of emerald prana and are brought to bear in a hurry.
So he DOES have weapons! The boy grinds to a halt in the parking lot and brandishes a weapon at one of the ones who hasn't YET started charging.
"Oi! What do you guys think you're doing?!" Sharp and accusing, his rough words ring out briefly and pierce the ruckus.
- Maya has posed:
Maya says the informtion about the Trolls. Some are oewrse than the others she gets the idea.
"So basically bust up ther party, destroy what of the drug we can find and otherwise make sure their lives are misrable today got it."
She looks to Shirou and then smirks a little bit as she also looks over to Mantrigora b eore she steps up. She's looking like a lost cosplayer or an superhero. It's hard to tell here but maya speaks up.
"I suggest you break upthis action and head home otherwise it's the best thing for you honestly."
- Demetrios Vasilikos (769) has posed:
Mantigora's snare trap is super-effective! The Troll bashes his face into the ground when he trips and falls. Well, that was simple! The Bruiser looks up with a bruised face, spots Mantigora after frowning around in confusion for a bit, and then growls rather uncreatively, "Trolls smash!" Then he starts trying to get up and free himself from the tether. He is glowing from the superadine, but he isn't quite in possession of the strength that the Lieutenants and Bosses have.
Shirou steps forth and challenges the Trolls, causing several, including one jumping up and down on top a car roof, to turn to face him. When the Blue Witch also steps forth and tells them to get lost, the one on the roof pounds his chest with his fists and lets out a bestial roar before whipping out a submachine gun and starting to shoot at the heroes! One of the other Trollkin nearby yells out, "Heroes no stop Troll party!" and charges forward, seeking melee battle as eagerly as Shirou is.
Though all of these guys are glowing, they seem to be the less-altered Trolls. Enhanced strength and stamina, a green-tinge to their skin skin, but not quite the level the officer described. There's a boombox that has been set to maximum volume in the parking lot somewhere. It has been blasting some kind of techno music for awhile now. A glowing Boss-level Troll, a Caliban, comes charging towards Mantigora, and accidentally knocks the stereo off its perch on some cinder blocks. It doesn't break, but the station changes, picking up a multiversal frequency... And a song that won't exist in this world for at least another seven years.

At about the same time the harsh tones and percussions start reverberating through the entire neighborhood, the door to the warehouse bursts open. The Trollkin Bruiser who went inside was like 5 feet and 8 inches tall at most. The thing glowing behemoth that emerges is closer to seven or eight feet tall. His shirt has been torn, exposing bulging arms. His chest is so broad it looks like a barrel. His head is bald, his hair having fallen out from the overdose, and pronounced horns now grow from his skull. Torn pants and shoes fit to burst cover the rest of him. He pulses with shining energy and power. Every step he takes sends a rumble through the ground.
The Supa Troll looks around, lets out a deep, rumbling growl from a sharp-toothed mouth, and goes stomping off across the parking lot, looking for something to destroy and people to hurt.
- Emiya Shirou (560) has posed:
Whoah. WHOAH. Shirou blinks just once and... and ROLLS. Right under all of the gunfire. Only a few slam into his side, inflicting flesh wounds for the most part. Up he stands at the end of the roll, but this just brings the second up to his face. "Too fa--" CLAAAAAAAAAANG!!
It's all he can do to guard himself from the incoming punch with both his crossed swords. Kanshou and Bakuya absorb the impact like champs, but the force does knock him stumbling backwards. yelling awkwardly, he tumbles backwards...
But Shirou slams a hand to the ground mid-fall and springs backwards to land on his feet. then he HURLS the swords at his melee assailant, quickly produces another, and adopts a guard post. "We'll see about that."
- Mantigora (583) has posed:
"And people call my Standard broken," Mantigora snorts as the Trolls barely manage an intelligable call to battle, pushing off the wall and bracing herself in a ready stance. One of the more glowy Trolls rushes towards her, which is just fine. Typically the most effective way to break up a riot is take out the ones that would be 'in charge' and break the underlings' will to fight. Granted, these guys are also stoned out of their skulls, so who knows if its that effective. Still not inclined to particularly care.
The Caliban tops off the charge by throwing the momentum into a heavy punch, which Mantigora catchs in one hand. Though notibly he still hits with enough force to push her arm backwards and make the Draken scrape the pavement with her toeclaws to keep her footing.
But as her tail lashes to keep her balance her own nanotech augmentations quickly amplify their output to adjust to the force experienced and moments later Mantigora pushes her attacker's arm back, talons digging into his fist to keep him from pulling it away from her grip. Until she's leaning right up in his face, smiling with a mouth full of wickedly sharp teeth to go with the demonic horns.
"I should spill your guts all over the pavement... But that would be letting you off easy for the level of depravity you have soiled self to. Instead, I do your species favor..."
