Profile
A cyborg designed to wander the remains of a ruined world and bring civilisation. Created using technology from The Before Times and backed by the ReGenesis Corporation, he is designed to easily integrate into the scattered settlements he finds, teach the inhabitants how to fend for themselves, teleport in supplies from his sponsors and fend off any major threats they face before continuing on. Fixated on the world that was, he dresses himself in scavenged finery from those times and absorbs any knowledge about it he can, regardless of utility. Eryl is a kind, understanding man with a drive to help others that could be called self-destructive. He has become something of a legend in his world, with some of the settlements he has passed through elevating him to mythical proportions.
Advantages
Powers
CYBORG BODY: Eryl’s body has been heavily augmented with multiple implants in his brain, a modified digestive system and entirely mechanical limbs. As a result of these upgrades, he no longer ages and remains in his physical prime. He is immune to most conventional diseases and his powerful digestive system renders him immune to food poisoning and ingested poisons. Implants in his brain keep his emotions in check, allowing him to remain focussed in most any situation. By selectively blocking signals from his sensory organs, he can ignore pain. In addition, his limbs (and the weapon systems they contain) are made from titanite forged in Priscilla’s Dark Ember. This has enchanted them with Occult power. Such power is anathema to divine energies (Aura Flare: 33->34 when fighting divine beings, or those empowered by such beings).
KOAN CORE: The object that powers all of Eryl’s implants and systems, the KOAN Core is a miracle of engineering, a source of power that, with the right setup, can convert nearly anything into usable power, even post-entropic energy like heat. This core is connected to collectors in Eryl’s skin that gather energy for the KOAN Core to convert. However, they are not efficient enough for him to be able to absorb all energy that strikes him. If anything can exert any kind of energy on Eryl, his collectors can absorb it. For example, sunbathing (light and heat) or even being shook about (kinetic energy) for a long period could allow him to recharge, but being struck by lightning or an energy attack would not, unless it was particularly prolonged. In addition, his digestive system has been heavily modified, his saliva and gastric juices able to alter their composition and pH levels to break down most anything he could eat and convert it into fuel for the core. He also has a socket at the small of his back to recharge from external power sources.
ENVIRONMENT SCANNER: This system is central to one of the key parts of Eryl’s mission: assimilating into settlements. Dubbed “Original Face,” it consists of the multiple implants within Eryl’s brain, eyes and ears. They scan his external environment, allowing him to build biographies of people, analyzing their personality from bodily expression and words. This helps him understand them better, but also allows him to calculate how they may fight. Advanced heuristics also allow him to make estimates of cultural gestures so that he knows what to do and what not to do in a new setting to avoid insulting his hosts. They also would have helped him in learning new languages, but this is no longer needed post-Unification. They also work in conjunction with his weapon systems, estimating distances for his firearms and how much force he can put behind a blow to make it damaging, but not lethal. It can also connect to external forms of digital storage, both wirelessly and via cable through a socket behind Eryl’s left ear and download their contents. [OOC: Elites skilled at deception would be able to fool this system]
SUPPLY TELEPORTER: A teleportation receiver installed into Eryl’s body (called “Three Pounds of Flax”); this system allows him to beam in supplies from the ReGenesis Corporation. This includes both ammunition for his weapon systems as well as supplies for settlements he finds so that they can improve their way of life. However, this teleporter is unable to teleport complex materials. As such, it cannot teleport people, nor complex machinery. It also requires Eryl to remain totally still for the time it takes for the teleported goods to arrive and materialize.
Skills
COMBAT TRAINING: Eryl has been trained to fight, both with and without his combat systems. He relies mainly on techniques that allow him to use his mechanically augmented strength, such as strikes and grabs. But, he also has basic proficiency in multiple different weapons, as well as an understanding on how to maintain them. This knowledge is more so that he can instruct others in his world on how to fight.
SURVIVAL TRAINING: Eryl has been trained to live off very scarce land. This training has two purposes. The first is, naturally, so that Eryl can survive in the wastelands that stretch between settlements. The second is that so he can pass this knowledge along to those settlements, helping the residents find a better quality of life. This includes agriculture and construction.
DIPLOMACY: Eryl is a diplomat first and foremost, trained to integrate into whatever culture he finds out in the wastes. Even without his “Original Face” system, he is able to convince most anyone that he means no harm and only wishes to help.
