Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Phase Rock has been under the control of the Confederacy and walking around is borders are several Confederate defense units. Along with them is several strange black airships made of metal and have glowing lines of blue. They hover in the air with no thrusts or propulsion of any kind that be seen.

Below them on the ground with the Confederate forces are walking machines that stand around ten feet tall. With drill like arms and heavily armored bodies. Up on the shoulders are some type of platform and a gear can be seen rotating around in the back as they move. These machines are known as Magitek Vanguards, drones from the Garlean Empire and most likely part of the XIV Legion's unit.

Thankfully, Gaius Van Baelsar is no where to be seen nor is his massive airship. For the Union if they can break past the aerial and ground defense. They may be able to claim this area away from the Confederates.

Nagato has posed:
     Atago, the second in command to Nagato's personal fleet, is in sortie out towards the target zone... Phase Rock. The giant magical crystal that seems it would be the perfect thing to acquire for the Union for how much they have helped the Fleet Daughters with supplies. The blue clad heavy cruiser is decked out in her 20cm guns, stopping a good ways way from the shore of the island. "Mmm.. interesting units, no ships. Nagato will be pleased for this, now... to have Shimakaze and Amatasukaze come back me up when I retreat..."

As Atago starts to approach the aerial units are the first to take notice. "We have a Union inbound by IFF." With that sent several defense batteries raise up on the guard wall and swivel around to take aim, the fighter airships that have been patrolling around, and spin themselves in the air on the dime. Their own weapons coming online.

Soon Atago would get a transmission sent to her directly, "Member of the Union. This area is under Confederate control. Turn back at once or we will open fire."

Nagato has posed:
    Atago is smiling as she is noticed by the enemy forces, a light wave coming from the almost eternally happy heavy cruiser. "Transmission recieved, however I am afraid my Admiral has set me out on sortie. I cannot retreat because you asked so kindly." Atago's twin gun mounts slowly swivel around and above... and off radio "Firing soultion verified, angle of thirty degrees, non moving target, wind at five knots south west."

    "Pan paka paaan!" comes that spirited voice as guns go blazing: legft gun, right gun then both at the same time, aiming at one of the Vanguards, the standard high explosive shells, four in total come arcing in for a hit.

The guns open fire from Atago as it scatters across the ocean to the land. The Vanguards go on the move, but one of them gets caught directly. The bullets rattle it and it falls backwards exploding in blue flames. Men hit the deck as the exchange is now going to commence.

As Atagao moves in closer, several on the Vanguard at the edge, plant their feet down and several silos on their shoulders open up, before with a blast of blue flash come out several missiles. Those missiles sail through the air, moving, rotating, before they arch in attempt to capture the ship woman in the explosion as the Ceruleum within detonates in a brilliant blue explosive burst.

Nagato has posed:
    The explosion of shells and an explosion of the mechanized infantry bring a brighter smile to the Heavy Crusier's face, skating inwards more to get better firing positions on those troops. One versus many was not Atago's way but she was going to make due. As the counter fire comes streaking in, that beautiful blue that almost matches her outfit, crashes all around the Second. When the flames dissipate from the water, some of her coat is seared.

Nagato has posed:
     Atago's not too happy with the seared edges and blackened parts of her wardrobe. That smile all but gone from her face. "Oh, so we are trying to be serious now? I can do that too." her tone is a bit less playful than normal as she starts skating once more to keep her speed up from the next incoming barrage. A quick turn, she snap fires her turrets once more, and from behind a seaplane takes to the air to give scouting coverage and vision around the area.

The Vanguards scatter once more, as the rain of terror comes from the Ship Maiden. Yet not all are spared from her demonstration of power as one of the other Vanguard's arms are blown off and Ceruluem starts to pump out. When that blue fuel gets impacted it also ignites it brilliant blue fire, trailing right back up and causing the Vanguard to explode.

Parts from the drone sail across the sky, impacting another Vanguard and clattering across the air support, which then start to move in. They start to open fire with their own machine guns, as the turrets back near the wall rotate, before opening fire at the sky attempting to see about cutting off some of the higher up vision.

Meanwhile the Vanguards are breaking up and while a few get a orange flicker in their visor slits. Its hard to tell what those mechanical drones are actually up too.

Nagato has posed:
    Atago's also not known for the queen of collateral damage, however it seems she may be rapidly gaining this title as the fight continues from its infancy. She continues her rapid skating, watching the explosive blue liquid inviting and sending more of that things parts everywhere. "Fragile things..." she shakes her head some, that playful smile coming across her face one more.