Mantigora steps past and violently jerks the Troll's arm with her, intending to twist it to the point of near breaking before throwing him to the ground.
Followed by slamming down one of her armored boots in what will be a crushing 'crotch shot' if he doesn't manage to move.
"And remove you from gene pool instead."
That might be difficult to recover from even with a healing factor.
- Maya has posed:
Maya gets only anger from the Trolls at all it seems that's fine she's going to make some pretty darn big noise now. She looks at them for half asecon as they sem to have well she's got an opening to start gathering her power for something. If these trolls want to play she? Maya can play. Wait is that one as big as an underlost? Okay this was getting nuts. She hears the bellowing.
She plant her feet she does not run, why? Because she's going to not hold back and bust out the summoning blue fire leeches into the card she's holding and a moment later a ghostly locking knight appears. Maya becomes a bit harder to see for the moment aqs siad knight brings down his blade unleahsing a shockwave of kentici fo4rce which could knock people about like bowling pins oddly? Maya's allies would not be effective by the shockwave.
- Demetrios Vasilikos (769) has posed:
Shirou's blades slash the Trollkin, hurling him back and into the car his submachine gun buddy is standing on. He hits his head and goes down. The other Trollkin around him, including those wielding shotguns and more firearms, start to either charge or start shooting at Maya and Shirou as well, but then a shockwave is released from Maya's spell that hurls them all away and scatters them across the parking lots. There's at least eight or nine other groups of that size, along with individuals standing apart from the others. This is going to take awhile if they don't start bringing out the big guns and area attacks! Shirou has exploding sword arrows, right? Or maybe he can just slash lots of bad guys at once with those thrown swords!
Maya seems to have plenty of AoE. Mantigora might have some too! Speaking of whom, while she twists and stomps the powered up Caliban, it seems he decides to return the favor. Despite the injuries he has suffered, he raises one leg in his position and brings his foot down HARD on the ground, causing a violent tremor that actually makes the pavement ripple outwards and shatter, possibly hurling his attacker off of him and into the air!
He doesn't seem inclined to converse at this point. The injuries he has suffered from the bounty hunter would have taken down most street thugs with the sheer PAIN involved. In this case, it seems to have just made the Caliban angrier. "RAAAAAAAHHH! YOU NO DO THAT!"
Another Trollkin charges for the warehouse and in through the door. Crap!
The Supa Troll charges the cops, who retreat while shooting at the glowing monster. The super-charged Troll just stops, slams one of his hands through the roof of one of the cop cars being used as a barricade, and his other fist through another, and then raises both hands... Now encased in vehicular gauntlets. He starts swinging these around, adding even more destructive ability to his already-phenomenal super strength blows! Civilians are running and screaming as they try to get away! And those hand guns seem to be woefully ineffective!
On the one hand, defeating the Trolls BEFORE they transform will cut down on the number of Supa Trolls to deal with. On the OTHER hand, while the small-fry are being dealt with, Supa Trolls will be running rampant across Skyway City, wrecking absolutely everything! Which is more pressing?
For Mantigora, at least, the pressing matter is the Boss who is attacking her, but once he's dealt with, a similar choice will have to be made.
At least they don't have to worry about the bad guys getting away after being taken out. When they wake up, they'll be in jail, judging by the fact they're fading out of existence via the teleport network after being defeated.
- Emiya Shirou (560) has posed:
Seeing trouble in the form of WAY too many guns, Shirou does the smart thing - thanks to Sir Bedivere's relentless tactical training. he retreats. Or, rather, he hops back to Maya's side. There's no joy on his face, he's not enjoying this one bit like some heroes might, even for the sake of the challenge. His expression is simply determined, a mask of grueling and even painful exertion. But his timing is excellent. power sizzles along his arm, visible as a circuit patern... and flowing outwards!
"RHO... AIAS!"
The exploding prana blossoms into a pink, filmy construction... a circular shield that further unfolds, sprouting four 'petal'-like extensions. Then, this shield repeats itself, sprouting smaller 'copies' of itself as extra layers. All in all there are four petals and thus, four layers to the shield. And it's HUGE, huge enough to give him and Maya all the cover they could need.
"Roast 'em, the faster they're down the less damage there'll be!"
Of course, what more does a mage need than cover from enemy attacks?
It's excellent cover too. The bullets and shells slam into the shield, and only after the first fifteen seconds of bombardment or so does the first layer crack and shatter...
Though, when that happens, Shirou still flinches slightly. he's not showing it much, but just maintaining this is a strain!
On the 'good' side, being behind cover gives him a chance to survey the battlefield, just in time to see Mantigora's BRUTAL assault.
Somewhere in his gut, the boy's wincing in sympathy. "That's a bit excessive..."