Assets
COILGUNS: Eryl has coilguns built into his body. These weapons fire metallic projectiles via magnetic fields. He has one in each hand (each called “One Hand Clapping”) that fires from the index finger and is loaded with 8-round clips that load into the blade of his hand next to his wrist. He also has one in each upper arm (each called “Flowering Hedge”) that fires slugs from his elbows that can break apart into buckshot while in flight and are loaded with 4-round rotating clips into his superior lateral arm. Lastly, he has one in each of his lower legs (each called “Golden Wind”) that fire grenades from his heels and are loaded with individual grenades through his kneecaps.
ROCKET PODS: This system consists of small rocket pods (each called “Unmoving Tongue”) in Eryl’s anterior thighs. Each pod holds 12 small rockets in rows of 3. Each pod is initially launched via electromagnetic propulsion with rocket systems activating to alter course during flight. Each rocket can either attach to a target and deliver an incapacitating shock or explode.
ARM BLADES: This system consists of thin, rectangular blades (called “Ungraspables”) that emerge from his forearms above his hands. These blades vibrate at a high frequency, allowing for easy cutting.
REGENESIS CORPORATION: The Corporation that gave Eryl his mission also backs him in most any way they can. This usually involves sending him supplies via his “Three Pounds of Flax” system since his mission involves him being far from his base. However, their systems have yet to be designed to send things through Warp Gates, so they can only help him while he is on his home world. (For more information on ReGenesis, see +info ReGenesis.)
NPCs
Disadvantages
MESSIANIC COMPLEX: Eryl has been wandering the wastes for a long time. Everywhere he has gone, he has found people and problems he has been able to help with. All these encounters have given Eryl a messianic complex. He now believes that he can solve all problems he encounters. As such, he has come to regard others as those who need his aid. Since he is so much stronger than those he met for the longest time, he also believes he can resolve any problem without any loss of life. Also, he even sees those who wish him harm as someone who needs his help. Anyone who he doesn’t see as an enemy, he will try to talk to or defeat without lethal force. In addition, any time in which these beliefs are proven wrong, it causes him to suffer a slight mental breakdown and freeze up.
OBSESSED WITH THE OLD WORLD: Eryl’s time wandering ruins of the Before Times has instilled in him an obsession with what they had that his world did not. Not just things like stability, governments and laws, but also things like clothes worn for fashion and food that is good to eat. This can be disadvantageous in this new multiverse he finds himself in. Seeing similar wonders first hand with an appreciation gained from a world without, he is reluctant to do anything that might damage them even slightly
KOAN CORE: The source of all of Eryl’s power is also a great weakness. Though it can store a lot of power, his systems take a lot of it. Thus, Eryl cannot cope well with drawn-out fights. In addition, if this Core is damaged, that may spell doom for Eryl. KOAN Cores are rarely scavenged and ReGenesis engineers have been unable to reproduce them. Since Eryl’s whole life depends on this Core, if it ever stops working, he will start to die without it. Also, no one is sure what would happen if a KOAN Core is breached while active, but it would likely be fatal to him at the very least.
MAGIC BLIND: Eryl comes from a world of science, not magic. But, his “Original Face” system is able to notice even subtle changes in the environment caused by magic. But they would appear to him to be a thoroughly spontaneous event with no cause. As such, it would begin to devote more resources to finding a cause. So, even the most basic of magic can cause his systems to try and find a cause for them, taking resources from whatever else Eryl might be trying to do. However, he can learn to ignore this and command his implants to do the same, but every time he faces a new spell he has to do this over again.
DUAL NATURE: Eryl is both machine and man, with all the weaknesses of both. His limbs are wholly robotic, which means an EMP will render him helpless, his limbs and implants having to reboot themselves after exposure to one. However, his torso and head are mostly flesh and blood, meaning he can bleed out from a cut and even be poisoned.
OWNED BY REGENESIS: While ReGenesis requires that he kept on a long leash to complete his mission, he is still on a leash. ReGenesis can control his implants remotely, causing him to lock up or even influence his brain and thus, his actions. So far, they have not had cause to do such a thing, but if he ever displeased them, they would not hesitate. Alternatively, if anyone ever acquired the system that controlled his implants, they would have near-total control over him.
LITTLE SENSE OF SELF: Eryl has been trained to assimilate into settlements while remaining a messenger from the ReGenesis Corperation. Most of his life has been about either training to do that or doing that. As such, he has had little opportunity to develop much of a sense of self. He defines himself thoroughly around his mission and if ever questioned about himself without those, he will have nothing to say. While he has the mission, this is not a big deal to him, but it will soon be over, and he will have nothing left.