    As the counter fire erupts, she trails the bullets heading her way only for the fire to stop and take aim to her seaplane. A lucky hit from one of the machine-guns hit the fairy-laden plane, causing it to tailspin out of control... and smash right into the back of Atago. A wince coming from the blue clad ship woman and with a quick turn around, she initiates another snap fire while keeping moving, "I'll rescue you later!"

As Atago returns fire, one of the ships in the air quickly turn about. The impacts clip across its armor and break off some of the material, but the airships seem to be far better built then those drones on the ground.

As for the Vanguards they are moving themselves into position for something, even as some bullets rattle their armor, they do not stand back or seem to be to bothered by their own getting destroyed. There visors though all flickered in Unison as the back of their heels sunk into the ground.

There was a flicker of blue flames that huffed out from the vents, before the drills spun up. Shortly after the drill's 'caps' fire off as the Cermet drill's outer layer blasted off like a missile itself. Spinning right for Atago.

Nagato has posed:
    Direct hit to something she isnt good at hitting. Today has to be Atago's lucky day. "Perhaps I should try the faire games in Japan..." she comments, that bright smile just making her day. Boy does she have a story to tell the Admiral. Now, only if she can win this for her.

    A study of the Vanguards and their drills, watching their movement as she skids to a stop, preparing a new firing solution. "Wind picking up at seven knots. Angle of twenty four degrees. Aiming slightly east." then the cerment drills are fired, aiming right for the maiden. She gets ready to move , kicking off the water to get herself going, but the cerment drills crash right into her superstructure and armored coat, digging in and causing quite a bit of damage, a black lace undershirt showing and cracks all along the guns structures...

    Battered around, Atago drops slightly into the water, puttering forth as she readjusts her aim. "I will be taking this for Admiral." she claims, letting loose one more barrage at the shore units.

The shots come and the Vanguards actually /move/ this time. One of them does get clipped but they don't seem to be standing around now. Perhaps they have obtained enough data to become dangerous now. As they move, they are nothing but a simple momentary distraction.

The real actually is back behind the wall as several Garleans line up their own equipment, making a few adjustments on their screens. That is when she may notice behind the wall several rockets blast up into the air. As those go up, a few of the Vanguards come to a stop and open with those Ceruleum missiles.

If the Ship Maiden doesn't act fast, she will find herself not only coming under attack by the missiles she has already met, but also some even higher powered rockets that are now dropping down for her!

Looks like the Garleans have no plans to leave this area easily.

Nagato has posed:
    They're getting better with aim, she better finish this quick as one misstep may see Atago sinking. She calculates a few things in her head as she continues her skating around. The missiles crash right in front of her, spreading their blue flame payload all over the Heavy Cruiser while the speed of her skating barely avoids the rockets that come crashing in, the water splashing over her to douse some of the flames, with black scorch marks over all her equipment and her extremites.

    Time for Atago to get serious, another plane launches and she charges forth, leveling her guns at the rocketeers, even if they're behind those vanguards! Both of her guns seem to glow a bit from the tip and with a resounding 'BANG', four higher powered shells are shot forth, armor pericing and explosive combined into one shell. "I'm not leaving without this place.." or until Shimakaze and Amatsukaze come dragging her off...

The armor piercing around slams into one of the Vanguards and once it sinks in, it explodes. There is a kachunk from a few of them as they set up the next load of missiles on the rack. They start to move around once again, in order to find a proper position on the battlefield.

Looking for her weakness, but with the distance between them and her, it makes it difficult. After all, the Vanguards can't fly and they can not at all swim. So the distance has been Atago's saving grace. No matter how many times they want to line up, they can't go in for melee.

Yet several of the airship fighters move from their hovering position. They swing wide past her, then circle back around. They move in and start to open fire with their own piercing rounds at high velocity. Its almost as if they are trying to push her to the 'beach'.

Nagato has posed:
    More explosions, another mark on the belt. And Atago's still cheerful despite being pelted with everything and the sea water. She spins around and starts skaing backwards as she pulls her coat up against her to protect herself from the peircing rounds, the rounds ripping right through the coat and making a few holes in the ship girl's sides. She knows what she needs to get down next, but anti air has not been her strong point.

    Atago readies her ammo once more and points the guns directly up before making a skidding motion to stop and dash forward, firing up once she gets under that armored flying thing! "Air support is not fun!"