- Mantigora (583) has posed:
Although she expected it to a degree Mantigora still raises a barbed brow when the Caliban gets up despite the battering he took. "Tch. Head harder than Granok's I see." For point of reference here, Granok are a race of living stone people.
Out of the corner of her eye she notices gangers already defeated being teleported away. Well that's quick and convenient. Always nice to not have to worry about detaining captured quarr--eep!
The ground stomp catchs her off-guard while she was noting that, the shockwave alone throughing the Draken upward and backwards with the power behind it. She hits the ground in an awkward tumble and taking her share of a bruising besides the initial boom for the trouble, before finally managing to kick off the ground and flip onto her feet.
Mostly for effect to not show how much of a rough landing it was Mantigora stands up, dusts off a shoulder, and straightens out her longcoat to make it appear like she was only mildly ruffled by it.
Followed by the metallic sound (I can't use the first sound effect that always comes to mind because it's too famous even though Stalkers TOTALLY do that pose) of her arm blades extend fully, followed by charging towards the Troll Boss.
Save at the last minute she jumps and instead of lashing with her blades at him, she lands on his shoulders in a manner that will hopefully send him crashing forward as she kicks off of him to launch herself towards the SUPA TROLL attacking the woefully outmatched cops. Maybe even stagger him into the world of hurt about to come from the actual heroes on the scene.
Mantigora may be a aggressive predatory bitch but at least it's not psychotic pointless violence like these thugs are trying to enact. A hunter only kills with purpose; a Draken hunter only goes for the prey worthy of their strength and challenge, not the weak and outmatched.
The armblades start to glow as Mantigora aims to land on the Supa Troll's hulking backside, and stab the nano-laced weapons into his upper shoulders. Considering this guy is hopped up on drugs, adrenaline and freaky shit the attack in itself might not do too much damage. But that's not the point of it.
The point of it is the strike is actually using her blades to inject him with a nano-viral agent known 'Phlebotomize' amongst Stalker ranks. It violently attacks the victim's blood, crippling it's ability to carry the energy needed to heal, fight, and in this case hopefuly interfer with some of that super-drug flooding the Supa Troll's bloodstream as well.
- Maya has posed:
Maya is certainly getting the idea, she needs to use aoe attcks to keep these trolls under control. So that's what she's going to dfo well until the gunfire sarts and that changes things a bit at leas until Shirou goes and be the Knight he really is. She's going keep her focus with Shirou's help and she knows she's going to need some more firepower so she's going to leash a bigger spell. She's not got off unahrmed she's bleeding from a graze hit or two, but she was lucky for now and has protection. She starts gathering more and more magical power as she's going to let lose a doozy soon.
"Shirou I just need a bit more time!"
- Maya has posed:
Maya's charging her spell as much as she's able to do so. Once she has enough core energy gathered? She casts the spell the cards hover above her head and there seems to strong wind flying about her as she does this. Maya becomes almost translucent and a massive portal forms. Deities or ohter beings of magic might take notice something akin to them is poking an aspect of their power into primal earth.
Marduk or an aspect of him steps out of the portal a massive humanoid man clad in hevy dark blue plate armour and whielding a pait of massive bastard swords covered in runes. He looks to the Trolls and scowls at the lot of them before he drives the blades into the ground and causing an massive shockwave of holy energy before he'll turn and depatr through the portal.
- Demetrios Vasilikos (769) has posed:
Shirou's shield manages to keep Maya safe long enough to blast more Trolls with a super holy shockwave summon! They get tossed into the air, and come back down hard! Mantigora's toxins are effective on her target. Though the Supa Troll keeps swinging his car gauntlets around and trying to punch her for awhile after being slashed and poisoned, eventually he succumbs to the poison's effects, and is able to be taken down.
The good guys/anti-heroic good guys have managed to defeat enough of the Trolls that they realize the party is over and scatter in every direction! Some will get caught, some won't. But the experimental security drones use their teleportation beams to take out at least a few, and the immediate threat of rampaging Supa Trolls is dealt with.
Dun DUN dun dun DUNNN... DUN!
MISSION COMPLETE!
- Mantigora (583) has posed:
When the prey is too big and tough to just take out in a straight fight, the hunter has to wear the quarry down first. Which is exactly what Mantigora does. That and between the nano-toxin and her the Supa Troll has something more important to worry about than thrashing cops, until he finally collapses from the effects.
Once he's down she pulls her blades free and shakes them off a bit before retracting them. Probably getting a few odd looks from the cops considering her own appearances now that they've gotten a clear look at her not being tossed around on a Troll's back like some deranged mutant rodeo.
To which she just smiles back at them in return. In a little less creepier manner than she did to the Troll Boss earlier. "I may be inhuman," she remarks to what is probably some of their thoughts, "but I am not a MONSTER."
To which after she turns and walks off.