    Atago's got to think quick, Shimakaze and Amatsukaze aren't here yet so she can't get the anti air support she needs...

The Ship Maiden's shots clang and clunk across the armor as she zips around their underside, but these things can skim around on the air effortlessly and spin around 180 without to much hitch, making sure none of her bullets stick in one area.

Though one of them has to pull out as they were starting to take to much damage from the return fire and high tails it back to the main land. Yet during all this, the Vanguards were not standing by idle....

They were prepping another launch of their Cermet drills, as they spun and fires as Atago had their back turned toward them. It looks like the Garleans are now playing rather dirty in trying to hold down Phase Rock!

Nagato has posed:
    The return fire and the drills fortunately graze the Ship Maiden's back and sides as she turns around in the nick of time, ripping through her armored coat. "I'll bill you for the coat..." she frowns, letting a barrage of shells come forth from her guns, the Ship Maiden's face is turned towards a scowl. "I'm not happy anymore."

    She turns fully around, aiming at the jet that started firing at her, if she can get rid of one of them, maybe it'll turn the tide of battle in her favor. "Moving target... aim ... wind speed..." she nods and lets out another barrage of shells, the Ship Maiden is trying her best to be anti air with her guns... She soon turns her attention to the main land and lets out one last barrage of shells towards it, skating more and more to try and avoid any return fire.

The beach defense was getting pounded and the Garleans were not sure how much longer they could hold this position. The other fight had to pull out when her bullets sprayed the sky, another Vanguard raised up its drills and got knocked back a few feet from the barrage of bullets from the Ship Maiden.

It looked like she had this in the bag.

Yet they would not leave and those one the ground yelled out together, "For the Empire!" As there last battle cry to keep their spirits high. That is when everyone pours out once more. More rockets, more heavy powered machine guns from the defense towers.

Missiles from the Vanguards poured out. They were throwing everything that had at her. Even with the smock that was starting to blow in on the battlefield from downed Vanguards and sand that was covered with bullets.

Nagato has posed:
    The barrage continues, shell after shell is loaded and fired, three seconds between charges. "Admiral Nagato will have this island! The Union will be repaid!" the muffled shout of 'empire' causes the woman to brace herself for the incoming barrage while a pair of destroyers are skating in to find the sky-covering barrage of missiles, rockets, bullets and evertyhing they could throw at Atago."

    The two destroyers shout out in shock as the flames engulf where Atago is 'standing'. "ATAGO!" and quickly move to flank their ally.

    The flames slowly die down, Atago's eyes are closed, her armored coat covering her somewhat... "I"m done... Shimakaze, Amatsukaze. Combined fire."

    The two destroyers give a light nod and aim their anti air cannons towards the beach, both destroyers turned to the side with their torpedo tubes aimed... "PAN PAKA PAAA~N!" and every bit of shell, torpedo and bullet are let loose in a combined fire exerciese against the enemy, torpedos skimming the water to hopefully hop out and blow up.

The beach is covered with explosions and many of the Confederate forces being shoved back by the barrage of attacks. Even some claimed in the fire and explosions. A few Garleans get injured during the assault, but with a Centurions yell to "HOLD THE LINE!" The Garleans do just this.

The Vanguards scatter, the drones moving between the blasts, there isn't many left standing, but when the smoke clears and the beach can be at least seen, fiery red glow comes from the visor slits in the Vanguard's helms as they stand tall.

There armor though was smoked, a few had armor plates ripped off. Yet they stand firm, even as some confederate non-elites can be seen leaving in the background.

The Vanguards brace themselves as a blue electrical current flows around them. They start to supercharge their cermet drills as they start to speed up. The energy crackles around the drills and then with a loud explosion that shakes the beach and kicks up the sand. The Cermet drills fire in full, fully charged, and heading right for their attended target.

Nagato has posed:
     Somehow... somehow after that combined fire, they are still up and with those Vanguards.... Atago looks on in disgust, "Mmm... Shimakaze, Amatsukaze, stay behind me..." with the order from the higher up, they quickly come behind her, waiting... t hen the explosion of the drill smashing right into Atago... slumping over and falling into the water. Shimakaze and Amatsukaze look on in shock as they quickly start bringing chains out to heft the Heavy Cruiser out and starts to sail off... "HOw to explain this to Admiral?" "Atago will just fine... just... lets get her out. She can't take anymore..."
